After rooting, then flashing a custom ROM, some of my folder on the internal memory cannot be accessed via USB. When I click on the folder, I get a message stating "Please insert a disc into M:" then "M:\Titanium Backup is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect." I can view other folders ok, but about 10 of them give the same message as above, including a Video folder that contains tv shows and a Music folder I put on the internal memory.
Did permissions get screwed up on these folders? How can I fix this?
I have the same problem on my mac but its kinda different....my internal sd works but the external sd cannot be read and causes my mac so not work properly. Any fix...
I am using macnut 14

Bump. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I did a nandroid backup but I cant access it via USB & Windows. I can see the files with Astro though.
2 things.
1. You will get more help if you post it in the right forum. People generally ignore posts in the wrong forum. This is development not Q&A.
2. You said it only happened after flashed a custom ROM. How about ask in the thread of that ROM. Search the thread first.

The thread for that ROM has been locked for some reason, Axura. You are right, I meant to post this in the Q&A forum.
Thread moved to Q&A.
It happen to me. I think in my case was because of corruption of the system folder caused by the original Universal Lagfix. Anyway, I fix it by flashing through Odin the original Vibrant Firmware (I think is the JD6). I flashed some other firmwares but the problem remain until I flash the original one. I did choose Repartition every time but was only with the original firmware that the problem when away. I didn't loose any data, but make sure you backup as much as you can before this just in case.
Then after that I rooted again, install Rom Manager and CW recovery and flash back to froyo through recovery and everything is great ever since.
Hope this help and if it does make sure you post it for everyone's benefit.
Happy Holidays!!!
Well, I just tried to add the stock ROM to my internal memory so I can reflash it via Recovery, I cannot copy anything to that drive.
Is there some type of fix I can do via the phone?
Yea try flashing the mountingfix.zip Just use Rom Manager.fixed my same issues! Good luck!

I've tried a number of times with reloads, etc. to get the correct date with my CWM or TWRP recovery files. But all I get is them being sent to files dated 1970-01-01 as a prefix, rather than the right date (2012-07-11).
I'll use which ever works properly. Right now I am on TWRP, but was originally with CWM
What is causing this and what is the solution?
Also, the TWRP seems to only back to the internal storage, and I would like it to save to the external 16GB micro SD card. Where is the setting for this?
Many thanks.

Solution 1. Navigate to the TWRP or CWM backup folders and rename the backup files to the correct dates (No spaces!)
Solution 2. Sit tight and wait for this to be fixed. Everything for the VZW device is extremely new because of the lack of devices actually recieved
This is not just related to verizon. I am having the same issue with the dates for backups on my att version
Anyone willing to test out Koush's official Galaxy S III CWM (chose the Sprint version since it's closest)?

I also want to know the answer to this question, thanks for your reply.
Backups on my touch recovery are dated correctly.

There a lot thread about how to root nook or how flash custom rom but there no any guide for how to install ANDROİD OS to nook tablet ?? How i can convert my nook tablet to android,i cant find any guide..
Wrong section for asking questions! There's a Q&A section. Installing CM10 is the same as making it to an Android Tablet. Lots of guides, just look around in the correct section!

ok buddy dont judge me I was searcing but there a lot thing,i am confussed.
Custom ROMs = convert your proprietary nook tablet to ANDROID open source tablet.
Custom ROMs = pure ANDROID
The latest Android version is jellybean (4.2.2) if you don't want modified ANDROID versions but something more Google Android stock like then flash an AOSP ROM.
Google what AOSP means. Google is your friend.

