you have them both?
why not just use them both
if you can have both that's better. I haven't really used an iphone 4 to test it out but all i know is that it has more and better applications than the vibrant.

personally... i would keep the iPhone 4 and sell the Vibrant if you couldnt keep both. android phones tend to depreciate more in resale value compared to the iPhone line. plus iOS does have better games and more higher quality apps. Micro-sim is not a real problem since the original tmobile sim can be cut down to size, or go to the tmobile store and ask to change to a micro-sim. they do have a limited stock of micro-sims.
The Vibrant does most of what the iPhone does and better in most cases. Excellent Samsung Music player/Samsung DAC, excellent Samsung SAMOLED display panel, 3G connectivity, etc. it only makes more sense to keep the Vibrant. I had an iPhone before getting my Vibrant and I don't miss it. The main reason why I hated Android was because of the horrible sound quality and god awful "music player".. Samsung solved that and gave us some other extras to boot with the TouchWiz interface.
It's backing is not glass either, which was just a stupid move on Apple's part.
If you need iTunes, miss iOS only apps not yet ported to Android and / or find Android's user interface too complicated then stick with the iOS of the iPhone 4.
If you can do without iTunes (DoubleTwist with optional AirSync is a good replacement), like having the ability to design every home screen to very specific liking with more than mere icons, the freedom to move files on / off the device without syncing, the removable battery and expandable storage then stick with the Vibrant.

I hate I tunes and apple lines of stuffs...I like their hardwares..iphone4 is a true beauty...and I do realize not be able to drag and drop files will be pain in ass. Plus I don't want another music software on my computer.
I'll be on att network from tomorrow and soon will get vibrant unlock code. I also wanna see how 3g works on that.. if I like...android will be my choice. ...but still so hard to decide.

I say neither. Get the Nexus S. Of course the vibrant may bust out with 2.3 before we know it but I doubt it will be as good as on the Nexus. The only downside I see to the Nexus S is the lack of expandable memory.
I had both as well. Sold my iPhone 4 and kept my Vibrant. No more dropped calls...ever again.

I've been using many phones and have spent my majority of time with an iPhone a.k.a iOS.
But I can surely tell you this - looking at the upcoming devices and growth of Android in comparison to Apps and 3D Games. 2011 is owned by Android and Windows Phone 7. So decide wisely where you want to put your money.
Save your money for Samsung Galaxy S 2 or LG Star.

Keep the Vibrant, sell the iPhone 4. Do you know how much an iPhone 4 is worth off contract? Anywhere from $600-$800.
I just came from an iPhone 4 to a Vibrant. Difference for me was i'm on T-Mobile so i chose the Vibrant to get 3G speeds.
Although android is starting to grow on me, and i really like some of the features of the Vibrant, the iPhone 4 is just a flat out superior phone in terms of speed, quality, and apps. There's really no arguement about any of that.

I resent that statement Flash some of the custom ROMs with a good kernel and then I can assure that Vibrant is way faster than iPhone 4. Android comes with features which a daily cell users needs, i4 unless we jailbreak and again spend $$$ we have access to less than 50% of apps which are freely available on the Android Market.
Don't want to start a i4 vs Android debate here, but just my personal take on the two.
Vibrant. The galaxy s line is amazing. I own a captivate and im soooooo happy. I hate apple and everything it makes. It just sucks. Plus you cant oc or uv the iphone. Your choice but i would say vibrant

Hello guys,
I am comparing the Vibrant, G2, MT4G and N1, even considering the HD2.
Is there still a good reason to consider the Vibrant? Seeing as how Samsung is really dropping the ball / support. Any other advice / support is appreciated.
Note: This will be my first Android phone, I will be coming from an iPhone 3GS.
I'd get Nexus S or even better, wait for Vibrant 4g.
Vibrant running a rom is a great phone. Stock not so much. I would probably just wait for the new 4g galaxy in a month or two and grab that.
Stock, the phone isn't very good. It's slow. It's laggy. The battery life is pretty poor. I'd rate a stock Vibrant (Eclair) 6 out of 10.
Rooted and flashed with a good ROM, it's quite good. I'd say it's 8 out of 10. There are a number of flaws... such as the GPS being wonky, the phone not having any notification LEDs and the haptic feedback being very weak compared to comparable devices.
Regardless of software issues, the hardware is good, even if the build quality is low. The S-AMOLED display is gorgeous (if a bit oversaturated). The audio quality (for media playback, not call quality) is the best I've heard on a phone.
I wouldn't buy it on contract, though. I bought my Vibrant second-hand for about $300, and I consider it a great deal, even now after all the Samsung software shenanigans.
It depends on what you are wanting (FFC, other features...)... where you live (4g?)... and how the phone feels.... do you want the stock feel (N1) or the features touch wiz brings.
Personally, the Vibrant is perfect for ME. Obviously there is going to be someone who prefers another phone on your list (good group).. I have the Nexus also.
Say what you will, but TouchWiz has a LOT of features i would miss.
I will say this, for hardware, not bricking, the BEST screen, and great developers the Vibrant wins.
The Vibrant 4G seems to be launching in Feb, but will probably be out of my price range...

