Hi all
I have the marketplace live tile on my start screen and I was notified of an update just now. It was for Orange Maps Navigation.
If you're using the HTC 7 Mozart you should open the marketplace and you will see 1 update at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on this it will show you an update for Orange Maps. Select Update All at the bottom left of the screen.
Now you have a fully functional Sat Nav system on your phone! It's only free on some Orange price plans. I am on Panther and get the basic version for free and can pay £2:50 per month and get traffic and speed cameras as well.
Cheers

Good spot!
For info, I'm on a Mozart as well but the marketplace didn't give me an update notification. I searched for the app tho and was able update once I'd found it.
Cheers.
I installed Orange Maps today and did a test navigation route for 2-3 miles. It worked perfectly almost as good as tom tom.
Orange Maps is herer
Yep, my Mozart picked up an update yesterday, and I installed it an tried it.
My thoughts so far:
1. Seems fine - navigation works OK. Free on Panther (with live traffic and camera alerts for 2.50 a month - which I haven't tried yet)
2. Navigation voice seemd a little quiet - but that is probably tied to overall issue of WP7 volumes all controlled from one volume control (I really want to be able to set system volumes and ring volumes differently)
3. Day / Night view is not switched automatically (but it's an icon on the main screen so no major issue)
4. You have to turn off WiFi before you can use it - I woul like to be able to do my searching and set up my favorites etc on a fast WiFi connection (as I struggle to get a good data signal indoors).
5. The screen stays on whilst navigating (which is good), but as soon as you drive past your destination it stops navigating (and then your phone turns off depending on your settings), so if you miss your destination you will have to stop and start up the app again to find your way back
6. Not sure how it will deal with multi tasking issues (what happens if a call comes in whilst you are driving?). I set up a route at home, and tried turning off the phone (putting it to sleep pressing the top button). I turned it back on, clicked on Orange Maps and it popped up syaing 'do you want to conitnue your route' - which was great. I turned it off again, and then when I got in the truck (about 10 mins later), I clicked on Orange Maps and it just started up with a blank location screen. Luckily it has a histroy of recent searches / places, so it wasn't more than about 4 clicks to get it going again (but it had to re-download the route, which was a pain).
7. The 'spoken road names' (text to speach) is a nice feature, but the street names (presumably downloaded from the Orange servers) are of a much lower audio quality than the general directions, which sounds a little wierd. Also, I don't think it does all names (it didnt' seem to on my test journey last night) - but it wasn't just major roads. To be honest, I think it did the first 5 or 6 road names and then stopped....
Overall I'm pleased, it's turn by turn Sat Nav for free (on my contract), which is more than I've had for the last few months (I've had to use Bing Maps in a couple of emergencies, and you can use it in the truck if you have to, but it's just not the same as proper sat nav.
I'll be looking forward to see what MS bring out next year for Bing Maps, and see how it compares, but for now, I guess this is all we've got.
Has anyone tried the extra live traffic and speed camera updates yet? Do you know if you have to committ to paying this for a number of months, or can you just turn it on and off as required??
I haven't got the notification yet. in which category you found the orange maps application on market place? cheers...
Mine had some problem in Marketplace this mornng (said something like it hadn't succesfully downloaded, but failed to download it again - even though it worked fine last night!)
So I uninstalled it, and then just went into Marketplace and did a search for Orange Maps (and it came up straight away).
As a side note, when I reinstalled it, I didn't have to re-enter my personal info and choose my plan etc - so I'm guessing that even when apps are uninstalled, some user data can be left behind (registry perhaps?)
I'm excited to use this! I'm on Dolphin though so I have to wait until the end of the month to change to Panther, I don't want to pay £5 to use this!

