Like the title says who got a working N connection with the 101. I can only connect at 54. Using a netgear WNDR3700 router and WPA2 AES

I'm in the exact same position. My N1 and my eeePC both connect at speeds greater than 54mbps, but the A101 will not go any higher than 54mbps...
I was running a speedtest compare between my Evo and the 70i and noticed a big difference in speed, ~3Mb in favour of the Evo. Also noticed that its only connecting at g and not n. Is there some sort of governing going on?

does you router use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz for n? what does the archos support?
My router is 2.4-2.5 ghz running DD-WRT. I checked the tech specs on Archos page but I don't see any info on what frequency they are using, just says it supports WiFi b/g/n.

The Archos is 2.4 GHz only. However that doesn't matter, because I have both 2.4 and 5 GHz on my netgear WNDR3700. All my other devices with N are connecting at N speed to it.
I think the problem is the wifi driver from the archos, unless someone can show me that he is connected at N speed with his archos.

I only have 5 GHZ N AP so I had to hook up a 2.4 GHZ "N" router that I have, but it is not really N, could never get 300Mbps connectoin on my laptop, but i get 54Mbps on the Archos, it seems fast enough to me.

Does the Gtab not support wireless N? Or is it Vegan5.1? I have a linksys WRT610N and I have my b/g on the 2.4Ghz and N on the 5Ghz but my Gtab doesn't pick the N SSID. Anyone know why this is?

Nope, its got nothing to do with the rom you are running. The G-Tab is hardware limited to wireless G, no N. I was a little dissapointed by that too when I researched it to buy, but frankly G is fine for streaming vids, music, etc.
Most N routers support dual mode for legacy G devices so I'd suggest turning this on. Additionally if your router does not broadcast its SSID you'll have to manually type it in when setting up the wireless connection on your tab...

My upstairs router is a WRT610N. My GTab works fine with it. The Gtab comes with a single wireless radio (does not support MIMO) that supports the Wireless-N (802.11n) draft standard.
The Gtab will only see the 2.4GHz band, not the 5GHz band.

I have my routers on the 2.4GHz band setup for Wireless-N only, and my Gtab connects to them just fine. Both on my E4200 and my WRT610N.

Yeah, I only see 72Mbit/second, but someone else reported that they saw 270 Mbit/second connecting to their Netgear router.
I agree with you. I haven't seen the throughput, especially during large file transfers.
So once again the marketing monster strikes. Clearly states wireless N but only in the 2.4 Ghz range. That's fine just wanted to be sure there wasn't something I was missing. Thanks to everyone who replied.

N doesnt specify any frequency.
True but when anyone sets up a wireless N router on the 5GHz band only...it will not be found by the G-Tablet. I have mine set up with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz so all of my equipment is covered.
I'm using the WRT310N and I have mine set to Wireless N only.

Hell, if you live in an area where you can use all 14 2.4GHz channels you can even connect on channel 14. A lot less interference.
My gTab can see my N-network but it disconnect immideatly after I try to connect. I have 2 routers; 1 upstairs with N only, an done downstairs with both N & G. I'm mostly upstairs but I have to connect to the G-router which only gives me one bar.. But it works just fine, although full speed N would have been nice for Winamp Wifi-sync and transfering Movies etc
Mine connects to DLink Dir655 2.4Ghz rounter using N protocol but gTab radio definitely not a MIMO one.
Best download speed is about 2.7 - 3.0 MByte per second when using FTP, and only 1.9 - 2.0 MByte per second when using SMB protocol.
My laptop can get upload/download speeds around 9-10 MByte per second using same router and 2.4Ghz MIMO N wireless card.