I live in LA, so 4G should be available...
I'm still new to Android... TouchWiz, a quick google shows it is the Samsung's splash screen / desktop. And a "rom" seems to be a custom firmware, is this correct?
Androids seem so much more complicated than an iPhone.
Anyone know the spects on the vibrant 4g?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Android is open source. Because of this, manufacturers can take it and "make it their own"
Touchwiz is amazing and absolutely my preferred "skin" *though I prefer stock android, ala Nexus one*
Look in my signature, read those stickies... should answer a lot of questions AND show what the Vibrant can do.
Regardless what phone you choose, I bet you end up (1) rooting it and (2) flashing a custom rom.
The Vibrant is incredibly hard to brick... will benefit from the Nexus S and Vibrant 4G (source code released) and has great developers.. plus it is just sexy. Your call.
Unless you absolutely need fast updates (Nexus S), and need a phone now, yeah, get the vibrant. Great hardware, very slick, great devs, but maybe a few trolls in the community. Great phone none the less.
Dont let the whine threads fool you this phone is fantastic.
You need to ask yourself a few questions when looking at what phone you want.
How important is a forward facing camera?
What screen size would you prefer?
How does the phone feel to you?
Whats the storage like?
The vibrant has a great cpu and gpu. a beautiful screen and 16 gig internal storage with an sdcard slot that supports a 32gb micro sd card.
Its mad light which can throw you off but you get use to it. You can probably get a great deal if 4g isnt all that important. I got mine for about 315 here in los angeles.
Ive seen them for a lot lower on cl also.
The phone might be decent but the company behind it ruins it.

Yes, it just depends on how much you are paying for it.
With the Vibrant 4G ready to drop next month, I wouldn't pay more than $200-300 for a plain Vibrant.
I'm actually waiting till then to buy one for my wife.
Short answer: no.
Long answer: there are way better phones than the vibrant coming out soon. Samsung also blows, and for those of you telling him yes... what happened to #neveragain?

This is what I might do, since I'm willing to spend $200 for the Vibrant... Or maybe I'll go for the G2 at $350ish.
I like the G2 since it's "future proof" with 4G and has a qwerty keyboard. It also has much better name to back it and has a stronger community behind it.
I would wait. I love my Vibrant, but the GPS is still spotty and there's no guarantee you'll get one that works. Dual core phones (as well as the Vibrant 4G) are right around the corner and right now the Nexus S is a better choice. I'm guessing the Vibrant 4G will be $200 on contract when it comes out.

Buying one of the phones you listed above right now would be foolish. I only say that because we are litterly on the cusp of new Dual core phones to hit the market soon.
As a Vibrant owner, I would say stay away, even from the Vibrant 4G. If you must upgrade now, I would get the Nexus S, even though it doesn't have hspa+ (4G).
It just depends, if your a hacker, get an hd2, as you can put many roms on it, Gingerbread, Froyo, Windows phone 7, but it's not as sexy as the Vibrant's display, and maybe not as fast, I think everything else is pretty ugly lol. I would get a Vibrant 4g though, if you really want a Galaxy S model.
I'm trading my Vibrant for a hd2, and $200, that's probably the only reason I'm bragging about it.

