Okay so my phone decided to do a force close on everything that i tried to do so I turned it off and tried to turn it back on again but all i was getting was the galaxy screen flash up and then it would turn black.
I flashed with Odin 3 times now and it says that it was successfull but when i go to turn the phone on it reboots and says that the data wipe has failed and then continues to flash the galaxy screen and then black. Can someone please help. I am a noob and haven't done anything but flash my phone.
The answers you are going to get are to odin back to stock, however ive had this problem and to get past it I had to do a factory wipe all data in the recovery menu then it booted. You lose all data. Before you do that try cycling the phone through restarts with battery pulls, I had another issue where doing this kicked me into normal boot after about 18 tries. I'm no expert but this is how I got fixed. Mine was a busy box issue it was never installed right

yeah, i agree w/ kcp about the battery pull... I would try this to see if you can get your system up and running, so that way you can dl Titatium Backup and Rom Manager. I had a problem on mine that would not let me reinstall packages and then it would never leave recovery, but after i pulled the battery, rebooted, and downloaded rom manager, i found that it was the same issue as kcp (busy box had to be updated). I don't understand why, after you re-flashed the Rom w/ odin it is not working.... did you flash 2.1 or 2.2? Remember, after you flash with odin you need to wipe data and chached memory, then reboot (maybe a battery pull). Try to give more info about exactly how you flashed w/ odin.
Also my titanium says it downloads busy box but doesn't had to go get it from the market and put it in the x bin you might want to do the same when it boots to be safe.

How do i know if i flashed with 2.1 or 2.2? How do you wipe data and cached memory? I turned it back on after i flashed and it showed that it was rebooting and wiped the cached memory but the data wipe failed.
also, my phone is not unlocked
Update: I flashed with 2.2 but I did not know that it was for tmobile. I am with bell. Now i can't get it to go into download mode so that I can flash with the right rom. It also won't charge when plugged in. Am i going to have to just get a new phone?
anything on this yet? mine is cycling aswell and cant get it into DL mode ;(

Ok so, I've flashed back to stock JFD dozens of times, rerooted, etc etc etc. Done this many times. Just did again tonight, and now every time i try to go into recovery mode and hit reinstall packages to get into the actual mode where I can install a zip or whipe dalvik (etc), instead it continuously reinstalls update.zip and reboots over and over and over and over again. Deleted update.zip from my SD card, says it can't detect update.zip so nothing can be done. Put it back on, it insists on continously reinstalling the same damn thing. Getting a bit frustrated, can anyone shine a little light?
Re-root.

Already did, same result. Thinking about just re-flashing stock, been tinkering with this a lot longer than I meant to.
reflash clockwork, get a new update package the old one may be corrupt. and update package twice and then blue recovery should turn from blue to green.
Ok figured it out. Tried reflashing clockwork mod via rom manager, it'd just hang. Reinstalled rom manager, same result, still unable to go to green recovery. Unroot via one click, reroot via one click. Reinstalled Rom manager, flashed clockwork mod again, was able to finally go to green recovery.
Took a little bit to find the right formula there, wanted to see if I could do it while avoiding reflashing stock.
i always like to odin it may take longer but it gets rid of all the old ghost roms i have on my phone.

Agreed. I always clean my phone out between roms with Odin.
Hi Guys
I flashed the leaked ICS but hate it. Can I flash to stock GB via Odin? What about the baseband versions etc.., would it matter?
Sorry, I read another thread but it's unclear and I want to avoid bricking. Thanks
As far as what I've read you can flash stock from Odin or even use CWM to a previous nandroid of gingerbread.

If you got your Note from AT&T, simply flash this stock ODIN:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
I went from ICS back to Gb cause I missed the tethering and it was easy. Just make sure you clear the caches and all should be well.
Thanks.. I was worried of the different baseband would have any adverse effect, but it doesn't sound like it will. I'll give it a try.
I Odin'd back to stock and I'm in a world of ****. My phone cant do anything, it just gets stuck on every swipe and reboots about every 5 minutes. Does anyone have any ideas?
Mines fine..only baseband is different, phone works.
Before I Odin to stock, I booted into recovery, factory reset and wiped cache. Odin, then booted into recovery and performed another factory reset and wiped cache again.

You get it figured out? I did the same thing. . My old apps still there. I can tell it is gingerbread, but nothing works now. I hope you got your figured out!!
When I boot into recovery I get the screen that tells me to use the up and down keys and when I choose factory wipe, and press power button, nothing happebs. If I hold it down eventually the phone shuts off. When i restart it, nothing changed.

