Need help with displex - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, is it ok to use brasso polish to remove scratches off my screen? if not what should I use?
Thanks

NO Dont use Brasso
Hi
Never use brasso at all, as it contains grit in micro amounts. Use a product call Displex or google search mobile display scratch remover.
Also use a cotton bud to remove the scratch. If its a deep scratch, this will take time, and do not use toilet paper to clean the screen. use a glass lint cloth. When you get it fixed, buy a screen protector...

Brasso is a metal polish.. but i can see why you have asked as i googled and found a few people using it but can't say i would ever use it. I would use something like Displex Display Polish can find a few people selling on eBay.
Edit:
Doh totally didn't read Russpattaya's post.

Hi H3aly
Goood quote too, wow use brasso? **** I did once, totaly destroyed my screen. I now know by that big mistake, but as usual people buy expensive mobiles, but cannot be bothered to get a couple of quid screen protector.
A well live and learn.

Oh man I'm trying it and it's not working. Even for smaller scratches. I'm doing it for 3min but then it feels like it's dry. Should I do it longer?
Thanks

Yes it takes time, but there are more options if you require them, at your own risk

[Q] Rainx on gorilla screen

I read on another forum that someone applies rainx on the screen to eliminate finger prints and feels much more smooth when it toughs.
This's what he says: "thought i would post this in case it helps anybody - the smudges on the screen were driving me crazy i put rainx on the screen just now and it works great no fingerprints when you touch the screen and it also feels much more smooth"
I haven't tried it yet but I was wondering that since the rainx has an antifreeze compound, whether if it's safe to use it on the gorilla glass for the long run?
EDIT:
According to their manufacture website, the key ingredient in the rainx windshield washer is Methanol or simply alcohol.
Read manufacture website here: http://www.recochem.com/files/downloads/RecoDIYWindshieldEN.pdf
Read wiki on the methanol here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanol
So it seems ok to use it on the gorilla glass if it helps to reduce the fingerprints. By the way, I apply it on my tf and it helps a lot.
I use it and have done for a while. It's fine.
wow we learn something new everyday sounds good thanks for the info it was driving me crazy as well it catches fingerprints more than the ipad but this works great.
Clever idea, I like it! Will have to give it a try myself, thanks for sharing
Hmmm interesting, never thought about doing that
gonna give this a shot tomorrow

Which version --- there appears to be several.

hehe, what do you guys do with your TFs? i use a dry microfiber cloth and it's clean. or if the fingerprints are a bit stubborn, wet microfiber cloth.
I don't need a signature.
This has been posted here before. It works well on the TF and any pad with glass screen, You should not use it on non glass screens. Rain-x and a micro cloth will do wonders.
Tried it tonight. Worked very well. Using it on my evo and tf101

Good idea but i'm wondering if the rainx would cause any damage to the screen or even harm our body/fingers since we would be touching on the screen often, which means we're touching on the rainx chemical itself
where did you see that it had an anti freeze compound in it? I haven't seen that any where

I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here but the OP was talking about prevention and cutting down on the fingerprints, not cleaning them off.
Sometimes when I read forums on the net I get the distinct impression that some people just need to show off. Again no offense meant but the OP clearly meant prevention and not just wiping off fingerprints.
Not adding to the discussion about an idea is called trolling.
Thanks for the tip OP, going to try it tomorrow.

Give it a shot. Buy it at walmart or something similar tho, autozone upcharges rainx by about 3 bucks. I know, i bought mine there. LoL.
How often do you guys reapply the rain-x? just curious to see how long it lasts on there while being touched every day.
I posted this in another thread talking about the rain-x.
When I read things like this, the first thing that comes to my mind is always - "if this works so well, why would it not come like this" - because there has to be a reason. Pre-coating the glass in this way would not cost hardly anything, so there must be a reason that gorilla does not do it.
- Is there maybe some long-term reaction that happens over an extended period that could damage the screen?
- Does it cause halos in sunlight?
- Like others mentioned - is this compound safe to have on your fingers all the time, and perhaps get on your food? People aren't usually touching the outside of their car windshield all the time.
Anyway those are a few things i would think about. All in all, I'd be careful.
Read the ingredients on the bottle then decide. You should not be soaking the screen in Rain-x. two drops spread around will be sufficient. DON'T put on non-glass screens.

I'm pretty sure apple precoats their iphones with something (not rainx). Also, you say it would cost next to nothing, but i bet buying thousands of gallons of something that isnt really needed would be a bit costly.

[Q] Is it possible to get scratches out of my phone?

