[Q] Should there be a "fund" for WP7 port? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I remember how the Android port had such a high amount added up and wondered if the WP7 port should have this started too. Plus it'll be a motivator for getting a fully working port over for the HD2. Certain live features are reportedly not working, but maybe this fund will help more developers to buy whatever equipment they need to do so. Just a thought since I feel the funding is one thing that REALLY helped Android being ported over to the HD2.

you should of done a poll but you can count me in for a few quid

I'd pay 20$+ for a port.

Any android bounty thread that was made before android was ported was closed. WP7 will be developed either way.... I don't think a bounty thread will do anything to help. In fact, it may hurt because it may make the devs compete and not share info instead of working together. And most good accomplishments are group efforts. Any dev knows that he will get plenty of donations to get wp7 working without a bounty thread.

Bounty for Android port to Raphael

Let's put together a bounty to encourage the best and the brightest to work on a fully-functional port of Android for our HTC Raphaels, and reward them for their efforts. Considering the similarities in hardware between the Raphael and G1 (same processor, wifi chipset, etc), it should not be too difficult for a few talented developers to get this port done. Many of us have been begging for Android on our phones for months, so let's put our money where our mouths are.
If there is enough support for this idea on this forum, we'll figure out a legitimate way to collect the bounty and make sure it will be awarded to the right person(s) when the proper criteria are met. Please chime in if you think this idea will work and are willing to contribute.
Do u really think this would work?
I have no problem to pay for fully ported android
I don't know if this would work but I give 50€ for a full ported android OS. I know that alot of people already work on that but if we could give them a little something to speedup the process. then why not
There is aready one but not fully ported.

Well, as some are aware, an Android port has been worked on for the Raphael for a while now, but it seems to be that despite the similar hardware, porting simply isn't easy (link by Crazy). I would think that we would need to give it a bit more credit than this and that a port is not simple simply because of similar hardware.
Lets face it: Has any phone ever had an alternative OS successfully ported? I've certainly never heard of any.
Secondly, if you're looking for an idea on how to collect a bounty, there are a few threads that seemed to have done it already. Here is one I recently went into: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499076
Sh** I would Pay even up to $100 If the Hero ROM is Ported and Has most to all Function or atleast connectivity for GSM at least..... im using the U connect version, its cool and all but it cant really do much but look goood, not even calls.... so if this is possible, please someone try this heero thing... it would save me the money of buying one..... so its worth a try tho
Wait for wmware to release virtualization for WM. It should be out soon and will support any phone os.

Wait whats that?
I mean like is there like a better hero port, than the one that was posted? cuz i already have it and it works, just not that well
People are already working hard on the port of android to WM hardware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402002
That is one huge post here where people are working to get it on Diamond and Raphael hardware. Go check out the stuff there.
The android OS is already functional. What we need are linux drivers. If we get linux drivers we'll have our Android.

Just because the g1 and the touch pro have the same chipset, doesn't mean its a cubcake to port android to the touch pro, the drivers on the g1 are specifically for android, these wont work nativevly on the touch pro because they were meant for android not for the haret bootloader nor the htc msm 7xxx kernel, unless someone can reverse engineer them, to get them working on haret.
I have no problem paying for a fully ported version of Android for HTC Raphael.
Maybe it would be a good idea to send an email/petition to HTC to develop HTC Raphael / Diamond drivers for Android and sell it for say $50 or so...
I'm in. Give me 100% functionality (I mean, flashlight, camera, gps, bt, wifi, accelorameter, CHARGING, light sensor, backlight on keyboard, capacitive surface etc) and I'll put up $40
Oh.. also, I'd like to see the battery last longer than an hour or so.
its a nice idea but i wouldnt pay for a g1 port. already their are talks about the G2 which would then make this a port to an "older" phone. even a decent phone has its own problems [case in point-raphael rom development/software] I would rather port their better apps and call it a day

Er, capacitive surface? If they're going to port Android to the Raphael, I would imagine that they would have to make it work for the Raphael's hardware, which utilizes a resistive touch screen, not capacitive.

