[Q] Questions regardin HD2 T-Mobile! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good evening! I just bought a T-Mobile HTC HD2 and I want to know what program can I use to watch(convert) movies on it, as any movie I put on it, doesn't play it fluently, but with interruptions. Are there any codecs to install so that i can play movies on it?i also tried to put some avi/mp4 videos and they dont play at all .Although the manufacturer claims the phone can play Avi/mp4 etc! I know the phone comes with a card and with Transformers 1 & 2, but I didnt get the card from the person who sent it to me and I was just curious how those movies play. Can i find the movies anywhere? In the past i had 2 HD2's(not T-Mobile HD2) and when i wanted to put a wallpaper bigger the the screens resolution, the phone resized it to be used as wallpaper, but HD2 T-Mobile does not resize them but it stretches it and it looks ugly.I have only one more question for now:can flash player be installed on it?I found another problem :i set the time to a location, but every time i turn off the phone, when i switch it on it returns to GMT+2 Helsinki,Riga,Sofia and the clock goes an hour forward(I'm from Romania).

all of these questions can be answered by searching the forums....
id give you some links but im posting from device and its a pain in the ass....

ok, quick response - but dude, for everything I cant answer in one line off the top of my head seriously just search (and don't use the bad search engine on this site - search on google with xda in the box)
xmedia recode - great for converting - has a special htc hd2 setting
you don't need to install any codecs but if you want to install coreplayer to tcpmp
wallpaper - seach that, or batch resize, or if you're using CHT test the different wallpaper modes.
if flashplayer means flash - then yes, but search that
for the location - go into settings ---> and somewhere there (I would check in all settings and not in the sense settings) you can turn off autoupdate. If you want an exact place just search
Hope that helped a little bit more.

The thing that i find very weird is that a phone so powerful and with such great capabilities, can't play a video the right way(without converting it)and my Nokia N8 plays avi and mp4 videos without any problem(without converting them). On my old HD2 i tried to play some converted videos, but those didn't play well at all. It's like a 30FPS video that plays good, and a video taken at 15-20FPS that doesn't play that good. The N8 is just a simple phone with a great camera, and it can't be compared with the great HD2 and it's great hardware.

one answer for video..plays all formats, no need for converting...drag/drop and play....coreplayer 1.3.6 (paid version) or tcmp player (same free version)..enjoy
for wallpapers_install cookies home tab (CHT), and CHT editor

MP4 and AVI are not a consistand file formats. If you think of them as folders inwhich video and audio compressed files are filed. For example a DIVX film is a .avi file. My DVD player can play back DIVX AVI files, but cannot playback some other AVI files.

Movie player?

Hello
I wonder what program/codec pack I should use to be able to watch the films that I watch on my computer. On my PC I use Media Player Classic with K-lite codec pack and I can watch mostly all film formats, including .flv and stuff. On my HTC I can hardly watch anything. I currently have Core Media Player and Windows media Player on my phone. What do I miss?
Thanks!
Mne
Try This...
I've used this for over a year now. It's not designed specifically for the Rose, but it works - that's all that matters!
Set the output resolution to VGA (640x480) and they will play fine. You can play the converted videos with HTC Album, no special codecs, or additional software required. I use it to converted .avi and .flv, but I'm sure it will convert a lot more than just those two formats
On my S710 (not tried on my S740) I use PocketTV Classic (free one) or TCPMP (Core Media Player) depending on the file type. Either is 100x better than Windows Media Player for any video I've tried but as grahamkdt pointed out you should use a utility to convert the source videos to a phone-friendly format: type (diff compression types require more or less CPU usage & may only work with certain players), resolution (pref match your screen res) and bit-rates that your media & phone can keep up so it's not choppy. Once you optimize video files & try a few players you should be able to get some pretty decent playback on a Rose considering I was able to on my old S710 which has a lot less power.

