Well of course running any other launcher rather than the one pre-defined as default will burn more battery because you're indeed running a 3rd party application as your launcher. Although, I've always ran LP or Zeam and they never kill battery as you might expect...

I use Zeam also, it seems to treat my battery life well. And the dock fits 6 items!

I'm not sure how you can say it definitly uses more battery.... when I check my battery stats, LP is never a culprit of drain. Try it, see if you notice a difference.

Agreed, LP never shows in battery stats and there's absolutely no logical reason to assume a 3rd party launcher would use more than TWlauncher.

I've got 7 dock icons, at one time on mine, one of my fav features. Zeam is a very nice and simple launcher.

I can agree with this too. Eventually when You get rooted, you can actually make it so Twiz Launcher isn't running in the background and only LP if you decide to go that route. I've noticed no excessive battery drain related to LP.

[Q] ADW EX Battery Drain!

Hello. I recently installed ADW EX home replacement and have noticed my battery being eaten alive! I unplugged it at 100% at 11am and with very minimal use (No wifi, no 3G, no Bluetooth etc...) and by 4pm I was at 60%. Without ADW I would still be in the 80's at least.
Has anyone expirenced this? Is this normal? Why would a new launcher drain my battery?
Thanks.

Yep. I concur. I noticed this also. Pretty snazzy adw but I went back to. LP instead.
Thanks. Crappy thing is I paid $3.50 for it and ony had 15 min to get a refund.... fail. lol
I'm not noticing that at all. What rom/setup are you using? Nero v3 + voodoo for me.
Well Im not rooted so the whole phone is stock. I would like to know how to root and make the tweaks tho. Is that what I need to do? Now Im at 43% without hardly using it in the past 6 hrs.
Check my signatures for guides that I wrote. The noob guide is where I would start.
I see a major problem with this policy.

At times it appears to be buggy, when you move your finger over the app drawer button and it slips out..... That button is toasted.
You have to create a short cut to get back into the app drawer and the settings button from the hardware key is no longer available.
Yes I too wished that I had more than 15 minutes to evaluate the software.
I do pay for other apps in the market, like the rom manager pro, root explorer.
Under this new 15 min policy the end users are stuck with more crap apps that do not perform tasks as advertised such as ..."SystemApp remover"...
I see a major problem with this policy.

No battery drain here. I am running Nero V3 with voodoo and live wallpaper. Very smooth with a quadrant score of 1567. No complaints here.

No problems whatsoever here either.
Using Nero v3 voodoo enabled with solid battery life.
Loving ADW EX.
I didn't want to say it... but I may be a victim to. After running some tests w/ and w/o, far better battery life w/o ADWEX. Nero3 w/voodoo

Waiting for an update before I start using this full-time. There are alot of bugs thus far and it still should not have been given a release outside of a beta. The stock GB launcher that came with Nero v3 runs much smoother.
Nero v3 with voodoo n my battery is great. 12hrs plus with heavy use.... downloading, wifi, 3g, text, calling, and wordfued.

