I'm on T-Mobile USA (San Diego)... Been through 3 PPCs, 4 different radio stacks, and at least as many roms, and I am **lucky** to get 9600. It's painfully slow as the rule (typically 30-45 seconds to bring up a page with nothing but a 25KB image =~ 4500bps)... once in a great while I'll be shocked with speeds approaching 28.8 but it never lasts for even a day. =(
Repeated calls to TMO always lead to me being put through their series of troubleshooting, and end in no results. If I really push, they offer to replace my phone. (Which would explain why I'm on my 3rd one.) I was really hoping this latest update (4.01) would ease my suffering, but no... I still feel like I'm back in 1984 connecting from my Commodore 64 with a 300 Baud modem.
I can't even run bandwidthplace.com/speedtest, it times out!
Does ANYONE have any ideas?! I'm getting desperate , if it wasn't for my damn contract I would have bailed by now.
Sidenote -- Funny thing is, just last week, I put the latest ATT RS ROM on, and for about a day I was getting respectable speeds... then, bam... back to the T-mobile I've known and hated. Probably was just coincidence and TMO was having a good day as I had pretty much given up on GPRS prior to that.
Anyone else in SD area have similar (or dis-similar) results?
BTW, I'm not THAT new... been lurking here for months. =) Hello to all!
Hi ...
This is weird! ... thought you guys in the US should have the top of the line in technology and infrastructure than we have in here ... no envy, but I can get 61 KB/s after midnight
In my experience, the problem maybe in the TMO gateway to the internet cloude not the GPRS traffic speed itself. If u have a contact inside TMO, most propably they can do such test.
Hello,
Hoping to get some advice here. Currently on Sogarth Base Vanilla Rom running radio 1.58 on Rogers with the new 6GB data plan. Couldn't get the 3g and H to show up until I configured the Band settings to Auto (another tip i got from these forums). This changes the provider name to "ROGERS UMTS". At this point, I could get 3g + H downloads, although it still felt a bit slow. Unfortunately, my 7500 will no longer hold any cell calls. All outgoing fails, and incoming only lasts 1-2 minutes. These are tests throughout the city(GTA).
Wife's phone (Tytn II) is working great at 3G + H using stock rom.
The only way I can get good cell reception again is if I manually tune the Band settings to GSM & GSM (1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850). Of course, I can never get any type of speed over Edge. The provider name changes to just ROGERS, which is the same provider name that the Tytn II gets.
Anyone have any words of advice or tips that I can try? Rogers won't help because it's an unsupported phone. Data reception is not an issue because the Tytn II gets full 3G/H. I'm hoping to finally unleash the power of this phone.
I'm wondering if it makes sense to downgrade to 1.57. I never tried this version with the data plan, because I only just recently got it. Hoping some people may have some telling experiences.
Thanks in advance,
achok.
Just as an update, reflashed to 1.57 radio with no improvement.
any other athena + rogers users here?
did you try the 3G hack?
download the nice utility from this forum
it was called something super mobile hack
it lets you customize sooooo much stuff of the phone inside and out
after i enabled it, mine always gets the best stuff 3G and HDPDA speed
which was awesome
if i didn't enable it, it was always on EDGE, and very few times on 3G
HOWEVER!!!!!!
i think i know why HTC did not turn that on by default
because whenever i keep 3G & HDPDA on all the time
it drains battery real fast
is worse than using WI FI all day long
so what i do now, is to keep it on EDGE for the automated downloads from programs Weather, TomTom, Stock, push email, etc
but when i SURF THE WEB, i enable 3G, and ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM like the commercial
is a quick ON OFF thing in the COMM Manager.
and when i'm done looking up stuff on the WEB, i turn it back to EDGE mode
to save battery
Don't know why you need to turn it off, I keep H on all the time and at the end of a low-useage day I'm still in the mid-80's on my battery. Yes, if I start surfing heavily the battery goes down much faster, but not from background push/pulls.
i do surf browse de web quite a bit
lots of download, some uploads
streaming videos
and i use VNC and remote deskop quite a lot for work / home stuff, meanwhile on the road.
this phone is the best thing every.
now i can literally work from any where, and people will still think i'm in the office
as long as i have good signal that is
Best thing with the Advantage is...... OUR BATTERY LAST SOOOOO LONNNNNNNNNG compare to a LAPTOP of any size, doing the same thing
Thanks for the replies and suggestion. I'll try the 3G hack and report back.
Anyway you can report which Radio ROM you are using? I'm still believing that certain Radio ROM's are better suited for the Rogers/Fido 3G network....
...or is the Rogers/3G network just than inconsistent?
Regards,
achok.
as you can see in my siggie it's the X7510 which means it has the stock 1.58 Radio that everyone is upgrading to with the Modded ROMs
and the other thing is, im on FIDO, not Rogers.
but LOL as if that matters anymore, they are both the same company now.
just one has better billing, and Cutomer Service, than the Get Lost actitude from Rogers CS people, and always screwed up and over billed invoices every month....
