While most everything works from the rooting process equal to the phone I was not able to import all my google contacts only a handful will import into the Nook (NC). After many tries I found a work-a-round.
Save the contacts in google to (outlook type) CVS file and place it on the external sdcard. Download Navdress Book (the only one of many I tried) and import the contacts.
I still have a very small issue with my screen having everything bump up to the edges, while everything is there just no space around the sides. I am sure I will find some screen font/resolution way to make everything look better. Even if not this is so way cool to use over my Vibrant, as much as I enjoy the screen sharpness the NC is faster (hard to believe)...and larger screen....so I find I read and surf more on it then my phone now. Also being able to connect the NC to the phone I do not need to worry about wifi.
As I was going to get the SamsungTab, yet with their POOR support and software updates I was holding off until next year to see if otherS had a better tab, now I do not need to!
The phone is a phone, searching and maps tool, whereas the NC is a web-surf, email, reader, games, etc. Guess as I write this I would be open to 2/3rd the NC size (about 5" to 6 " thin) tab that had everything the NC and Vibrant has in one package. A "BEST of Both Worlds" kind of wish. Small and light enough to do it all...Hey it is a new year folks...
does this allow you to select contacts within google voice or a mail program? the reason i ask is it seems like a standalone contacts program.
i exported everything to a vcard file and used a program called 'import contacts' to get everyone on my phone (edit - scratch that: my nook). they don't all show up in my contacts app but they can be selected in google voice, k9, etc now. woohoo

Sadly no just have them available to lookup. Not sure what you are referring to about the phone. I have no problem with the Vibrant and Google, just the NC does not bring in nor allow contacts to be selected in gmail, that I have found. Read and reply works just not contacts lookup...
However, I can goto the WEB interface and reach gmail/contatcs and send that way. Can not use the gmail app on the NC unless I type in the full email address, kind of a drag unless replying is all I was pointing out.

that's what i meant. i meant nook, not phone this will make it to where you can actually select contacts.
Edit: just added this to the wiki: Making contacts work
So, what do you do once you have all your contacts on the Nook? Can't call them ... can't launch an email to them ... it's just a glorified address book at that point isn't it?

Using the method I posted, you can actually start typing their email address or name, etc and it will show up.
Glad I started this

Sweet - worked like a charm.
... By the way, to get a vcard of your contacts, go to gmail on web, click on contacts on the left side, more actions, export, and choose vcard.

After importing the contacts into Navdress, I found I was able to choose a contact, select the individual contact icon and the email address would automatically load into email program of my choice (K9 for me). Another option. Going the vcard route would not work for some reason.
Thanks here.david and jadambpharm for figuring this out. Have either one of you explored sending emails to groups? I have tried a number of group contact apps without any success. Thanks again.
Thanx for the post here.david
I also found this method on nookdevs and it worked really well,

I used another method.
1. Register on soocial.com
2. Import contacts from google
3. install app from market (search soocial in market)
4. Run installed program, enter your registered e-mail and password and import contacts
5. Download and install phonebook 2.0
Everything works fine! It even imported my contacts fotos
Is this method usefull for you?

Yes that is correct. I mainly use my nook for email and have a number of different distribution groups that I send a mass email to. Thanks (sent from Texas).

Cool! Does this stay in sync with your Google Contacts, or is it a manual process to sync them?

I have just tested with my nook and two mail apps, gmail and maildroid(i find it more convinient) and it works fine.
the testing procedure was following:
1. Call up phonebook app, find your contact, press on it and if contact has e-mail press email button and select your app to compose message.
2. Call up gmail app, begin typing contact name or email and drop down list appears matching to the keyword and select your contact.
3. Call up maildroid and do same steps at p.2.
All works fine
Note: p.2 and 3 are possible without any contacts manager app, it is available just after importing contacts from soocial account.
I have no groups of contacts thats why i cant test with groups, sorry...

Hi
I have a question for you - how do I get contacts to show in the address book from an exchange server.
Emails are sync'ed, but can't get contacts to show
Im not sure what exactly it is called in english, but I should be able to show something like "globale contact list". On HTC Desire I can go into "Corporate" and see the contacts, but on SGS2 I dont know how to show contacts at all.
Any help?
Thanks in advance
Noone at all?
Corporate Address Book App
Its one of the basic functionality that should have been a part of the stock s2 email app but unfortunately its not there.. Tried searching for it and most of the apps are either paid or of no use..
This so far is the best available free app for the purpose, using it for around 2 months now:
market.android.com/details?id=net.vivekiyer.GAL
or
code.google.com/p/corporateaddressbook/
Thank you very much. Looks promising
Exactly what I was looking fore. Thx