Hi ZeeShh
If you do a search for "Orange Maps" from phone, it should come up. Just open the marketplace and then tap the search button.

same here, no notifications and search culdn't find anything in the marketplace, i am using vodafone sim, culd this be an reason?
hard to believe that orange maps are live as i went through website an it says coming soon.....
Hi Andrew, thanks for the guide but nothing came up in market place search. I even tried with "orange" word alone.
I am out of country at the moment and using local SIM; would this be a reason like idonxda is facing?
Hi
I can confirm it is live.
idonxda - even if you could download it you wouldn't be able to use it on a vodafone sim - they have locked it to Orange only (you can't even use via Wifi - even on an Orange phone).
Zeesh - i would guess that roaming abroad will mean you're using another carrier, and so again the 'Orange Lock' would prevent you using it.
However, I'm surprised that this is preventing you from finding it in the Marketplace. I was doubting myself so I just checked on my phone again.
Open Marketplace, hit search, type 'Orange Maps' and it comes up.
Browse through to Applications, Navigation, Free and it'a about the 15th one down the list on my phone.
And there's another review dated today so other people have found it!
I wonder if they are able to 'sim lock' (i.e. operator lock) items in Marketplace??
Got a few questions..
1. It says unlimited use of orange maps with my panther plan, so does that mean my 750mb internet usage would't be affected?
2. Are the maps offline by default or it downloads everytime it says 'downloading route'?
3. I use up around 500 mb easily in 15-20 days & monitor it for the remaining days. So if i use the maps for say 6-7 miles, how much data it will use? I can't find any info on data usage specific to maps, if there is any?

Hi thnaks Paul, finally I cud find with a trick- I installed the pre installed apps then restarted phone and researched then I was able to find it and tried it with Orange sim card. But funny things if i try to search on marketplace again i canot find, i think there is something either may be related to to the Orange sim.

Hi omniauser7
I think you need to direct those questions to Orange.

I'm fairly sure the maps are downloaded each time.
I'm not sure about data usage, I don't monitor mine (I thought the Panther plans were true 'unlimited' data usage?)
Ok, I'm back in UK, put the orange SIM in my phone and got the Orange Maps updated, installed. thanks to all out there.
However, Since I'm not on Panther plan so it was not able to use the maps straight away; called Orange help desk and they told me either I've to be on Panther or with existing package I can get the subscription for £2.50 per month with unlimited orange maps usage and with traffic updates etc. I got it subscribed for additional £2.50 per month.
However what customer care representative was not sure that with this unlimited subscription the orange maps data usage will be from my 1GB internet bundle or will it be out of it? I did not ask further on this and will check my next bill for confirmation or I'm sure I'll get the answer on this forum quickly
cheers...
hey guys,
The one reason we (in our organisation) don't use orange maps is that it downloads maps every single time and takes it out of your internet useage. Cheaper to go buy a proper sat nav unit, or software in the long run.
Even if you're not on panther you can get 7 days free trial of pro version. Make sure it's for you
Can't upgrade app
Is anyone else getting the following problem?
My Marketplace shows an update required for Orange Maps, I select the app, click update, then I allow the access to location, then I get the following message:
"Can't get this information at the moment. Check again in a little while."
I have had this for a few days now. Also, if I search for the app in the marketplace it does not show, either searching by name or looking under Navigation>Free.
I have an Orange UK SIM but I have switched the SD card for a 16GB one so I wonder if that is somehow linked to this problem.