It really makes me sad when I get a scratch on the screen of my lovely SGS2. I do have a few surface scratches which are totally natural when it comes to wear and tear but this time I got a single scratch that is VERY evident.
So I'm wondering, is there any way of getting rid of it (new screen (if so links), technique, etc) or do I just brush it off my shoulder and deal with it?
I have applied a screen protector to ensure no further scratching but yeah, any help will be appreciated and I will thank good and valuable advice.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, I don't think you can get scratches out of your phone!
I have one on my screen and have tried by brushing it several times and it just does not work.
I'm wondering whether you can buy a new screen for the I9100..

Im pretty sure you can get a scratch remover from ebay. I think it's a liquid that you just rub on the screen and it removes the scratch

I tried rubbing it to make sure it wasn't a piece of dust haha! I guess I should just be more careful next time :/!
I will search eBay for any screens as that may be a solution!
well, depends on the depth of scratch. some scratches on glass can be polished by jeweller but personally I don't think you'd find anybody who would do it good enough. surface would have to be perfectly even.
another way is applying protective shields - some of them lower the visibility of a scratch.
definitely the best method is front cover change. unfortunately you cannot change it without touch panel and screen altogether. be aware of adverts about front glass only. touch panel is applied to glass, screen to touch panel - i see no way that you'd change glass only without destroying the rest. I don't know how are the prices in UK but where I come from the full set (cover+glass+touch panel+screen) is about 100EUR...
(as I know links to shops are not allowed)
changing it yourself is a piece of cake.
Sadly, the honest answer is no. A scratch is more than a mere blemish... you have technically gouged material out of the surface of your screen. The only way to truly remove the scratch would be to buff the entire screen down to the deepest point of the scratch, which would effectively ruin it. Replacing your screen is the only true option.
There are solvents you can apply to reduce the appearance of the scratch for a time, and thats what most of the liquids you will find online are.
(Edit: I'm not sure most of those solvents would work on normal glass, let alone gorilla glass. Those are generally geared more towards plastics.)

BUT forget about all above because definitely the best method is front cover change - you'll find a lot of these on the net and it's not so expensive.

you're too fast, I'm too slow - I had to edit the post that it wouldn't make a mess.
such a thing is just the one I mentioned to avoid.
I meant cheap because in Croatia i9100 is still about 500-700EUR. changing screen for 100EUR seems not so much then...
forgive me if I confused you by posting too fast and not the full info.
here's the link showing disassembling of sgs2. it's korean version but step by step it's the same:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QKztg1ra4-0
and YES - this will void your warranty. if you still have warranty unfortunately it make no sense for you to do anything yourself except trying to polish it or applying screen shield. you may also ask how much it would cost at Samsung service.

Ah right I see! Well, I might as well wait until my warranty is over or just stop myself from scratching my screen up!
Thank you anyway! I don't think I'll bother even trying in the future! Haha!
well don't give up. if you don't want to spend so much money just try to find some good screen protector - i read a lot of times that some of them really works.
whatever else you try you have to be extremely carefull no to get blurred image all over your screen.

How to separate your glass screen form the digitizer

Hi all,
new to this forum, I bought an S2 off ebay for £50 with a smashed glass front but the diitizer was still fully workng so decided to see if i could save it and cut the cost of shelling out £70 on a complete screen replacement, I have purchased 2 glass front screens for just over a fiver on ebay.
Ok so I took the phone apart and left thescreen and digitizer attatched to the bezel and metal frame I posted the video on youtube check it out............waiting for my glass front screens to arrive will update when I have them.
check the link I have put on youtube my username on there is cadburyfudge ............I can't seem to put a link in thread as I am a new user........
With a hot air gun...........carefully.

Lol of courseyou will!! but you will need a better tool than a plastic credit card or plectrum to get the glue and glass apart on these!!!!!
I had to use a very thin flat leading edge scalpel blade!!
Oh sorry,I thought it was a question.
I never had my "heres someone that thinks he knows something we dont" glasses on.
Theres loads of videos showing the procedure on you tube already.

UPDATE .............
Ok everyone my adhesives arrived and glass screens...............................................pretty simple now .............just peel off the backing stick it on your phone and carefully without getting fingerprints all over the new screen place it on and press down all over...............I used a hairdryer to heat up the glass front to make sure everything was super tacky underneath the n press down all over to make sure of good adhesion.
Also make sure the lcd panel is spotless before you stick the screen on ......you don't want any bits in there between thee glass and the LCD
here is the link of the stuff and finished phone ..................http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01kdeCljfTY&feature=plcp[/URL
Phone back to working condition and screen all works as it should!!!!!!!!