Why not use Touchdown for Exchange?
I am rooted! YAY! I didn't know that my contacts with fb would not sync, and neither are all of mine from google. booo!
Is there any way to get my facebook contacts to sync with my phone contacts? I really liked having all those pics for everyone, plus all of the other contact info. I didn't know that the backup my phone was syncing with every day (was it with verizon?) on stock GB was not a contact list that I would not be able to use on ICS. I lost a lot of contacts. How do I get all of my google contacts to show up, and how come it's only showing me some of them, and not all of them? Where do I go to manage all of my google contacts and get them on my phone? Do I do that from the desktop gmail in my pc browser?
Also, is there a way to make the contact manager list the contacts without the ginormous pictures in a side-by-side fashion? I really don't like the look or feel of it, is there a better way?
ETA: This might be helpful, duh, sorry

For google just set your gmail up or google voice and they should automatically show up.
Just do a google search. Thats what I did.
well, that is incredibly outdated and poorly written information, but thanks.

You're going to have to use an app such as HaxSync if you want to sync your Facebook contacts in ICS.
different contact manager for ICS?

thank you! I knew their had to be a way. Is there a different contacts manager for ICS? I really dislike the one that it comes with. Maybe I am just too used to the one that GB had, but I find the one is ICS to very unwieldy.
Hi
I am looking for some application which can sync the phonebook contacts to facebook contacts. I know there are a lot of applications available to do the job but the problem is they are not persistant. once I format/Flash new rom... every things goes away and I have to start from scratch.
In Nokia N900 there was an app called Hermes which once installed and mapped used the website field in the contacts to lookup for the image. All I had to do was to login and start the sync. I liked that feature as a lot of contact in my phonebook have diferent names than their facebook account so smart name matching isnt that smart in my case.
But In present case in android I am not sure where the mapping to the contacts is saved so it is lost all the time with a new rom flash
Any suggestion will be helpful.
Thanks and Regards
Haxsync. You have to re-add it as an account when you flash a rom and sync it but it really isn't a big deal and it has been the most accurate for me.

Yep, another vote for Haxsync here. I don't pay for many apps, but it's cheap, and I don't regret it!
i tried it and the problem is i cannot find manual mapping of the contacts and facebook friends... is there a way ??
Hi Guys, hope this thead is approppriate here.
I wonder how do you manage your contacts, for me it turned out very messy. Well I don't really have problem with Google contacts, but since our phones are also capable to show FB and many accounts contacts i would be awesome to combien all the useful infos....something like ENHANCING my Gooogle contacts using other accounts infos (like picture ansd birthdays, among others)
I don{t know if this is a temporary issu....but My FB contact are not synching well and and pictures are not always synched.
I used to have an iPhone 3gs and ther was this app called "MyPhone+"....was very handy......anyone know something like this for Android!
Hope you can help me....!
Thanks!

you can manage contacts over here https://www.google.com/contacts/
If you only need to add the syncing aspect, Friends Sync by WATTO Studios is my Fave. It's consistent, small, fast, & syncs more fields than other apps. The logo is ugly, though, IMO.

from your account of Gmail , enter the version web and edit your contacts, it works for me.:good:
Windows Phone has an option of linking two or more contacts. Quite useful. There must be an easy way in Android as well.
When you go to Contacts and select any contact, there should be an option to join contacts. You can cut out the duplicate entries this way and have all the info show up on one name.
When you join contacts it's works but if you wipe flash new rom all changes revert back

Google Contacts the very first time is a mess, but after you reorganize all your contacts everything works simple fine
Myphoneexplorer is quite good for cleaning up contacts. Used to allow merging but for some reason that got taken away.

I keep all my contacts in Microsoft outlook on my PC and sync using "myphonexplorer".
Categories in outlook sync with groups in both stock android contact manager and "go contacts".
I prefer "go contacts" to the stock contact manager because if fully customizable and allows group messaging without the cap on number of contacts also group chat..
"Myphonexplorer" syncs contacts, messages, calendar, and files via usb and Wi-Fi. Also allows you to text from your PC.
The only things missing from "Myphonexplorer" is mms and group messaging from PC which would be really nice.
Both "Myphonexplorer" and "go contacts" are free in the play store.

Not if you sync them to Google after you have them sorted the way you want.
i don't want to open a new topic just for this question, so i'll post it here:
When adding a new contact to a google account from android, is there any way to auto insert that contact to a custom created group? I keep forgetting to add the new contacts to a specific group and i want this operation to be done automatically, any solutions?

vCard sucks.. it doesnt support enough kinds of information, such as categories.. it doesnt work worth crap for CJK Characters either.. I cant believe every single program for Android only supports vCrap anyway.. but its all we have for now I guess... Windows 7 only has vCard 2.1 support.. .. but, it could be remedied on the software end by a program that would allow you to group contacts by a specific field.. you could then use one of the other existing fields as a "Categories" field...
there arent really any good programs from what I've seen.. honestly, I think i need to learn how to program an Android app just so I can find something useful so i'm not always stuck in suckville
but then, i dont think android will be around much longer.
