Wifi problem - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
Quick question; when I connect to my wifi at home it connects quickly but I can't access web pages, market etc. I have to restart my phone before I'm able to. It never use to do this and I haven't changed anything. Any thoughts?

Wifi problems

Hey guys, so I've had this problem for a long time now and it's starting to really annoy me. If I turn on my wifi and not use it, the wifi will still be "connected" but nothing will load. So the main problem is that my wifi won't work after 5 min of leaving it on, I could just turn my wifi off then back on but I've been doing this for some time now and was wondering if there was a solution for this. Please help!
What rom are you using?
i'm using the stock rom
v2.1 of android or v1.5?
Are you using a widget to turn off the WiFi?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
i'm on 2.1 and i'm using the stock widget to turn it on and off
Is this just at home or everywhere you connect to WiFi?
it happens everywhere i use my wifi.
Contact HTC. Seems odd.
Have you tried going in to the settings & disable / enable WiFi, it might just be a problem with your widget

Browse while same time on phone?

Hi all,
Back then before I had SGS2, (HTC Desire Hd) I used to be on the phone and same time web browsing, but with this phone (SGS2) its does not have the same setting, can any one tell me if I can download some sort of app to get rid of this problem. Please help.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Can you not just click in home button whilst in a call to take you to the home screens?

I think if you are on wifi it still might be possible to surf on the net while you talk by pressing the home button and using the browser. As for data connection....I think it gets disconnected when you make or receive a phone call or send/receive an sms.
You should be able to browse while on the phone, as it uses GSM and not CDMA
I have done it before when been asked to find something while on the phone.
A 3g connection should stay connected because that is on its own frequency, gprs or edge can't be active at the same time as gsm
No one is responding directly to his question, only speculating.
I just confirmed that its not possible on my GS2 either and its kinds disappointing after having out on my HTC Hero before. It turns off mobile data while on a call.
Bad job Samsung!

Are you connected to 3G or EDGE?

On my stock UK 3 mobile rom I can use the internet and be in a call but when I changed to a generic kwe2 rom I couldn't do it. Generally on 3G or HSDPA you can surf but edge and gprs not.
On 3 in Sweden. Works fine with calling and data simultaneously. Just pressed home button and loaded market and downloaded shazam.

[Q] ssh droid

hello,
i have been visiting this site for a while now and it has been extremely useful.
i have recently registered because i got a lot of help from here and because im having a trouble which couldn't find the answer to anywhere.
i have a cf-rooted galaxy s2 i9100 firmware xwkk5, i came across with an amazingly comfortable app called ssh droid which allows me to extract or transfer files from or to my phone through wifi, unlike blue tooth its faster and easier.
i have managed to get the app working except for one gruesome side affect: soon after using the app i could no longer use internet connection on my phone through wifi, the only way to fix this was through disabling 3g and wifi and reconnect to wifi, only that a few moments later the problem would surface again and i couldnt use the internet even though it would appear like im connected to wifi and all is good.
the app has not affected 3g surfing only wifi surfing.
i had to wipe and flash to stock rom twice in order to fix this issue since even deleting the app proved to be useless, so frankly even though i would like to use this app very much it also looks a bit risky.
has anyone heard of this problem before?
any help would be appreciated.
I use quickSSHd, it's a payed app but I haven't had any problems with it.

*REQUEST* Wifi auto switching app

Since I started making and receiving calls and texts via wifi I thought about how nice it would be to actually carry the tab with me in my laptop bag and have it automatically connect to open wifi spots without user interaction. Is this possible.
If I can get a notification of an open network, someone should be able to add code to or from to auto connect and disconnect without storing a thousand networks addresses... PigBak app... or something...
Sorry if this has been discussed couldn't find anything on site wide search..

after a little more searching I found an app that functions the way I'd like it to... Wefi pro seems to do what I need for seamless calls.

Tethering

Can anyone help me or point me to the right direction... for tethering thanks in advance.

Please state what ROM your are on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
If your phone doesn't already include the option to tether in your settings, download the app from the link above. Once downloaded you're pretty much good to go from there... Sorry for not elaborating more, but I'm typing this on my phone... When I get to a PC in the morning I'll type up something more formal/informal.
Quick question for reference, what rom are you using?
My vibrant has a euphoria.. I thought T-Mobile block tethering...