I noticed not only battery drain but extreme lag, especially when pressing the home button, which is set to only take me to my home screen. I noticed these problems while running nero v3 with voodoo enabled. I flashed axura 2.2.5.6 last night and restored everything including adw ex, updated everything, and noticed a vast improvement in all symptoms described above. Conclusion: either adw ex doesn't play well with nero v3, or perhaps you just need a fresh install of any rom just to clean things up a bit and give adw ex a clean slate to start with. Just thought Id chime in with my experience, hope this helps.
PS ADW EX is awesome! I really like the transitions and animation features. I currently use option 3 for animations, and it looks really cool. Also the hidden dock bars make it easy to sort your apps! Well worth the $3 IMO. I'm sure the bugs will be worked out soon if they're on the ADW end.
I've had for a week or so, no drain no difference, alot of the drain may be settings people haven't tweaked. The only real performance issue I see as less that Launcher pro, is the 3d app drawer displays a tiny bit of hang and a bit of lag. But, that isn't that much of an issue. And, ADW EX is way nicer interface.
I make 60-80 min of phone use per day with 40 average emails and 10 text, and of course all the self indulgence youtube..web etc After 12 hours of use I am usually in the 39-47% range...... I think people game a lot more than they realize and eat up battery that way........ADW EX......Nice App
Thanks everyone! Im new to this forum and really enjoy it.
I must say, I am NOT ROOTED and plan on figuring out how to do it. I think my battery issues could be better if I wasn't running a stock phone. In just the time it took to write this post, my phone drained 1%
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
have you actually checked to see what's using your battery, or are you just assuming its ADW?
I used task manager to discover adw cpu was around 60% after pressing home, before I wiped and flashed axura 2.2.5.6.
Not saying its adw, just passing my findings on. Im thinking I would have gotten similar results from wiping and flashing nero back. Something wasnt meshing right and I think the fresh install fixed it, not the switching of the rom. I just went with axura to check out the new version. Im a huge fan of both devs and switch between axura, nero, and eugene's often.

[Q] Does Go Launcher Ex affect performance/battery

Hey Guys,
As you can see im new to xda (in fact this is my first post). I own a samsung galaxy s 2 and have rooted it with Darky's Rom. I heard of the theme Go Launcher Ex and when i tried it out i was very impressed with the nice colour schemes and themes available to me. I am currently running all the app animations/transitions so i was wondering if the themes I am using would consume more battery life and/or effect the performance of the phone.
Thanks in advance,
Ripley
i would say yes. i tried it and got some battery drain ,like live wallpapers.
i would not recommend it, download a new theme there are many in themes and apps forums. be careful, that theme and rom compitable and specialy for your rom.
I found go launcher EX to not have any negative effects on battery life or performance.
I changed to ADW EX due to hearing some iffy things about go launcher ex
Go Launcher EX likes your IMEI number.
By the way it's quite logical for fancy stuff and rendered effects to have a negative impact on the battery and performance.

Hummm, what are those so iffy things ??? didn't read anything worst than other launchers.
I don't see any differences to TW regarding battery. sure some effects may drain but it's for a second so it won't have that big impact.

A dev who had decompiled it said that it had quite a bit of data mining **** in it.
Dunno how true it is, but I moved to ADW EX just in case, I do miss the combined homescreen/app draw folders and the nice task manager widget.
I think live wallpapers can be a bit of a drain depending on how well there coded but never found the launcher to be bad in regard to battery usage.
thanks for your response guys. Sorry for being a noob but what is "data mining ****". Also if ho launcher is a bit dodgy, what theme would you guys recommend?
Thanks Again!
Actually I'm a go launcher user and have been for awhile and haven't notices bad battery life...but I am interested in what this data mining is too.

IMO each and every launcher other than Stock TW drains more battery than normal, however it maybe marginal but still it will.

There's so many apps that like the IMEI or IMSI number... even the XDA app requests IMEI every time.
To answer the OP's question, I haven't noticed any excessive drain with Go launcher. Obviously any launchers, live wallpaper, widget, etc will use *some* battery in varying degrees. Probably worth mentioning that then I'm not one for going through and worrying excessively about battery stats though... I just use my phone, live wallpaper and all, and when it wants feeding, I just plug it in.