I tried N on my evo a while back and thought it sucked my battery down compare to G. My N network shows up fine on my 3D although I haven't tested it cause G is plenty fine for the 3D. Plus I get excellent battery life leaving wi-fi on G and don't really need the speed bump going to N. I don't think N will work on 5Ghz though. My ipad2 will see a 5Ghz N network but not my evo. So if your N is on 5Ghz it won't even show up in your list, at least it didn't for me.
I get between 65 and 72 mbps with my 3D on my 4G i was topping off at 54mbps.
That really is too bad... I thought I remembered having read somewhere that the 802.11 chipset in the 3D supported 5Ghz..? If that's the case I would be curious if a different firmware or driver might be able to enable use of the 5Ghz spectrum.

My ipod touch 4th gen won't see a 5Ghz N network either. I ended up switching my N network back to 2.4 since hardly anything even sees a 5Ghz network.
The evo3d does support n but only on a 2.4ghz signal. Your router must be set to that signal in order to use it. It will not see 5ghz ssid. I average 78 to 94 mbps on wifi. Hope this helps.

I could be standing right next to the router and not get better than a 11 mbps rate when the cable service is 25 mbps (and the computer reaches that high). Why would that be? I looked in all the Linksys settings and cant see what could be changed.

I believe so. My routers settings page shows mixed mode b, g and n and all of the other settings seem to be set to auto.
I also toggled "best wi-fi performance" as well to see if there was a difference. None.

802.11n on the 2.4 side, might be talking slower because you have a slower device connected? (maybe an old iPhone, or old laptop or something?)
If that doesn't work, take off mixed mode, and set it only to n, or at least G and N.

Anything else that is connected is either G or N. The router settings dont allow mixed n/g only b/g, figures...

Well you might have to invest in a different router. Your router needs to be set at 2.4ghz in order for the 3d to see the ssid and connect. Otherwise it will only see the g. Try updating your routers firmware and see if that might help. Also call the tech support or check the routers website to see if it supports 2.4ghz

Thank you for the help. Looks like there is no firmware upgrade as it it a draft 802.11 n router. Time for a new one... :-/

Not a bad thing. A netgear 3500 dualbad will only set you back about 170 + warranty of course. But look at it like this do it now and its over. Got mine from bestbuy with a 4yr warranty. With this router you can have multiple networks setup. I have the 5ghz for my 3 desktops and my laptop which support the signal. Then I have the 2.4ghz n just for the 3d. Then I also have a guest network for friends who visit and want to connect which is a,b,g or n. You can configure the networks as you see fit. Its a great investment imo and with the 4yr warranty you covered. Hope this helps.

Yeah the EVO 3D does not support 5ghz N Band.....at least it doesn't detect mine.
Does any phone out support 5 GHz wireless n? I'm not positive but I don't think so. And even if it does what ISP has speeds that even come close to the speeds available in that spectrum? I have 5 GHz n on my computer and yes it performs better on speed tests than my 3D but Time Warner isn't selling 300 Mbps service. My 3D and my OG EVO both cap out at 72 Mbps which I attribute to "good neighbor" mode in 2.4 GHz which basically never let's you use channel bonding that is required for higher speeds. That being said 72 Mbps is more than sufficient for anything I'm doing on my phone especially considering my service is only 15/2 Mbps. On a separate note I did notice the Samsung 10.1 tab does support 5 GHz.

Is the N on a separate chip in the 3vo? I don't understand how N would suck the battery faster than G. I thought N was more efficient than G.

Don't forget the 3D can act as a dlna server si you can use more speed.
I was wondering if any prime owners tryed to connect on a N-Only wifi?? on the box it says a/b,g,n wireless but when i try to set my wifi to N-Only, i can see the network but theirs no way the prime is connecting to it. I have to switch it back to either Mixed or G/N Mixed, and then im able to connect with a max connectivity with router of 54mbps. This problem was present before and after ICS update, my router is a Asus RT-N12 (tryed with stock firmware, updated stock firmware and with DDWRT). I Would like to know if any of you guys tryed this out I feel i'v been kinda scammed

RT-N12 is operating on 2.4ghz and does not support 5ghz. Are you sure you are in "N-Only" mode or are you in "Mixed"??
This has been discussed in great detail in general section. Its known Prime can't connect to 5Ghz. set it to 2.5 or G only. G only seems tl yield best results. also check this article out..might help.