Athena Android Bounty Thread

After spending a huge amount of time trying to get a working android to boot on the athena I am thinking that maybe if enough people are interested in donating we can get some devs interested in helping us.
Initially I would like to get android 2.0 to work, my thinking is to firstly get people to commit to donate to getting android to boot.
The other option is to get enough together to buy a 2nd hand athena to donate to a dev to work on.
Please post here if you wish to donate to the project and how much you are willing to pledge.
Devs: PM me for details of the relevant git etc if you are interested in this.
Donation list:
Avengerpenguin £20
UniversalCitizen £20
Definitely!
Hey I just made another donation - as drewid - and I am excited that you are talking about this and working on it. Thank you!
I saw your twitter post a little while back and was wondering if you had finally got a working build tested after losing your adapter? I am so psyched for Android but I know it will be a while still.
I am going back to the drawing board this evening to test more WM ROMS since my current one and the last 4 before it have not seemed stable. I feel like I am nearing the end of my patience for Windows Mobile at this point, but I like the device. I have to get it stable and with enough features to keep on using it.
If you don't mind me asking, do you still like WM? If you had to recommend a best ROM to use on my 7501 which one would YOU recommend? I just want reasonable speed and good web browsing, stability. I can add SPB Mobile shell again for pizazz since I bought it a while back but it doesn't always seem stable on recent ROMS.
Thank you again for working so hard on this and all your ROMS work! I wish I knew development so I could help out more.

Ive got a new adaptor and feel that I am getting close to compiling a working 2.6.31 kernel for the athena, but am trying to learn linux at the same time, making my progress slow.
Yes I still like windows mobile, its just that with lennie now cooking as well I decided to spend my time trying to get android to work after running on my blackstone. My thinking for me as my athena is a second device that with android I could almost have the equivilent of a dell/archos android tablet without any outlay.
To be honest I havent flashed any new roms to my athena for a while and am still using my last release.
Hopefully there will be plenty of time to help once we get to a working build and there will be a lot of testing etc to do
Just donated to the cause
Hello Avengerpenguin,
Just made a donation from an email address beginning with 'wide' and ending with '.com' would of made it sooner but was waiting for payday.
Lets hope we can get a working version sometime soon or I might have to go crazy and get the HTC Desire when it arrives. (if it's not got the same issues as it's Nexus sibling that is)

Many thanks for the donation, I have had confirmation of the donation and will keep it in the kitty for the android dev, I like you really hope for a working android either by my doing or from someone else, unfortunately work has dictated that my android work in on the back burner for probably another week or so, but will get back to it as soon as I can
I will probably get a htc desire in april when released on orange to use for work, looks like a great device.
I am willing to test!
If you need a tester, I would like to do so.
I have an X7510 which I only use for music, and that even only in imergency if my MP3 playe is out of power!

New Dev Team - RECRUITING NOW!!!

What's up fellow Evo 3Ders??
Let me first start off by introducing myself. I'm BThomas22x, and up until today, I Developed exclusively for the Samsung Epic 4G. This has obviously changed though, because today I got myself an Evo 3D, and will now be Developing for this device as well. If you guys need any credentials for anything I've done, feel free to go to the Epic 4G Dev section and just look me up. I've done numerous things for the community, such as: porting Ubuntu, Developing ROM's, Developing Kernels, and countless contributions to Mods and helping other Developers with their ROMs, and/or Kernels. I actually have a friend that came to the 3D as well, Sniperkill, if anyone is familiar with him, feel free to ask him as well. Now, onto the reason for this thread.
Since I will be developing for the 3D now as well, I'm going to need a team. I prefer to have people that actually have experience, however, experience is not necessary. To be completely honest, if you don't have any experience, I will personally work with you to start you out on themes or something simple. Also, as of right now, I do NOT have a team name. My team is Team Viper for the Epic, but seeing as how someone already has that team name for the 3D, I will have to think of something else. Once the team is created, we will, as a team, decide on a name, unless I think of something really cool before then lol . Anyways, If you are interested, you can reply to this thread, or you can shoot me a PM. Give me a little something you've done, or if you have no experience, let me know and we'll work on getting you started.
Thank you all, I appreciate the time you took to read this. Feel free to hit me up any time, even if you're not interested in joining, and you just have a question. I believe in having a strong community spirit, and maintaining a drama free forum. There were some issues in the Epic forums with people being demanding or just causing drama with the few Dev's there were, so hopefully this community is a bit more peaceful lol. The only rules that I have for the team are actually really simple. They're the same rules for the entire XDA site. If you use someone else's work, give them credit, as well as please be respectful of other Developers as well. This is a community, so let's work together and make one of the best phones on the market even better.
Thanks again guys,
BThomas22x

The force is strong within this one. Anyhow, my knowledge in regards to android development is poo, but I am thinking of self teaching myself.
Wouldnt mind helping out. I'm pretty good at theming, just learned how to make skins, and learning new things. Also know how to make splash screens.

