Did I brick my HD2? In Europe, need phone quickly, help!!! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It all started when I upgraded to the new official TMOUS ROM. I then wanted to install OzROM_5.20_24635 instead since it's TMOUS friendly. But to do so, I needed to install a 2.07-2.12 radio and was not able to do so - the process was stuck at 0%. Now as a result, my phone has been intermittently inoperable. I installed a SimTravel sim card into it (it's unlocked) - it recognized it once, then stopped picking it up completely and would reboot within minutes of powering on. Then I purchased a Lycamobile card and all seemed to be going well, but I just had it crash during a phone call with customer service (for some reason my sent SMSes never make it through, but I can receive them fine) and now it won't start. The symptoms are always the same - seven "buzzes" or vibrations, however you want to call them, and the phone is stuck at the first T-Mobile screen. I've tried hard resets and they have worked to a point - now they don't. How can I restore this thing?
Oh, just got it to reboot by waiting about a minute after taking the battery out... It went through the orange Windows 6.5 screen, then rebooted itself and buzzed seven times again...wtf???

You need to flash a previous offical TMOUS ROM (to get away from the 3.14ROM). This will get your SPL back to 2.10 or 2.08 - instead of the present 3.03.
Then you can use HSPL3 to change the SPL to a 2.XX.HSPL. Follow the rest of the instructions from the OzROM thread.

Where can I get that ROM? Which version do I need?
Also, my problem now is that while I can get the phone to boot, it restarts during the setup process - I can't get to the home screen...how can I flash it in this situation?
Lovely new development. When it doesn't buzz, it shows the numbers (in pink, like the radio version (2.15.something, btw)) and hangs there. Ugh.

Try * HERE *

The phone now freezes midway through the update...the same seven buzzes and nothing...

I read some users reported the same issue, and bad news is that most of them have to bring it to htc repair center (is it a bad news? )

