Well.. I was going to say a good way to check if you have the latest update is to try and root with Z4root or something.. if it doesn't work.. good chance you are on the new update. (what have you got against rooting anyway? sounds like the new update is perfect for you.. because it hates root too.. )

:-D I have nothing against root I don't even know what it does.
It just I have a really bad history in messing with software ,i lost a very important phone to me because I messed with it. W980

i updated via OTA a couple of minutes ago. The phone was rooted and still is...

I don't want to do thus update and I accidentally selected OTA now I have a notification is there a way to remove it
Sent from my E10i using XDA App

Go to 'Setup -> Application -> Active Services (Translated menu)' and remove one of the running services. I've forgot the exact name as I already removed it. Now open the notification area (scroll the thing at the top down) and select the update. Now select cancel.
Something like that. I've done that 2 day's ago, so I don't know exactly anymore.

Mine said that it has the latest software version. UK firmware.
Someone else uses UK Fw that updated your phone please show me how to do that.
Thanks.

Root, install custom Rom, uninstall device management via TiBu, done!
Probably not the answer your looking for but its one way around it
Cant u just root and delete device management with tibu without having to actually flash new firmware?
Edit: freezing device management with tibu should work just as well

You only allowed to postpone 3 times (for 8 hours options).
Just to bypass the annoyance for now, just go into Application/Running Apps, force stop it. Also in Application/All, clear cache and clear data.
thanks for all the help, guys. i just deleted using TiBu

I finally figured this out on my ss g3 with ICS. did not want the jellybean update. Went to applications>all>software update and deleted data. the notification went away. plus set the update to only when wifi is available. but i guess it will come back once it downloads the update again.

I know this is an old thread but my friend was getting this annoying update and asked for my help.I came across this thread and asked her to get titanium back up and uninstall it but there doesn't seem to be "device management" in the list of apps when she goes under uninstall system and user apps on her samsung S3.So if anyone could tell me what exactly is the name of the app so she can uninstall it and get rid of that annoying notification.Thank you.
edit: never mind hers was an at&t branded s3 so it was named "at&t software update v4".

HELP: problems since root...

OK, so i had rooted my x10a (usa) the other day and couldnt figure out how to get the 2.3 to work from 2.1 and such so i gave up. So today I restored factory settings to get rid of root and did not unroot first, which i take was the wrong process i take it seeing as the problems i now have. Cant download anything, i can go to market but nothing downloads. superuser is still in my apps on my menu but its grey and i cant uninstall it nor can i from market. the only icons are the ones i left that i didnt uninstall when i rooted, so its obvious my system restore did not do anything but hurt me. I tried rooting again via superoneclick and it claims ok your rooted but i cant do anything with market to download titanium etc and the superuser icon still is grey even after shutting down and turning back on.
I have all files on my sd card but this stupid 2.1 wont let me look at sd files from the phone. Is there a way i can get this thing restored back? i can get the sd card stuff onto my phone since 2.1 dont have a way to see files like the newer android does. My avail, precedent etc all with 2.3 android had a my files icon. I went with this phone cus i wanted a faster android phone that was a little older to save money. I love it but i had to ditch 2.1 it had on it. Unfortunately i screwed myself here lol. All help would be great!!!! Thanks.

Hello, you might need to use this as Last Resort. Backup If You Can before doing this!!!
SONY has "Repair Phone'' Option by uninstall and reinstall Stock ROM as before. Follow guide below, its adapted from SONY website:
"Update/Repair your phone via PCC OR SUS
PCC (PC COMPANION) – Repair your software with this .First do the setup without connecting your mobile to pc.(only connect when you are asked to).
Do it as follow >> PCC > SUPPORT ZONE> SOFTWARE UPDATE> REPAIR SOFTWARE (written with blue)
PC Companion http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
SUS ( Sony Update Service) ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe
or
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Both the links are same ''
If the PCC/SUS says ''your update is last update try later", just install anyway.
MORE QUESTIONS: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36287 (probably answered)
Hope this helps
Sincerely,
whitefang

Thanks however my phone can't be repaired back to 2.3 since it's a usa and branded att phone. Which was why I was trying the root method.
Fortunately FXP helped me through it all as. I had some pretty nashy errors I caused. I'm now happily xda 2.3'd lol.
Oh, i see. Anyway, congratulations and welcome to xda. Enjoy

Next time you flash anything, use recovery and make a backup.
If you were rooted you can flash global 2.3.3 stock update with flashtool. I also use AT&T and did this (back in Dec of 2010 )

Software Update Selection Not Working

I was not sure if the Jelly Bean update was there or not so I selected setting and went to the Software Update Selection and it does not move to the next screen where it says check for updates. I have a galaxy s3 rooted with stock so I am not sure if this is normal maybe ATT does not have it activated yet but just wanted to get some feedback from others. Thanks
The jellybean release that is in the works is not for the US version, its for the international version.
Don't know what's happening with your software update thing.