I'm actually quite interested now. You seem like a great guy who's really willing to help out the less knowledgeable, I have a feeling this might be really cool to do
I am interested but my knowledge of android isn't that great however I am self taught computer builder/fixer and I have programed in Basic, C++, Perl and others probably not worth mentioning all self taught though (Right now my programing skill is weak as I haven't done any in 10+ years) but I am a super fast learner and would love a little guidance to give some back to this great forum.
I will happily join. I'm not much if a developer, but I want to learn more. I have designed websites and could learn rom theming, and with time can learn devoloping.
P.s. are u going to stick to snake names for the team name?
Sent from my 3devo...s-off was found lurking in the girls room, tricky?
I know very little and when I say very little I mean nothing lol. But I am willing to learn. If that counts. My profession is in It and system admin. Also I run a Pc repair business on the side. Self taught all the way. Only been dealing with android for a little over a year and a half. Started with my hero and now I'm on the 3d. If your team can use a guy Like me then I'm all in. I got time and dedication. Figure I can sleep when I die.
Locked & Loaded
I'll help, I guess. I know nothing fancy about developing, but I have made a theme and an app.
PM me If you want a noob with (possible) potential.
I dont know crap, but im bored with alot of time on my hands and would love to learn about cooking up Roms. Count me in.
I Haz 3D!
I've screwed around with kernels, ROMs, and such, but never actually built and flashed one. I'm still learning from resources on this site and elsewhere. I would love to help you out, and learn alot in the process. PM me if I could be of use. Or, [email protected]

Let me tell you guys this, BThomass22x is a VERY talented developer! If any of you know, he was the chief developer for viperROM for the Epic 4g. His Roms were FAST, stable, and very well themed! A VERY talented developer!
It's good to hear from you again BT!!

I am very intresting and would love to join! I dont have much knowledge but I am a quick learner
If you still need help, I'm down. I started on the OG EVO and built my own roms and themed them too, as well as compiled my own AOSP rom for it. I don't have much knowledge with Sense 3.0 yet but got a base rom last night to start ripping up and customizing. Also, I'm ridiculously keen on Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, so I could help with making sigs for the team or making cool wallpapers for the ROM.
It would take me a while to catch on to customizing ROMs for Sense 3.0 simply because I'm used to the OG EVO but would be happy to help.

[Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original HOX?
Was just wondering if there's anything we can do to get some more dev's over to our HOX+ forum? Not that I don't appreciate the work that's already being done by current dev's.
i agree...especially to get some new roms our for AT&T models as well. im willing to help the devs in any way possible if itll get some fresh content out
This depends on what you are looking for and the devs ability to get a phone. The big AT&T issues is the TEGRA processor in the + versus the qualcom in the original.
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
a dev won't build a Rom for a device they don't have in most case's bud
Theres not many x+ owners in general so a small dev community is expected

Well that sucks since we paid a lot of money for a very high end phone and the phone only came out in europe in november so technically its still a VERY NEW phone yet it seems like the development community is for such a new and high end phone REALLY small... I expected a large dev community for such a high end expensive phone ... what a disappointed... especially when it comes to looking at the ORIGINAL development thread that's suppose to have aosp based roms and yet all i see is multiple roms being discontinued e.g. aokp 4.1 and miui rom... if things carry on the way there are and we keep loosing more devs than we receive the development community for this device will be virtually non existant ...
we need to do something about it... get some more devs from the Original One X thread over to the one x+ maybe chip in all together to get a popular well recognised dev over at our thread the way people did it for the viper x rom developers.... what you guys think?
AOKP 4.1 and CM10 got discontinued because of work being continued on CM10.1 and AOKP 4.2! we HAVE LIVES too, the amount of PM's i have gotten this week just because i went on a 4-5day holiday was horrendous! Either step up to the mark, help the dev's, or shut up!
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Also I just re-read what you said, seems you under value myself and max who have done a TON of work for this device!! You are just ungrateful! Quality over quantity every time
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Just to echo what Lloir said, if you think things could be done a certain way or at a faster pace........you could always roll up your sleeves and build it yourself!
Being on a number of devices and around this kind of thing for a while, I can tell you that if you keep on pushing and pissing off people like Lloir....you won't have him for too long!
It ain't nothing for someone like him to put his device on swappa or something and go develop for a device where the users are not as ungrateful as they seem to be here.

Here are my thoughts:
I think we have two of the *best* android developers in the XDA community (Lloir and Maxwen) developing for our device. The AT&T Hox+ has a not so friendly Tegra processor when it comes to development. Not sure if you have flashed the CM 10.1 ROM that Lloir and Maxwen have produced but it is rock solid for a "WIP" ROM. Something you very seldom see for a first release. Personally I am extremely thankful for the efforts these 2 guys give towards our device. Thanks Lloir! and thanks Maxwen for your kernel work.

Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Oh my God, all i was trying to say was that it would be nice to have a bit more variety in our Dev community, this thread i created because i wanted to find out if there was anything we the community could do to increase our Dev community e.g. Get the community all donate so more devs could buy a one x+ etc... And in the first post i did actually wrote that i am grateful to current devs... Lloir you have seriously mis understood my comment! Words can not express how grateful i am to you doing so much work for our device and not just you but all the devs... As for the statement of roms being discontinued, i didn't know the reason and I'm sorry ... I really am. Please don't think that I'm an unapreciative person because that couldn't be further from the truth

at first i must say i really believe he didn't want to seem ungrateful just like many other, but i think this is a problem, that is to be observed in many subforums of xda.
i guess this is mostly an iussue of missunderstanding what this forum really is.
in first place this is not somewhere to find lots of roms and tweaks for your exact device.
it's a place for development and sharing of it's results and we as users should do our best to contribute to the community as much as we can.
be it testing and giving feedback or for everyone who really is interested in extending the amount of choices: learn to get it done by yourself.
start with small steps like first java programms, simple apps for your device, theming and porting simple mods.
try to compile some kernels from git and maybe port an aosp based rom to this device.
learn how everything works, create by yourself, port, etc and share it.
and if you really don't know how to be helpful in any other way... just hit the thanks button and donate a little bit for something the devs have worked in their spare time.

Sad State of Development

Dear Yasir, Atis112, Prototype-U, ckpv5, MaartenXDA, xpirt, The Android Manual and fellow devs,
I have downloaded all your ROMs and installed them faithfully on my phone. However I must express my utter disappointment that these ROMs aren't running Key Lime Pie. Why are you so lazy?
Also, my phone does not turn into an umbrella when it's raining. WTF is this? How can you ignore such basic stuff? It doesn't walk my dog, or chop my vegetables. I wanted to use my phone as a lightsaber to impress all my friends, but can I do this with your ROMS? No!
You use excuses like: "We don't have kernel sources from HTC", and manage to give us a measly 4.2.2 ROM / Sense 5 themed ROM / Sense 4+ Full / CM 10.1 instead!? Really it's just that you are not listening to us, your non-paying customers. Why should we donate to you or support your work when we can't even play the latest PS4 / Xbox One games on our Desire X. Is that too much to ask?
So, please get with the program, and make us some awesome ROMs with no new sources and nothing but endless hours of hacking and slashing at code to work with. We promise to do nothing but moan at you and suggest how you should spend your volunteer time and efforts.
Sincerely,
A random noob

Sense 5 ROM...? Where!?
Haha. Nice one OP. A very unique way of thanking.
Your welcome. I hope we will get more devs with time and then you might get more distractions, like fully working cmx and bug free sense 5.
And I would include even more people like maartenxda, xpirt, TAM, who are making each day better than last.

OP - very well said mate, most of us are acting this way and want everything not for today, not for tomorrow but for yesterday.
Most members are asking for ETAs everyday, when its been said many times not to do so, many members are moaning about non working stuff, without donating, without thinking that this is what Development means - stuff being fixed needs time, time which our not many, but working devs need to spend for us, not for their private life.
So i agree with you and i wish all of us to be more friendly and more patient with the development and developers we have here.
Thanks for this one. You should become a news writer on XDA Portal creating an article about the missing kernel sources for JB...

There's a serious point to this post, which is that there are people who are making attacks against devs, criticising people's efforts while having made no contributions themselves, and generally going against the spirit of XDA (that is to foster a community of people committed to learning and developing together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy). So stop with the moaning and the whinging. the ad hominem attacks, and the armchair developer schtick. Give developers the respect they deserve. They volunteer their time and energy on the things they choose to. They don't owe us anything.

I agree with you. All people who don't like dev's work can learn and make by themeselves.
I respect all dev's work like @neXus PRIME one because he made all recoveries for us and we have to be grateful to him.

Why the hell aren't you a news writer? Seriously, I have seen some of your posts - like the ROM reviews - and they're post by post AWESOME. It'd be great if the rest of the forum could join the happiness of reading your posts!

Ikr, his use of language is perfect for articles and reviews, you should ask for a position at xda portal if that's possible

some of the names mentioned above arent even devs :S
^
exactly why this thread was made, they may not be "devs" but they are still dedicating plenty of personal time to you and all others here, they made things noone else would do and let everyone to benefit from it, further development included, they are pushing desire x in others eyes up, they should be thanked, not labeled as "not dev, pfff"...
Exactly, lack of respect, they may not be a developer but sure they release amazing modded Roms.
Deal with it fella.
