[Q] Not a lot of overseas time zone for x10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, I've searched this topic via Google, but no results were found. Here is a little problem. I am on my vacation back home right now, I tried to find the the time for Vietnam (either Saigon time zone or Ho Chi Minh), but it was not on the list.
I would like to know, is there or are there any ways that I could download the time zone pack(age) for this particular time zone for the phone?
Secondly, I don't now if topic has been brought up, but please feel free to move the message as it fits.
Thanks once again guys!!

This is a must bump

Change languaje of HTC Hermes/SoftBank X01HT

I want to know is there is a possibility to Flash the HTC Hermes of Softbank:
http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/product/3g/x01ht/index.html
And change JAPANESE the ROM to English (or Spanish) one.
Thanks!

Beware the X01HT from SoftBAnk uses Bootloader 1.06. Basically that means that flashing it is impossible unless a fix for the bootloader issue is found. I just found out that I am stuck with Japanese now too

I had plans to go this afternoon to buy one What is this problem? I was looking in the forum but I couldn't find anything about it
The problem is that with Bootloader 1.04 the update software did not check the vendor ID of the Hermes. That meant that you could update a e.g. Cingular model with a T1 ROM or use a ROM with a different language.
Hermes that have Bootloader 1.06 (like the SoftBank X01HT) nocw ckeck that ID and won't let you update with a ROM from a different vendor....
Before you buy it, you can check mine if you are in Tokyo....
Yes, I'm living in Tokyo
So, is not possible to flash it Is there any post that speak about if they're researching to fix this issue?
Anyway, I don't speak many NIHONGO. Do you know any way to make it work in English (or almost English) ??
Other thing. I read in the Web that this model can't handle MMS. I imagine that it's because they didn't put a MMS program there. Could you make MMS work in your model?
Thanks for all!
Sesaru
Sorry for my late response here - I'd say currently there is no (easy) way to use a different ROM of the SoftBank model. I wil require somebody to come up with a solution for that, but that may take time. I'll go to the SoftBank store on the weekend to see if they plan to come up with an English model.
Right now, the unit will work in Japanese and Japanese only, no way you can get it to work in English as far as I can say at the moment.
MMS also does not work, so you are restricted to SMS. I am myself contemplating taking it back (I made an arrangement with the SoftBank people last Saturday to try how far I can get...) and get me a unit form Singapore.
So, if you are not comfortable with the restrictions, I'd rather advise to wait with the purchase. Let's see how DoCoMo will handle this...
Some more points:
You cannot use it currently as a wireless modem for your laptop (that's disabled)
There is no MSN chat on the unit (disabled too)
Outlook is fully restricted to SMS, I could not get pop or imap access to any other mail account to work.
I had the opportunity right now to compare a frirends DOPOD variation - he bought in Singapore. e uses it while visiting here utilizing his Singapore SIM roaming. On his, all functions work, including wireless modem, etc.
In my opinion, SoftBank did a great job in crippling the X01HT to the extent that it is less functional than an odinary Japanese 3G phone. My best advise is to buy a unlocked in Singapore or Taiwan. Alternatives on the Japanese market are the Wilcom units (but agreed, they are big and ugly compared to the sleek X01HT)
Hope that helps...

Sad to know that SoftBank are following Vodafones footsteps when it comes to crippling firmware!

That's impossible. Softbank is removing all the staff for gaijins that Vodafone put here. For example, now WAP (Yahoo! Keitai) don't have any in English (I used the "last train" opcion a lot in the past).

You can still get that - on you phone, start the browser, the second left icon on the top and you are back on the old page where you can find the 'English' link at the botoom. But I agree, SoftBank is a huge step away from opening Japan to the West....
I probably have the chance to travel to Singapore within the next 3 weeks and will check the price there. I got friends in Singapore as well as in Taiwan and China who could ship the unit to me...
Hi!
this is the UK Expansys url. There are other deals with different accessories etc.

Outch, this is expensive, considering that I got mine here as an update deal for my old mobile for something around $150-US... so I should not worry about the restrictions too much... ;-) I now managed to get Gmail up and running in mobile Outlook, so the SoftBank model becomes more and more practical.
What I still do not understand is why they disabled using it as a modem - that is really the single biggest drawback for me. The modem applet is simply not there and without it, dialup from my laptop via Blootooth does not work. It works fine with the same SIM in a Vodafone 3G phone, so I conclude it must e the missing modem app...
BTW, as an anectode - I recall the street price I saw in Taipei 3 weeks ago must have been somewhere near US-$ 400.--
Thanks for the link though!

About Singapure, let me know the prices ... maybe I'll tell you buy one for me But the one in Softbank is quite cheap ...
More questions, gomen. Do you speak japanese? because using the model en japanese with my very limitated level of nihongo ... and did you try to install the new palm MMS application? It's here:

Maybe you can get MMS with this
Bye!
My Japanese is also very limited but I have bi-linguals around me who can help me sometimes... Thanks for the link, I'll explore....

I also have bilinguals that can help me, but I'm scary about bying a "kihongo dake keitai" ... I can speak little, but Kanjis really less. I thought in install as much applications as possible in English to use it, but anyway I'm not sure ...
Anyway, please try MMS program, because MMS in quite important for me
Sesaru
I'll install MMS tonight and let you know...
I've tried the app and it looks great - however, when I try to send MMS it freezes and, well, that seems to be it then. There seems to be a real hard limitation why SoftBank cannot send MMS...

Big Thanks to HTC Brazil!!!!!