I had to revert from ICS to GB yesterday and, even tho I am on Telus, I had success by flashing the pda-odin-att-stock.rar image
I can't post links .. I'm too new. But literally.. google what's bolded above and you will find the hotfile link.
It replaced everything (including the recovery) ... FULL system image. Solved everything and brought me back to 100% stock.
So yes, I lost my root and my CWM recovery software.. but it got my phone working again.. I can reflash CWM and re-root as I need.
After the install, wipe cache, factory reset etc.
I too flashed the stock ATT rom but like the previous poster, it gave me a phone which started up but wouldn't work. When I tried to get into recovery mode, it went to a screen with the recovery mode stuff at the top, but with a yellow warning sign in the middle and some words about manual mode, and it would not let me do a wipe or reset.
Here is what I just did that did work.
I flashed the recovery-i717-cwm-b4.tar file with odin. This worked and allowed me to get into the "proper" recovery mode to do a wipe and factory reset, as well as a cache wipe. I then reflashed tieh the stock ATT rom, and my phone now is back to stock.
Current issue
Odin recognizes phone. I can get to download mode. it turns off. Ive let it set for 24 plus hours prior to this and there is no change. It will stay on for 10 to 15 seconds then turn off.
I have repartitioned, put in a new pit and kernel. it will not stay on long enough to install a new ROM.
leading up to this i had a sleep of death issue. that progressively got worse. It would turn on and be fine tell it went to sleep i could use all the apps if i stopped and it went to sleep i would have to reboot. I had during this point cleared all the cache devlik etc. to no avail. i then decided to flash to stock. I got about 10 seconds into the ROM flash and it turned off. now I'm at the point described above.
This has been w/ and w/o sim and external flash memmory
Thank you for any suggestions and help.
How old is your battery, and what kernels have you experienced this with?
What is a quick recap of what you were running/tried while this SOD problem started occurring, seems related to the DL mode shutting off.
Battery is the orginal, but i have 2 batterys 2 vibes. i switch batteries every month or so due to im more battery heavy then my wife, i have used them both fully charged.
Icy Glitch or subzero, though i think it was Icy. i was running slim ics. this is the only kernel i have ever had a sod problem.
Only extra apps i have installed or had issue with, 1 kindle stopped working on me well b4 any of this happend around 3 weeks or so. i installed adilko. Also installed calorie counter and myfitness pal these are the only 2 that really can be related. I had started using myfp more then the other for cutting.
only run music for during work, eh and for books, no games. i use advanced task killer to kill extra apps, a couple times a day to save on battery,
otherwise phone calls and txting.
Can you boot to recovery mode? If you can, try a factory data reset. You could use adb to push a kernel zip to your internal sd and flash through cwm but only if you can actually boot into recovery mode. If that doesn't work you could try flashing a different kernel through odin. Kernels usually flash in less than 10 seconds in my experience.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk 2
I have already flashed a new kernel and pit.
i cannot get into recovery.
i can get on odin long enough to put a pit and kernal and repartition.
this made no change to my problem.
Have you tried flashing a custom kernel like Semaphore with CWM included and then try booting into CWM?

flashed semaphore. was able toget into cwm for 10 seconds before it shut down on me. now at least for a few seconds i have cwm. wait a sec it kept rebooting into it i cleared dev init.d cache fixed permissions, i was able to mount my usb, still mounted for a few min i think it might be good. ill update, im thinking init.d was the culprit. ill update in 10 min or so to see if i can ge back on my phone.

I was meaning to flash a stock kernel only, then flash back to stock JFD. I'm pretty sure you don't load a pit file when flashing just a kernel but I could be wrong, it has been awhile since I flashed a kernel through odin.

So i have been able to finaly get back to stock yay. its staying on long enough to get there. im flashing it now. and its up. SO If anyone has a Download sod error,

Hello.
Im using ripper rom on my s3 and everything on the phone was working ever since i got the rom(even going into reboots and recovery) but today i downloaded an update that i was supposed to flash and when i select reboot into recovery from the shutdown menu for some reason it went into download mode and i can't get it out of it =/
The only thing i did besides download the update(Which i didn't get to install/flash) was a backup with nandroid, but i did them before and restored from them and never had a problem.
Does anyone know what could it be and how to fix it? Do i really need to use the odin software? I have seen some threads that suggest a fix using odin and going back to stock, but i didn't even use odin on this rom (only once when i got the phone to put it back to stock and haven't used it again.
Thanks!

Can u enter recovery?

REMOVE THE BATTRY AND WAIT FOR 5 mins aND then insert it !
I couldn't even get into recovery =/ i ended up restoring back to stock firmware via odin, then installed recovery and root.
I finally got the phone working again, but i have no idea why it decided to go on a "download mode" loop. Hopefully it won't happen again and if it does, i will try your advice to take the battery out for 5 minutes and see if works ( i did remove the battery but put it back right away to try to go into recovery, but with no luck).
Anyway, thanks for the help!
Hey XDA
This all started when I didn't put my phone on charge one night, and the morning after I got a text then I went to read it, my screen flickered and my phone crashed, this was usual when my phone dies.
However this time, when I put my phone on charge, it wouldn't boot up, it would stay at the boot animation screen.
I was running AOKP 4.2.2.
I then thought it was just a corrupt ROM so I went to re-install the ROM.
First, when I went to wipe the dalvik cache it said it had failed, this immediately showed warning signs, then when I went to install the ROM from my SD card it said that had failed also.
This left me only 1 option, to restore back to the stock ROM through Odin.
This seemed to go fine until I got to the end went instead of booting into an "android is updating" type thing, it was stuck on a boot loop.
This now leaves me stumped for ideas, so I turn to you, how do I fix my phone?
I hope I can fix this phone as it is my only phone.
Thanks, Jem

after you install the stock rom via Odin boot into the stock recovery and do a factory reset and wipe the cache. should boot up after that.
one thing i notice after installing 5 different OTA though odin last night they dont wipe user data you have to do it your self. so i would give that i try im sure that should fix your problem
