[Q] Please HELP!!! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have had my HD2 for about 2 months and have been reluctant to add Android because I believe this WinMo 6.5 can work well. CHT has been an awesome addition but after a couple of weeks I experienced freezing and ultimately the phone hard reset itself. I turned it off and when it turned back on, it was at the startup screen and all my info was gone. So I replaced all my contacts and began slowly adding my apps back on. I have been using the newest Opera 10 for my browser and noticed that when the phone freezes every couple of weeks and I have to reset it (3 times now) it is right after trying to open the browser, it gives me a long error about the operamvi4 or something to that effect. So I removed the browser and am wondering a few things
Has anyone else had this problem?
What does it mean that the browser is not working with my otherwise stock phone?
What browser should I use, tried Skyfire and it would not connect to its server, so i uninstalled it.
Ive been using Iexplorer, but am not at all thrilled with its ease of use or it download screen.
I would think that after hard resetting this phone that problems would not happen, but even running stock, I still have issues.
BTW, I want CHT back on my phone but am reluctant now because after a week to 2 weeks, the phone freezes and I have to HR.
Please help, I know this is a long ramble, but I just want to know if I can do anything before talking to TMobile for a hour and half before they send me a new one.
Thanks
Ken

A lot of people have had issues with the stock roms on the hd2. I would recommend going with a custom rom.
Also, when you use android on the hd2, you won't be losing winmo... android runs off of the SD card, so you can have both on your phone. Use winmo for most of the time, then play around in android when you want to play games or use android apps. That's what I do.
But for now, I recommend reading up on how to install hspl and flash your phone... your phone will be much more stable and usable with a good custom rom. Energy roms are a good rom to flash for your first time... and there are versions with cht2.0 cooked in already.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

ive always found opera 9.7 that comes as stock to be the best browser.
+1 on the energy roms too....

I'd say my HD2 froze at least 3-4 times per day with the stock ROM, I was so pissed & thought I'd wasted $200 on the upgrade. But then I thought, what the heck it's no good to me this way so before I sell it on ebay I'll mess with a custom ROM to see if that helps. Well help it did and I kept it around a little longer but still needed to reboot a couple of times a day just to speed things up. Then android came along and I only see winmo when I update builds, to me it's so much better than winmo I wonder whats the point of 7, really who cares? Android is easy to work with once you get to the point of being able to flash a custom rom, try it.

I use a cooked ROM beacuse the one that came with my phone, in my experience, is too unstable. Or the software I keep installing on it is...
Anyways, I might even try making my own ROM, if I just figure out how...
(yes, there are loads of tuts on net, found a nice one for Diamond here)
yep, the first day i used TP, i had a crash. So that day i changed my rom directly
I remember the first time when i flashed my fone. I was so nervous. reading reading and again reading, just to make sure.
Yeah, I remember when I flashed my tytn for the first time, it was nerve wracking!! I kept having flashbacks from when I attempted to upgrade my firmware on an HP PPC (non phone), and bricked it.
but the tytn went quite well, I should be getting my Fuze tomorrow, and i'll probably go with the soft reset during setup to avoid bloatware, then wait till something pisses me off enough to flash to NotATreoFan's ROM.
I'm soooo excited!
I literally purchased my Fuze last night, came directly home and flashed ROMeOS onto it. The AT&T ROM is just horrible. It's slow, ugly, bulky, just outright disgusting. I can actually foresee alot of returns on this unit from people who do not know about custom ROMs or XDA in general.
Lighting a Fuze
I used the stock ROM for less than 24 hours, by design, since I wanted some experience using Touch Flo. I did not like it. Touch Flo and my fat fingers do not a match make. I spend last night, yawn, installing ROMeOS 1.4 (I like Hang Tuah's stuff, I have since very early Kaiser/Tilt). Before ROMeOS, my favorite was Dutty's ROM. But even his ROMs, while virtually bulletproof, are "over full". I light light, simple, fast and able to handle the web, phone, contacts and calendar...simultaneously.
Still, with all the ROM changes I have made, each is a little nerve wracking. Since this was my first with the new Fuze, I read a lot of XDA forum entries. And did things exactly as Hang Tuah and others with experience suggested.
Worked perfectly. (Whew!!)