like the title, i have someone who willing to swap his SGS2 with my iphone4. i lke the SGS2 but i am not sure wether it is worth the swap. if u guys be me, would u do it? i use my device mainly for text, internet and organizer. not really into game. i like the big screen of SGS2 which can make web browsing more enjoyable.
thanks for your opinion. =)
1) You are on XDA Developers, who believe in openness and the freedom to customize your device as you please.
2) You ask whether you will regret the swap from iOS to Android here, especially about a phone that is on demand by most and is Android.
I don't think there is a proper way to answer it, its like asking the Mac forums whether you would regret the switch to Windows.
I would suggest playing with an Android device to see whether you like it. I am switching from an iOS device to the SGS II as well and I dont think I will regret it. Especially now that Android Market place has almost the same apps and this device is a Dual Core 1GB Ram beast.
exactly, you are on the sgs2 section of xda forum....
it really is a personal thing, my suggestion is make the change and have a taste of android OS, if you don't like it, wait for the iphone 5~
A plain swap? Hell yes. Even if you don't like it just sell it for like $750-$800 (convert it to your local currency just in case) when the iPhone 4 is just around $450-$500. You will make more money even if you don't like the phone.
I would love to find someone here in Toronto who is willing to just swap their SGS2 with my iPhone 4...it's going to suck having to cough up an extra $150-200
I personally wouldnt regret the swap of an iphone for a Nokia 2110. So swapping an iphone for an SGS2, youll b fine!
I'm doing the same thing, and I doubt I'll have any regrets whatsoever. I'm gaining money and I'm switching to a better, newer phone.
As above, go for it
Seriously, this phone is likely to be the first true iPhone killer, where it performs better than your iThing... Take a look at video reviews to get a flavour of it Some phrases that sprung to mind included "smoothest android phone yet" etc...
And if you really don't like it, you should be able to resell it at a better price, or indeed find someone who would trade the SGS II for an iP4 again...

lol i love that phrase....'iphone killer'... using that phrase is like saying the iphone is the number one phone and all the other phones being made are clawing at its feet, waiting for it to drop a crumb of food!

Neither will I, but I am just conveying what some of the fanbois are saying =D
Engadget are some of the biggest fanbois and they loved it.
One thing I have noticed is, the text display rendering, especially in browser is better on iPhone. The columns resize to readable fonts on double tapping in iOS. Android browser doesn't have such 'sophisticated' column resize etc.

I prefer Android because ios is at the simplicity level for a 5 year old.
Its like a video game... Iphone is easy mode and android is hardcore mode
Iphone is easy to master fun to jump into and android you read forums and you gotta learn it. But when you master android you become a superuser and can honestly keep that new phone feel daily. My nexus felt new for a year and a half. My 3gs felt new for 3 months... My atrix feels like I'm in the future.

The only thing I liked about iphone is that it got me to get into jail breaking.. Once that happened it was android destiny.

Honestly I like the iphone- its aesthetically appealing in design and media, but the Atrix is a powerhouse in comparison. Comparable in graphics, the Atrix gives you more screen without being overly big like some other android phones such as the infuse.
It all comes down to the user. Are you a mac or pc guy? Its really that simple. If you're a pc guy, you wont regret the Atrix. I love it.