Just a little extra to get you on your way:
To make your tablet an "android" tablet, you can either change the device itself, meaning load a custom ROM onto your tablet itself, removing any trace of the original Barnes and Noble Operating System Software, OR, create an SD card upon which you can load and then use to run a custom ROM (i.e., custom android operating system). The benefit of using an SD card ROM is that you do not disturb the original set up of your Nook, do not have to root the device, and therefor your warranty on the device remains intact. When you remove the SD card from your device, you are back to the old Barnes and Noble operating system, undisturbed. If you load a custom ROM onto the device itself, you void the warranty. (Of course, you could always, assuming you did not make a major error, reload the original Barnes and Noble operating system back onto the device at any point, leaving no trace of your shenanigans, and bring it in for warranty service....but there are a lot if "ifs" attached to that.)
So, having said that, if you are a bit hesitant about messing with your device's internal software, until you learn more, I suggested you look for a post on how to make an SD Card ROM. If you make an SD Card ROM, you do not have to root your device or mess with the internal software at all. I use them and thanks to all of the wonderful developers here (tip of the hat to the developers above who were kind enough to respond to you and all the others for their hard work) these work wonderfully!
FYI, this is a great community and very helpful. However, we are all expected to do our homework and should not expect anyone to hold our hand because we are too lazy to read. Don't take offense if you are not hand fed answers. You have to take care also, when you begin, to read entire threads as often issues pop up that may not be addressed in the original post (OP) which usually has a link to the most up too date version of that ROM.
I think I can find a useful thread to get you started but it's late right now and that might take me a few minutes. So, I will try to rememeber to find it tomorrow and post it for you.
Note: I think these days you don't even have to root your device to load a custom ROM directly onto it.....correct me if I am wrong fellow readers. I have no experience with loading internal ROMs, but did root back in the day. So, rooting isn't your biggest issue, it is whether you use an internal (emmc) ROM or an SD Card ROM, and what ROM you choose (each one has it's own benefits...you have to read about them). Do NOT post a question asking which is the best, you will not like the answer you get. They are all great, it's all about what features you want.
Welcome and good luck!

OK, here's what I dug up. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35683307&postcount=6
You can use any SD ROM you like. Once you have this bootabe SD card, "flash" whatever ROM you want onto it. Search for how to flash SD CARD ROM....careful you don't flash it to internal! You will need to read about and learn how to use Clockwork Mod "CWM" to do so, not to be confused with Cyanogen Mod, which you will also need to understand. Cyanogen Mod is the wonderful tool created to get you past the BN boot lock. It's what pops up once you are finished making the Bootable SD Card. It allows you to access all drives of your device and specifically gets you into "recovery=CWM" which you use to flash your ROM. It has an option for SDC BOOT, which lets you boot into your SD card ROM when it is ready!
Good luck!

Hello everyone hope you are all good.
Please could someone help me out? Yes im a noob I like to tinker with my phones but im a little stuck. I recently went and updated my phone to 4.2.2 but didnt like the way it set the file system up. eg emulating sd cards for multi user's and also the fact it changed the internal storage from sdcard to sdcard0.
Ok heres the problem I didnt make any sort of backup before the update (yes I know im stupid) . All I want to do is get the phones file system back to the way it was on 4.1.2 eg no emulated sd and the internal storage to be sdcard.
I've since gone back to stock 4.1.2 via Odin after using megawipe via the cwm recovery.
But this didnt fix it :crying: .
If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if ileft out anything you need to know but new to this never had to ask for help
use search, there's an exact same thread from a couple of days ago
you could use Root explorer to get your files back but seems you screwed up the phone :/

what didn't it fix?
After restoring to 4.1.2 it didnt fix the file system setup my internal storage is still called sdcard0, and instead of the normal path its storage/sdcsrd0 ??
how does that matter?

Read the basic faqs and guides first .
jje
Matters to me cos when I download and install an app I like to know where its going and the ability to move them to my external sdcard if need be.
Its down to personal taste at the end of the day... I didnt like 4.2.2 cos of the whole multi user mess. I thought that by joining here someone might be able to point me in the right direction . What controls the way the files and folders are sorted out.?
you are not able to move your files to external SD? you never mentioned it
Ive since gone back to 4.1.2 stock, still not able to move apps to the external sd cos after flashing 4.2.2 it messed up the file system. Even aftet flashing back its still the same

Was moving apps to external sd via GL to SD app. Was all working fine until flashing 4.2.2 which decided it would change where it put files and apps.
I used CWM recovery to use megawipe then odin to put 4.1.2 stock back on .
If anyone has a guide to megawipe then reflash without odin please let me know.
Atm im on 4.1.2 unrooted. :banghead:

in the same boat, I noticed my sdcard sppears wiped but isnt wiped. I hope people saying search etc. are not deliberatly witholding the answer because that isnt nice.
if the same question was asked 2 days ago in the same way why does this thread appear on google but the other doesnt.
I did this whilst connected to adb (with it booted in recovery)
Code:
adb shell
cd /data/media/0
mv * ../
cd ..
rm -rf 0
Also tho I had to remove duplicate folders from the /data/media first or the mv will fail. I am surprised no function has been added to recovery apps yet for this. Or maybe they think noone will ever downgrade from 4.2 (I think 4.2 is a bad version of android).

