Just to be clear, and correct me if I'm wrong, you don't want to backup anything in red on Titanium. Or at least you don't want to restore it if you do back it up since they have been known to cause problems.
no, i only backup/restore what i listed.

i will like to know if i will make backup with titanium backup for full system+app backup and right now i am using bionex 1.2.1 and i am moving to team whiskey nextgen v2 will this make my phone go mad because i did also system backup?
or maybe i need only app bacup?
please help
and thanks from advance
You usually don't want to restore anything from system from titanium backup..user apps & data are ok but system & data tend to cause problems.
Backup... do a nandroid backup in CWR before flashing...
but before then, yes, backup all apps+data... I generally avoid ALL system apps, with the exception of bookmarks/wifi if I am staying on the same OS (2.2>2.2)... restoring system apps can cause issues, best to avoid it.
Also backup sms (I use SMS Backup+ in the market)
your launcher (if you use an alt one)
etc....
currently on BAMF Remix v1.8
i did search the forum and can't seem to find an answer.
are there not files/directories which contain the "call history", "sms", and "mms" which can be easily copy/pasted for backups?
in the alternative, anyone using an app or other approach which effectively backs-up call history, sms, and mms?
Titanium Backup does it.
Edit: I wouldn't restore data if you're coming from froyo to GB or GB to froyo.
titanium backup? can you explain how to accomplish this? thanks
After the backup was done.
Access TB, select "backup/restore" tab.
scroll to "contacts/calls...ctsStorage"... then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS/APN]" then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS PREFS..." then restore
Hopefully everything works out fine.
titanium backup pro well worth the money!
I use Backup to GMail
MyBackup Pro will do it between roms(2.2>2.3,2.3>2.2) and even phones(DX>Tbolt).
DAS BAMF 1.7 to BAMF GingerStripped v2.1

ok so i am attempting to backup/restore my call history. first i did my perfunctory nandroid back-up prior to flashing new ROM. Then backed-up all user and system files and data with Ti BU.
now attemtpted to restore "contacts/calls...ctsStorage". first, data only. result - no phone history apparently restored. second, attempted to restore app and data. result -no phone history apparently restored.
any thoughts?
so i have done
BACKUP
1) nandroid backup with CWM for emergency
2) backup system and apps with titanium
3) backup contacts with phone explorer (don't want sync with google account)
4) backup sms with sms backup & restore
RESTORE
1) restore system data with titanium backup (only green marked)
2) restore apps with titanium (apps and data)
3) restore contacts with phone explorer
4) restore sms with sms backup & restore
after doing this i only miss call protocoll, is there anyway to restore this ?
spirotech
By call protocol, do you mean the call logs you want to restore? If so, you can use call logs backup and restore which is made by the same dev who makes sms backup and restore. Sorry if this is not what you meant.
Straight to the cut...
I wanna change rom and backup my apps with titanium in order to use them with another rom. Some apps are on phone, the rest on sd-ext and none on sd. So...
1. If I backup my apps then I have to install titanium on new rom and restore them. Will titanium now where to place the apps again (phone/sd-ext)?
2. Do I back the up with their settings or just the apps?
Thanks!
Im not sure about sd-ext but backup your apps + data. This will restore them to their exact original state before

Click the ' RUN - Backup all user apps + system data. Should do!
It should restore all apps+data to the place they were when you backed them up.
NOOB question - restoring after flashing a new ROM
I get how to do a Nandroid back up...
I get how to do a Titanium Backup...
I would think you do a nandroid backup in case you want to undo everything and go back to a stable ROM and applications...
I would think that when you try out a new custom ROM you'd back up with Titanium and then simply restore your system data and applications with data after you flash the new ROM... BUT most of the new ROM's come with the instructions not to restore from Titanium as it may make things unstable....
So what do you frequent flashers do?
Do you ignore the Dev's telling you not to restore with TI or do you reinstall everything from scratch?
Is there a better way?
Sorry if this is a dumb question...I have hit the thanks button to many of you!
Thanks to all - great forum...
Personally, I restore user apps and selectively some system stuff. Like if I have a newer version of maps, then I'll restore. If it's dialer storage with mms apn etc then no. Every time I try to restore text that way it just screws up my messaging. I do restore bookmark data, launchers, widgets, email, keyboards. Best bet is to set backup limit to 2, backup prior to flash, backup before restoring. restore what you'd like if something is broken, restore data to proper system app. I strongly recommend not restoring dialer storage, just download SMS backup and restore
Over time and experience you'll get what you can and can't restore through titanium backup, from there you can create a custom label for system items that you will restore, and just back those up vs everything
Also, you can restore with titanium backup from nandroid backups now, just in case