Hey guys,
Can you tell me if there is an "issue" with the GPS on the Alltel Touch Pro phones? These are fairly new phones and have only been out for a couple weeks so there may not be a lot of info available but it sure seems to me there are some issues here.
I'm on my 3rd phone. First phone was probably OK but since it was new and nobody in the area was familiar with it, everyone thought the speakerphone speaker was defective... turns out it just sucks but that's in a different thread. On the 2nd phone we noticed at the Alltel store the signal kept dropping out completely and then coming back. Also I dropped a call, looked at the phone and it showed no bars in a very good signal reception area. That coupled with I couldn't get the GPS to reliably work, Alltel swapped out the phone again for me thinking the GPS was defective. Well, third one might be worse!!!???
I have verified I have the 911 location settings turned ON.
I have run QuickGPS and downloaded the data.
On the 2nd phone after several days of trying it off and on and having zero success I decided to get the $9.99 monthly Alltel app. It did indicate a weak signal but eventually picked up my location. Hmm??? I then went into Google Maps and it too was seeing around 10 satellites. Why could I not get it to see any satellites for days then as soon as I paid for the monthly Alltel app it "kinda" worked??? I say "kinda" because after that being able to lock onto satellites even in an open field was very iffy. So, I took the Alltel GPS app off the phone and did a hard reset because I still couldn't consistently get any satellites. After the hard reset I tried again with Google Maps and nothing. I then downloaded GPS Test and it immediately found several satellites??? I then started up Google Maps and then it immediately started working too?!? During all this I installed TomTom Navigator 5 (own that so thought I'd try it) and it too was "iffy" if it would find any satellites but it did connect so long as I had the GPS Test program running in the background. I could live with that but even with the GPS Test program running in the background on the 2nd phone it wasn't at all consistent even outside in an open field. What I find odd though is that the GPS seems to "stick" and the GPS Test program was "unsticking" the locked up GPS... but not reliably.
Now for the 3rd phone. Get the 3rd phone this morning and immediately download Google Maps, turn on location settings, and do the Quick GPS. Do a soft reset and try out Google Maps in a parking lot. NOTHING again after over 10 minutes. CRAP! Downloaded GPS Test and now on this phone I'm only getting "GPS starting up" with one yellow bar. I can't even get GPS Test to work now but it finds the GPS and acts like it is trying to lock on to satellites. On both phones it was defaulting to 9600 baud. Seemed to not make a difference if I select 9600 or 4800... when it works it works and when it doesn't it doesn't.
This is very frustrating. It is not like the programs don't work because I've got them all to work but only sporadically. Is Alltel doing "something" to this phone and the GPS like "half assed" locking it out??? I don't know what else it could be. Could I have got two bad phones in a row? I've read were other Alltel users just download Google Maps and, bingo, works immediately for them.
Any ideas as to what I might be able to try would be greatly appreciated. I love some of the features on the phone but some of the basic items that should work (speakerphone, GPS) on an expensive phone like this don't work worth a darn
Thanks!!!
Drop the Alltel Nav plan...you don't need it. All it did was set your GPS settings to work, which you can do in the settings. Set GPS Hardware Port GPS and GPS Program Port both to none. Set Baud at 4800 and allow automatic managment. Soft Reset just in case and you should be good to go!

I only had the Alltel Nav plan for a couple of days... only got it for troubleshooting.
I had tried your settings before and both Google Maps and GPS Test could not even find the GPS. I just tried again and same results... GPS just keeps scanning for the GPS and can never find it. You have an Alltel phone?
The setting that you recommend me changing away from the default setting is the GPS Program Port... if that is set to NONE, the programs can't even find the GPS. When I change it back to COM4, the GPS is found but GPS Test sits at "GPS Starting Up" with either no satellites found or just one most of the time. I did the other day get it to work even on this new phone but then yesterday tried again for 20 minutes sitting still outside and the best I got GPS Test to show was 4 satellites... not even enough to get past the "starting up" message.
It seems like it is defective again but, man, TWO phones in a row with a bad GPS?????
So last night after replying to this thread, I was messing around with the new google maps. This morning...NOTHING works with my GPS. Perhaps the download of alltel nav (although canceled) activated the GPS on my phone for a specified time and now the sub ended. I was sold on this phone by Alltel reps because the GPS was not locked to an app.

Well, after screwing around yesterday like I did, I decided to just let it set in my garage (with many sky lights) this morning for a few hours with the GPS Test program running and looking for satellites. NOTHING. Did a soft reset, went outside, started up the GPS Test program and within 5 seconds was locked on to 10 satellites!?!?! I could swear I've done soft resets before and it did no good. Will try a soft reset again if it quits working on me. Also, I'm inside the house now in a room with ZERO windows and it is still seeing 7 satellites. I suspect there is an issue with GPS on this phone but because it seems very "flaky" I'd think a software update may be able to fix it... hope so anyway!
You might want to try a soft reset and see if that works for ya?
I also talked to a smart phone expert guy and he said it doesn't hurt to do the Quick GPS DAILY. He has found that on many phones running a program like this daily helps the phone to connect much quicker. FWIW, I didn't run it today and after the reset it connected in seconds. LOL
Ok, so I tried running Quick GPS and I get an error "Connection Failed". Perhaps this is somehow related to the GPS issue? I will keep trying throughout the day.

