Question: I'm not being allowed to create new folders in Miui, anyone might know why? Or is anyone have the same issue? I'm able to create an initial folder and I have placed several apps in there. But when I go to create a new folder, it creates (essentially) a duplicate folder which then I cannot delete as it has the same apps that was included in the previous folder.
Do I just have to create several empty folders right off the bat? Doesn't seem like this should be necessary.
Edit: Ok, cannot create multiple different (content-wise) whatsoever. Using 1.7.15, btw.
I was having the same problem on my Nexus S. So I tried the same thing you did: I setup 4 different folders and copied an app to the first, another to the second, etc. All the apps showed in each folder... I then moved them back out, re-added separate apps in each folder and it seemed to work at that point. I closed and opened the folders a few times and even added a new folder, put in another separate app in that folder and so far, no duplication. Trying to organize now and hopefully it doesn't screw everything up when I'm all done. Seems like it's just a glitch.
UPDATE: about 5 folders in, it started happening again, so I moved the apps out and restarted and then moved them back in and no duplication. This is driving me nuts, if I weren't an OCD case.
Glad I'm not the only one suffering from this. Very weird glitch, though. Went back to CM7 already as it's a major dealbreaker for me.
this Is a new problem because it worked in the previous build.
Known Problem
I was reading up on this on the MIUI forums yesterday. It is a known issue that did indeed crop up on the 7.15 build (My birthday killed it!).
Workaround: Create a folder, reboot. The folder will be empty. Yes, I know this is annoying. Sorry. That's what's available. Thankfully I only need about 4 folders, so I only did 4 reboots. lol.
Anyways, they are working on it. That's the happy answer. Somebody linked to a site with crazy text where they are talking about the glitch, but I think it was in Chinese, and I didn't feel like going through a Google Translate.

I have a small bug but very annoying to me. I have a few games installed. and I just want to create a bunch of shortcuts to them stored inside a folder called 'Games' on the home screen. The first day i create the folder, it will work fine and open the folder. but then usually the 2nd or 3rd day it will not open the folder.
i have other folders for the same purpose created from that 1st day and they still work by the 2nd or 3rd day, but they are named differently for different apps.
I'm thinking the 'Games' name is interfering with some android processes or something.
Dont know if this happened to anyone else? my searches came up empty.
if someone could try it then post the results from the 2nd or 3rd day, i would be able to troubleshoot it further.
LauncherPro home screen (not Plus)
Stock Vibrant Rom with JI5
I've had that happen before where if you have a taskiller, home replacement the folders sometimes won't open. I usually just force close the home replacement or reboot phone and it works again

HI
I have check the SDcard Root and I have a lot of DiskCacheIndexxxxx.tmp
Does anyone know what are this files?
Thanks
good question
Good question I have about 50 of them!
Most likely app-created index files to hold the location of cached contents. Did a quick google search and you can find other refs to these files, mainly in other android and even other xda threads (G1 for instance) where in one someone said he went ahead and deleted them with no ill effects. YMMV

I found that already and delete the files..
but it has start creating new ones..
Thank you
believe they are caused by Quandrent Advanced. I only get them when I have that app installed. I just delete it and use Quadrent Standard and the files go away
I had this exact problem. It was caused by installing 3d froyo gallery from the market. After removing this app, rebooting (and deleting all the files in the root), the problem was resolved. Not sure if this applies to you guys, but figured I'd chime in.
Also, they are not caused by quadrant advanced, i've been using that for quite some time, and it never dumped files to the root of the card.)
Sounds pornographic to me
Just kidding. Anyway yeah it's Quadrant.

Instead of using 3D gallery from market you can use standalone *.apk from Nexus it works without creating any temp files on sdcard root.

