I have been flashing roms to the Vibrant for some time now. I do it for my customers all of the time. For one customer i was reverting him to stock after he bricked his phone. The flash went good and oden declared it successful. The phone turned off to reboot and never turned back on. ANY IDEAS? ANY FIXES? Anything will help. even if it is bad news.
Im looking to sell the thing regardless. Im sure some one can scrap it out for good hardware
This is not a SOFT BRICK. i get no power. which means i can not odin back to stock.
Have you tried getting into D/L mode through hardware keys?
I would do my best to get it back into DL mode and try Odin again.
What version of Odin are you using? Also, what .pit and .tar?

I get no power. I have tried many combos of key combinations including different timing of usb connect. Nothing. When i plug it into the charger the phone is dead. no battery signal. no dock lights.....nothing. if i could get to download mode i could fix it. I cant get a hiccup out of this damn thing

Wow dude, it might be a true blue brick. I bricked mine not too long ago, nothing I could do would bring it back...warranty replacement took care of it for me.
Sorry man, you can try different combinations and see if it brings it back to life...but those are pretty much all the symptoms mine had.

If you tried the last resuscitation method - remove battery, plug in usb, hold vol +- and insert battery, and that didn't work you could always try the JIG method. If you're planning on selling it the JIG may be worth the investment as a running stock phone sells for a lot more than a brick.

I had this happen once..freaked me out.. what had happened was I odined on an almost dead battery and by the time it was done it wouldnt do anything. I plugged it in to a wall outlet and let it sit there and then i went thru the process of removing the battery, plug usb into pc, hold volume+pwr keys and plug usb into phone and it came on.

MAYBE, just maybe, the batterys out, put another one in and see if it turns on?
thsi happened to me too the hard brick, i just sent it to tmobile saying i dont know what to do and they sent me a refurb, and done.

While I'm not 100% sure that this wouldn't cause a brick. I know that I've pulled my battery out during an odin flash with out bricking. Plug in the charger just to make sure.

You might try to get into download like this
1. remove batt.
2.plug usb into computer
3.put batt. in
4.hold volume down+up
5. plug usb into phone.
Then try Odin again
If that doesn't work you might try building a jig:

Its a true brick if you cant get in download mode or turn it on. The jig is for people that flashed wrong firmware or pulled battery out in odin and dont have working 3 button combo but the phone does turn on. I have tried a working jig with captivate that wont turn on and no working 3 button combos and had no luck. I have bricked a few captivates with ULF kernel and bad flash's. I do not use ULF kernels any more. Did you have ULF kernel loaded before you flashed?

Not true. My phone couldn't turn on at all. The screen remained black even when plugged into usb or a charger. Removing/replacing the battery did nothing. I plugged into usb, pulled battery, and held the volume buttons while inserting the battery, BAM dl mode.

I said if download mode does not work. If you try every way to get into download mode and it does not work or turn on then you have a true brick.

I've got the same problem. The jig method won't work...it says it right in the guide. Did you get anything to work?
I'm still not convinced this is possible without actual physical damage being inflicted through faulty charger/usb cable, shock, water, or otherwise... A rogue battery pull sounds a bit far fetched to cause this kind of damage, but you never know...

This is 100% possible to have a hard brick. Nothing but JTAG can revive the phone in this condition. I have the ability to bring a hard bricked phone back from the dead as well as a phone in any bricked state where a JIG won't work. Just pm me if you need help...

i need help this happened to me.
what happened was.... i went from darky v 9.5 to cm7. didnt like cm7 so nand restore back to darky. brick. tried to odinback to stock. stalled. removed battery tried again. stalled. held down power button with no battery in (standard hardware power cycle) now i get absolutley nothing. no power, no chargining indicator. nothing. i think ive no choice but to use my phone insurance and report it stolen. (i cant use warranty to tmobile since i have an ffc by the amazing connexion) so if anyone else has suggestions, speak now before i make the call. (will wait 1 day. cant be without my phone.)
Take battery out, plug into computer...mame sure you have drivers installed, hold down volume down put battery in, then push power while still holding power down. You should be in download mode

I just recovered my phone from what i believed was a hard brick, it would not power on using the 3 button method i pulled my battery and still nothing. so i did a little bit of looking around on the internet and came accross fractionalphones .com/?p=185 after following the steps i got back into download mode used odin and flashed my phone back to stock.