I only ever got that when my 911 location setting was turned OFF when I first got the phone. Turned that on and it worked no problem. Also, of course, you have to be able to get your data connection established. With a data connection and your location settings ON, I don't know why you'd have a problem.
GPS no worky right for me......
Finally someone with a thread for this issue! I too am having the exact same problem. The GPS is very "flaky" at best.... I have had it work sporadically at best in the car and will drop it for no reason and the pick it right back up and then go out for good. I dont really understand what to do, it is all quite a mystery. I have manipulated the settings back and forth trying diffent things to no avail. I hope there is an update soon that straightens this out. It annoys me becasue my old titan got signal in about 10 seconds, 10 satellites, indoors, in any part of my house.... just a bit frustrating. Hopefully we get a fix soon.
Thanks for any advice on this!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
This was driving me nuts! Now not only does quickGPS work, so does google maps I remember now changing that setting last night. Who knew?

After messing with this a bit more, I think there is definitely an issue with the Alltel version of this phone and the GPS. It seems that if I can't get it to work, it WILL work after I do a soft reset. What triggers the "need" to do a soft reset I have not yet figured out. But, I do know that I saw a friend who just got a Sprint HTC Touch Pro and had no idea about the GPS. I downloaded Google Maps on their phone and in less than 5 seconds the GPS was working like a charm.
Looks like the Alltel GPS works but is very sporadic at best and, for whatever reason, requires a soft reset damn near each time you want to use it. Hoping for a real "fix" for this soon!
and how do i change the 911 location settings
The 911 settings are located in the settings for the phone. START->SETTINGS->PHONE then click the Services tab and it is under the Location Setting.

Ok here is something that may be contributing to my problem. So i have double and triple checked the my location check and looked at the option which has always read "on". the strange thin is that the icon on the phone dialer screen shows my location feature is set to off. I have gone back to check the location setting and verified it was on. So i selected off then back on and then the icon reflected it was "on". I have tried soft resets after doing this and it goes right back to the way it was before I force it on. I am now hinking this is what is contributing to the flaky response of the gps. just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.....

Which icon are you talking about? I looked through the online pdf manual and could find no icon that indicated this setting was on or off
Also, while a soft reset sometimes works for this, it doesn't all the time. What has saved me time in this, though, is that I've learned that if it doesn't connect in under a minute, it ain't going to. Mine either works pretty much right away or doesn't work at all. It does seem to help to start up GPS Test first but that doesn't always work either.
After reading a bit more about this on other forums, it doesn't look to be related specifically to the Alltel version like I originally assumed. A number of people with other carriers are also experiencing "flaky" operation of the HTC Touch Pro GPS. The very sad part about this is that, apparently, HTC refuses to acknowledge a problem exists.
Would be nice to know if this is a software/driver issue or hardware issue. If a hardware issue then I'll be stuck using an external receiver most likely. Software, I can hold out hope that somebody will get it figured out!
the icon i am referring to is on you phone dialer. it is a circle that resembles a set of crosshairs. when the location feature is on, you will see the crosshairs. when the setting is off the crosshairs have a diagonal line through them. i am using my phone to send this so i cant attach any pictures right now. the icon is right next to the back arrow at the top of the dialer where the number you dial is shown.
update... spent 30 minutes with alltel smartphone support and they had no solution other than saying they would send this to the group that reports issues to htc to work on a solution. they did offer me to return it but i like this phone too much. i am
sure we will figure it out soon enough.

Ahh... I see that now and amazingly enough, mine has a line through it. I'll check that next time I can get the GPS to work and see if it changes.
Like you, I really like the phone but it greatly aggravates me that something so expensive doesn't work, as designed, out of the box.
I have had 3 alltel TP phones and all of them once 911 and location was set to on and quick gps was run once then they always got instant locks of 10 satellites. On my mogul the best i would ever get would be 4-6 satellites. Google & Live search use the intermediate driver with default settings with no lag and Iguidance (which is the best voiceprompt gps software) works with no lag when using Franson GPS gate as a virtual com port for the GPS driver.

