I read that DRM related services suck up a lot of juice.
If you don't use these, freeze two(2) start with DRM* and the MediaHub app.
Or give Axura 2.2 (Search for it) a try, it gives me the best battery life.

Wifi calling if you have it, usually uninstalling wifi calling screws with things so just freeze that if you have it. And usually any other bloatware such as default samsung apps like the Email and Allshare and crap like that.

I only froze a few of apps.
Anything with DRM
Media Hub
All Share
Anything with bluetooth (I don't use them)
Daily briefing
Samsung Keypad
Samsung apps
Swype
Voice Recorder
Voice Search
Anyone know which system apps/processes I can freeze without screwing with the phone too much?

[Q] How to stop some apps from starting up without deleting them

I have some apps that I don't want to remove from my Streak but I don't want them to start up on their own. Examples are Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Mail. There are others, too. I keep them on the Streak as backups (since I sometimes have problems connecting via IM+ or the regular e-mail app). Therefore I only want them to start up when I open them and stay closed after I have killed them. Is that possible?
I currently use Droid Wall to deny them data access when I don't want to use them but they still run in the background eating up memory and sucking the life out of my battery.
Dont know of anything other than a task killer. Can set the security to your desired level, and also to kill everything when the screen turns off, and also generate an ignore list which is essential for some apps like alarm clock....if you want to get up for work on time. They're a little controversial but I find a notable difference in battery life without it.

I have a task killer which I use manually. However, when I kill those apps they come right back up only seconds after that. Can't keep those buggers down. And with Auto Kill they are just constantly being killed again and again.
i used to use an app called "autostart(s)" which did the job really well plus it offers loads of options for apps starting at boot and permissions. titanium lets you freeze apps but you need to defrost them before using again.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I am currently trying out Autostart Kill which seems to work reasonably well, except that some apps are not found by the program (an example is Amazon MP3) and Dell Sync comes up after connecting via USB even though I set it to disabled.
By Titanium I suppose you mean Titanium Backup, but I cannot find a "freeze" (or similar) option, at least not in the free version I am using
Click the app in the list - you will have there freeze option.
It is available in the paid version only
Thanks for all the help, guys.
Finally located that Autostarts app in the market --- had to set market enabler to Verizon to find it. Trying it right now, and it seems to work pretty well.
I hope they're working for you?

Yes, but yesterday I had 3 mysterious auto reboots. Since I had just installed several apps I am not sure which one is the culprit. I have removed some of the others. Now I will have to see what happens today.
i tried autostarts but when the streak goes standby (black screen) it wont come alive anymore and i have to pull the battery out to reboot.... uninstalled

Thank you! Autostarts is what I want~
Try system tuner
System tuner has free version in market. Will perform many functions including "freeze" and then you can "boil" app when it is needed. Also can set which apps run (or don't) at startup.
hey bro, u can use any autostart killer like autostarts (red car), or u can use autostart disabler inside romtoolbox
it work 100%

List of freezable apps (updated 11/18 7:00 pm EST, many apps added)

For as long as I've been a member here, I don't think I've ever started two threads in one day in a Dev section that I was so unsure belonged in the dev section... so Mods, please forgive if this is in the wrong place.
I thought it would be helpful to get a running list of apps that can be frozen with Titanium that won't cause any FC's or other problems. I'm a bit extreme with this, I think, compared to most... I tend to freeze (or remove) a LOT of stuff.... but so far I haven't caused any problems. Here is my list:
Amazon Kindle
Backup Assistant
Blockbuster
Books
Car Panel
com.htc.footprints.widget3d
Connected Media
Facebook
Facebook Chat Widget
Facebook for HTC Sense
Fb Chat
Flickr
Footprints

Vcast Media Manager

So far, so good. And I've little doubt that much more can be removed... on my Dinc, I always ran a Sense ROM, but I'd run them REALLY lean. I will be experimenting more with what can be removed and will update the list as I do...
EDIT: Froze quite a few more apps, still no FC's or other issues, here are the additional ones...
App Sharing
Archive Viewing
Data Dashboard (this is a widget)
Data Roaming (this is a widget)

Good looking out! Looks like i can freeze a couple more!
Thanks for testing all of that and posting the list.