Folks, just as an update:
I recently upgraded to Michy 4.0 1.2 spl (16mb version) (fantastic ROM by the way...) and stayed with Radio 1.57.
So far all looks to be good, but still need to test over the next few days.
Hopefully, this is a sign that things are finally starting to work the way it's supposed to.
Regards,
Achok
I just upgraded to AP 4.0 Platinum..Everything works fine ( I think ) except when I go to m.youtube.com to watch videos, and streaming media starts, It says "Failed to find network."
Please help!!!
Coz this is the very reason why I upgraded the rom..thinking it would solve the problem..
I'm with Rogers..
I already installed the latest FP7 plugin thingy..
HELP ME!!!!
i cant get my 3G or my HSDPA to work at all. Im using The HTC TOUCH PRO, which i imported on the ROGERS network. Ive been reading these forums and i have no clue as to what radios and rom versions are nor how to even tell what im using. WHOSE THE GENIOUS HERE...HELP ME.. This phones wack unless i get the best out of it...

Ok, NO Matter what tweaks I've done, I've never gotten my Vibrant to ever do better than 151kbps DL and the collective average is around, 61kbps DL I know I should be getting at least a Meg or more better. Just tired of seeing dial-up performance, when it should be better
I tried this tweak using root explorer, editing the first 10 lines of the data tweak. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151608?
Am currently using KB5 modem, always shows good signal strength, but the data thru-put sucks!!
Im using Simple Mobile, which is actually T-Mobiles network, I havent DL enough of anything to be capped, even though SMobile has it as unlimited, with no throttling!! And BTW when I was using T-Mobile still have always had slow data speeds and the same problem Im in right now!!
Also even when I'm in a known good area where it should be 3G it seems its always on Edge 2G!! Occasionally it'll show a "G" but it never seems to last long or make a difference in data speed!!
I've made sure the configuration in settings is set to GSM only. And this vibrant I know is capable of 3G frequencies!!
What suggestions or tweaks or script mods do I need to do to get this speed up to what it should be! Short of changing modems!!
Gsm=2g
wcdma=3g
**snicker**
I'm on Straight Talk ATT. I'm getting any where between 120 & 350 ping and no more than 145kbps down. The usual 800kbps-1Mbps down from what I've read is normal. Obviously the down speed is wrong. The ping majority of the time is closer to the 350ms even when in a full bars area and my g/f Atrix 2 is getting ping in the 60's at the same place.
I'm on vacation so I've spent the past 3 days searching XDA and the Internet at large for solutions. I've tried just about every variation of keywords I can find. These searches are what have led me to most of the things listed that I have tried.
I've noticed that Speedtest.net seems to think I'm in Florida when I'm in Peoria, IL and it thinks I'm in Indiana when I'm in Davenport, IA. I'm not sure where Peoria routes their internet but everything in Davenport goes through Chicago. In Dubuque, IA it does seem to find me coming out of Madison WI or Wisconsin Falls which does seem to be more or less correct. I'm not positive if this is a symptom or just the speed test app being dumb.
The first two weeks the phone worked fine. 2-3Mbps on H+ during peak hours in the same spot and 5.5-6Mbps off peak. There is a possibility something I did may have cause it but other than small tweeks to the Straight Talk APN I don't know what could have caused it. I got Paranoid Android and was pretty happy but sometimes my tethering wasn't so great which is why I played with it at all.
I'm rooted and have cwm installed. I've tried: CM7.2, Stock(fruit cake) 2.3.4 & Paranoid Android 2.99.
I've also tried the following radios: 1.77.15P US ATT, 1.77.37P US ATT(12 Dec 2011), 1.87.00R and 1.97.00R hktw retail 23 Jun 2011.
Certain radios create a smoother more constant connection speed but still capped at approx 145kbps.
I've since tried various adjustments to the APN settings including with and without proxy settings, with and with out default, supl, mms and even purging all/most of the ATT APNs by renaming the APN XML file. This gives me one default APN for ATT and my Straight Talk APN. This has had no effect on the issue. I've also found on XDA some folks sharing ATT APN settings files and I've tried using those as well.
I've never dropped the phone or otherwise abused it so I have difficulty with the idea that it's bad hardware. Also the fact that my upload is decent almost makes me a little dismissive of that idea as well.
Any help or insight in to the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider my problem!
Hello
So for the past year or so I've been messing around with a lot of different roms and none of them have been perfect, I finally tried this rom which turned out to be pretty much perfect and very stable for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-qs-i9300-kk-t2755841
but with only downside, as it turns out the data connection really sucks, once upon a time my connection was something like 16-20 Mbps download speed, and now it's like 3-4 Mbps, at first I figured it was my carrier but I contacted them and they told me that they haven't changed the speed of my connection. So now I'm thinking it must be my ROM that's something wrong with, like the modem.
So my question is: what is the best modem/rom with the best data connection for the i9300? I live in Denmark with TDC as my network, and Telmore as my carrier, I don't know if that helps
Thank you all in advance!
