[Q] Backup question??? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i will like to know if i will make backup with titanium backup for full system+app backup and right now i am using bionex 1.2.1 and i am moving to team whiskey nextgen v2 will this make my phone go mad because i did also system backup?
or maybe i need only app bacup?
please help
and thanks from advance

You usually don't want to restore anything from system from titanium backup..user apps & data are ok but system & data tend to cause problems.

Backup... do a nandroid backup in CWR before flashing...
but before then, yes, backup all apps+data... I generally avoid ALL system apps, with the exception of bookmarks/wifi if I am staying on the same OS (2.2>2.2)... restoring system apps can cause issues, best to avoid it.
Also backup sms (I use SMS Backup+ in the market)
your launcher (if you use an alt one)
etc....

[Q] what to back up and restore

before upgarding to a different rom, what needs to be backed up and what needs to be restored after the rom upgrade. this is in addition to user apps
in CWR:
Make a Backup (this is a snapshot of your entire system)
Titanium Backup:
Backup all user apps + Data
I also backup Wifi Hotspots (passwords) and bookmarks
SMS Backup +
For all texts and MMS
LauncherPro / ADW:
Backup settings in their menus

Just to be clear, and correct me if I'm wrong, you don't want to backup anything in red on Titanium. Or at least you don't want to restore it if you do back it up since they have been known to cause problems.
no, i only backup/restore what i listed.

[Q] Backup apps and data?

Can anyone suggest a good backup that saves the apk and all the data?
I've tried titanium but it did restore some of the data, ie the dates on my calendar. I also tried mybackup root but it didn't restore some apps and others that it did restore had force closure issues.
I like the backup from cwr, is there way to only save apps?

Usually, I just use nandroid. If you want to backup your apps, though, I am pretty sure that titanium backup does that.
I should have edit my original post, i meant to say that it didn't fully restore my data, like the dates on my touch calendar.
I do usually just make a nandroid but im planning to flash froyo so need just my apps and data.

Ti usually does a pretty good job, that being said I use Astro to backup apps and associated data. Astro will backup Ti also so you can avoid having to go to market for Ti after flash ...also Ti will not backup itself, Astro will.
Thanks i'll try that out.

I have had great success using Titanium backup. Apps and data restore flawlessly. An occasional nandroid backup (from within ClockworkRecovery) is also great to do.

[Q] samsung galaxy s 2 restoring nandroid backup

Hi guys,
I am facing a very curious and seemingly common problem.I have litening rom installed on my gs2. Now i want to change the ROM but dont want to lose my data. Taking a nandroid backup I noticed that there is a special option in CWM called advanced restore.Using that you can restore parts of your nandroid backup instead of taking a full restore.
Now my question is that, once I have installed a new ROM can I take a restore of only the data part of my nandroid backup to my current ROM? The backup was taken when I had litening ROM installed. Will it return all my apps , app data and other things as they were with litening rom to my new ROM ?
You should have used Titanium Backup to restore apps and app data, restoring system data across different ROMS is not typically recommended but can be done, it is totally up to you. Nonetheless, your best bet to restore any or all of this is not a nandroid backup, that is best for restoring an entire ROM, to restore just apps or data or whatever, use Titanium Backup. So my advice would be, create another nandroid of your new ROM, restore back to your old ROM, download Titanium backup, backup apps and data using that. Restore back to new ROM, download titanium backup and choose option, restore missing apps and data.

[Q] About Google Backup

Hi, I used to use (lol) Titanium backup for backing up
my applications with their data (for example, asphalt 6 with all
of my progress). But a friend told me that when i backup with DATA,
it causes bugs of Force close when you restore, and it asks for your permission to install, and its annoying with 200 apps...
So I searched on Google a bit, and saw that Google has application
data backup, automatically! But im still not sure, will it backup all of my data?
All of the games data (progress), launchers and so on? will it restore
the data right after reinstall?
If not, I'll be glad if someone can advice me about any other good backup program..
Thanks, and sorry for my bad English...
As far as I know google app backup just redownloads your apps (no data).
And why did you "lol" at Titanium backup, it is still by far the best way to back stuff up. If you get the payed pro version then you don't have to click install for all 200 apps. And as long as you don't restore conflicting system data you should be fine.
I lol cause I said used to use (Idk why, it makes my laugh xD)
and about the Google Backup, the automatic restore says:
When re installing an application, backed up settings and data will be restored.
And what restore should I use with titanium backup?
Any help? I just wanna switch roms!
Everything Smasher said. TB has only caused force closes on about 2 of my 183 apps, but I fixed those issues with ease. I don't know too much about Google backing up data because I thought they only restored the app only.
EDIT: Maybe you should Nandroid backup your current rom then try the Google way and let us all know how it works out. If it doesn't restore app data then go back tou your current rom and take the Titanium way.

[Q] NOOB question - restoring after flashing a new ROM

NOOB question - restoring after flashing a new ROM
I get how to do a Nandroid back up...
I get how to do a Titanium Backup...
I would think you do a nandroid backup in case you want to undo everything and go back to a stable ROM and applications...
I would think that when you try out a new custom ROM you'd back up with Titanium and then simply restore your system data and applications with data after you flash the new ROM... BUT most of the new ROM's come with the instructions not to restore from Titanium as it may make things unstable....
So what do you frequent flashers do?
Do you ignore the Dev's telling you not to restore with TI or do you reinstall everything from scratch?
Is there a better way?
Sorry if this is a dumb question...I have hit the thanks button to many of you!
Thanks to all - great forum...
Personally, I restore user apps and selectively some system stuff. Like if I have a newer version of maps, then I'll restore. If it's dialer storage with mms apn etc then no. Every time I try to restore text that way it just screws up my messaging. I do restore bookmark data, launchers, widgets, email, keyboards. Best bet is to set backup limit to 2, backup prior to flash, backup before restoring. restore what you'd like if something is broken, restore data to proper system app. I strongly recommend not restoring dialer storage, just download SMS backup and restore
Over time and experience you'll get what you can and can't restore through titanium backup, from there you can create a custom label for system items that you will restore, and just back those up vs everything
Also, you can restore with titanium backup from nandroid backups now, just in case