Un-installed the Facebook application earlier and reinstalled it on restart in order to remove my duplicated friends on Facebook.
Once I restarted, I noticed a blank quick-link on the home-screen. I then tried to replace this empty quick-link with a shortcut to an application, but to no avail. I have tried dragging other quick-links into this space, but that shortcut just disappears. I can place shortcuts into every other quick-link space except this one.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Any help would be much appreciated
you can clear it via the registry....
give me a few minutes to look up the values.....
okay, you need
HKLM - software - htc - home
sorta misread your post but this may still work....
there are loads of numbered entries, one of them is the link you want to clear, its probably still hanging onto some facebook related info, find it and delete the info relating to face book.
check its not set to read only.....
hope that helps.....
I have done exactly what you have said.
Gone into HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome
and all there is in the folder is another folder named SMSMMS, both of which are empty folders
Sorry dude, should have been
"hklm - software - HTC - manila - home"
My bad..... sorry

Bit of a "newbie" to this kind of registry thing as you amy have guessed.
You have any idea how I could find out which one corresponds to the boxes that are not working??
don't worry, i managed to fix it using a bit of guess work, mixed with logic.
i saw that folders 5 and 16 were missing, so i copied the data from another folder, and pasted it in, seems to have solved the problem.
thanks for your help.
couldn't have fixed it without you
ha ha
consider your "newbie" status lifted......
I would have never thought of that!
glad you got it sorted......

what folder did you copy? my number 6 & 9 are missing?
i didn't copy anyone in particular. just copied the contents of one, and pasted it into a new folder. i don't think it makes any difference which one it is though...
hope it helps.
Hi Guys
Had a SGS2 for a couple of weeks now and have been enjoying it.
However one major niggle.
I've setup four folders: Games, Productivity, Creativity and General. Into these four folders I have distrubuted my apps accordingly. Then these folders were placed on my home screen. The problem is that randomly the apps move out of these folders and scatter themselves back into various places, either on my apps menu or even stranger within another folder. The folders on the home screen are untouched as the shortcut isn't in live contact with original folder.
This is on original KDD stock rom, no root. Anybody else having the same problem?
i have the same problem with one particular app - he keeps escaping from the folder that i put him in. he's a very naughty boy !
no idea why though. i think it might be to do with installing new apps.
do you use the touchwiz a-z sorter app at all ?
No. Not used any sorter or changed from icon to list view.
I think you may be right about installing apps though.

Looking for input on the best way to set up file folders to be utilized on both WebOS and Android partitions. I tend to go into probably Way too much detail, skip to the bottom for the tl:dr.
I first noticed that the TouchPad doesn't handle folders very well when I tried organizing many files for school. I had each class in a different folder hierarchy based on course. But when I go to access them, they show up as a huge long list of .pdfs instead of my nice organized fashion. Similar thing happened with my music. I shrugged my shoulders cause my file naming convention was good enough that I had no issues.
Then I installed CM7 Alpha 3.0 (recently flashed 3.5, same situation). Got the Android partition all setup the way I wanted, and further organized my folder structure to match. Rocked Android for a few weeks, and got nostalgic, so I booted back to WebOS. I immediately noticed that my TouchPad claimed I had no music, while not a lot, there's around 5gigs floating on it. Told myself I would look into it, spaced it off. That was until I noticed I couldn't access any recently downloaded and organized .pdfs that were done on the Android boot. What gives?
I've always found it frustrating that the native file selection system in WebOS doesn't give you file path options, but it is what it is. I know there is a file system browser on Preware, honestly I think it's cumbersome, but may have to rely on that I suppose. I have major OCD as far as how folders are organized, and really don't want to just dump everything on the root. But again, if I have to, I shall.
TL: DR Ultimately I'm trying to get info on how the WebOS partition sees files, and how the folder heirarchy works. I have files in some folders that are recognized, and some that are not. Is it naming convention, or just location? My file issues are primarily .pdfs and music files, but concerned with any productivity file extensions for the sake of school (primary use of device.)
16Gb TouchPad WebOS 3.0.4, F4 Phantom kernel, great number of patches, Dual boot CM7 3.50
Did you (or anyone else) ever find any information on this issue? I find it frustrating having to go through Internalz Pro and go through each folder to do anything. My music will not show up through the stock player (which would be great on webOS because the android sound goes bad when the screen is off).
I have not. Haven't played with my TouchPad much recently, mainly cause every ROM I flash wifi breaks.. lol.
If I ever do get a solid solution, I will try to post up.
im betting this a indexer issue if want try to force it to index, look for "Media Indexer Refresh" in preware, that should find any stray media supported by webos
Yeah, it's definitely an indexer issue. A lot of people used to say to connect it via USB and then do a hard unmount (where it says "ouch...") and let the indexer run but that doesn't work.
Thank you for that suggestion though, it is exactly what I needed. I always thought there should be some command or some patch that would force it to re-index but never found it. I ran it one time and my pics and music show up. Awesome!!