The people saying search generally are aware of the answer. In regards to /data/media/0, I wrote a thread on it and its in general in "sticky roll-up thread" which everyone is expected to read.
However it has since been determined that the OP's problem is completely different.
OP reports storage/sdcard0 which has in itself nothing to do with 4.2. All aosp roms use storage/sdcard0 for internal and storage/sdcard1 for external. Unless the OP Missed a / and means storage/sdcard/0 which is something all together different. Its a tricky one. Its hard to resolve without seeing it

well the forum is fragmented and as a result stickes are easy to miss.
eg. I did check the FAQ on Q&A section which didnt have the info, I will check the post you mentioned as am curious of course.

I agree it is fragmented. I don't see the benefit of separate general and q&a
I think we should have:
Android Development
Android Original Development
Q&A / Guides
Accessories.
But oh well.
As a very last resort could u not hook up to kies software and initialise your phone with mine it resets it back to factory as u 1st took it out of the box surely that would reset it bud

Hello! 2 weeks ago, i flashed CM 10.1.3 on my Galaxy S3(international) and now i am thinking of going back to the stock ROM.I have made a backup which stays in my clockworkmod folder in my file manager, and i was wondering how to return to my stock rom. As far as i know, i need to wipe the data from the phone before restoring my old backup(and the cache too, i think), but i am not sure if that would delete the backup files from my phone. And another thing i have been thinking about is,from what i remember from when i flashed my CM 10.1, the file was ZIP,but now the backup files in the folder and not in a ZIP file but seperate files, so will that be a problem?
Any help would be highly appreciated

Hey,
1st post here at xda. I have a s3 running 4.12 , stock rom vodafone in ireland.
I installed CWM and rooted phone. Then done a backup with CWM.
I tried to install R5 stock rom from internal sd card, i selected the zip file and the installation started but had an error
i coulnd;t see.
At this stage i panicked a bit. I tried again but wiped internal sdcard in CWM before i started.
Now the phone wont boot to any OS (since tried to install 2 other custom roms from xda, both times screnn went blank after choosing installation options)
Cant recover backup as its no longer on internal sd card.
I can access CWM. Should I start by installing stock rom from samsung site ?
Am I doing the custom rom installation correct by using CWM to install from zip file in sd card ?
I tried to install roms with odin but its looking for tar file ?
thanks for reading,
Phil
You are heading for a hard brick by not understanding what you are doing.
Go and read all the sticky threads in general forum, then carefully follow the guide on how to return to stock.
Once you have your phone working again then install the latest recovery version (I'd suggest philz), backup your efs, then try again.
Read and understand before you hit go.

thanks. Read the general forum, was helpful. Its a great site, but in fairness there is so much information and some of it is conflicting to me, (maby i'm losing it!)
got the phone booting up again so happy days. will take my time and do backup before trying any custom roms.
After spending days reading how to flash custom roms, i'm still not getting how to 'flash custom rom' , as per the instructions i add zip to sd card then use custom recovery to run zip file ? Other places say to use odin, but every custom rom i've downloaded doesn't contain a tar file ?
Just want to improve battery life with a better rom, phone is 2 years old and battery isn;t the best.
thanks
Do your research before attempting things like this. I'm relatively new in flashing, before I began the first time I made sure I followed and understood every steps before proceeding, go check youtube for tutorial videos if you are really not sure, sometimes it pays being paranoid

Hi there,
you've got to understand that your first post sounded like yo did not do your research at all, which generally tons of people don't do whining about
their bricked devices afterwards in the forums. If you don't understand what you do - don't do it.
Your original mistake was probably not properly wiping and/or formatting certain partitions (e.g. one forgotten wipe of system or data partition often puts your phone into BL, all depending on what version you come from & go to etc.) before flashing the zip from CWM (which is the way you usually flash custom ROMS, you're right).
Every ROM provides installation instructions which are to be follwed exactly. Never use a file not made for your specific device. Don't do anything before you know how to revert in case of disaster. Don't do anything before you got a full Nandroid & EFS backup both transferred to your PC. And again, understand what you do.

Installed philz recovery and done backup to ext sdcard (errored out was <1 G free space on card)
Done backup to internal sdcard - had about 7GB free
Copied recovery folder back to PC.
Installed Revolution ROM and afterwards noticed internal memory only 1GB
Am now copying the blob folder to PC.
Is this the case with all of the recoveries to use so much space doing a backup ?
Where do I read up on the 0 folder here, i've searched but there is so much info its a bit confusing.

I know the subject has been covered already, just looking for a thread where i can read in simply form about what to do.
I copied blob file to pc , freed up another 4 gb, OS and backups still taking up 12/16GB of internal storage without any user app or data , just not right.