in my experience it seemed to drain a little quicker. Ive tried launcher pro and battery was fine, lost 1% an hour in standby. Moved to go launcher it seemed to go to 2-3% an hour. Last night i put adw launcher with a theme on and will give that a week to see how it goes, although so far this morning its not impressing me, ive lost 5% in an hour on standby so far. But ill give it a week to see how it settles.
With minimal use of the phone I got 3 days out of a full charge. This was with Go Launcher Ex, so I would very obviously say that it is not a battery hog.
As for "data mining", I have mine set to prompt me if it ever requires the permissions that the package suggests. It's never needed to call out, access contacts or access call logs.
If you're worried about apps doing things you don't like, like getting your IMEI (which is VERY common - almost all apps do it), get LBE Privacy.
How accurate are battery monitor apps?
I've used one called 'Where's my droid power?' and everytime I turn on Go Launcher, WMDP almost always reports it's using over 25% battery (though sometimes it would go down to less than 1% which is what it should be using normally)
Apart from what WMDP tells me, I also think Go Launcher uses up a bit of battery just from experience. Though I haven't used it for too long, but it's the impression that I got out of a few days use.
The upside is of course Go Launcher is one of the best launchers out there.. I'd even say it's the best at the moment (Not an invitation to discuss which launcher is the best)
From my experience of using go launcher i can attest to the fact that it does use more battery than the stock launcher thats for sure, tried launcher pro as well and had the same result. So i just went back to stock touchwiz for now don't really mind it; ill just grab a rom with the stock android launcher prebuilt into the rom soon.

just following up on this, i installed adw launcher yesterday and so far this morning its losing a steady 5% an hour. nothing else has changed on my phone except the launcher. Think ill be going back to launcher pro, the others look nice but if they drain so much in standby its poiintless
I've been using Go Launcher EX exclusively since start of this month. I can assure you that it doesn't use any more battery than any other launcher I've tried.

Does live wallpapers or widgets take more battery?

Which takes more battery? I usually have clcok, battery, and weather widgets, but recently moved to a alive wallpaper that displays time/battery. Which set up takes less battery?
I personally think that widgets, and live wallpapers, do not realistically cause battery drain. I run Phase beam and my battery doesn't vary. I also use Gmail, Calender, YouTube, and Play Music widgets.

The only time it would cause more drain is when its actually displayed. So unless your phone sits with the LWP displayed for a long amount of time, I don't think you'd notice any difference.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
This^^^^^^^. Lol I think back in the early days of Android and live wallpaper people were burning through their batteries so fast because they always had their screen on showing the phone off . Since that time, there have been so many kernel tweaks and tips to get the most out of your battery that I don't really think its that big of an issue anymore. That said, I would think that any Widgets/ apps that require constant updating would definitely be a drain on the battery. check the default update intervals on them, they are usually set to update every few minutes I know the 3g watchdog widget that monitors your data usage is defaulted at like every minute. Probably not a huge drain, but not necessary either. I usually set defaults at around at least every hour or more. Just a suggestion
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
I think you'll notice a bigger drain going from a black/dark wallpaper to a light/white wallpaper than you will from going from a normal wallpaper to a live one.
Also depends which live wallpaper, some from the market will destroy your battery in moments of keeping it on home screen.
I can attest to that. LWPs would kill my battery on GB. Haven't tried on ICS yet though.

[Q] Sense vs NonSense in Roms [AT&T HTC One X+]

Question for the HOX+ geniuses:
I'm a bit of a noob - but I've found several ROM's that are "Sense Based" but allow you to remove sense during install (Maximus, Viper XL+ etc)
What's the up and downside of doing this, does removing sense make it much more like AOSP/stock experience? What am I losing out on?
Are the sense based mods suffering by removing sense, or is the experience roughly the same?
Just looking for recommendations for the most battery efficient and stable way to install a custom ROM for HOX+
thanks
- Adam
First of all they are called senseless because calling then Nonsense is well nonsense
But the main advantage is keeping some HTC apps like the mail, camera, calendar while still keeping an aosp look
Slithered from my HTC One X+
I would also like to add that other launchers besides sense (Nova, etc) are laggy for some reason.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Well, correct me if iam wrong, but process ''com.htc.launcher'' is sense launcher (the thing they remove in sense less roms?
So this process, eats a lot of my battery as GSam battery monitor shows. On app usage list its always on top. (currently shows 13%, but i have seen more).
If thats what i think it is then you could see some nice battery improvement. But as i said i might be wrong about what it is, but its called launcher so should be that ^^
Edit: just took a screenshot of app usage. see attachment...