Glass Replacement

So, I see only one other thread about this, but I dropped my phone (Clumsy me left it on a chair, it slid off, and spider webbed my phone(SUCH a short distance)) But, I've bought the replacement part myself, and I plan on doing the repair myself. Is there anything I should know before I actually do this? Has total disassemble of the phone been done before?
Not to hijack your thread, but it drives me nuts how my LGOG seems to seek out-on its own-a way to dive off my coffee table/sofa/end table...no matter how flat and non inclined I sit it two seconds later and...CRASH! floor time...luckily mine has been taking it ok. So I feel your pain, and hope you get the help you seek.

Whats the youtube vid name?
Maybe try some silicone glue
Maybe try some of the silicone seal (blue silicone glue) to attach it. If nothing else you might try some electronic stores (specialty or other Cell phone repair stores) for the glue that is needed. I would opt for something that isn't so hard on stuck and maybe go for something that holds tight and seals well but doesn't make it damn near impossible.

What is this? :)

Any idea what is that on my phone's screen?
Not possible to clean. only visible when the surfaces is wet..

I don't have any screen protector, the glass itself looks like deeper somewhere... ONLY IF WET.. The phone few weeks old... Its already my second s3 phone, because the first went wrong. I dont wan't to send back again... I can live with it... I just curious is someone else experienced same thing with gorilla glass?
Looks like something is wearing off the glass, seen an effect similar on a Panasonic toughbook with an early touch screen and anti-glare coating that wore away. Afaik the glass on these phones doesn't come with any protective coating so I'd try cleaning it all off, what ever it is.
Edit. Just read your post again, did you get replacement phone from Samsung or another source? Maybe replacement screen fitted with non-standard glass?
Is it inside or outside? Its hard to tell from the picture.
If inside, it could be the glass coming away from the LOCA (liquid ocular clear adhesive) that sticks the glass to the screen

I got my replacement phone from a retailer where originally i bought the first phone, but i saw strange "damages" on the phone from the very first time.. Hard to say as damage.. but for example the screen was look like dirty between glass and bezel (or some very thin white rhing was there)... another is a thin chrome-like paint layer missing on 3-4mm at the rear camera corner.. But the phone came in an original SEALED box.. so everything was look like a factory one.. I dont think the retailer shop playing with me... but this phone really looks like a refurbished. So i donno.. I was searching on the internet about gorilla glass problems but i didnt see anything like this...

its hard to say for me also.. I guess its maybe outside, and something like the glass is deeper. This all not so visible, I just noticed today and i using the phone more weeks now... I just noticed that I always see the same "pattern" when the screen a litle bit wet or has some fat on the top from my finger... If i clean it up as its possible, you cant see at all, just from certain viewpoint - also very transparent..
The picture that I uploaded is brighted up with photoshop, and i was breath on the screen.. But always the same pattern comes back.. I cant do anything.
Strange.... I can live with this problem. However I was paying the same money like anybody else who got a faultless phone...
Just realy curious, maybe someone already has same experience...
As stated earlier in the thread, I would hazard a guess it's the glass separating from the loca.
When I replaced my own glass parts looked like that as I begun the separation.

Something can be true here, because that area takes the fat faster.. If i pull over a wet paper on the screen, on this place will be more water than the other part of the screen, where just little bubbles. In this area will be a continous "water-spot"..
However i dont think i can wear down in 2-3 weeks...

Well I have seen reports of this wear popping up at fairly regular intervals.....I think, as with metals, some people's sweat/oil just reacts with the coating possibly
I thinking now: it was maybe come citric acid on my fingers at my workplace. although that must be visible almost everywhere on the screen. I used more than a year long a galaxy nexus in the same conditions. there i did never see anything like this.
i think if the coating is missing on my phone, it was missing already in the box...
do you think is that possible to replace the missing coating with any aftermarket spays? maybe i'll give a try for it if someone has experience with...

I doubt it, my advice would be to learn a lesson, put a screen protector on.......and keep it on. Personally, a screen protector is the first thing I do to any phone, along with a flip case......not to everyone's taste but I've never broken or scratched a phone yet!

All my phones was Samsung, but i getting lost my confidence with this name... I think next time i will buy something else...

I only do this with my phones in this year untill now. Suffering enough.. My prevoius phone (galaxy nexus) has an emmc bug, this is why i was trying to put another kernels, roms, etc.. finally was dead... then i bought the galaxy s3 that i used only for a day long because was stuck in earphone mode. - sending back, waiting again for another phone, now i have this.. at least works, but looks ****...
All my phones was Samsung, but i getting lost my confidence with this name... I think next time i will buy something else...

I would suspect that your 'new phone from a sealed box' was in fact a reconditioned unit with many thousands of hours use, hence why the screen coating is worn away.
Unless your citric acid solution was very strong, like you have holes in your fingers as well, I doubt this would cause it.
Again, best advise is to fit a £1 screen protector - it can save you from more than just scratches.
