How have you guys done it?
Is it possible to do it for HTCs Android phones?
Mainly Desire HD and Z since they have been hit with an OTA with no current root methods possible.

Hi,
I just bought an HTC Hero off eBay today (still waiting for it) and it comes from T-Mobile but it's unlocked. However, I'm looking at debranding the phone and I want to install the original HTC ROM's instead of T-Mobile's.
I've been reading these forums and there are original HTC ROM's, original HTC but rooted ROM's, custom ROM's and etc... I'm not interested in the custom ones at the moment, I just want to get the original stuff for now, but without the T-Mobile branding. Also, this way, I can always be updated with the latest changes from HTC.
As far as I understand this, I'll have to root it at least once to install a new ROM right? And after that, maybe I should install the generic but rooted HTC ROM so that in the future I have the phone rooted already and everything's easier, correct? Is this the recommend approach or should I install the latest original and untouched HTC ROM?
For now I don't see many benefits from rooting the phone, and I think I just want to make things easier by using the original HTC ROM so that in the future I can use HTC own utilities (RUU I believe) to update the phone. In other others, I'm waiting eagerly for HTC update with Android 2.0 and I just want be able to install it directly from HTC when it comes out. I'll deal with rooting and custom firmwares later if I really see the need.
So, what's the best procedure to install the latest generic HTC ROM?

Can anyone give me some hints?
Hello all,
I am new to Rooting, Unlocking bootloaders n all that.
My question is simple. Hope somebody can help me out.
Is it enough to Unlock the bootloader on my HTC Thunderbolt to install a new ROM ?(Now that HTC has released bootloader unlocking from HTCDev.com for the Thunderbolt)
I want to install HTC Sense 3.5 on the phone without rooting the phone.
Is this possible ?
If so, can someone provide me a link to downloading the HTC Sense 3.5 ROM. I tries searching and I am not quite sure how to get the correct ROM which will work well. Also, I would like to have the HTC Sense 3.5 as clean as possible.
Is there any specific ROM that would give me a very clean experience ?
Can xda members also help me out on Ste-by-Step instructions to installing the new Sense 3.5 ROM to my phone ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
No you need root in order to flash a custom rom, everything you need to do so is in the stickies in the development stickies.
Well, you don't need root to flash a custom ROM, but most likely the custom ROM will have root regardless. To flash, you just need a custom recovery installed.

There is no official JB upgrade as of yet...HTC One V runs ICS/Sense 4 stock ROM. You can check the official HTC website for HTC's development on One V (ROM upgrades, software/application updates, security updates) or check your carrier's page for your device. Since the HTC One came out when JB was still in the process, most people from what I've seen have said that it would not have enough RAM to run JB. Doesn't mean it's not possible...some older phones have been upgraded to newer ROMS than newer phones before. But there's no upgrade yet.
Cyanogen Mod is for rooted phones, and their JB ROM must be flashed to a ROOTED phone. All I will venture to say is root at your own risk, voids warranties - I only do it on older phones, phones purchased used...or when I've had a phone a while and am bored of it!
If you prefer looks of JB over functionality, I would suggest installing a home replacement launcher from your app market of choice, there are many available to try out and choose from, and you can often download different themes (like JB theme) to change the appearance of your phone. Don't root, modify, or flash your phone unless (1) you research the process fully, and (2) you know the definition of bricking! :silly: LOL.
If functionality of HTC One V IS an issue for you, you can always find ways to optimize it without getting into the system files. Poke around development forums. Have fun!
So I just traded my mom my GS4 for her new HTC One, and it is still on Android 4.1.2. Should I update to Kitkat and Sense 5.5 or keep it where it is?
It is an AT&T model.
What are my options as far as rooting and maybe installing CM. I'm not sure about the bootloader situation.
Anyways, I'd like to know your opinion XDA!

it may be easier to get s-off before updating. Look for revone / RumRunner or Firewater s-off. And yes you definitely want to update as soon as you have s-off secured.