They blocked tethering through user agent sniffing . Chrome seems to be the only user agent being blocked at the moment . If you use internet explore it will work or you could use "user agent switcher" extension for chrome .

Really? Because I just typed up this post on my PC in Google Chrome (without the "user agent switcher" extension) and I am currently tethered to my Vibrant. I've also tested Internet Explorer, which also works while tethered to my Vibrant... I'm using the app I mentioned above, although the built in wireless tether feature also works for me. Then again, I am using a custom rom, so that could explain why it works for me. Anywho... landrian18, you want to know how to get tether on your device? OK, I'll show you how to do it both on an ICS rom and with the "WiFi Tether for Root Users" app.
On an ICS rom:
Note- I'm not positive this is the same method you would use on euphoria as I'm on a different ICS rom, however, you can still try and see. It should be the same.
1. Go into your phones system settings, this can be accomplished by either locating the settings icon in your app drawer/home screen or by clicking the leftmost physical touch button on your phone.
2. Under WIRELESS & NETWORKS click More....
3. Click Tethering & portable hotspot.
4. Click on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
Note 2- Your phone is now acting like a Wi-Fi hotspot and is accessible/detectable by almost all wireless devices except other Android smart phones. If you would like to encrypt your Wi-Fi hotspot click Configure Wi-Fi hotspot and change the password. You can also rename the Wi-Fi hotspot by changing the SSID from AndroidAP (or whatever the default is) to whatever you'd like.
On the app:
Note- These steps are written under the assumption that you have already installed the "WiFi Tether for Root Users" application.
1. Locate and launch the WiFi Tether for Root Users application.
2. Done. That's all you got to do.
Note 2- If you want to customize the SSID, password (remove password), encryption type, etc. Simply go into the apps settings.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE, FEEL FREE TO ASK.
I'm on a custom ROM I've been tethering forever but now I get redirected to TMobiles tethering advertisement page . Others have recently complained about this on XDA . It only works of I use user agent switcher .

That's rather intriguing. Especially since the thread you linked me to originated in 2010. I've never had this issue, although I do use Google Chrome. Hmmm... Very interesting indeed. So you get a window from T-Mobile if you tether using Google Chrome and without the switcher extension?

Yes sir . I'm at work right now when I get home I'll post the page I get redirected to without User Agent Switch . I have two Vibrant and both get redirected . Mine is on Chimera and the other is on Euphoria .
I have ics and I use the interface no app needed. Though when I used the together for root I get errors . Strange because when I had gingerbread I used the root tether app with no problems

on rooted updated stock Gingerbread t959
1.
does the phone charge, tether and receive incoming calls while pluged in usb, during wifi or usb tethering? (I used to tether an evdo device and an incoming call would drop the internet)
2.
supposedly easytether will screw with any future attempts to flash your phone and best avoided, whats the best fully featured free alternative to pdanet for a rooted vibrant to usb tether? + can you confirm wifi tether for root works on device?
3.
If I use firefox on my laptop and get redirected to a tmobile subscription page all I have to do is install this addon on my laptop. even if I get re-directed before installing the addon, installing the addon will solve the issue?
thanks, I did a couple searches and didn't find answers.

Just a quick question, are you sure you have the vibrant, and not the galaxy s 4g? There is no stock gingerbread on the vibrant...
Side note, I've used easy tether (great alternative to pda net) along with firefox for a few years and have never seen the t mobile warning. Used it on stock and rooted g1 and vibrant with never any issues.
Does an incoming call drop your usb internet connection and does it charge while connected?
Unless I'm wrong the sgh-t959v is a vibrant as observed from the label. I updated via kies to gingerbread rom from mfg that why I called it stock, not a custom rom.
T959v isn't the same as our t959 Vibrants.
Ours didn't have a GB update via Kies. Be careful even using Kies.
-I'm not sure there is much in our Vibrant thread that applies to t959v at all. Is the t959v the Samsung Blaze 4g? I must research this when I have time.
note: don't modify your phone with anything you see here at all until someone with more knowledge chimes in. I think its a bad idea.
T959v is the galaxy s 4g! T959 is the vibrant. The vibrant never got the gingerbread update, galaxy s 4g did.
Easy tether does charge while in use, phone calls I don't know, never tried.
