[Q] Format SD Card with phone? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed in a few thread people mention using the phone to format your SD card. Am I missing something? Where is this option?
*EDIT*
Never mind, I found the program in the \Windows directory. The shortcut must just be missing in the Settings folder or taken out by tmous.

There isn't. Yo must have one of these:
Sktools
Spb Pocket Plus
Pocket Mechanic
Resco Explorer
StorageTools

nvm, found it in the \Windows directory, will update OP.

Hanging file/folder operation

Hi,
I've noticed that when I soft reset my XDA2 with the SD card in place, ans after it has restarted, deletion of files or creation of folders in the main RAM or Storage folder using the default File Explore crashes. It takes so long I have to soft reset again the PPC. This problem started when I had the SD card for my XDA2.
I tried to soft reset without the SD card, and inserted the card after that, and file/folder deletion/creation was working perfectly. Does anybody have any inputs on what might be the cause of this one? or any solution for this problem?
Thanks.
I did have similar file explorer problem, hanging when copy and paste or file deletion. But I identified the cause come from using one of the picutre as wallpaper. When i resume to the default wallscreen, file explorer operation is back to normal.

Installing tomtom5 on sd card only ?

I have jsut installed Tomtom 5 on my wm2005 xda2 following instructoins found on this forum, however, you have to put certain files on your device (program files and my documents) folders.
I want to install this so that the whole thing is situated on my sd card. Is this possiible?
If so, what folders do you need to create etc, i've tried the obvious ones, like creating a program files and my documents folder on the sd card but as the path is known as \storage card\program files it didn't work
Any advice would be helpful... :/
8) Hi
i installed tt5 no problem. WM2005 ask`s you where you want to install.
the only thing is the zip folder needs to be on the device.
Works fine without postal codes.
 Would be nice if someone could configure tomtom 5 to see zip folder on sd card?
strange coz my zip folder is on my sd card along with my map.
I could not install tomtom 5 using the installer as it kept crashing when trying to access activesync 4 so had to manually install it by extracting the cab and copying the files manually to the device folders program files and my documents.

Removed apps I shouldn't have...

Got a bit of a problem here...
Not even too sure what I'm doing, to be honest.
I rooted my phone, and removed a ****load of stuff with Titanium Backup...
Two of those were the Backup Assistant, and the default Launcher.
Right after doing so, I saw people were talking about how you shouldn't do just that. Also read that a way to fix it is to put the Fascinate's system dump APK's back onto my phone via the SD card... Here's my problem.
When I mount it via USB, to transfer files to my SD card, my phone says, "No SD Card Detected", and my computer just brings up a 14.7GB Removable Disk image. The contents of it include...
Code:
Android (Folder)
bluetooth (folder)
data (folder)
DCIM (folder)
launcherpro_backup (folder)
layar (folder)
LOST.DIR (folder)
media (folder)
PRIVATE (folder)
TitaniumBackup (folder)
Wapedia (folder)
busybox
com.sh
createlagfix.sh
playlogos1
su
superuser.apk
update (archive)
userinit.sh

Well that doesn't really help me at all. Whether or not it IS my SD card doesn't matter, I need my phone to recognize it as such. All applications say that I don't have an SD card inserted into my phone.
I'm not positive that I'd actually NEED any of those applications though, as I'm not sure how to get to the System folder in my phone in the first place. I need access to the Systems folder, so that I can replace all the APK files that need to be present before resetting my phone to factory settings.
I finally found a file management app (Astro) that will see my SD card as well as the actual folders on the phone. Problem is, I don't have permissions to paste the files I need, into the /system/apps folder...
Anyone know how I can get around this?
You'll need a file manager that's capable of accessing protected system folders. Root Explorer is by far the best app for this, and though it's not free, it's not terribly expensive (around $3). Otherwise, if you happen to know your way around linux terminal commands, you can install a terminal emulator app for free and copy files that way. If you have no idea what a terminal emulator is, or how to use a linux command line environment, then don't even attempt it, just buy Root Explorer.

Didn't want to bother paying for it, so I just downloaded it, and loaded it on with a backup installer. (They worked fine with a lot of apps, just not the two I had to have on there.)
Used it to copy-paste the files I needed in the directory.
Hopefully now, when I reformat, things will be alright. Fingers crossed, will keep you guys posted.
Successfully factory reset. Booted up with TWLauncher, no snags. One strange thing, though, is the Backup Assistant app still isn't on the list. I hope I'm not missing something that'll come and bite me in the ass later, now...
(Also, SuperUser is still on there, which is kinda weird. I guess rooting it involves the SD card more than anything else, right?)
Theoretically, if I didn't ACTUALLY have Backup Assistant on here, and I tried to update to FroYo when it comes out... What's the worst that could happen?

you have to copy paste via RootManager

Contents Of SDCARD Deleted

Today I found that the contents of my SDCARD (internal) was deleted. It doesn't look like the SDCARD was formatted because 1 or 2 files were still left behind.
I don't know if this was what triggered the delete but this is what I did prior to it happening:
In Settings I unmounted the 32 GB micro-sd card. The alert said it was safe to remove the card.
I ejected the card.
I reinserted the card. The G-Tablet did not detect it.
I powered down the G-Tablet and then powered up.
The external card was now detected ad I found that I lost the contents of the internal card.
I am using update 3389 with the Enhancement Pack v1.
This is not good.
Was it just media files? If so, then this is a known issue (with stock, as well as mods like TnT Lite and VEGAn).