Cool thanks, hadn't seen that version.
As far as converting, why make your phone work harder than it has to & waste a ton of space on your storage card when you can just spend a few minutes converting videos to optimize for your phone? Especially with super fast computers these days it doesn't take a few seconds to a few minutes now. Of course you wouldn't convert in certain circumstances (like if the original wasn't very hi-res to start with) especially if you're only going to watch it once & delete to free up space but if you plan to keep it why not shrink it down and have it play even smoother? Besides they copy over usb or onto flash a lot faster when they're smaller. Plus not sure any phone can handle HD let alone blueray yet and who'd waste the space if it could.
haha yes i know bill, but in my case, unfortunately, i suffer from a serious case of laziness and procrastination so i just can't really be bothered with getting more programs and go through all the work to convert stuff, i dun even convert the ones that i want but can't watch on the mobile lol those that i want but can't i just watch them on the computer and curse my mobile with some nasty words

[Qeustion] Movies on HD2?

Hello there Community,
I have been reading alot of these forums and on the web.
Atm using Energy 26june 23569 with 2.10.50.28_2 (best for me).
Now i want to convert some VOB (Dvd) movies/files to the best suitable extention to play fullscreen on the HD2 (i can for example make .wmv with moviemaker).
The problem is, when i convert a file of 100MB to MP4 642*480 i CAN watch them fullscreen in the default CAMvidplayer (dunno how its named), without any problem .. but when i code a vid to 1.5gb mp4, it hangs on video, and only plays sound.
Hope someone can help me with this and give me a few good instructions/links to do so.
Dont know if this topic is in the right forum though, sorry if it isnt.
Thanks!

Thread moved to Q&A.
Please post there if you have a question in the future.
Mark.
Ahh sorry, stupid of me i didnt even see the Q&A
there is a program called mp4hd mate it was made for the original HD but there is an extra file with it to add settings for hd2 give that a try its here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478050
I always split fulllenght movies into 2 parts, cause file above 1.5g
tend to have hiccups every 5-10min (5sec freeze).
But i never have a full picture freeze.
What bitrate are you using?
What codec are you using?
I use h264 codec around 1600kb.
Get your hands on a program called Coreplayer.
And as for converting, try to convert to 800 by 480 as that is the devices resolution. Anything below will become choppy, above isn't bad but it may cause stuttering during playback.

Same qeustion here
Wish it can be fullscreen
I've sucessfully converted several videos and full length movies to mp4 to play on my hd2 using VLC, I noticed though it's important to make sure to select a maximum resolution of 720p. Still looks good on the screen, plays full screen and no stutters or freezes. Hope that helps.
I use "Any video Converter", for all my devices, here are a few reasons why I like it...
It's really easy to trim off the beginning and the ending of videos in the apps built in player to make the videos shorter and smaller.
Remember's my custom settings
Choose my Frame Rate, Video Bitrate, Video Framerate.
Many settings with the audio choices.
Can Place multiple files to convert one after the other.
It's free and they keep updating it regularly.
Video Conversion
I used "Format Factory" to convert some AVIs for the HD2. Not only do they play now they play in HTC's video player just like Transformers. Different settings and a few different resolutions and they all seem to play just fine...
"Format Factory" is free and a small download.

Just purchase the app in the market and put the movies on your SD card. You can drag and drop. It is just as simple as using iTunes, if not more simple because iTunes is prohibitive and not very user friendly.
If you're watching movies at home you can use VLC Stream and Convert. It encodes movies on your computer and transfers them. Until the X10 has native DNLA support this is the next best option. Perhaps it may be even better because anything you can decode on the computer is virtually what you can watch on the X10, other than Real Media encoded files in my experience. Haven't contacted the developer (TravelDevel - very awesome developer), so it could just be the codecs on my computer. Not too sure.. (video works, sound doesn't)
Sorted. Thanks to all for your help
I use SuperC to convert anything I'm putting on, that way you know it will play and can resize to fit the screen perfectly.
http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Handbrake is pretty sweet for ripping dvds, too
It produces mp4 files which can then be watched with the shipped player

You're welcome! Nice to hear you have sorted it out...
I use xilisoft video convertor to convert my movies from my K750i - W800i - PSP - W960i - X10i days.
Still like using it.
I think whichever softwares you use, as long as you get the configurations right and save to mp4, it should be all right~
I've downloaded the handbrake as recomended but I'm unable to get it to rip any DVDs. All I'm getting after scanning is a black blank box and nothing else. Can anybody help or recomend any other free software I can use. I have got aura dvd ripper pro which I downloaded to use for my kids arcos 405 but the audio track is always around 5 seconds behind the picture.
Where am I going wrong? You guy's all seem to have it sorted. I spend a lot of time in hospital and would so like to rip my films and put them on my X10 so I can watch them when I'm away.
Has any of you cleaver lot got any goo ideas onhow I should proceed??
Sorry for hijacking, which format is best suited for X10 when I convert with handbrake ?
Picture size, file format.. ?