I tried to upgrade to froyo using the odin method from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950. After everything was successfully done my phone shut off and now it won't turn on. I don't get a battery charge screen or anything. The phone's just blank.....
First, Get the Shipping rom (pit and tar files) so you can ODIN back to stock
Be sure you have the newest version of ODIN
Then remove the battery, plug the USB to the PC.
Now put the battery back.
Press both vol keys (up and down) and hold.
That should get you in Download Mode.
If it does not work, take battery out, unmplug USB.
Put battery back and try again to go into download mode.
Now you put the wrong version of froyo, if your keys maps are changed you may be screwed
If so, good luck! You are gonna need a lot of research to see if you can save it

Hehehehe...I bricked mine yesterday. I disabled voodoo via Voodoo Toggle and waited for Linda to convert. I loaded up Odin and put in my pit & tar for JFD, which I always use, and hit start. I was on Nero v3 going to flash Nero v4 when it came out. I got a Fail part of the way through. The phone won't power on at all.....A popup says Windows can't recognize the device plugged into usb...
I think people are confusing things here and there...if your phone won't power on at all, you can't get help...you can't get into download mode to odin or recover it.

Well right now I'm simply trying to get the phone to turn on which it won't, I was not asking for help to odin or recover. I was trying to ask if anyone else had this problem and if my phone is totally killed or if there's a possibility that i can save it. But thanks for your 2 cents.

I had ordered Samsung Vibrant Unlocked from T-Mobile USA around a month back. I am well past the 30 day replacement now.
I Rooted it updated to Axura 2.2.5.9
After all the procedure got completed, I rebooted the phone and now it just won't start at all.
My piece is Hardware Locked wherein I can't get into the Recovery Mode, but can get into the Download Mode. But I am not even able to get into the Download mode now.
It just won't freaking turn on.
If I send it over for repair, as the phone is a rooted one, will I void the warranty ?
Please reply quickly. I am starting to freak out.

I got the same issue and this isn't working for me.
are there any other ideas?
it is completely dead. I am using a new battery and a known good usb cable to the computer.
I have tried holding all three buttons...just the vol up and down...vol up and power...etc... and nothing.
I even created that little JTAG thingy that I found on YouTube...that did nothing also

I reset my battery stats and also disabled VooDoo lagfix, and after i tried to reboot the phone, it froze on the vibrant screen.
I tried using soome of the methods that you guys posted before me, but then after i turn it on it shows an icon that there is a connection problem between the phone and PC.
I CAN turn on the phone, is there a way to just like reset everything? and if so how?

If your phone powers on at all, you should be able to get into DL mode. Follow the instructions on how to revert to stock via ODIN.
In reply to the OP, if you tried the download mode method:
connect phone to usb
pull out battery
hold both volume sticks
put in batttery
and the phone still does not turn on even after multiple tries , well you're a bit screwed. But, Samsung cannot detect if the phone has been rooted if it cannot even turn on. Just tell them the Kies Mini update bricked the phone.
omg leave ur phone on charger for 10 min, pull battery out when hooked up to charger put battery back in , let sit for few min pull battery out hook up phone to computer hold vol up vol down pop battery in , helped ? np this has been answered gazilion times in other threads
btw it takes few try this way to get it back up running so dont stop on first , hey .
If you have the phone!pc problem..connect to odin & see if your showing a COM port .... just flash pit & tar if you do. Without download mode

You're talking about a DIY Jig. A JTAG is completely different. They cost $150-300. You can pay to have a local repair shop jtag it for around $50 or send it to Samsung to repair/replace. I'm still trying to find out how much Samsung would charge for the repair if it's deemed out of warranty.
If your phone refuses to turn on no matter what you do and it gets warm or hot if you leave the battery in it, read on:
I hope my suggestion is not too late. I was in the situation before. I tried everything everyone said here and somewhere else. None of them works.
The reason that those methods don't work because you cannot get to download or recovery mode or even the pc-phone screen since your phone won't turn on. The reason that your phone doesn't turn on because the bootloader has been messed up. A jig will work only if your phone can be turned on somehow.
Three possible solutions:
1. Repair or replace it with T-mobile, or
2. Get someone to repair it with a riff box or other similar tool, or
3. Get the box and fix it yourself (not recommended if you are not familiar with electronic stuff.)
This is the link for the same problem you have; this guy bought the box and has his phone fixed himself. If you live in US, he may do it for you if you have no place to go. It does hurt to ask.