The DCIM folder was deleted. I also had a folder named "download" in which I had several PDFs and a subfolder with APK files. The xScope folder (with Cache, downloads and Themes) was deleted along with a few more that I do not remember their names.

I have been searching the forums looking for a fix for this and I haven't been able to find one. Tried to search the forums with an advanced search from Google as well, no lock. This is an old thread, but is there any update to this? Running Vegan 5.11, Pershoot kernal. I had a bunch of pictures and video that were deleted, but the folders/containers they were in were not deleted. Thanks in advance for any help.
add an empty file in root sdcard2 called .nomedia
thanks for that, will give it a try and will let you knwo if it works.

Yes, worked for me. Running Vegan 5.1
When you apply this file everything is supposed to stay and not be deleted right?
I installed VEGAn-TAB 7.0 and had the same problem with media files disappearing (.mp4 video files and .jpg files). Happened when I deleted one file from the internal storage (memory). Next time I came in to the Videos folder on the internal storage everything was gone. Another time happened after I unmounted and removed my external micro SD Card 16gb. Also had the same thing happen with media files disappearing from the external micro SD Card. Very frustrating. Finally put all those elusive media files on my trusty 8gb Transcend Flash Drive and lo and behold, everything worked fine and I could play all those videos, remove the USB drive and when next inserted everything was okay. For whatever reason, the USB flash drive works far better and more safely than the micro SD card. Plugged the USB flash drive into my USB 2.0 4-port hub along with the USB keyboard and USB mouse.
i am seeing conflicting fixes.
some people say to make a file named .nomedia in the root of the sdcard2
other people say to make a folder named .nomedia and put all your files inside.
the 3rd fix i see is to make a .nomedia file in each directory that contains media
which is the correct method.
thank you.

how did you make the file? if you are using windows to create the file over usb, it automatically adds .txt to the end. i suggest making it through a file manager on the tablet.
i have not tried this yet, i will when i get home.

i used notepad but i enabled "show known file extensions" and made sure its a .nomedia file. Even windows sees it as a .nomedia file.
I will try to make it from the tablet and see if that helps.
Thanks,

creating the .nomedia folder with ifilemanager worked. I created the folder then moved the files to the SDcard. I have rebooted numerous times and the files are still there. Previously they would have been deleted.
Thanks.
cool i will try it when i get home. did you put it in the root or in each directory.
Dave
My problem is apps being deleted and not media.
I hope this thread isn't getting too old. So I am having similar issues with files being deleted periodically after some reboots, the only difference is that the majority of the time they are apps and no longer media.
Specs:
-Running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 stable
-I have created .nomedia file and placed on root of SD (no file extension)
-I use Apps2SD Pro to move apps to sd card
-When I notice that an app no longer appears in my tray after a reboot, i will reinstall from the market and before the install it will tell me that "this will replace an existing version already installed" which leads me to believe that the app is still there just not accessible.
There were a few instances where some of my ebooks and pdf's were being deleted, but that stopped after I placed the .nomedia file on the SD, but dont seem to see any change regarding deleted apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Titanium Backup folder not showing up in Windows Explorer

I'm a little behind on World Backup Day because I just moved into a new office and have had my head up my ass but I digress.
I just got around to backing up my G2x and my 201 tonight. I backed up to the SD card and synced both to Box.com but my problem lies with Prime and Windows Explorer.
I am copying the TitaniumBackup folder to my Win 7 PC for further redundancy but it is not showing up.
As you can see it shows up on the tablet: http://i.imgur.com/bR20X.jpg
But not when I connect to my PC: http://i.imgur.com/vDLCV.jpg
Is there something I am missing? WTF happened to the Titanium Backup folder?
Any help would be much appreciated. I will update OP if I get it sorted myself.
-Thanks
Update: Yes I just moved the folder with a SD card reader but that is just a workaround, not a solution.
You have to use air droid or wifi explorer to transfer the tb folder. Because of MTP some folders that are considered 'system folders' cannot be seen in MTP mode.
Had the same problem, did a different work-around

I renamed the folder "Titanium Backup" from ES File Explorer and lo and behold, it then showed up in in Windows explorer and I was able to copy it out to Windows.

This didn't work for me - folder visible but still empty - so I used astro to select all, move to "obb" (empty), paste.
