[Q] hd2 +usb hub = an UMPC? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw someone used usb hub contact usb mouse and keyboard. Can I use this and run Ubuntu or Win 95, like a real computer?
sorry for my English . I am Taiwanese.

Yes, you can.
Ubuntu for HD2 does support USBHost... and I think also some kernels built for Android.
Win95 is bootable from Windows Mobile, x86 emulated on QEMU.. it should be a bit slow.. and I don't think that on Windows Mobile there's the support for USBHost... so.. You can, but only with Linux (Ubuntu/Android).

Win xp x64 : WM 5.0 - will it work?

hello my friends,
i'm thinking about upgrading my desktop OS from Win Xp Pro (sp2) to the latest Win Xp x64 edition.
but i'm afraid that with my new WM 5.0 & ActiveSync 4 won't work in that new OS. hv anyone tried to sync himalaya with Win Xp x64?
another question is about the radio version for WM 5.0. i hv radio 1.08 installed with ROM 1.50g.00WWE and i have no problem whatsoever. my question is what's the different between the radio version. (1.08 / 1.10 / 1.18 / 1.17). sorry if this matter have been discuss before. i can't find the thread.
pls reply. thx a lot
so guys, what do u think?. Buzz, maybe u could give your technical point of view? will it only work on sp2?
that shouldnt be a problem because Windows x64 is also compatible with 32bits program.
From a programmers point of view there should be a problem.
But who knows... its MS.
I would take the chance and try.
my real concern is about the drivers. i heard some people using Win Xp x64 got compatibility problem with some of the software such as the iTunes & Creative Media Source.
maybe the best way is to wait for another month or so for the manufacturers to release the latest & optimised drivers for Win Xp x64.
why dont call MS and ask. they have tech-support for things like that.
pdas dont use drivers to connect to windows it's all handled by
activesync so if activesync works on 64bit xp then any wm5 should sync
u'huh! so what i should do now is just ask someone who is using Win Xp x64 edition to see whether ActiveSync 4 work or not on that OS.
thx.
it works
active sync works on a X64 system without any problems. I am regularly using my Imate JJ with X64. Only problem i have is that I dont have 64 bit drivers for the USB modem.
it works,I tried it once with my blueangel, but one problem that I had was the inability to browse my device in explorer (cant see my documents on the device), but I think I was still using a beta version of async that time, (not sure), but you can 100% synchronize with outlook and other stuff

working virtual machine on vista for ppc

i have a ppc and installed parallels virtual machine but when i plug in my phone my vista recognizes the device but the windows xp virtual machine doesnt read the phone...and i installed activesync...can any1 help? yes it has usb capabilities...(i have seen screenshots of it working)
sry i dont kno how to delete threads...

[Q] USB Boot Ubuntu

I have a Windows 7 64-bit Desktop with a 3.1 GHz AMD Athlon processor, and around 4GB of RAM. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I want to learn to build android from source, but the better step-by-step guides are for ubuntu. If I were to get ubuntu, I would want to boot from a USB flash drive. Would an 8GB USB flash drive be sufficient for setting up ubuntu, the android sdk, and building a rom? Can I use my PC's harddrive for storage while ubuntu is running from the USB? I have found that Ubuntu 10.04 is recommended for android development from source. The only problem is that there are so many different downloads and files with different file sizes no matter how much I search. If someone could answer my questions and post a link with the ubuntu image, and perhaps a guide on how to install it on my usb, I would be very joyous.

you could run ubuntu live off of a usb, but it would be painfully slow. Especially when you are doing cpu/ram intensive tasks like compiling.
Id recomend doing one of the folllowing things:
First/Better option: install ubuntu onto your computer in a dualboot with windows 7
-it will be faster because it will be installed on your computer rather than having to read from the usb
-also faster because all of your cpu and ram are being dedicated to ubuntu
-some people see the word dualbooting and immediately think that its too hard but it isnt. Watch this tutorial: Click here for tutorial
Second option: install ubuntu in a virtual machine within windows 7
-this will be slower because you need to share your computers hardware with windows 7 and ubuntu at the same time
-heres a tutorial on how to do this: Click here for tutorial
Also heres the download link for ubuntu 12.10 (the newest version 64 bit): http://releases.ubuntu.com/quantal/ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso
Some people say that 10.04 is better, but i know lots of devs that use 12.10.
If you still want 10.04 here it is: http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubuntu-10.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso
Yup...true..you can run ubuntu live cd/pendrive but it will be really slow as said earlier.
So wat u do is to download that ubuntu image files.
Then you can use 'unetbootin' for making bootable pendrive.
And 8gb is enough(though 4 will also not be problem in anyway).
For easy installation partition your harddrive to make some 'unused' space(not free..delete the partition as ubuntu needs diffrent partition table,we don't need ntfs partition) for ubuntu.
Now install ubuntu with option 'install ubuntu alongside windows' and you are done with ubuntu part.
Now install android development kit and start working..all the best.

[Q] Ubuntu booted from pendrive on android smartphone

Hi everyone
I was wondering if it is possible to boot Ubuntu or other Linux distribution on android device using pendrive and USB OTG cable. I've got Ubuntu 12.10 installed on my pendrive and I can boot it nearly on any PC. It is any trick to do this on Android? For example using AndroidVNC and Terminal emulator?
Thanks for any replies
PS: my phone is WT19i with FlawlessICS v4.0 if this does any matter

[Q] Ubuntu Touch MOBiLE + Ubuntu PC = sending SMS from PC ?

Hi to all Ubuntu Touch MOBiLE and Ubuntu PC users, testers...
I am hesitating to change to this OS on both upper listed devices , so phone and pc also...
I had also some experinences with Linux / Ubuntu OS in PC, but the touch version is new und untested for me. My mobile device is listed in compatibility list, so its all ,,open,, to test it and pair with Ubuntu PC.
Im moment im using Windows PC with Android Phone (work), so i need to reinstall both systems.
Has somebody experince to pair Mobile device and PC , both with Ubuntu OS and managed the mobile phone from PC ? I ,,saw,, this option on promo video of Ubuntu Phone. I think its shouold be something like ,,HandOff,, on Apple products... But i need to be 100% sure, and i need to know all information about this function.
The reason , why im asking my question is, that im using android Phone for work daily ! I NEED to READ / WRiTE SMS from PC, and sometimes editing the contacts in my phone. So this is the MAJOR function, that im using yet with combination of Windows PC and Android Phone , with MyPhoneExplorer software/client. This combination works without problems !
The only reason to try to change is my aversion of Android phone, the old not upgradable Android version and of course the costs by Windows PC. If its the a free option to make a change to better, modern, than why not.. I think all users here knows the advantages of free open source OS, so i doesnt need to extend this think...
First , sorry for my English , and then..
Thank you in advance for your repyes , comments !
Ron
Hi,
Sadly, that's not possible yet. There's nearly no advantage in connecting an Ubuntu phone to an Ubuntu PC at the moment.
