the new update is not getting installed in my mini. is anybody facing same error?
I had to search for it in the market, and install it manually (didn't automatically show as an update) but it seems to be working.

Downloaded perfectly for me mate, and yes its meant to have 3D maps, but its not showing on mine either..
in the video of gmaps 5.0 they use gestures with teo fingers to "switch" into 3D... but we lack multitouch...

noob question: do i have to first uninstall the maps that came with the phone?
or replace the stock market? because it's not even showing in the market

i have 2.1 on my mini pro and got the update.
unfortunately i havent been able to get the tilting nor the compass mode on the fone if anyone manage to get these to work, let us know.
It is still a great update though - vector / offline cache / 3d.
oh, and you don't need to uninstall the previous version to get the update to ggle maps 5.0

that's only for 2 fingered rotation. obviously minipro is not supported because stock MT is disabled. still shhould be able to use the compass mode right???

anyway it wont connect, i got connection error and i'm unable to use it
I downloaded it from the normal Android Market. Managed to sign in but it was a bit sluggish. The real problem was trying to exit the app. Apparently the Log Out option is in one of the tabs, My Info I think it was. Whenever I try to press that tab, I get a force close and the app restarts and logs me back in. Ended up having to kill it.
Don't know if I can call or text yet because I uninstalled straight away. Nimbuzz will do fine until they sort it out.
i could log-in via wlan,but skype crashed instantly when i tried to do anything (htc default rom)
Just installed and it's working fine....
Worked fine on OD 4.0.32. Really had no issues with it except the sneaky log out button.. im gonna try it on stock 2.2 and report back..

Just installed on Wildfire (via .apk). Screen and graphics looked great, but when clicking on My Info or trying something else, it keeps crashing. Lets hope, that Skype devs will make it work also for this very popular device
Same here. I can login, but clicking on any button crashes the app. Very sad, I was hoping to finally have Skype on my phone.
I wrote a mail to the support, they just answered that the Wilfire isn´t supported at the moment.
So at least there is probability, that it's only "at the moment" and in future, there will be release for small res. phones...

How are you able to chat? As soon as I try to, the app crashes. Are you using the app just released by Skype or a different version?

I downloaded and installed the beta skype apk from rapidshare.I cant make a call from wifi (skype credit only),but everything else works like a charm in my wildfire.I use the original 2.1 wildfire rom with no mods and stuff.
I have been wanting to play with the new vector Google Maps and 3D city renderings since I saw these things being demoed last month by Andy Rubin.
Now I can get these GMaps 5.0 features working on my NC (as well as my HTC Sapphire) as a result of the download from the post below. Yay!

I installed it, but there are no 3d buildings... I can do the 3d scrolling but where are the buildings? XD
Seems to work just fine... 3D buildings are showing up in San Francisco.
Two finger drag up/down works fine, but rotation does not work. Is this a limitation of the touch panel or some software fine tuning that still needs to be done?

Just keep zooming in until you see them.
How is this different from the 5.0.0.5014 download from the market?

The market version checks the hardware and disables the "advanced features" (read: vector-related and "tilt-3D" code) for any device not on the approved hardware list:

The OP is about a "modified" version of Maps which skips the hardware check.

Yes, the rotation functions are not working properly ... I had noticed that, too.
My not-so-educated guess is that this is a software issue. For instance, the kernel hackers in the Development section seem to think that there is no reason that only two touch points can be registered by NC hardware.
Anyway, personally, I am excited not to see the stupid tiles being loaded on every zoom. ... And the buildings are cool to show off on the huge 7" screen ... for the first 3 minutes, that is.

Uninstall your previous version of Maps or whatever version you have now. They conflict.

No, sorry but everything is ok : I fogot to install the Street View app from Market.
Now all is fine, Maps is very nice on the NC

Anybody ever figure out rotation? Using Dotty from the market, it's clear that the NC digitzer is plenty capable of distinguishing two points rotating past each axis (no Nexus One weirdness).