Yes so far I am very disappointed. I just got the Prime today and it immediately updated to ICS. Once that was done I started checking out the wifi ability right away, because of all the bad reports all over the internet. Much to my surprise, mine doesn't see my wireless N either. I had the TF101 prior and it worked fine with my router. My Samsung E4GT phone sees it just fine, and what really hurts is my wife's iPad 2 sees it, connects to it and pulls just under 20mbps speeds.
To say this sucks is an understatement. I hate losing to Apple in any way, and here I am with the latest and greatest Android tablet, and being punked by a nearly year old IOS device.

What do you stream over 5ghz network to iPad? 1080p movies? It redundant...just turn down to 2.4 and everyone is happy.
Having a technically higher spec which does not improve on daily usage is redundant.

Exactly, the prime doesn't support the 5Ghz frequency. Only supports 2.5ghz N or whatever. There's only a few tablets that do actually support 5ghz. All it takes is a simple change n it'll work. THE whole argument that it should work on any network is b.s. Especially if you have it set to something not supported. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
I've always used N-Only. I get a decent connection to my Transformer Prime with it too.
Mines is the cheap Belkin N150 router so I doubt it does that 5Ghz range as that seem like a setting for a higher priced N router.

Point 1: Your are in the US, so you are not allowed using anything except 1-11 by FCC regulations.
Point 2: N-Only often turns on channel bonding in soho equipment like yours, so it needs 8 full channels to use it properly. Each channel is 5 MHz apart from the other and a WiFi device uses channels in a/b/g that are 20 MHz wide, in 11n with channel bonding (which is an optional feature for the high data rates) they use channels of 40 MHz. So dividing the 40 Mhz by 5 Mhz makes using of channel 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7. If you would live in Japan, on only country that is allowed to use channel 14. So for US it would be channel 11-4. This explains why channel bonding in the 2.4 GHz band is a band ides unless you are living in a big ranch 500 feet away from the next WiFi router.

I spent the extra money to purchase a dual band router, so I could broadcast N and G as two separate signals. As I understand it, if you broadcast both on a single signal, and you have some older devices that require and connect to the G band, it will automatically cut the speed back, to whatever the slowest device connected is capable of. At least that is the way it was explained to me. So the N was on 5ghz and G was on 2.4ghz. It has always worked with any other wireless N device I have had, until I got this "latest and greatest" tablet. So yes now I have downgraded my wireless network to only 1 band, to accommodate the Prime.

If you have 2.4ghz g network, prime should be able to detect it. Check if your dual band is working properly...
Wireless n is impt only if you stream HD movies. I stream music on g with no problem at all.
I know you feel frustrated, and I know it sucks as prime is supposed to be PRIME. If you intend to stream HD movies to prime you may have to "down grade" to 2.4ghz if not wireless N is kind of overrated or "miss used" as I see no use of having to stream HD to non HD devices. If you are a home theater enthusiastic or business it then wireless n 5mhz is a must.
Hope you can move on to appreciate the quad core of prime than dwelling on this issue.

I would think a major limitation would be because the wifi chip + antenna are SISO not MIMO. It could also be a compatibility issue between wireless chipset in the gt-i9300 and the router

i tried to setup my wifi in different ways, but no luck..
maximum connection i can reach is 72Mbps
Does any one manage to get higher connection between SGS3 and wifi router 802.11n ?

With my netgear wndr3700 I can connect at 150mbps

o.k. so is possible that i have something wrong with my cisco E4200 router..
so SGS3 have only single-stream ?
because my router for 450Mbps have to use all tree-streams..

now i will flash ddwrt firmware to see if is there any difference

I get 75mbs on 2.4ghz wireless n and 150mbs on 5.0 wireless n.
cisco E1500 -
Cisco e1500 with ddwrt big
it has only 2.4Ghz and all get 72mbps...max.. G/N or only-N - same results
it's advertised like 300Mbps...

still didn't found out how can i get 450mbps on samsung galaxy s3...or at least 300mbps...
on e4200 i set up only wireless N on 40MH channel...and wpa2 pre...