Hi all, i am running the latest version of Bionix i went to hit the reboot option and accidentally selected the download mode button. I pulled the battery out before it fully shutdown, me being impatient. When i put the battery back in the phone immodestly turned on and tried to boot, and stays on the vibrant screen for about 2-3 seconds then shuts off and try's to boot back up again on its own. Also when plugged in it continues to boot loop, it never shows that it is charging, only the battery with the loading circle, then ****s off and repeats.
I am not new to modding, and i am not new to getting my phone into recovery or download mode. The problem is the phone does not respond to the hardware keys, and i am positive that it used to be able to reach download mode via keys, i do not have a hardware locked vibrant.
I guess my question lies in the realm of another way to reset the phone, maybe via shorting pins or something? Does anyone know of an alternate method that does not rely on keys or software to reset the phone?

Hold volume up and down
Insert battery while holding buttons
That should work because it will put you in dl mode before it has a chance to boot loop

Please explain.
A jig is a mod'ed usb device that will basically force your vibrant into download mode. Just use the method mentioned earlier....ie
Have odin up and running.
Pull battery
plug in cable
hold vol up and down
put battery in
should get you into download mode. Sometimes it took a few tries with Odin already loaded to successfully do it, but you shouldn't have any issues.

Hey man Ive been in a similiar situation as well.... this has been the ONLY way that has worked, not even the above mentioned methods.
Phone not plugged in at all yet. Battery pull for 10 seconds, put back in, BEFORE plugging in phone, hold volume up button (if this doesnt work try both volume buttons, sorry been out of the Vibrant for a while for my NS) while plugging phone in (still holding volume up button), hold till it throws into DL mode.

I've tried that method, it used to work for me. This soft brick is different than any other I've encountered. The phone has never automatically tried to boot when i put the battery into it, it makes things harder. But thanks and ill give it ago again.
No such luck with the battery method, it still just boot loops. I tried at least 2 dozen times.Anyone want to tell me how to get my hands on a jig?

I think that method with the battery is just referred to as a jig by some people.
I would try the battery method with odin ready to go and without, and sometimes it takes a couple tries.
Also just try holding all the buttons while unplugged, for a long time, then on one of the boot loops as soon as you see anything flicker in the screen release the power button, then try all buttons, then just volume buttons. Sometimes playing with it like that just kinda forces it.
Does odin see it in com port? Do you have correct drivers installed to use odin? Sdk installed as well?

A jig is THIS, it shorts out pins in the micro usb port forcing it to download mode. I am positive i have the correct drivers and the sdk installed right. This isn't the first time I've been soft bricked and i am very familiar with DL mode and Recovery, and how to reach them traditionally. This soft brick is different though for what ever reason. I am going to have to try this jig, and if that doesn't work, i think ill have to read up about the jtag pins on it, if anyone has more information on jtaging a Galaxy S please post!

I hard bricked a vibrant by trying to flash a rom on a low battery. Battery died in the middle of rebooting thus killing my vibrant with no way of recovery (seriously, charged the battery and the phone still wouldn't turn on... at all). Anyway, while trying to fix it, I actually made a jig. It's a lot easier than it sounds. You basically cut the plug that goes into your phone off of the cord down to where you can see all of the wires. Once you do that you break off the plastic shell that covers the plug. You then use a 301k resistor (I couldn't find that exact one so I bought 3 x 100k resistors and a 1k resistor then twisted them together).. plug the usb side into your phone then touch the opposing ends of the resistor onto wires 4 and 5 and it should go into download mode. You don't necessarily have to solder the resistor to the wires but you can. It makes it a bit easier considering you can't touch the wire part of the resistor or the static will mess up the voltage. Otherwise, Amazon sells jigs for a few bucks.
I wanted to post the url for the site that I found useful in making a jig but because I'm a "junior user" I can't. So if you search for "usb jig" on amazon there are a few; if you want to make one google "how to unbrick samsung vibrant" there is an article on factoidz called "How to unbrick your samsung vibrant/galaxy s" which I found to be the most useful.

I bought a jig off ebay and it worked like a charm! Worth its weight in gold! I now have a working phone again after being phoneless for 5 days.
Failed to replace stock recovery now get only there.
Hi, similar situation please help.
From stock 2.1 I rooted with King root Chinese zip then to go for a new ROM I renamed a cwm zip in update.zip and I read replacing stock recovery..... and saw this cwm just a couples of times, as it revert to stock recovery and doesn't switch on anymore, show grey battery logo fixed when charging, and now after removing the battery for long it goes in stock recovery se2 , cleaned cache and data but nothing change.
Is there please a solution without PC?