Yea side loaded the app but I wanted to see if others saw this too. It just seems strange.
Like I said in a post before this 2.3 is in limbo for a tablet OS, between froyo and honey-comb apps. cant see certain apps on both sides on the market to download.
I have been side loading some of the tablet apps from the zoom, icona and asus trans forums that you cant get on the market because the spread out in duel panes in landscape mode as some tablet apps should.

Like which ones? I was hoping to find the CNN or pulse apps that have been shown off on the xoom.
Blaw most apps detect that the flyer is not using honeycomb so they revert to froyo installed devices screen size, which does not use double pain landscape mode or "optimized for tablet screens" this sucks till honeycom comes out for the flyer.

I had exactly the same problem. I found a free app called "MyAppSharer" and emailed the apk to myself, and BAMM I'm texting from my Flyer. Installed a few other apps as well! Give it a shot, worked for me!

If you cant get them to work, a factory reset should do it or if u are rooted, wipe all and reinstall rom
If you're running a custom ROM, it's possible that there's info in 'build.prop' that the Market reads and could flag apps as incompatible. What are you running ?
FWIW, I didn't check Adobe Flash 11. When did that get released, a day ago ? Two days ago ? Haven't heard there's been an update.... I'll go out on a limb and say that one won't across too many sites that are "Flash 11 only" yet either !! I think you can hold off for a short bit to get that one sorted out !
As for the others, the Market says they're "compatible with all of your devices". I have TBolts and Eris linked to my account, so yes, they'll even run on my old Eris.

Not sure but on mine the Market auto updated Adobe Flash to 11 last night.

Adobe Flash only shows up in the Market if I look for it. It doesn't appear under My Apps. When I do find it, it has the "update" tag on it though. I don't know if it will eventually auto-update or not since it's a baked-in app. Maps does though...

Once you update it, it will be linked to the market then since you will no longer be using the /system/app version (you'll be using the /data/app version market installed). So from then on it will be listed in your market when an update is available. As far as making that "automatic", you'd have to check that box in the market for that app.
As someone said, it could be something in your build.prop such as your model name, lcd density, or fingerprint.

My apologies. I believe I did use the market to install Flash 10.3 and choosing to auto update. I am using Market version 3.1.6 btw
And I assume that Google pushes updates to their apps which is why Gmail and Maps constantly update without user interaction.

I was just talking to a guy about this. Did you by chance change your screen density? The stock density on the Tbolt is 240. Or if you are using a custom rom maybe the density has been changed?
You can use Root Explorer and go to system/build.prop. long press and chose to view it as a text file and check the density is 240.
Hi everyone,
Since I updated to the new Google Maps 7.0.2 I have noticed that my device's rendering of the maps is nowhere as sleek as advertised or indeed as good as it looks on other devices. I have yet to see the new Maps on a SGS3 so I don't know if this is a device specific issue or it is just my phone and some faulty configurations.
My problem (as you can see in the images attached) is that roads don't seem to render correctly. The map view shows them with rather thick borders and everything seems very chunky.
Has anyone else had the same issue? Could you please check this in your own Maps and see if there is a problem? The screen shots are from the latest update and one is at the initial zoom level and the other at maximum.

To me it sounds like the app is broken. Try uninstalling the update and downloading it again. If not remove the .apk using a root manager and reinstall from the Play store.
I would personally just reinstall the ROM, usually the easiest way if you are experienced.
Try the Google Maps feedback/ forum .

I have restored Maps 6.14.4 a few times with TB and updated again, resorted to use the older version for a while.
Installed the latest Stock Firmware the other day and updated Maps, which didn't make any difference either.
Shall I delete the APK and download Maps from Play store?
Reported to Google, nothing from their forums. Led me to believe there might be something in my device and not others.
I have done a photoshop clip of a small area, yours is the left hand side, if you right click on the image and Save Target as you can zoom in on your PC and see the blurring on yours where mine is clear in comparison.
Best option would be to remove it completely and install direct from Play store.
I tried different screen modes to see if it made any difference to the quality but it didn't.