I TRIED EVERYTHING! ROM v. 1.72 Upgrade Radio Stack Problem

Hello,
I recently acquired an i-mate and before doing anything, decided to perform a ROM upgrade. It started with ROM version 1.66.00WWE and Radio version 1.10.00. I followed all the instructions on the clubimate website. The ROM upgrade (Step 1) went well, until I started the English Language customization (step 2). That program froze on my computer and left the i-mate in bootloader mode, even before starting the Extended ROM upgrade for the customizations. When trying to upgrade the main 1.72 ROM again, it gets stuck at the Radio Stack Upgrade (to version 1.14) at 14%, then either exits with no message (Win XP), or gives a Radio Stack Upgrade error message (Win 98 ME). The phone meanwhile says that it is perfuming the radio stack upgrade and to please wait. Waiting for an hour yielded no change. The following is the log file entries of the part for the Radio Stack upgrade:
03:06:42 Connection with USB
03:07:52 Begin Stage 4
03:08:22 Radio Erase retry 1
03:08:59 Radio Erase retry 2
03:09:15 Stage 4 Complete
03:09:15 Begin Stage 5
03:09:15 Write block1
03:09:26 Write block2
03:09:32 Write block3
03:10:08 Radio Update data retry 1
03:10:16 Write block4
03:10:24 Write block5
03:10:32 Write block6
03:10:40 Write block7
03:10:49 Write block8
03:11:25 Radio Update data retry 2
03:12:01 Radio Update data retry 3
I tried many times, but get the same result. I followed all advice on this forum and searched all over for solutions, from getting the device into bootloader mode (power button + action button + reset), making sure that my PC does not have any other USB device connected, that the only programs running are the upgrade utility and ActiveSync 3.7.1, etc.
I also notice it takes approx 1 hour from start of upgrade until the Radio Stack Upgrade, instead of the advertised 30 minutes. Someone mentioned that this Radio Stack Upgrade problem may be caused by a security feature on the Radio Stack ROM preventing the installation of older versions. However, I am installing the newest (ver 1.14), so this should not be a problem. With a hunch, I decided to try the English Language Customization (1.72.800) upgrade again, and the extended ROM upgrade worked, but still no Radio Stack. So now I ave everything upgraded, but a blank Radio Stack.
Now when performing a hard reset, I get the blue screen with "i-mate" written on it. In the bottom right only the version of the ROM "D 1.72.00 WWE" is shown, but it says "No GSM" right above it. It takes approx. 15 minutes to boot (with blue Bluetooth LED flashing), then goes through the screen alignment and intro procedure. After that, it installs customization and boots again. It takes another 15 minutes to boot and the phone functions only as a PDA. Even a soft reset takes 15 minutes (with Bluetooth LED flashing). I tried upgrading again after that, but no use. Going to "Device Information", I see the versions of ROM and Extended ROM, but the Radio and Protocol are blank.
I tried phased upgrading, where I would include the main ROM upgrade file into to the directory where the archive was extracted, then extended ROM, then radio stack. Everytime the radio stack upgrade failed (i.e. stuck at 14%), I would try to upgrade that part only, since all others upgraded successfully.
I am really out of options. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
I asked Carrier Devices (clubimate) about this step 2 because on the official download page all I saw was the step 1, no step 2 and no link to download.
The answer I got was there is no english customization 800, only a beta. The customization or step2 would be presented for arabic or telstar etc based on your IMEI # not for english it is contained in the first .exe
So you MUST have got this 800 customization and maybe the main upgrade from on here because it was never on the offical download page. Only the BETA from the FTP which some hacked into on clubimate and posted on here.
Go to the official download page on clubimate (register if you havn't) and dowload the official .exe upgrade (one file) and see if it will run. Don't get it from here.
RUU172126WWE_imate.exe
Hard reset a couple times and that should be it. The upgrade does take a LONG time to do.
If that does not work, you might have to do a warranty repair, I would use the online chat support on clubimate, just watch for when they are online and ask. I don't think you can just flash the radio portion.
I find 1.72 VERY stable and fast. Good luck!
Hmm.. All files were downloaded from the official clubimate website (I had to register in order to download). Talking to customer support, they were aware of the Step 2 customization file on their site (they recommended it, too). I doubt I downloaded hacked ones.
Still a loss on what to do, other than take it to a service center, that is (anybody do that? was it expensive? took too long?).
I tried a suggestion where I extracted the Radio Stack ROM upgrade file from version 1.66 and installing it separately. Still stops at 14%. I also tried a full reflash back to 1.66, but also same result. Took it to an i-mate service center nearby, was surprised that they didn't even know how to put the i-mate into bootloader mode (I had to show them)! All they could do was try reflashing using the same utilities we use (still no luck). They said that anything more elaborate would require sending it to Dubai. So much for "service" center. So, no luck there, either.
Also tried to reflash to the orginal 1.00 ROM with 1.05 Radio: The upgrade utilitiy that came with that version won't go past the small "please wait...." screen. Just sits there.
Really sad. I didn't even use this phone (figured that the best start is to perform a ROM upgrade). I'm not that impressed with how fragile ROM upgrading is (and I am careful with using only official releases). I thought after the Wallaby, things would be more robust. Maybe I shold dump this thing and get an HP h6300 series.
Note that I managed to successfully upgrade to 1.72 at least once. It was only when trying the 1.72.800 customization did things start to go south.
Also, does it matter whether the SIM card is in the phone or not while upgrading? Instructions are not clear, although they did mention that the phone will behave as if it is out of area.
Another question (desperate and a long shot, maybe stupid), Do SIM cards from say T-Mobile have an effect on i-mate phone Radio Stack ROM (i.e. lock it, etc.?)
ANY help would be appreciated!
i-mate and bootloader
I just got to see the problem as I am going through the same search for answer. How to get to the stage of bootloader? Somehow I feel that the device has crashed: While I was trying to install the upgrade RUU172126WWE_imate, my laptop, and for some odd reason, shut itself down, then auto restarted. The i-mate from that point on did not respond and in fact all lights on the device went blackout. I tried soft and hard resets but to no avail. I even removed the battery for several hours and when I re-installed it, all what it gave me was the word i-mate (but no backlight). Any advise on how I can get the device functional again.
Thank you.
Put your device in bootloader (press the Jog button and the Power button at same time and press the reset switch). Place it in the cradle and re-run the upgrade. That should work OK.
Jog
Thanks for the quick reply.
Power and reset button I know, but I am not familiar with the Jog button on the i-mate (Pocket PC PE). Appreicate your help.
Its the multi-directional button in the middle at the bottom. Press it straight down.