Guys, just want to register here my appreciation for the Tech Support of HTC Brazil. Recently I bricked my HTC Touch Dual and could not get it unbricked by ay chance. The phone was SID Locked and there is no official Portuguese (BRAZILIAN) ROM around.
Anyways, I called HTC and told them what Happened. They asked me to send my phone to them, I did. It was not on warranty because I lost the phone´s invoice. Anyways, 3 days later the phone is back in my hands, with WM 6.1 installed and running. And the best part of it. FREE OF CHARGE.
Also the HTC Tech Support was very nice and efficient.
Just wanted to register that and say that I was already a BIG FAN of HTC. Now I am even more.
Thanks HTC Brazil!!!!
see ~ u got a good luck ~

change imei ?

hello,
it is possible to change imei of my htc hero?
for the reason that I can use in Turkey!
it blocks the IMEI htc hero.
*I would put the imei of my nokia n95 that works in Turkey ..
Thank you
Normally one would say that the only reason someone would want to change an IMEI was if the phone was stolen. Turkey is a special case though because of the really STUPID LAW about foreign bought phones that exists there.
IMEIs can't usually be changed because that would be the one way to change the identity os a stolen handset.
stupid you said...
I just learned that it is possible to have a network ...
the only thing to do is to have a Turkish passport, registered the imei for the phone ...
So if not for me: (
I can use my htc hero with a Turkish operator: (
really boring like operation, but it's true that it is a good system that Europe should use...
3 months without his hero htc annoys me.

I thought it could also be done with other passports and not only a Turkish passport. if you come in turkey you get a stamp on your passport, on that stamp there is a date. with that date you can unblock youre IMEI number. there is no other way to do that.
But why are they blocking foriegn IMEIs in the first place?

Not only blocking "foreign" phones but blocking any phone having an IMEI that is not registered by any distributors/importers. This is because too many people started doing it as a job, buying cheap phones, bringing them to Turkey illegally and selling them without paying any tax, vat, etc. What the telecommunication authorities doing is right. What is wrong is that they let you register one phone every 2 years.
However, I recently learned that, if you registered a phone somehow and bought another phone in the meanwhile, you can just "unregister" the old one and register the new one. This works for me.
On the other hand, I am not sure if it would work with a foreign passport but either it does or not, you will have to have your "bill" (any official paper stating that this phone belongs to you). Otherwise you don't have a chance even if you have a Turkish passport.
Also,
Should you go to Turkey for a vacation or something, your phone would not be blocked for the 1st month. This is for tourism reasons. Otherwise any foreigner visiting Turkey would have this problem. I think it is a month per year. So, if you go to Turkey again next year, you should again have 1 month, if I am not wrong. But I am 100% sure about the first entrance with a new phone. You can, no doubt, use it for the 1st month.

I'm not sure if I get this right but this implies that a tourist's phone would be blocked after 1 month. Which is not the case as far as I know. Yes it will be blocked but only to Turkish operators. A visitor would still be able to roam with his/her phone after one month.

I registered my Hero just this morning. This might help you.
You don't have to have a Turkish passport. You need your passport (from any country) stamped by a customs officer WITHIN last 30 days. Then you can go to an operator and ask them to register your phone for you.
If you are not a Turkish citizen you will need to bring your residence permit as well otherwise your phone will be registered but it will work only with your number. (Though they won't ask for a permit.. You should tell this yourself otherwise they will go ahead and register the phone to your mobile number)
Hope this helps..

Well, I have a locked phone because I visited Turkey for 2 days, 2 months ago. Now I cannot use it there anymore and because I registered another phone last year, I cannot register this one. I did not try with my foreign SIM as I am not a fan of roaming because of the prices.

Grey banding caused by temperature change/Mystery country of origin

Hello all,
So after much testing, I have determined that when the temperature is less than about 45 degrees Fahrenheit, grey horizontal lines appear on my screen. As it gets colder, they increase in number and contrast. When the temperature rises, they fade over time and eventually disappear. I have rebooted, and reflashed different roms, and have not dropped it on the ground or in water.
Yes, I know its weird, and I suppose that my only course of action is to get the screen replaced. The Chinese Samsung Repair Center will not honor my manufacturer's warranty (want me to pay $$) because the phone is not a Chinese GSII Here is where my question(s) comes in:
I bought my phone in the famous Beijing Dinghao Electronics market in July, and it is what used to be known as the european model (meaning no dvb antenna) and quad band GSM. This model however, if i'm not mistaken, was also used in south america (chile etc). And I'm not sure if mine is from UK, or Chile, or another south American country.
Is there a way to know for sure exactly what country my phone is from?
If i can figure that out, most likely I can send it there for a repair, as it is still under manufacturers warranty.
All the CSC etc are different because ive been flashing, but here's what it says on the back of my phone.
Code:
TELEFONO CELULAR/CELLULARPHONE
MODELO:GT-I9100
SSN:-I9100GSMH
FCC ID:A3LGTI9100
ALIMENTACION:3,7v;1000mA
HECHO EN CHINA/MADE IN CHINA
That's it. It really seems like some latin country, but there may be something I don't know.
Does anyone know where, ultimately I should send this phone to to get it the manufacturer's warranty honored?
And yes, this is a real Galaxy SII.
Thank you.
Product Code says where .

[Q] g3 ls990 gsm sim unlock?

Hello all. At first sorry if such topic is already opened and I opened it again, but I'm on a hurry, because I live in Georgia country in Europe near Russia, so here we use GSM sim card. So several ours ago I bought LS990 on EBAY, so I want to know if it is possible to use GSM operator. If not I'll ask the seller if he can refund me. Or it's better to take and in several weeks there will be a solution for that?
Sorry for my English and thanks in advance.