If you go to your phone dialer, is there a "line" through the crosshair/circle icon?
I haven't been able to get a lock for couple days now. Bummer. I'm going to call Alltel tech support again and see what they say.
Ok, after not even beeing able to get more than a couple satellites being shown in GPS Test which means nothing more than a GPS Starting message, I decided to call tech support to see if they had documented any other issues with the phone since I last contacted them. I was told there are NO known issues with the Touch Pro (not even the problem with the speakerphone or the previously reported GPS issues).
After talking with tech support and they guy telling me that they get a number of calls for "other" GPS software programs but not too many for the Alltel Navagation program that they offer, he told me he can't help me with the other programs and I should contact their vendors. I tried to explain to him that one was a simple GPS Test program and the other was Google Maps but he kept saying that they don't really have problems with "their" GPS subscription program.
Being basically fed up and figuring it was worth the $10 to continue to troubleshoot this problem, I downloaded the Alltel Navagation program again. And guess what... IT WORKED. Guess what else... when I had the Alltel Navagation program working, GPS Test and Google Maps work fine too and I'm even inside a large building right now!!!
Does anybody have any "inside" on what is going on here? I know a number of Alltel people say the GPS on their Touch Pro works just fine using something like Google Maps. On mine, it "sometimes" works. I find it VERY odd that on my last Touch Pro phone I NEVER got even a single satellite to show until I downloaded the Alltel pay program. Now, with this phone, after struggling with it a bit I can "sometimes" get it to work but haven't been able to for a couple days, even after numerous soft resets but now, immediately after activating and running the Alltel program, my GPS starting working just peachy and even inside a large building!?!? I've got a full 5 bars in the Alltel GPS program inside. WHAT GIVES???
I'm going to pay for this Alltel program for a few days and see if I can consistently get a lock. If so, I'd sure like to know why the phone's GPS magically gets "better" so long as you pay for their service

I am using the regular windows dialer and yes there is a line through the circle/crosshair.
I just went outside and launched Gpsgate/Iguidance and had 10 sattelites instantly, it has been at least a week since I have drove and used the GPS, but I use it all the time with no problems or lag. Inside I almost instantly get 6-7 sats. using Google maps or livesearch without GPS gate, only the MS intermediate driver I get instant locks as well. I ran quick GPS once about a month ago on this unit.
i know there is many threads out there about this..

Smartphonetracker is a nice free app....it uses Google maps to locate....brings it right to the house view...(street view)
I second Smartphonetracker. It works great
so i just dl the smartphone tracker..... still kinda noob
1. when i check the SMS box it says #, thats my phone # right????
2. i put my email in and so does that mean i send a email to that address and it tells me my phones location???
just tryin to figure how this thing works
The sms box is phone you want the sms/ google map link sent to. If you leave the box blank it will send and sms to the phone that sent the sms to activate smartphonetracker on your phone, you click on the link, and it will open the phones bowser in google maps, and show you where your phone is.
The email location, is an email address that you want SPT to send the google maps link to. You will get an email from your phone with a google maps link, open it, and it will show you where your phone is.
Hope that helps
This application is fasinating! I really like Smartphonetracker! I'll sneak it on my friends sites and track them like the government!
i am actually trying sprite terminator now, ill see how it works for this week and then ill try smartphonetracker next week and compare
ill post the results
thanks,

Has anybody used SmartPhoneTracker on a verizon phone with bored's GPS fix? My rom has the fix and GPS works very well using google maps and live search, but this program won't pick up the GPS (continuously says initializing GPS).
Thanks.
Anyone know why I get "Initializing GPS" for Smartphonetracker and it never gets past 0/1? I installed it to internal memory. GPS and data connections are on. I've got good signal. I'm running version 3.5 of windows .net
If I click "Send now" it says GPS not available. It's a Sprint Touch Pro with the standard rom.
Nevermind. Once I got out of my office building for lunch it worked. Must not have been able to acquire my position from inside.

now just if it was able to get A-GPS position(triangulate). I know it's not accurate as actual GPS position, but atleast it works inside buildings.
I think best would be two triggers, one to initialize A-GPS and second one to initialize actual GPS. As the GPS message does not get sent until phone gets GPS signal, it would be good to send A-GPS signal to get the proximity of the phone. Once the phone has GPS signal, it would provide exact location. This way if someone stole your phone, you would know the approximate location, and then just wait and get the actual position from the GPS and track that #@$#))#@$ down.
there may be a better way, but thats what i've thought about.
well, since starting this thread i settled on sprite terminator its been working great
tested it a couple of times and it works great!