I just was just curious if other people select the software update are they getting the same thing where it just highlights but does not move on to the next screen. Thanks
You can't get Ota update in your device if your device is rooted. Try kies when official jelly beans released.

Thank You thats what I was looking for so as soon as the device is rooted it must disable that function I did not realize this but I appreciate your reponse
It doesn't disable it, it gives you a message telling you that you can't receive software updates because the system is modified.
Keep searching buddy....

Thanks so if you select your System Update on your rooted phone does it move forward to check for updates. I realize that the official update will not work with a rooted phone but want to confirm that this not an issue with my phone.
I can't because I deleted fotaclient fromy phone bit I've seen one or two other people complain about the same thing as you.
If DLI6 gets released tonight/in the morning I'll flash it and check it out before I delete fotaclient.
I'm not going through all the hassle of going back to LG8 and then flashing an ota just to check that.
"It's all in the game, yo..."
Thanks I just wanted to make sure I was not the only one I appreciate all of your help
One last question you mentioned you were reading that other people were having this issue would you have the xda forum link to that post. Anyways thanks again
Well I searched for the fotaclient in root explorer and its not there maybe the root process removed that so either way I guess I have to manually update the phone when the update comes out

Verizon Rep had me update and......

I didnt realize at that time, that the update he was doing would block root. If I factory reset, will it put me back to pre-update so that when i boot up the phone I can root it first thing? Thanks for any help.

From what I have read the answer is NO. I think you are SOL until a new root method is found.
So basically all I can do is take it back, pay 35 buck restock fee, get another phone and root as soon as I get it setup and not install that update?

I believe that is your only option, yes. To my knowledge, there is no way to revert back and you're stuck. Unless you'd like to just keep your current phone and wait until someone roots the new update, but your only other option would be to exchange it.
In your opinion, do you think the devs will find a way to crack this update and obtain root?

Correct. That is *IF* the new phone doesn't already have the update installed, or the sales rep doesn't install the update while activating it and getting it ready for you.
Rumor has it that they already have root, but aren't releasing how until they can find a way to also unlock/patch the boot loader. They are said to be afraid of having Samsung/Verizon block this root method before they can use it to unlock the boot loader. Will they ever get it? Will they ever release the root method? That is anyone's guess.
So for now, it looks like the 16gig DEV edition direct from Samsung, without warranty, is the only option if you definitely want to root and flash custom roms now and "forever". But is it still available? or did they sell out yet?
Spoke with my rep and he told me bring it back, exchange it and all he will do is activate it and hand it right over to me and will not install the update. Now once I do get the new phone without the update and obtain root, can or will that verizon update still try and come thru and ask me to install it?
You can block the OTA updater with titanium backup. I'm not on a stock ROM, so I don't remember the updater app name.

That sucks. You gotta keep your eye on those reps :cyclops:
i never let any sales person set up, activate or even power up any phone i buy. if they chose to do so i cancel the order and buy on line where it comes sealed. i always tell them i'm in a rush and i'll take care of activating it afterwards. only one has ever refused and i told him to cancel the sale since he decided to open a product i purchase without my consent. he did get me a new one after that.