I have both phones...I got the iPhone 4 and the Atrix on both of their respective release dates. Let's break it down:
Obviously, both iOS and Android have their proven advantages. Jailbroken iOS vs. rooted Atrix...it's a close call. One of the things I really love about iOS is the universality- in respects of apps and common accessories. It's always really convenient knowing where ever you go, someone is going to have an iPhone/iPod charger. And, one of the things I really love about Android is the open source feel and really just the amount of customization possible. Even with a jailbroken iPhone, Android is just simply more customizable. Software is a near tie, but I've got to give it to iOS because it really is just easier to do simple tasks quickly.
Hardware wise, both devices are pretty impressive. Since Apple is realeasing 1 device a year and Motorola is releasing approximately ~10, the build quality is going to be better on an iPhone. Really think about it- all the Android manufacturers are just getting as many phones as they can get out possible. The only device I feel is just completely solid all around, in every aspect, is the Nexus One/Nexus S, but obviously that's because Google itself has every say in every detail of the device. That being said, the build quality on the Atrix is still really good. If it didn't have such a horrible back/battery cover, it would be pretty even with the solid feeling you get when holding an iPhone. It'd also be nice to have some aluminum on the Atrix to make it feel a little more sturdy, and a better placement of the lock button would be nice since you can't unlock the device laying flat. But, the Atrix has 2 hardware advantages- screen size and overall reception. I consistently drop less calls and get better reception indoors with my Atrix than my iPhone. No surprise really, but it's the truth. And playing the games that are available on the Atrix are simply more entertaining because of the larger screen. I've got to give the hardware award to the iPhone too, but this is also a close call.
Of course, this is all my opinion, and even though I rotate which device I use almost daily, I do tend to pick my iPhone more often than not. I think both iOS and Android are amazing OS's, and Android really is a fun platform that's more capable out of the box, but the one and only thing that truly keeps me from using my Atrix as much as my iPhone 4 is the lack of apps. I'm a student, which means I use lots of apps/games on a daily basis, and the inability to have the same app as someone around while using my Atrix really is what keeps me from using it more. Aside from customization apps/Swype, I haven't once seen an app on Android that I wished iOS had. Any great app Android has is available on iOS (aside from the stock applications). But really, accounting for all of these things, it's what feels right for you. When people ask me which platform to get since I do have both, I say for 90% of people, iPhone's are the obvious choice, because most people that ask me that question obviously aren't tech savvy. But, that 10% does exist for tech savvy and power users. Asking myself and yourself that question is obviously much more difficult because we are both tech savvy and power users, otherwise you wouldn't be on XDA. There isn't a clear choice, but for me, if I had 1 choice I'd choose my iPhone and I wouldn't hesitate. Ask yourself that question, which one could you not live without? There's your answer.
I use my iphone 4 more often because I love the retina display and the games are way better. Android is slowly dieing, too many phones are using android os and its killing itself from the market I'm very lucky I traded my atrix for an ipad 64gb and 200 bucks so no more android for me. I hardly think Android is dying (or dieing as you called it). It is growing faster than anticipated and predicted.
Nothing wrong with an Apple product and I own and love my Macbook. I played with the iPhone and never wanted one.
My reply to the OP is if you want a phone that does most everything that an iPhone does and yet be able to make phone calls and not drop connection, then for sure go with the Atrix.

I agree but My iphone gets the same reception as the Atrix. Seems like a few Android apps do need a little more brushing up(facebook, scorecenter for example).
Iphone apps? LoL don't make me laugh.. You don't have emulators... Flash..
Do they even have the new maps? I think the best iphone apps I had were google apps... **** if you liked tinkering with iphone it was a clear step to android.

Hey guys who's selling their GSII to get a Galaxy Nexus? I am, I have always wanted a pure Google experience (though TW 4.0 is pretty good) and the screen is really what is the selling point. Having come from an iPhone 4 to a GSII, I found the screen to be insanely bright and beautiful, but the text sharpness just wasn't the same! The Galaxy Nexus will surely eliminate that problem with the Super Amoled HD screen! In addition, I love the plethora of new features that were included in ICS and I am so looking forward to them. Just my 2 cents.
Not that much of a upgrade, waiting to see what will work on the S2..sounds like the 9100 has a NFC chip..so I'm praying Beam works..lol
notification LED = me switching
I want to see how well it works first though

Beam looks pretty sweet! ... Anyways I can't believe people are complaining about the new UI, I might be the only one who actually likes it. The electric blue is appealing to me and will look sharp on an AMOLED screen. Love the redesigned apps as well

Indeed, apart from Beam(which i giggled over for some reason) most of the other stuff was just improvements on an already great platform. I love the better integration with fb/twitter/etc with everything.
I care about the performance. Honeycomb ran like poop, and the webcast made no mention of performance so that has me worried.
No brainer for me. 720P, NFC, ICS..
It was nice knowing you GS2
I'm thinking of doing the same. I'm just waiting for it to get European bands (same as AT&T bands) and an unlock price.
Guys just to let you know, ICS does indeed have Hardware Acceleration - it was mentioned in the brand new SDK. This excites me

I thought Beam was a great idea, far better use for NFC than advertising. The screen looks great but there just isnt enough to persuade me to change. Perhaps when I see the screen in my hands ?
Barometer = Why
There is no nexus prime. only galaxy nexus
Won't the SGS2 get ICS? :|
its not ditching. I'm adding in into my other pocket! woohoo! SGS2 + Galaxy Nexus = Win forever!
am i the only one slightly underwhelmed? the screen is the only standout and I think its too big. ICS is going to get ported within weeks thx to xda. Everything else on the nexus is just equal or less when compared to the sgs2.

I think I'm with you on this one. I just can't choose between the two. Am I just being greedy? On the Galaxy Nexus I love the new screen resolution and that data usage tool. Will come in handy with all the tiered data we got going around on AT&T now.