Bricked my phone i think

Hey everyone,
i am so upset and lost; words cannot describe it.
So i installed WM6 black shadow and everything was working except for SMS and MMS. So i am like ok i can live with that for a day till custel' rom will come out. SO i decided to upgrade the radio to 1.43 and boom here is where the problem started, No GSM on boot up. Phone doesn't boot up. I tried install 1.40 over again, still nothing. No i tried upgrade the the rom itself, i tired custel 2.5 and nothing and i tried the new Cingular rom, still same problem. the roms flash all the way. I read the wiki, and saw the mtty.exe thing but that doesn't work for me either. I am really lost and don't know what to do.
Specs

Yeah thats what i meant, 1.40 and 1.43 sorry. You can see how upset i am.
Thanks Again
Well, if your phone turnes on .. it's not a brick.. lol .. it IS fixable... When you turn the phone on does it go RIGHT to the 3 colored screen?
@dan5.5
You need to read the unbricking thread about this, all the info you need is there.

If you are superCID I don't see how flashing a radio could have messed up your phone.. that's weird.

OK im going to repost what ive said on 4wm:
We need to check if your Radio BL is functional, firstly leave HardSPL v7 on there and connect to the bootloader via mtty (il assume you know how to do this).
Issue the following commands and tell us the results please:
1) checkimage (this shows the CRC checksums of each component...id expect the radio image to show a timeout....
2) info 2 (This will verify that your CID is intact)
3) info 8 (does a bad block check)
Once youve done this, flash SPL 1.10.oli to the device and once again connect up to mtty.
4) 'rtask a' this will enter the radio bootloader you will see "Enter Radio Bootloader" or something to that effect
from now on when you type the text does NOT appear on the mtty screen.
5) 'rversion' this should return your radio bootloader version...now unfortunatly if you see nothing...you radio BL is dead and sorry your device is royally bricked. If you get something returned back onto the screen (most probably containing the text '0108') then your radio BL is fine.

do as instructed in that text, post your results here.
I cant falsh spl 1.10 oli. it gives me the 260 error.
the 260 error is not connected via USB right? .. weird... have you tried taking your battery out for a couple minutes, then booting into BL mode? sounds weird but this worked for me when I didnt flash hardSPL firsl..
hey mrvanx's
I can't downgrade the hardspl to 1.10, anyhelp.
I cant active sync, the phone doesnt boot up.
Is there anyway to aviod having to respond on the phone.
hey,
i can get the phone to boot up into windows and then it freezes within a couple min. what should i do. Still no gsm message and no phone. thanks
Dan
OK, so let's try and get you to a working state - I've bricked mine a couple of times and it can be quite heart-stopping, eh?
The first thing I would do is re-download radio 1.43, just incase your current one is damaged somehow.
Secondly, download Black Shadow - I know it's not the ROM you ultimately want but the aim here is to get you working again and we can move forward from there.
First, boot up into BootLoader mode (hold down the OK button on the left side of the phone and the power button and then press the reset button on the bottom, just in case you didn't know
You should come to the three colour screen and it should be reading IPL-1.04 and SPL-2.10.Olipro. If it isn't, stop here and post what it does say.
If it everything is OK at this point, when you plug your phone into your computer, it should change to USB at the bottom. Just wait for the Found New Hardware prompts to clear on your PC and then flash the black rom - choose the hardspl option in the flash program.
Once that has finished and it is at the "tap screen to set up windows..." bit, put it back into bootloader mode as above and flash the radio.
This should hopefully give you a running phone again as I know this combination works OK as I am currently using it.
Fingers crossed, don't panic, and let us know what the results are
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Nothing is working, can some please help me. Is there anyt way i can restore the spl to the original one so i can send the phone back, i just got it like 2 weeks ago. thanks
Also i have a bad block thats what i think makes the phone freeze after i boot it up.
How can i get around this, thats seems to be the biggest problem.
Hey everyone, let me give you more info.
I can fully flash any rom and and radio,
phone will boot up like 1 out of 10 times and then freezes and thats it.
i have a bad block number 6. I have hard spl v7 installed before the phone got screwed up. I cant downgrader the spl to a lower one to check if radio stack is screwed up. Can someone please help me, if you need to ask me more info feel free.