My brand new pro booted 1 time the vodafone rom, used it 2minutes,after that i flasht it already
The original vodafone rom from the netherlands touch pro [email protected] ,cooked rom much faster/stable if you ask me
The second i had a chance, I put on romeos on my Fuze -
Installed the keyboard drivers, and some tweaks here and there.
Best choice so far.
Within 30 minutes of leaving the ATT store, my Fuze was running the Elite ROM. I've had enough devices to know that nothing stock is ever as good as something cooked up here!

I love cooked roms as well. While using the Diamond, I'd constantly be on the lookout for new versions of Dutty's roms. Now that I'm using a Raphael, I look out for the new versions of ROMeOS as well as the Elite versions to play around with.
I got my Touch pro about 10 days ago, It has the official 1.90.405 rom.
I find it very stable and serve all my need realy.
No crash, nothing what so ever of what I see people around here complaining about.
I must say I am very happy with this phone.
Regards
as soon i get it from expansis first thing what i did, change the spl is happened before actually i powered up the device 1st time. ... then just have fun....
This is my first windows mobile phone, came from a long line of sony ericsson phones, used the stock rom for a few days and figured this phone is going back to the shop.
Eventually i found my way here and read about the different roms, decided to flash and i think i have tried most of the known roms here by now
moral of the story is that now the phone is a keeper instead of a item i returned.
Currently using V09 by PDAVIET but will upgrade to V10 due to some bugs.
All i need now is a ssh client that uses the resolution of the phone in a proper way then im really happy.

I too like the original htc rom but I cannot stand the voice calling feature...I use microsoft voice command so I cooked up a rom and only removed a few things I did not like to be in rom and it runs stable as hell with no memory leaks and just do not trust all the **** others do with the rom. It runs perfect. Once htc comes out with a newer rom I will do the same thing unless I find a perfect rom that someone else makes. I did use other light versions cooked by others for the diamond but with the pro and all that damn memory it comes with its perfect without a few crappy programs that come with it.....

I too Have been playing about cooking the stock Vodafone ROM. I flashed and unlocked it the day I got it as I got the handset on my work contract but wanted to use it on my Personal T-mobile contract as I have a 10GB data allowance on TMob I might release my ROM at some point as I personally thinki it is fast, light and stable. I Also cooked in a few other goodies such as .net CF 3.5 and the Youtube app from an ATT ROM I extracted.

Sounds almost the same as me, except I come from a background of Nokia phones, very happy with the phone now it is cooked
SSH client wise, I use pocketputty which I am very happy with, as ssh clients go, as it allows me to store a ppk file for auth.
i drove from the AT&T store directly to my home PC to flash my Fuze. cooked roms rule. plus it is fun to play with new toys.
The day i got my TP i installed HardSPL and right after that i went to 1 of the first cooked roms from chainfire (firerom).

Do I have to flash my ROM to get the newest TouchFlo 3D?

Right now I'm running the stock Sprint ROM. All I really want to change (man I'm getting boring in my old age!) is the TouchFlo version. I reallllly want the calendar tab on the main screen.
Do I have to flash my entire ROM to get that or can you just upgrade/install over the old TouchFlo? I search the forums here with a variety of key words but everything I found pointed back to ROMs of some sort.
Thanks for the help guys!

You can probably upgrade to a later version of TF3D, but truth be told... it would me much simpler to flash since there is a slew of things that need to be done to get the extra tabs and such. Besides, flashing to something like the NRG roms will boost your TP's performance... a lot!
Do you have any suggestions?
I actually just gave my Touch Pro to my wife... so while *I* have a huge tolerance after years and years of flashing ROMs and tweaking phones for the hiccups that come with such matters, I don't want to put her in a position of having to trouble shoot her phone without me or it crashing on her.
She's all about juicing up her phone with a new ROM but I don't want it to be horrible experience for her.
I was looking, earlier today, at NFSFAN's rom. It seems to be very well received although it looked like people were having trouble with the push-based syncing (which would be a deal breaker since her phone syncs to Google)

NFS is usually good... I would try that as well as NRG, Mighty, Vevitto, and probably Juicy. Hope that helps...