As mentioned by xtechx, this is a chipset limitation. You'll just have to live with it since it only has a single antenna (meaning it supports about half of the maximum transmission speed of your router for Wireless N), as with most mobile wifi chipsets. Though if I remember correctly, the HTC One supports MIMO (full wifi speeds)

Thanks for the tip!! My Wifi speed according to the SpeedTest app is now 20Mbps which is twice what they were before turning off power save mode. However, they are still no where near what others are reporting for max speeds on the SG3

Wireless devices are built to operate at given speeds.
Common Android device connection speeds are 54Mbits/sec(802.11g), 65Mbits/sec, 72Mbits/sec, 150Mbits/sec(5GHz).
As WiFi is half-duplex, you will never see 'real' data throughput at the listed connection speed.
At very best, you'll probably only see ⅔ the connection speed.
The connection speed is often dictated by the number of antennas a device has and generally max'd out at 150Mbit/sec on 2.4GHz frequency due to 20MHz channel allocation limit, where 40MHz channel allocation is not encouraged.
5GHz frequency connection speeds are generally higher as 5GHz is based on 40MHz channel width.
I have a Sony XPERIA M (C1905) with dual band (2.4GHz/5GHz) WiFi.
5GHz has a connection speed of 150Mbits/sec.
Over 5GHz it has a bandwidth throughput of 109Mbits/sec in an optimal environment.
5GHz is a higher frequency than 2.4GHz so it will not have the same signal strength of 2.4GHz at distance.(trade-off)
If you really want to test WiFi throughput on an Android device, you have to use iPerf for Android and then install a Windows/linux version of iPerf on a NAS/PC.
This will provide true maximum bandwidth/throughput available to your Android device in a LAN where your testing servers should not bottleneck the Android device you are testing.
Because of the channel allocation, you have to have a 802.11ac router if your Android device supports 802.11ac to obtain the max. 802.11ac throughput.
I am using tp-link tl-mr3220 Wireless N router which is advertised at 150Mbps speeds. When I connect my acer laptop, the speed shows at 150Mbps on wifi card. But when I connect my SE xperia ray the speed shown is only 72Mbps. Why is that? Do I need to modify something?

Xperia Ray most likely does not have support for anything above 72Mbps.
And to be realistlic, you will only see a difference, if your ISP provides you with internet of 72Mbps or higher.

I dont know if there is any ISP which provides 72Mbps. Its the lan speed of your internal network created using router. If so, how can laptop show 150Mbps?
I was just curious to know if there is any mod solution for it.

Hmm...when you connected you laptop to your router using LAN it will use the full speed of that router (150Mbps) but if you connect it using Wifi (laptop, pc or phone) the speed is cut in haft (72Mbps)....
there no way to modified it cause all router has the same spec for LAN (full speed) and Wifi (haft connection) connection....

WiFi has the possibility for 150Mbps as well.
This cannot be modified, as this is a hardware level idea, thereby editing software will not increase.
Nevertheless, as said already, this speed only indicates to speed between your device (phone/laptop) and router. The real connection speed depends on your ISP and how fast internet it provides you with.

On what things the wifi signal capturing of the phone depends? hardware, kernel, modules?
My ray stops detecting wifi signal of my router if I move away only 10 feet. No problem with laptop, detects till 50 feet.
I flashed all kernels including stock and all modules available on forums. I am using TP link router.
My friend is having nokia n8 and belkin router at his home. His N8 detects wifi signal even beyond 50 feet. He was laughing at me because my ray couldnt detect the signal while sitting in living room and router placed in bedroom.