"no GSM" problem. All workaround posted doesn't work! Pls HELP!!!

Hi all,
First of all I want to let you know that I did search the forum for a solution. In fact, I found a lot of workarounds but none of them actually worked.
Let me give some details about my problem: My Hermes was working fine. I was running the official WM6 ROM supplied by HTC, so no customized ROM here.
It was going fine until the WM frozed. Then I soft reset the device and after that I never got cellular signal again.
While booting the device I got the message: "no GSM".
First thing I tried was to flash a new radio ROM. In all the attempts the progress bar never moved from 0% and after a while I got the communication problem error.
Then I tried flashing a whole ROM. This time the progress bar stopped at 81%. Apparently in the first 81% it flashes the OS and in the last 19% it writes the radio. Anyway, I tried this a few times and never finished.
In fact, after every communication error message I got stuck in the bootloader screen.
The only thing that works is to flash a ROM WITHOUT the radio!!
Is there anything I can do to save my phone or am I condemned to use my Hermes as a phone-less pda?
I tried everything I found in the wiki/forums, but I couldn't find a working solution.
I suspect that the blocks of memory where the radio data reside got corrupted, could that be possible?
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance!
Chris
A similar thing happen to me several months ago. While on a call my phone froze and when I soft-reset it the dreaded 'No GSM' issue appeared. I tried flashing radios/full roms/etc, but nothing worked. I ended up sending my phone to the htc repair facility and they fixed it at no cost. (Other than not having a phone for ~10 days)
Thanks dang, but I don't have a HTC service center where I live (Argentina, LATAM)
I'm faithful that the people of this wonderful community will be able to help me.
Just for curiosity, where did you send your device? Is it in the US?
cheers
sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is if i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
How can I try that?

You can use 'lnb' in HardSPL without having a real SuperCID; however you will not be able to flash a radio with 'lnb' command. The radio chipset has its own bootloader, the and the SPL just acts as a pass-through sending the data directly to radio chipset through the s2410 UART.
I had one device with non-responsive htc_boot and tried all kinds of SPL patches to flash htc_boot again on radio, without success. The only known method to fix this is to take the BGA chip out with hot air and reflash it with special hardware, as it is not common to have this equipment at home, your only option is to send it somewhere to do it for you.
However, I don't want to discourage you to research on it, maybe you find something i didn't
I have a similar problem
I also have a NO GSM and corrupted CID but I can access KITL and use it with PB 5.0. and I followed this steps here but the phone doesnt boot completely. It stops just after the two boot screens on Black WM6 ending on a white screen and the debug window on PB after loading all sort of things begin showing these lines over and over:
@@@@@@ HUB state changes now @@@@@@
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN TRUE
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN FALSE
Is there any hope for me? I have the cingular 8525
thanks
Gents, do you think the solution presented in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280425 could help me?
Please advise.
thanks again

first, i'm sorry for my english

I can flash cooked os without any problem, but it's impossible to put official
It's only a pda now, it's better than a brick
My hernes use to be the same as you 'NoGSM'.I tried to install the official rom,but it 's not work at all.I called to service center ask this problem,so they said that it must be only changed the mainboard. That 's terrible!!!