You're gonna have to run a launcher, so if not the sense launcher then might be the Nova launcher that will drain that battery in the same way, might be a bit more battery friendly if it requires less cpu load though, but I might aswell be talking nonsense now.. (pun intended)

I understand that it will need to use some kind of launcher anyway, but iam quite sure it would eat less battery ^^ Tho someone should test it

battery drain problems

I have noticed big battery drains while using themer I have a note 3 rooted using vision US T-mo version known for insane battery life. can anyone confirm? and can anyone add advice to retain battery life?
Same problem differer hardware
I have the.LG Optimus l90, rooted but otherwise stock. Normally I get home from work with 40%-60%, after installing Themer I am lucky if I have10%-20% even after going out of my way to conserve battery life. I have tried several different themes but it still just eats my battery like a Sumo wrestler going at an all you can eat buffet. I love the app and would prefer to continue using it but I had to uninstall do to battery drain. I would appreciate any help other than the obvious battery savers and turning off features that I want, need and use.

Hi,
We are aware of this problem and the developers are currently looking into it. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Just confirming on other hardware (that's not officially supported yet)
I was using Themer the other day on my LG G3 (Yeah, I know, it isn't technically supported yet), and I noticed a pretty drastic battery drain compared to Nova.
On the other hand, the only other bugs I could find with Themer on the G3 is the fact that some categories are blocked "because your device is not supported" and the previews aren't full screen, which I could care less about.

Full G3 support should be arriving soon!
I can confirm the battery drain issue is pretty drastical on my xperia z1c. With Themer, a full charge dropped to almost 50% just overnight, but with sony's default launcher, it can last more than 2 days with just moderate use.:crying:

The latest update should fix the battery drain.
I'm curious if anyone has noticed improved battery life? One of the main reasons I just switched phones was for improved battery life so I'm a little hesitant to try themer out now.
Hoping for this fix...my Nexus 5 has some pretty significant batt loss with Themer. I love this app...!
I will try it again and report back. I bought a 8600mah battery because themer was eating more then 45% of my battery. It was more then my screen on full brightness. It was the NUMBER 1 BATTERY HOG I HAVE EVER USED. So it will be hard for me to compare with such a large battery in my note 3 though.
Maybe its because of your apps are draining your battery or it could be your ROM's problem. Reset your phone and it should be fine if you are using stock ROM. For custom ROMs, I don't think there is any solution. Like me, after I flashed cm 10, my battery is draining twice as fast compared to my stock...

I know it wasn't my rom, in fact it was quite the opposite. Had twice the battery life over stock, with over 200 apps installed.
But here's an update, been running themer all day and its more on par to what it should be. I've had heavy usage today, moving and adjusting things in themer and its only used 12% today, compared to 35%, is a significant improvement. Redraw has also been cut significantly along with lag time.
I must say im impressed.....

Thanks for the feedback! Our developers are constantly looking for new ways to improve performance and reduce battery consumption.
Same here!
I installed Themer for the first time today, and noticed my stock AT&T HTC1 M8 battery drained dramatically! I can go from 5:15AM until midnight with 35-40% left and that's listening to music, texting, Facebooking, news feed, etc. all going. I love the idea and the themes are beautiful, but I don't think its ready for prime-time, unless it's specific to the latest release.
UPDATE: I'm running AT&T stock rom on my HTC One M8 as you know. Now I can only speak for my specific setup but it may be worth a try for all. What I've done is reverted back to HTC BlinkFeed, remove the Theme notification bar, and rebooted to clear my cache. Upon reboot I then loaded up a fresh theme (without the Theme notification bar), after several hours of use, listening to music from my SDCARD, BT on, and Mobile data on I can report back that I've regained my battery life, and I'm now sporting one of the badass Themes without skipping a beat

What a fortuitous coincidence
Battery drain is a bit more than with Themer for me as well, but not too bad.
I noticed though that the charge goes down when I'm using the phone even when plugin, now this is not the case normally because the charge would increase when plugin, using the phone or not.

Hi,
We're still working on performance optimization, but for now try this:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it if you saved any themes).
3. Reinstall Themer.
