Hi, I flashed Nero V1 last night and flashed Super I/O kernel just now. But I want to try out Supercurio's JL4 + Voodoo kernel. How do I switch? Do I just flash it on top?
Also, since Nero V1 is JL1, would it be a better idea to flash the JL1 + Voodoo instead of JL4 + Voodoo kernel?
Good question

As long as u havent installed a lag fix u can flash them over the old one

As long as you don't have voodoo installed you can *usually* flash a new kernel over any old one as long as their version compatible (2.2 kernel with 2.2 rom) but go for it.

Okay I have a rooted stock ji6 with lagfix and no clockwork recovery with jacs kernel no voodoo....if I flash the stock kernel that team whiskey posted will it not brick my phone

No it won't. As long as you're not running voodoo, you're good to go. Flash away!!! Might I recommend flashing Onyx 4, it's absolutely amazing
complete noob. just started yesterday
I have odin installed on my computer but I plan on only using it if I brick the phone. been using rom manager and have so far tried nero beta 3 and then nero v1 and currently downloading nero v2. Is there any advantages to using odin rather than rom manager? rom manager is just so easy it's spoiled me.
also I'm downloading nero v2 right now and this version is with voodoo. the devs said a non voodoo version will be available but that voodoo is faster. why would you not want voodoo than? what are the disadvantages of voodoo? what is voodoo?
can nero 2 voodoo be installed with rom manager?
U can find all this out in the bible, which I suggest reading, but yes u can flash nero v2 with rom manager

So I started out with 2.1 stock on my vibrant, and used clockwork mod recovery to flash nero v3 w/ voodoo, before doing this I created a backup in rom manager of my entire system while still on 2.1, if I wanted to return to 2.1 I would just disable lagfix and restore backup in rom manager right?

First one question.....Why would u ever want to go back to 2.1?
I usually just skip ROM manager all together and go directly into CWR. Then select Back up and Restore then scroll down to Restore option. Then select what u want to retore. Its pretty self explanatory once u get into CWR.

You will need to flash your 2.1 kernel as well as a nandroid backup doesn't backup the kernel.
Nero V3 w/ Voodoo is super duper silky smooth. I would never think about flashing back to 2.1 nanadroid from it. I forgot about the kernal.
Ya, I don't want to, but eventually, lol, when official 2.2 comes out, I wanna get that, so even if I just rooted, then used rom manager to flash nero, my kernel is now permanently changed? How would I change that back if it wasn't saved in rom managers backup?

why use your backup, why not just odin back to jfd?

Lot of people answering your question with another question.
Sano said it right...you're fine to restore your backup AS LONG AS you also flash a 2.1 kernel separately since nandroid doesn't back up the kernel.
So how do I flash kernels?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
Same way you flash a rom with clockwork.
Where do you get a stock firmware

Just flashing nero v3 rom changed my kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
Yes cause the kernel are different in 2.1 and 2.2, which Nero is. U have to flash a 2.1 kernel if u want to use that nandroid.

So would you flash the 2.1 kernel before or after downgrading, also where would I get a stock 2.1 kernel
Sent from my SGH-T959 running nero v3 in XDA app
First get the kernel from the bible put it on your phone . Once you have the cwm flashable kernel just nandroid back then before rebooting flash the kernel .

Thanks ill try that once official 2.2 come out

I have my phone running axura 2.1, my baseband is t959uvjk6, 2.2 firmware, and kernel version 2.6.32.9. I tried twice to install Voodoo Lagfix using the Update.zip method and after reboot i hear the voice saying compelete but the phone just stays on the 'Samsung Vibrant' screen.
What am i doing wrong ?
Which voodoo are you using? I hope its not jac's oc/uv one from a few months ago. Thats a 2.1 kernel and will never work on a 2.2 rom. Make sure you use one of the ones in supercurios thread for voodoo 5.x

@OP
that will really take some time. how many minutes did you wait? and yeah you should look at supercurio's thread

This happened to me using the one from oclf. My solution was to wipe phone and install nero v3. That worked out. Check out supercurios voodoo thread.

Download kernel + voodoo from supercurio. The thread is here in the dev section or bible.

It was voodoo beta4 I believe.. But I like axura and would love voodoo lag fix.. So what should I install and how?
I flashed Bionix 1.3.1 and noticed that there are a few app's (like the bln and voodoo control)
I was wanting to flash the overclocked kernal to mess around with those apps. I've got it downloaded and its on my phone.
Do I just flash the kernal like i would flash a theme or a rom. Do I have do disable anything like voodoo.

Yes, to the first part of your question. No, to the second part of your question as long as you choose a kernel with voodoo LF already enabled.

You got it, just flash it like you'd flash a rom.
Better read each kernel's OP. But you can flash any kernels listed in Bionix-v 1.3.x (overstock.., categorically.., dragon, DOW) on top your ROM's kernel with voodoo enabled without disable it. But if you want to flash Dead Horse kernel, you should prefer to disable voodoo or any lagfixes before, and then you can configure again later to ext4, jfs, or other. Otherwise you may experience strange self reboot, wipe SD and abrupt broken user apps, as i did. Anyway, all have BLN and voodoo sound as you expected.
Good luck.
Thanks all for the info flashed the overstock kernal in like 5 seconds (minus the boot time) with no hiccups
So what exactly does a kernal do to the phone?

Kernel deals with low level operations on the phone - it's like an interface between the rest of the android system and the phone hardware. That's why you need a new kernel for things like BLN.

I have another kernal related question
I want to flash a new rom (trigger by edt) I currently am using Bionix 1.3.1 and i currently have the overstock 2.0 kernal installed
My question is do I just flash the rom over the kernal or are there special steps involved.