No GSM but when sim inserted
Hi all, First sorry for my bad english.
I also have 2 bricked Tytn Hermes 200. Its not my personal ones Its my company's property, which pple were using this phones. So i'm facin with problem which many pple here having but with exception. both phones having no gsm error when sim inserted but without sim its fine. In other words , device info showing every info including IMEI when sim unavailable. And some times works with sim but after making few call and receiving phone hangs(not system) and goes off from network but anthena signal still showing few bars. I'm thinking maybe the radio hangs totally and goes off, and after soft restart NO GSM. I also tried many flashing upgrading those things nothing can really help me.
When im flashing original rom from HTC (the latest one HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108) its hanging on 12% and doing 3 or 4 times recovery , but its finishes succesfully. So what exactly happening in 12th%?. Maybe its started flashing radio and stopped on bad block ? But then why its finishes succesfully after few retry?. Ok so if any one wants to experiments on the phones except radio welcome. I'll help. And some can give me quick example of how to check bad blocks?.
Tnx.

#1. have you try the comm button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
#2. OR try the comm button+OK button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
anyway, i'm not sure if KITL is dependend on the ROM version. because when my device was in NO GSM status, SPL is 1.04, HTC bootloader is 0108, and lost SuperCID. Because of my device is still has SPL 1.04, i was able to load WM5 full ROM upgrade using WWE HTC English QTEK_001 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 version (ROM available on this site under HERMES Upgrade link), run it twice. once you have successful load the WM5 ROM then try to do step #1 or #2 above to get KITL USB display on your screen device.
Note: i don't think KITL mode is not available once your device is in Production Mode. anyone here can verify this?

My device is still SuperCID and I know I don't have KITL...I have SPL 1.04 as well and HTC Bootloader is 0108. I can't install any ROMs with radios as they will hang at 11/12%. I will attempt this "overload" method where it seems some people have had luck with it...after a few recoveries it just finally installs...but I don't think that will be the case.
If I can't fix this in a few days, I will most likely use my warranty or just wait for the Kaiser.
My variation of No GSM
I feel like I have problem 1A...where I am able to boot into OS but no GSM.
I am still SuperCID, SPL 1.04, HTC Bootloader 0108. Last known radio before corruption was 1.48.00.00. ROM where this problem occured: VP3G 3.60.1.
I was not even in the middle of an upgrade...just a soft reset after my phone ALREADY lost GSM capabilities during a tether session. It was stuck with no signal in Phone Mode...I put it in Flight Mode...then tried to move it back to Phone Mode and it wouldn't do so. I soft reset...and the no GSM stuck.
I tried to reinstall radio...many errors...stuck on bootloader. At first, OS's only were not installing as well but I got past that. Now I am able to boot into OS's with limited capabilities...and they will NOT ACTIVESYNC at all. Regardless of how old or new the ROM is. I tried older OS's that I knew worked in the past for me...but they refused to activesync.
Due to that, I am not able to install latest HardSPL 2.10Oli via SSPL. That seems to be the only way to do it according to my knowledge and what I've read. Maybe mtty was capable but I'm not sure. HardSPL 1.40Oli wasn't giving me any problems though, but I just wanted to have the latest one so I can avoid IPL damage.
I can only install anything if I start the device in bootloader...and I'm only limited to the OS since my Radio Bootloader seems corrupted.
I'm not sure what caused the corruption in the first place...but I feel annoying now posting on different parts of the forum with a problem that seems to be growing in the community.

[Q] Unable to flash any ROM!