Do these apps re-install after a reboot like others are reporting with temp root or does "freezing" have better results than deleting?
Freezing them sticks after reboots. It is almost as good as removing them.
But OP, you really went to town on the freezing.
Thanks for testing these! Appreciated.

hahah I said in the first post, I freeze a LOT of stuff. You can freeze as few or as many of those apps as you need, I just wanted to guinea pig it and see what would crash, so far no issues.
As mentioned above, freezing DOES stick after a reboot. However, unlike freezing on a fully rooted device, freezing here doesn't remove the apps' market links, and doesnt remove them from the apps list in settings. It DOES remove them from the app drawer and keep them from running, which is what matters
I just tried to freeze apps with "Bloat Freezer Free" and most of the apps came back after a reboot. Is everyone else using Titanium? Does it "freeze" apps differently?
Thanks!
I've only ever used Titanium to freeze apps but you need the pro version. WELL worth the money, this app has proven very useful.
Added almost 20 more apps...
I need to have temp root going to make this happen, right?
I'm on a Mac. Loving the rezound so far even without root .
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
yep must have temp root and using Titanium or something equivalent
I'm moving this to the App section since it is more related to that section.
Thanks for this list, but have you tried removing any, if possible?
Bluetooth busted?
Trying to troubleshoot it but I froze most of the apps from your first list but noticed this afternoon I could not get my Bluetooth to turn on. Could be a coincidence but any chance freezing one of those apps could cause that?
trying to get mine to temp root it self would cause BT to quit working
reboot would fix it most of the time
I don't think any of the apps I listed would cause BT to stop working. I did try to remove an app once and it crashed Titanium. I figure without S-OFF that's not going to be happening any time soon, since we can't get the /system/ folder mounted in R/W.
Thanks for this. I loaded my own task manager and I couldn't believe all the junk that autostarts on boot. This cut down on that signficantly!
Now I just can't wait for a debloated ROM to come out.

You can use App Quarantine:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ramdroid.appquarantine
Free and does the same thing -- I've used it on my Rezound (I have Titanium Backup as well, but this has a lighter footprint and our temp root is finicky).

[Q] any harm in removing stock browser, and other apk's in TIB?

So i use dolphin HD as my main browser, and whenever it updates i have to set as default all over again.
Id rather just remove the stock browser, as i never use it anyway, but will this end up giving me problems?
In addition, there are other apps that i dont need, and would also like to remove, such as:
email - i use gmail, so i dont need it
car home
music – I use google music – so no need for the stock music app
news and weather – don’t use – don’t want it to update in the background
homescreen tips
setup wizard
tts service
google talk
cmstats
sound recorder
fota kill??
Fm radio
There are usually more – but im running CM – so less crap
i like the minimum installed, and if i can lose some of these i will. Im also worried some are affecting battery life.
Freeze them first, then use it normally for a couple of days, if nothing weird happens, then remove them.

sounds good. Will try it.
But from experience, has anyone had any problems uninstalling the apps i listed? especially the ones in bold.
I have had my stock browser removed for a while and have not run into any issues. I also use Dolphin as my main browser
I've removed about 80% of your list in the OP with no issues.
Shouldn't have any problem. The suggestion to freeze it first is a good idea. When you decide to remove an app, just move the apk from system/app to somewhere on your sd. Makes it a lot easier to put it back, should you decide to.

[q] music app keeps turning on itself

searched for this, not here.
ok, im on stock t-mobile galaxy s2. my stock music app keeps accessing my phone. ive never used it. there is no music on my phone. i notoced because my battery life started draining faster than usual. saw it was running, killed it. it keeps coming back. any ideas how to stop it from accessing the phone at all? thanks!
I froze it using titanium backup because of the same thing. (Must be rooted and only paid version can freeze) otherwise app called quarantine or something can do it for free.
I haven't bothered to look into why it runs because I use poweramp so I don't need it.
Actually there are plenty of apps that run without you wanting them to so freezing bloatware is worth it.

Another option is to download gemini app from market and configure the music apps auto run. If u disable it from auto running it wont open itself. Saves u from freezing and unfreezing if u want to use it some time.

Is it better to update bloatware,

or ignore it?
if it's bloat. why not freeze it? or outright remove it?
What "bloat" are you talking about specifically?
The junk Verizon put on my phone...navigator, books, movies, etc. If I freeze them, will it effect some other application or function of the phone...sort of like the pop up warns when I tried to disable Navigator?
Also, I have 2 Backup Assistant Plus applications and 2 S Memos.
Freeze all of it....