I am an idiot and messed up my phone pretty badly. I was trying to restore to stock through Odin and found a one click method that is for the CAPTIVATE. Obviously I didn't notice this until it was too late. Now my phone will only power on with the battery in, and boots to an AT&T world screen but sits there. Nothing happens when I plug in the USB cord whether or not I hold any of the buttons, so I can't get to download mode. I don't have enough experience to tinker with the insides of the phone with a 'jig' or whatever they're called so I don't know what to try next. Is there any hope of this phone ever working again?
Try plugging your USB cord into your wall charger and holding volume down while plugging the other end of the cord into your phone. This seems to have worked for a bunch of people. You can fix this, just hang in there.

I made a new thread because it was a different issue, the other one can be deleted. I just tried what you suggested and had no luck. Nothing happens. The phone doesn't come on at all when plugged into the wall, with the battery in or out. The only way I can get it to come on at all is holding down the power button and doing that with either combo of the volume buttons does nothing but boot to this AT&T logo.
After researching it a little bit I don't think there's anyway to access d/l mode without a jig, so I guess I'll order one. I'll probably stop by the VZW store just to see if they'll replace it but I'm sure they won't and it was no doubt my fault anyway.

Try another USB cord.

I was in that situation too, until I found out that after I my phone crashed therefore doing a repartition, the volume up key was activating the dl mode instead of down key as before. Don't know why it switched but it worked for me

Especially if you aren't using an OE cable.
I've always had the best luck with the DI01 Odin package, for what it's worth. Then just let the updates run to get you up to date.

I flashed my phone wrong with hemdall now my phone wont turn on. Screen completely black i reboot pulled out the battery everything I can think of can you give me a suggestion. I was thinking about buying a USB Jig.

Can you get into download mode? Remove battery, plug usb, press up+down vol buttons and insert battery.
hey i having same problem but i could see the vibrant samsung screen but my phone won't pass that and like you say about the usb cable and then plugging the battery i can do that as well but how can i get my phone back and running another rom!!!

If you can see the Vibrant Samsung screen just use Odin to flash back to stock

The real solution here i doing a JTAG to your phone or make the Unbrickable MOD (It's very dangerous, a person with Welding and electronic skills must do this).
Another thing you can do is buy a broken Screen phone from Ebay (it more cheaply) and change the motherboard!!
My suggestion would be to continue to try to get into Download mode on the phone. My phone was DEAD no life at all plugged into the wall or PC. I kept trying to get it into download mode and magically after hours of failures, ODIN recognized the device! The phone was still DEAD no life at all on the screen but ODIN had recognized that my device WAS indeed connected. So I continued to flash back to stock and as always with a little patience ODIN was there to save me. The phone automatically rebooted after ODIN was done and BOOM! Good2Go

^^I'm gonna try that and hopefully with some patience it will work. Otherwise I'm also gonna be ordering a jig, they're not that expensive. My problem is the same as the OP's. My vibrant will just not give any signs of life. I was trying to odin to stock from one cosmics ics RC3.1. Wanted to start on a fresh install for AOKP build 25. But then odin decided to fail on modem.bin. then it just hung and phone turned off, haven't been able to turn it on since. I've spent the last two hours trying to put in different combinations and keys and usb attachments to bring any hints of life, but so far nothing. Bootloader update was not checked on odin so I'm pretty confident that its not due to bootloader mismatch but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Sending it back to samsung or tmobile is very far of an option since I've modified the phone to add FFC. If anyone has any advice or hints it would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of hating myself and flashing now since I was very happy with the rom that I had and how everything was setup. I just wanted to try something new for fun and this went and blew everything up.
^^I literally held down the buttons > plugged in the cord > put in the battery > and counted in my head the amount of seconds it took the phone to "normally" boot to where I would "normally" let go of the power button to get into Download mode, lol I know it sounds ridiculous but that's how I did it. It helped that I had my sisters working Vibrant right there, I used her phone to get into download mode and timed the process and used that as a baseline for the timing of trying to get the "DEAD" Vibrant into download mode.
If all else fails a JTAG as mentioned should fix your problem fosho!

Ye I fixed it. One day I did what I had been doing the whole time and it just decided to work. Got into download mode then went back to stock. Our phone is so freaking weird yet I love the damn thing. It really is unbrickable. To anyone in this situation just never give up.