Hello,
I'm about six hours into the process of trying to revive a nonfunctional HD2 that I purchased. I'm going batty!
Here is my status:
1) have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL
2) Have downloaded a few different roms (Chucky, TMO official, Energy) but they either get stuck at 0% or 9% (the highest it's gotten)
I'm getting pretty good at pulling the battery - it's like a new skill I never hoped to have!
I'm getting pretty frustrated because I've read about a hundred different posts on this site and I see that people are getting around this, but I'm starting to wonder if my phone has an issue that I can't resolve?
The phone doesn't boot up at all - it just says "Upgrade ROM code error, Please try again". Prior to my goofing with it, it just got stuck at the "Stick Together" screen. (Unwittingly bought it that way)
If I use the HSPL3_PKG to install/remove HSPL, it only works (connects to the phone) about one out of ten times, and out of the ~ten times I have gotten it to work, it only completed twice with a "We Hacked It" screen. The rest of the time it errors out just as I think it's getting the job done.
If I boot to the bootloader screen, I can put the USB cable in and see it change from Serial to USB (I've tried the thick and thin cables as some have suggested and haven't noticd a difference yet)
Then I kick of a rom update using the update utility that comes packed with it, and either the update process stops at 0% or it has made it all the way to 9%.
I'm in a position to get a replacement from TMO via the person who bought it (two for one, wife didn't like it, I bought it off of him) but I would rather not.
Any suggestions?
The part number of the phone is 99HKY001-00 B

If I boot to the bootloader screen, I can put the USB cable in and see it change from Serial to USB (I've tried the thick and thin cables as some have suggested and haven't noticd a difference yet)
Then I kick of a rom update using the update utility that comes packed with it, and either the update process stops at 0% or it has made it all the way to 9%.
I'm in a position to get a replacement from TMO via the person who bought it (two for one, wife didn't like it, I bought it off of him) but I would rather not.
Any suggestions?
The part number of the phone is 99HKY001-00 B

Once you have Hard-SPL on the device you don't need to worry about that anymore. Flashing Roms and radios will not overwrite it, that's what makes it "Hard". To make sure it's on there go into bootloader and it should show 2.08.hspl.
As for the radio, for TMOUS, just make sure it's a x.xx.50.xx radio (not a .51) and you'll be fine. If you have radio 2.10.50.xx you shouldn't have to change it.
So now I would try downloading one of the stock shipped Tmo ROMs (2.13 or 2.14). Then remove Sim and SD and go into bootloader, connect USB to PC and make sure it says USB on the device (not serial) and run the ROM Update Utility (RUU.exe). See if that works.
i also got this problem ,will try ur method n c
after hspl ,cant flash finish radio 2.14 it says ERROR (290) INVALID COMMAND.

You need HSPL..
HSPL done ,i tried a lot of files only Miri & Dinik n Duttys Leo Sense file can b flash successfully ,it went into menu once but now hang at htc startup again,,is this hardware problem?
i had the same problem last week. Drove me nuts.
i found there are more than one version of HPSL 3.
you have to download the latest one. for more info,
read my posts at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789506&page=18
So you need HardSPL3 (the version is DarkForces Team HardSPL3 by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010)
If it still doesnt work, take a photo and post your screen
Still no go...
I have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL, the latest version I could find.
I just tried to flash RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_3.14.531.0_Radio_15.42.50.09U_2.14.50.04_LEO_1.5_Ship and it consistently flakes out at 8%.
I charged the phone all night, booted to the tricolor screen, kicked off the update as an administrator in Win7, the phone got to 8% and then the update flaked out on the PC - "The ROM update encountered communication errors during the update process" (Error [276])
I genuinely think that this phone is bunk - I'm just going to have the fellow I bought it from call in for a warranty replacement.
Thanks for your help, everyone...
SD card flash...
Hi,
I could not see it anywhere in this thread, and also I'm not certain if it is possible on a HD2. But on my xperia I'm usualy flashing from a SD card, copy the image over rename it as KOVSIMG.NBH (guess it would be something like LEOROM.NBH).
Than by pressing (and holding) volume down + power button while the device is off going to the boatloader screen which detects the card (must be inserted and flash from it IF there is the correct file loaded on the card.
Dude,
Did you actually download the HardSPL3 version from DarkForces Team?
If not, dont second guess anything. And if it works, you'll get your phone back.
The file name to download is "HSPL3_PKG.exe". Its by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010
If you downloaded the right version. it will support ALL LEO types, and all the SPL versions below:
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
you just select which SPL version to install in the Choose SPL screen. This version also disables the CID Check.
Dont knock it before you try it ..
+1