[Q] coreplayer vs TCPMP for movie playback?

Sorry guys I know this has been asked in various guises and people debate the access to subtitles and ac3 filter.
I currently use TCPMP on my phone so that my young son can watch movies on it when we travel (cartoons etc)
It was fine until I recently tried to upgrade the netdrg version (one that I like and seems to work nice out of the box) to v2.1 and I have had some problem.
Doing to do a ROM upgrade over Xmas so trying to decide what software I want to install on it, what looks to keep and what to bin etc.
Ignoring the cost aspect and bearing in mind the purpose is to watch (say) Kung Fu Panda in full screen mode, is there any benefit of one over the other:
-ease of use; quality of playback etc?
Specifically I would probably look to use Netfrg v2. (once I can find a solution to the skin problem) vs Coreplayer 1.36 (latest version I think)
Both Coreplayer and TCPMP don't use hardware acceleration, so it may be worth using Windows Media Player.
You can use this converter to get the files into a format WMP can play, it also supports HD inputs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
As per your original question, TCPMP is free but Coreplayer seems to have more settings and supports streaming from myplayer (which I use to watch live TV).
I've not noticed any particular difference in quality, it just depends on the quality of the original file I suppose. As for ease of use, they're pretty much the same I think. All the basic functions you need are on the main player screen and they both support playlists.
A couple of notes about Coreplayer I've noticed though, it has single click pause enabled by default so if you try changing between full screen/normal mode it keeps pausing it. Also, repeat is on by default. These are both minor points and can be changed in the settings menu.
Hope that helps.
Many thanks.
Re-encoding takes and age and it is much easier to drag and drop avi files on the SD card to watch on the fly which is why I have not bothered with the WMP option to date
I recommend you using any build of android, then use the rockplayer, the version for the Arm v7, it works flawlessly and accept any type of media.
good to know thanks.
Android dual boot is pencilled-in after the upgrade to WWE 3.14

[Q] How to convert .mkv videos and subtitles

I have lots of movies in .mkv format with .srt subtitles.
Can you recommend a free Windows program that can convert these into one package that my S3 can play?

instead of converting you can try using mx video player from market, it has support for all types of subtitles
That's a good idea, and I will probably go with that - however at the moment I'm wanting to show off the features of my new phone to work colleagues, and popup play (although it's a gimmick) seems to impress! So I want to use the standard built in video player for that reason
Any suggestions? Is it even possible to combins .mkv & .srt into one file? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to audiovisual stuff :-D

I tried using that and it seemed to be doing the job ok - (using the associated program MKVExtractGUI) it allows you to select the elements of video/sound/subs you want.
However the H264 file it spat out at the end won't play properly in VLC on my computer - it's jerky, jumping up and down from about 8 frames per second to 25fps and back again, lots of artifacts, and no sound or subtitles (despite me selecting those elements to be included).
If it barely plays in VLC on my laptop I doubt it's going to play on my phone...
Any more ideas?
Have you tried using the stock video player? It plays MKVs and subtitles out the box.
I tried that, that would be ideal - but it didn't play the mkv files i gave it. I'll try a couple of others and report back...
Ok well I've just found the first chink in this phone's armour:
It's very fussy about the .mkv files it will play.
It outright refuses some. Others it will play the video but no audio. Some it will play perfectly, unless you try and activate subtitles under the settings menu, in which case it craps out, freezes, and gives me a "this video cannot be played message." Even if I do manage to get it to play subtitles along with the video and audio, it's well out of sync - like minutes out of sync....

Well if you do have to end up re-encoding your videos, try out Format Factory. It's free and has a ton of options.
I would suggest using MP4 and 'burning in' the subtitles. If you can't understand the the language you might as well have them a part of the video.
Thanks, I'll give that a try