Is it confirmed that it has bands for AT&T?

I heard its Penta band. It will work with T-Mobile or att. Thus should be a very nice feature.

5mp camera is a downgrade for me. Truthfully I don't want to pay the extra buck for a 720p screen that I can't get the full experience out of. I'd rather wait till it is the standard and then not have to pay royalties for it.
$1 gets you a reply
Hell yea!

Not over another year, even if it is Galaxy, it is not made for Samsung itself. So, Samsung always ditches worst phone for Google, perfectise on its own products.
Is this the phone you have been waiting for?? I think I have but I'm not sure. Is it that much better than the Captivate and Infuse? Best AT&T phone at the present?? I'm currently using an Iphone 3gs that I borrowed cause I cracked my Tilt....
I've owned the Cappy and Infuse along with every iPhone except the 4S. GSII is easily the best phone on AT&T's network imho.

s2
I've also had the iPhone four and every iPhone before but can tell you without any hesitation the galaxy is the best phone I've ever owned. Great telephone calls, easy navigation, great apps and most of all great support from forums like XGA. Don't hesitate a minute!
I had the first android phone on AT&T (Backflip), and then the first *real* android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) it lasted me 15 months and was great. I upgraded to this phone a week ago and I can vouch that it's the best phone I've ever had! Extremely quick, superb optimization, ui, screen, camera, and nice battery life.
The GS2 is the best phone I have ever used and I would love for someone to show me a phone that is faster with a smoother UI and a sexier body. It doesnt exist. This is the phone of all phones in every category (except screen resolution ) and ill keep it until most likely the GS3
Hardware wise it's a real solid device. It has a nice set of cherry-picked pieces that are some of the best Samsung can offer, but the real value in this specific device is how similar it is to the i9100. This means we'll get a load of developer support and faster unofficial updates. Take a look at the Captivate vs the Infuse for an example. The Captivate had all kinds of development with a wide range of compatibility that pushed the capabilities of the device far beyond anything stock firmware or even your average 1 or 2 ROMs would have allowed.
Personally, S2 is like the ONLY phone from ATT that's worth owning since Nokia E71x. Cappy was like a down-syndrome brother to sammy line-up and Infuse's lack of developments and mods made me want to throw it against a wall.
the GS2 is a great phone ... until something better comes out. Seriously, this phone IS good but its just like any other phone when it first comes out. Its a nice upgrade until something better is released.
Any more reviews from preivous Iphone users?
I have had the Motorola attic,LG thrill, iPhone 3g,3gs,4 and 4s. My gs2 is not rooted and on a stock rom and it is the best device for me. That's all that matters. Go to att and spend atleast 20 minutes with each phone you are considering. Find the phone that feels right for you. I have fat fingers so the bigger screen, light weight and community support is nice. The LG thrill has that 3d wow factor nut honestly 6 hours of battery life and froyo was awful. IPhone is nice and heavy and glass which can equal disaster if dropped. Just remember you need to jailbreak the ios to do what android can do out of the box.

I have owned the iPhone 3g, 3gs, and 4 as well as the Motorola Atrix. It is hard to compare the iPhone to Android, yes they both are smartphone OS's but are so different with how they work. I still do love my iPhone 4 at times do to its simplicity and UI( as well as vast amount of accessories ), but android is so much more tweakable and you can truly customize it to your liking. With all that being said, i really do love this phone. It is a beauty very fast and all around beast. When ICS comes out i really do not see how anyone can pick an iPhone over this.

I still don't understand "simplicity" thing with iStuff. Non-standard usb cables are simple? Inability to just drag and drop content on/off PC is simple? Cluttered home screens are, simple?

I had my captivate for over a year and actually hated it. I love android by the cappy was just a terrible piece is hardware and was nearly unusable until I discovered xda. Even after flashing to different roms it wasn't as smooth as I liked. I was hestitant to buy a samsung phone again but I am sure glad I have them another chance. The SGSII is the perfect phone to run android. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

How's the cell reception? Too many times my son's iP4 has at least some reception and my Captivate has none. I've tried different modems to no avail.

ATT butchered the hell out of S to make Cappy, I'm kinda not surprised there...
I really enjoy the GS2. It's is far superior to the Captivate I had before and even more so over the Tilt2 I had before that.