RemoteTracker works very well on my Verizon Touch Pro with bored's GPS fix.
Guys this is great!!! Thanks a lot for this post!!!
I can't believe that nobody's brought up Flexilis. It's free and it does everything from GPS Remote lookup of device to remote alarm initiation(beeps for 5 mins and the person with the device can't do a damn thing to silence it, even if they power off the phone then when they power it on again it'll beep again for the remaining balance of the 5 mins), and remote wipe abilities.
Okay, my phone is on the 2.3.4 OTA update it is also rooted and unlocked ... have recently wiped it clean to try to track down the issue ...
since updating it ... now when i go to the marketplace it will 'hang' and not download anything for a bit ... the H+ icon on the top is in black letters ... after a while the icon will update and show the H+ in blue and the arrows start to light up and the download will finally start ...
if i connect it to wifi it works just fine
i notice if i let the phone sleep for a legnth of time it will do this over again, but if i keep it 'awake' it continues to work as normal...
is there a setting someplace that i am overlooking that allows you to suspend cellular data while sleeping ?
It seems similar to what a lot of us OTA-ers are experiencing. Definitely wondering about this as well.
~ Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G ~
ok so it is not just me .... searched on the forum for a bit and did not find a post about it.
Is it only when you go to the Market?
Are you using the new Market app? (New Market app can cause data to drop).
More info please.
when i first applied the OTA it had the old market but was doing this ... (i did a reset because of it and the fingerprint scanner not working) ... after the reset the first time i went to the market it downloaded the new version and worked for a bit ... but now it is back to making the H+ turn black which i am guessing is showing that there is no data ??? because nothing else will work for a bit after that happens ...
oh, and the fingerprint scanner still doesn't work but thats another issue i need to figure out.
Make sure that your phone is logged into Google Talk by following these steps:
Go to your phone’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
If you’re already logged into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
Launch Talk again to sign in
Check the markets support page, its under known issues, had the same problem and it worked for me
First, I have searched both here and Google regarding my question but all I’ve turned up are problems with WiFi connections (which I don’t have – my connection is always solid) and reported problems about 8 months ago with payments in general (my problems are with WiFi only).
My problem is that any time I try to purchase an app on Android Market (and now Google Play) using WiFi, the app hangs at the point where it’s trying to authorize payment. It just sits there no matter how long I wait (well… at least 10 minutes or so). If I switch over to the home screen, turn off WiFi so 4G comes back up and then switch back to Android Market/Google Play, payment goes through properly. Once the download starts I can switch back to WiFi and the app will download without issue. This happened several times when I was straight stock using Android Market, at least once when I switched to NRG’s ROM using Android market, and again this morning with Google Play; it isn’t just the new Google Play app.
I wanted to ask whether anyone else has experienced this and whether you found any reason for it or a solution to it. This isn’t the end of the world but it would be nice to have it working correctly so I don’t have to mess around with the connection while trying to download a large app.
Thanks!

I was having issues last night buying app from google play, was getting error 403. then this morning I bought another and it went through and I was like wtf!
I refunded the three apps that didn't go through then re bought them and they downloaded perfectly.. lol
not sure if that is the issue you're having but take a look at this thread:http://www.google.com/support/forum...ad?fid=4627bf187632930e0004babe8be00aa0&hl=en

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately my issue is different. I never got an error of any kind, it just sat there trying to authorize payment until I switched from WiFi back to 4G, then it went through without issue. Afterword, I could download the app on WiFi just fine.
Thanks again.
My payments for apps only work over 4g
well I can confirm it isn't using wifi, it COULD be your router or firewall, or some other settings. I can confirm it because I don't have a data plan, I use wifi for everything and I have bought apps through it.

Hummm, guess that's just the way it works. Thanks for the feedback.
You needn't read this thread. There is nothing of any import here.
I was unable to learn how to delete it, or I would have.
As I mentioned below, I manually updated this phone to Nougat using the LG Bridge program. It complicates matters that I can't remember the exact time-frame for issues. I do remember getting real-time traffic updates using google maps even after I upgraded to Android 7. And I did stream Netflix once while on a 12 hour roadtrip, but I can't remember if that was before or after the road-trip. I have found and tried many APN's for the H2O service. Some are supposedly specifically for the G5, others just for mms or internet. Most recently, I did a factory reset after backing up my personal data and media. Twice now actually. The first time, I ran the backup software soon after resetting and when things hadn't changed, I surmised that maybe I was just importing the problem back onto the phone in my settings or something, so I reset again and this time only chose two of the settings categories near the top of the list since they seemed separate to the navigation programming.
I'm going to reset again now and see if the maps work with a stock setup, then see if I can slowly add things one at a time and continually monitor the data functionality.
If a moderator sees this and can delete this post, I would appreciate it since it doesn't seem like it could be helpful to anyone else the way it is. If I am successful in getting the data working and this thread still remains, I will post the process I had followed to achieve that in an "Issue Solved" heading at the bottom. Everything between the snowflakes (*****) is the older post and edits.