Ok, got a new S4 and this worked !!
Ok, everyone I got a new S4 and activated at Verizon which it immediately started download pretty much as soon as it was turned on. I immediately disabled mobile data, turned it off and then took out the sim card. Once I got home, I hooked this baby up to my PC and rooted...success, finally! I used the I545 all-in-one-root tool which includes OUDS clockwork. http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/30/all-in-one-root-tool-released-for-verizon-galaxy-s4/
My questions is I have installed ROM Manager so that I could do a backup, but when I first open ROM manager, it says I need to install a custom recovery even though I have OUDS clockwork built in. Do I need to install clockwork from within the ROM manager app? I can reboot into recovery, but its the OUDS "generic" recovery, for lack of a better word. Is that recovery good to go for backing up, flashing another ROM or do I need to use the ROM manager to install CWM from with the app itself? Hope this makes sense. Thanks everyone!!
I'm a VZW rep and every time I activate a new S4, the update automatically starts downloading and there's NO way to tell it to "differ" to a different time.
Trust me, its not OUR fault. It just happens sadly :-\
I too hope devs get a way to root past this OTA because I have friends that would like me to root for them, but the OTA just muscles its way through.
I haven't upgraded anyone to an S4 today, but will report back with more info when I do. I'm pretty sure that after we activate the phone, the download starts and the notification just sits there until you click it (then it updates) or if you restart the device, it may force the update. I'll test on my next customer and let y'all know the real answer

My experience with the update is that it will tell you the download is ready and at that point you can postpone it to a later time. It even gives you a little wheel to select when to install the update. The phone is still completely rootable during that time. When the notification comes back you can again postpone until a later time.

That's what happened to me. During the initial setup it was downloading the OTA update. As soon as I could, I enabled "Airplane mode" to kill the update, but no, it had already downloaded and asked if it was OK to install.
I deferred it until 1:00 AM and immediately started the rooting process. Got root, installed SuperSU Pro and enabled Survival mode. I also installed Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, but that wasn't necessary.
So I'm now running stock with superuser available and protected. Unfortunately, no custom recovery.
Since I have been doing smartphones, I have NEVER updated, I wait until someone has tried it. and even then, I wait for a dev to cook it up. And everyone better hope you do not have to do any replacements thru the carrier, you WILL get a bootloader locked device with the newest release, NO bootloader fix.
Need to find alternatives.

Yeah, I ordered my S4 online, and it let me defer the update. It downloaded, then said ready to install would you like to install now or later? I set the timer to 12 hours, rooted, installed recovery, flashed AOKP, and bam, no worrying about OTA updates.

What I suggest is what I did.
Do not place the sim into the phone.
My phone came from Wirefly.com without the sim card installed.
Power up without sim card, boot directly to download mode, connect to pc usb port, run Odin, follow rooting procedure.
Only after you freeze SDM using titanium backup, should you consider inserting the sim card.
Also while on wifi samsung will ask to install update, say no.
P. S. I installed samsung drivers, and Odin. I did not install kies which I have read also tries to install the update.

are these MetroPCS roms usable on T-Mobile with wifi calling? also does anyone know if this fixes roaming that's been broken since jellybean came out?

as far as i can tell besides google drive and a few extra apps and removing root, wasn't much.. speaking of root, i was P'O'd and just flashed to v10b on the hunt for the almighty bootloader unlock.. on v20b now, irrelevant.. has anyone tried rooting after a factory reset? i've seen mixed posts of having root once updated.. i used cydia impactor to root on v10d.. after update root was gone, tried running it again but it kicked up errors.. su could not be found.. i'm waiting another 30 minutes before reverting to stock for the time being.. i'm willing to test it if no one else has but it won't be for a few days.. honestly tired of messin with it for now..
I just got this phone today and it automatically updated to the 10e version. I didn't even have the opportunity to root it at all. I've heard that cydia was the best way to root it,, do you think that would still work? Also, which is the best guy to use to unlock my boot loader with 10e and it being MetroPCS..any suggesitons? I've been reading but would like some useful opinions if thats okay.
Okay, so I finally got the update today. I was on the stock v10d, and rooted. I opened Titanium and unfroze all of the junk I had disabled. Then I told it to go ahead and apply the update. It rebooted and started to update, and I got the fallen down android with exclamation point. Hold power and restart. Boots back into my v10d, except now I somehow have the inverted touch screen again. What? I mean, I know can fix the touch screen easy enough, but what gives? Don't know why the update fails, and I especially don't know why I get the inverted touch. Any insight here?

I think you still have the euro recovery installed, that's why you got the wonky screen. The boot or recovery images will cause the funk.
The update will fail because you have the 2nd init cwm or because you have made changes to the system apk file.
I have a cwm backup of 10e plus the radio files. I know the 10e is in my thread themed lgms769 ROM.
I'm not to sure where I uploaded the 10e radio. Lol I just remembered it's in my themed ROM thread as well. It's not in the first post, look around the end of the thread for the files.