Yes you are correct you can flash via SD card. You need a 4GB or lower SD card. This is not to say other higher GB SD card will not work, it is just that it has been stated many times the higher SD cards sometimes work to flash a ROM and sometimes don't. The card needs to be formatted with Fat 32. You have to find the RUU_(wharever).nbh and rename it to leoimg.nbh ( you almost got it righ tsnoffy lol) and copy it to your SD card. insert SD card into phone and hold the volume down botton down anx tap the power button keep holding the volume down button down until you see bootloader come up and say searching then let go of the volume down button. The ROM will flash.

Stock rom not working

Dear XDA Developers community,
my father recently gave me his old HTC HD2. It had its factory default stuff. I wanted to download some apps and play around with it, so I downloaded some apps from the marketplace. As soon as I downloaded a free Sudoku game, and ran it, the phone stopped responding. I tried to do a soft reset, but the phone did not respond either (it was stuck at the menu).
Now, I may have done an error: I removed the battery, instead of performing a Hard Reset. When I turned it on, it started rebooting in a loop, being stuck always at the HTC white welcome screen.
I decided for a Hard Reset. Well, it always gets stuck at the bootloader screen (the screen with the 4 colors).
So, I researched a bit, and found out, you can return to its stock ROM, eve with a stuck bootloader.
Well, I downloaded many old ROMS (the Rom before the problems was a 1.66 one), and ran the RUU through USB. But it always gave me a Incorrect vendor ID error (I think it was 194), so the update would always stop at 1%.
I even tried a 1.43 ROM.
I tried many WWE version Roms, but they don't seem to work. My father bought the phone on Amazon US, with no special contract or phone lock, so I guess it has to be a WWE, so I don't know why the RUU says it's incorrect.
I have seen other threads that have some similarities, but my exact same problem has not been addressed.
I would be very happy if you could help me, since I do not want to spend any money on repairs which I could probably perform with help of the community
I would be most glad to give more information if needed.
Many thanks in advance.
Edit:
The issue was resolved by installing HSPL4 on it, and then using a WWE 1.66 ROM on it! Silly me for not trying that earlier!
glad you sorted it, , to explain why it wouldnt work, you were not using the correct rom for that phone.
Your first clue would be the 'invalid vendor id'. An 02 phone (for example) will only take o2 roms, a tmo phone tmo roms, a voda phone, voda roms. Only unbranded phones take pure wwe roms, so for example
ruu leo htc wwe 1.66.405.2
see it says HTC in the filename? its for unbranded (not sold by a network) hd2s only.
I guess you have a branded one. (even if its been unlocked, the rom lock always remains, which is why we have hspl)
Incidentally, you only had trouble because you initially flashed from sd card, and step 1 in teh sd card flash is hspl gets removed, the phone restarts to continue flashing but because hspl is now gone, it fails. Had you flashed from usb teh first time, it would have worked.

Thanks for the answer Samuel. I got the phone to work again, and I even loaded NAND Android from the DFTeam.
Although the ROM runs just perfect and I love it, now my Volume Up key has stopped working.
I could not post on the Development section, so I guess I won't bother anyone, and will just post it in this thread.
It is a minor issue, but it's still is annoying. I found on the forums problems with the key with other models, but not with the HTC Leo.
Maybe someone has heard of this. Again, thanks in advance!