History of Issue(s):
>This is my first smartphone and my first Android device
> Bought phone used off swappa running MM 6.?
>Have owned phone for around 8 months
>Volume down button wasn't working, figured I could live with pressing vol up and moving it down manually.
> Thought it would be good idea to upgrade manually to Nougat (10h update) Using LG bridge (about 5 months ago?)
> My carrier is H2Owireless, an AT&T MVNO
> Used to have internet, google maps real-time traffic used to work, Netfilx used to work (both without WiFi).
> Could make calls, send texts, listen to Pandora or Spotify and use my Maps for commuting to work.
> Couldn't send MMS pic msgs.
> Began to learn about APN's and what the different network settings did.
>Tried many APN's and fotzed around with Global, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/UMTS and the submode settings
>Can get 4G and LTE , often have to switch back to Global setting to send SMS/MMS
> Had H2O set up APN as best they knew and network settings to what they felt would work best
> Can do anything and evrything when Wifi is enabled (that's never been an issue)
> I thought phone had bricked about 2 months ago while on a roadtrip.
> Discovered on forum that I could swap cam plus for chin and power on that way.
> Turned out power button was no longer functional
> Learned about vol up + charger to power on phone (use an app to power off and restart phone)
> took off cam plus so I could have phone in case.
And now, I'm standing at the edge of a very deep rabbit hole with a phone that can't use mobile data for most internet access (spotify works, Pandora never worked very well). I've discovered that the version of Nougat I'm running is problematic (update 10h Brightpoint) and that my forcing the update to Nougat might be largely responsible for these issues.
I see myself having a choice between learning how to flash the phone back to Marshmallow, or learning how to flash it up to update 21c... or live without mobile data for most of the functionality I wanted from the phone...
I seek advice from the the forum for which of these options people think I might best choose. Do I need to acquaint myself with these programs used to flash the ROM? Does it seem to you readers that my problems are symptomatic of those which are best rectified by flashing up? Or rolling back to Marshmallow...
I just want to be able to google something while I'm away from wifi.. to get traffic updates while I'm using the navigation.. to listen to spotify.. maybe even watch something on netflix... (calling, SMS and MMS functionality is a given, but I do still have them for the most part).
I can pick things up if I read tutorials / guides... I've flashed PC BIOS before... I could figure it out if I needed to...
But maybe I just need a new chin or clean it? Maybe I should factory reset? Maybe there's other potential causes I'm unaware of?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. It's late here and I won't be reading any responses until tomorrow at work.
Thanking you very much in advance. --Wayne
Edit: I was about to check LG Bridge to see if there was an update available for nougat.. thought I would get this out there first since I was pretty sure I wouldn't get both done tonight..
3rd edit: I checked for LG update, nothing available. I finally decided to factory reset before getting into flashing. That seemed to fix the google maps issue as it seemed to be working without WiFi enabled (I say 'seemed' because my office is slightly below grade and getting a good signal is tough. If it's not working, the address remains grayed out and the connection just buffers, the address filled in after the reset. Then I decided to move some of the things I had backed up from the SD card but neglected to deselect the settings box. After restoring much of what I had backed up, It seemed more like how it had been before the reset. I noticed a small icon next to the signal type and strength meter at the top which hadn't been there before the reset (a small white square with rounded edges that has a zig-zag line going through it that kind of looks like a jagged "N"). Instead of saying offline, the app says poor connection, so I will test it on my way home.. I am hopeful. It seems promising. If I have to reset again, I will deselect settings and set things up fresh; I think that will help. I am beginning to think this isn't so much about my OS or any hardware failure as it is the H2O at&t mvno being throttled or something similar. Even when I'm getting 4 bars of 4G, the maps loads very slowly.. nothing at all like it does on WiFi.
I'll post a final edit after I try it out on the ride home this evening.