How to upgrade it? ive installed the Stock ROM on my TP(GSM) from site sunnysoft.com/htc/ and its kinda flawless and very very fast. I dont wanna change the ROM but i could use the calendar tab from sense 2.1 cos i find it very handy.. is there a way to add it to my tf3d ?
I tried to install sense 2.1 from cabs on this ROM but had the problem updating weather so i dropped it, besides that the ROM wasnt working so smoothly anymore.

Stuff for Sense/TF3D tend to write and drop a bunch of files under the Windows directory, which (under most cases) will slow down your device. So, getting it pre-cooked is always better as it is cleaner than the installation.

updated to 2.2 and now problems

I updated the phone at tmobile because it wouldn't update from my computer at home. I was running stock j16 and now the phone has these problems, any help would be appreciated
gps no longer works wont lock and takes a long time to find sats thirty minutes or more. I cleared the caches and still no worky, worked fine on j16.
alarm clock wont work?
ringer will work and then not work?
Phone is lags and is glitchy, it has not froze like it did when new.
I am thinking about loading a rom on this phone as it is my third vibrant, and the other two had issues and this one worked fine with a little lag. and now it sucks as bad as the two that got returned. I did load a rom on one of them before I returned it and it kept freezing up to the point that I had to pull the battery.
any suggestions would be appreciated
I've heard of issues with phones that upgraded form 2.1 -> 2.2. My father's being one. He refuses to root his phone or install a custom ROM but he said that the Samsung GPS Restore app from the market helped him.
Not sure about the alarms or ringer issues. Make sure you go into settings and set the ringtone for each one again.
However, I would recommend installing a custom ROM. It will give you a fresh install (always good!) and more than likely a much faster/more enjoyable phone .
Root the phone and install a custom rom there is benefit using the stock.. If it is giving you problems just abandon and load something decent like, Axura, EDT, Trigger or Bionix
I was thinking of loading honey 2.4, but when I read all of the info on the roms, it gets confusing with all of the different kernals and lag fixes etc. I tried axura (I hope I spelled it right) and it was really buggy on the phone I sent back. It kept freezing and falling a sleep to where I had to pull the battery and re boot. I have been hesitant ever since. I use this phone a lot and really depend on it for business. My G1 was a lot mor dependable. lol.
Jusr root it and install a custom rom. Bionix-v 1.3.1 is great. And you cannot brick these phones unlesss your a complete idiot... phone is worth owning once a custom rom is on. Before that these things are grass

My severe problem with Amaze 4G, all the roms I install act faulty.

Hi,
I'm having severe problems with my Amaze for weeks now. Thing is, I can't find a ROM that just works for me, nothing fancy or special, I just want to flash something and use my phone rather than flashing ROM every few hours.
First let me tell you about my phone:
It's T-Mobile Amaze 4G, S-ON and with 4EXT recovery.
My problems are that:
1) After each phone restart, most of the times phone doesn't find my SD card and as I store my apps on it, I have to restart again and again and hope for a time that it does find my SD card.
2) Whenever I tweak a ROM, even a bit, and I don't mean hack, just using the option the ROM itself provides like tweaks that Revolution does, phone crashes constantly and I have to reflash.
3) I have severe problems with ICS ROMs that seem stable and people are saying that they use regularly.
4) Even if I don't try to customize a ROM, phone gets into weird problems like crashes at startup or stuck at htc logo that leaves me into reflash.
I got this phone from my brother who was using 2.x ROMs on it but I wanted Nexus look so I upgraded to ICS with ph185.img and then been trying almost all ROMs but I'm yet to find something that I can safely put my sim card in it without worrying that it might miss a call or drain battery fast.
I first wanted Nexus pure android look but I now fell back to htc stock look and been trying all other ROMs, even though downloading ROMs is very expensive. Maybe I have to S-OFF and fall back to 2.3.4 ROMs.
Any help is highly appreciated as I'm so desperate and can't afford another phone for at least a year.
Thanks.

Lol just try to do it from the beginning it mite help run a ruu and use it for a couple days and see if any previous error comes if not flash a rom and enjoy it

Tried that already.
Any other solution?
Right before I make this topic, I was happy with Revolution HD but then after like 10 days it got into a very unstable phase in which that it would automatically restart itself constantly even without me touching it.

root, re ROM -advice

Hi all,
noob alert. While I am a tech and run linux at home(windows at work) Im old, tired and grumpy slow :lol
I am the only one in the family still using their original S2. I have two other S2s that have "died" with no sim recognition. (one of which my son uses just to play games. ie wifi and everything else is fine just no network) I guess I look after mine better. I found some articles on the web and will be reading into this.
Lately however Ive gone thru a decreasing battery life(well it is getting old +2yr) Lasting about 7-8hrs (I gave it an external charge discharge cycle and its down to 65%)
Also trouble with updates(insufficient memory). No manner of clearing cache ( *#9900#) and having very limited apps installed seems to help. My solution has been to uninstall FB allow everything else to update then reinstall the bloated FB.
Has a tendency to lock up or run slow ..or maybe im just loosing patience lately.
After a fair amount of reading I have deduced that
1) root the device then delete the many bloatware I dont need.. which should at least alleviate the insufficient memory problem
Probably purchase another battery
2) install a custom ROM
3)try n work out if I can get sim access back on the other units.
I have one working must have S2 which for now I wont touch but will try the root etc on one of the spares.
I guess Im just checking in to see if people are about when it all goes belly up to help me.
There seems a myriad of ROMs n kernels etc which has me at present a little confused. more reading. I am not after bleeding edge just stable phone that allows a few tool like apps without crashing or hitting the no memory.
Im happy to run some analytical apps if someone can point me at them to gleam further info.
Some phone specs:
GT-I9100
Android 4.1.2
Kernel 3.0.31-1287495
unlocked
telstra
Running Clean Master app does not really seem to help matters.
Power saving on
wifi is on most of the day. GPS,bluetooth off.
Charged overnight (9:30-5:30) Used to last till 9:30 before running low. Nowadays wont make it to 4pm before complaining.
applications 1.34g of the 1.97. 11gb of USB storage(10 available)
32g sd card(28 available)
Hi @vector180,
Welcome to XDA. First there are plenty of S2 users on this forum who would be happy to help if you get stuck. I think you will be glad if and when you root your phone and start using custom roms. As with anything though, there are pros and cons. The camera and some other functional elements of the phone may not work as well, especially with AOSP based roms. But you can get around that by using a touchwiz based rom such as neat rom.
I believe the pros outweigh the cons though, as you can get really good performance with a lot of the custom roms out there, and things like space issues will be a distant memory. You just have so many more options once you have root access.
All I can advise is read as much as you can. You are in the right place to start with here at XDA. Search the forums, use google and if you haven't found the answers you are looking for, you can always ask on one of the threads. Good luck
I recently started rooting too (about month or two ago) And yesterday I managed to unlock boot loader of Huawei g620s and install custom recovery and then rom for my friend using adb. If you will read and have some patience you will be doing it flawlessly soon So you can be sure that there are still people here starting and helping new ones in rooting i9100 ^^
Wish you luck Vector

thx guys,
ok so I found the old "spare" S2.
Id like to image my "real" phone and copy it to the spare then play around with it. Thus leaving my real one untouched.
first of all.
the spare is running ICS not jelly bean. first thing I noticed was it had heaps of memory..even after I installed fb and some crud to prove the phone was still working.
It also ran smoother, battery seemed fine(normal well certainly better than my real one). And accepted the SIM card... why was it in trouble last time..dont know maybe a year in the dark draw has taught it a lesson.
So either I have hardware issues on the real one or maybe its Jelly Bean causing the probs.
Yeah I need to image the spare(so I can restore it back to its current "good working order" if I bungle things).
update it to Jelly. see if it bogs down
clone the "real" image on to it ..see if it bogs down.
By that stage seeing as the spare phone working, I can try some custom ROMs
Problem is I cant get a simple (image) backup system working. see my other posts.
reading continues.
