OK, so i had rooted my x10a (usa) the other day and couldnt figure out how to get the 2.3 to work from 2.1 and such so i gave up. So today I restored factory settings to get rid of root and did not unroot first, which i take was the wrong process i take it seeing as the problems i now have. Cant download anything, i can go to market but nothing downloads. superuser is still in my apps on my menu but its grey and i cant uninstall it nor can i from market. the only icons are the ones i left that i didnt uninstall when i rooted, so its obvious my system restore did not do anything but hurt me. I tried rooting again via superoneclick and it claims ok your rooted but i cant do anything with market to download titanium etc and the superuser icon still is grey even after shutting down and turning back on.
I have all files on my sd card but this stupid 2.1 wont let me look at sd files from the phone. Is there a way i can get this thing restored back? i can get the sd card stuff onto my phone since 2.1 dont have a way to see files like the newer android does. My avail, precedent etc all with 2.3 android had a my files icon. I went with this phone cus i wanted a faster android phone that was a little older to save money. I love it but i had to ditch 2.1 it had on it. Unfortunately i screwed myself here lol. All help would be great!!!! Thanks.

Hello, you might need to use this as Last Resort. Backup If You Can before doing this!!!
SONY has "Repair Phone'' Option by uninstall and reinstall Stock ROM as before. Follow guide below, its adapted from SONY website:
"Update/Repair your phone via PCC OR SUS
PCC (PC COMPANION) – Repair your software with this .First do the setup without connecting your mobile to pc.(only connect when you are asked to).
Do it as follow >> PCC > SUPPORT ZONE> SOFTWARE UPDATE> REPAIR SOFTWARE (written with blue)
PC Companion http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
SUS ( Sony Update Service) ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe
or
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Both the links are same ''
If the PCC/SUS says ''your update is last update try later", just install anyway.
MORE QUESTIONS: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36287 (probably answered)
Hope this helps
Sincerely,
whitefang

Thanks however my phone can't be repaired back to 2.3 since it's a usa and branded att phone. Which was why I was trying the root method.
Fortunately FXP helped me through it all as. I had some pretty nashy errors I caused. I'm now happily xda 2.3'd lol.
Oh, i see. Anyway, congratulations and welcome to xda. Enjoy

Next time you flash anything, use recovery and make a backup.
If you were rooted you can flash global 2.3.3 stock update with flashtool. I also use AT&T and did this (back in Dec of 2010 )
Sent from my X10S using XDA

it says im still on the 1.6 firmware. is that right?
If you were originally on 1.6 firmware, then yes it is right. Rooting is a completely different process from firmware update.
WTF
i did the idiot proof root for my x10 and it went through everything but it's still not rooted. WTF am i doing wrong? HELP
is there a way i can just upgrade my firmware since my phone's rooted?
Just look around the dev section there are plenty of techniques to change and upgrade the firmware... and plenty of guides to go along with them.... you cant currently upgrade to 2.2 but you can do 2.1 easily
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
thank you!!
Well for a start off 2.1 i believe has rolled out everywhere now so even if you look around the dev section you aint getting anywhere without wacking in ya usb cable to ya pc and connected to the phone ofcourse. Install PC Companion which should launch off of your sd card once mounted.
Once thats installed it will say an upgrade is available.
update via pc companion to 2.1
and if root is what your after not just 2.1 update then theres a thread called one click root, its an app for your device called z4root.apk
install that on ya x10 and your rooted with 2.1 my friend
Downloading right now update for xperia mini, I was not aware it was going to be released today, hope its goods anyways, keep you posted when it finishes
Heh really what version would this be? Hows the progress?
Sent using x10 mini pro
50% this are the times I wish I had a 2gigabit connection :/
done
Software version: 2.1-update1
dont know whats new, no intro as past update was shown on startup...
ahh.. phone unrooted, z4root not working stuck on running exploit screen.
How did you update?
Through wireless or through cable with a pc software like the pc companion?
Did the phone tell about the update when you searched for update?
Please I need to know!
pc companion... software on pc alerted of the update when I conected the phone, tried to search for an update from the phone but it told me it was up to date.
got to see about the availability of an update when I connected my mini to my PC and the PC Companion opened up.Went for the update that took such a long time to complete.I see virtually nothing new or beneficial in the few hours gone by.Oh-I lost the ability to root the phone,Z4 doesn't work anymore.
Didn't find any update not even with pc companion
:-/
same here .. there was no prompt when i plugged in the mini pro.
when i opened PC Companion, it says that I already up the latest update.
I'm usually pretty quick on the updates but this one looks like one to avoid until we can sort out the root issue..
I noticed they already have a solution for the Big X10 by installing a pre Rooted version of the update with xRecovery.. any solution like this available for the mini/pro yet?
All in good time I guess.. someone is probably making a Pre rooted, pre JIT'ed pre Gingerbread themed xRecovery zip file with the new firmware as I type this
fingers crossed..
I'm sorry....
Your stock album is now fast?
Because the first 2.1 stock album is very slow.....
I think that you can't extract for us... But....
Me too updated my mini and now unable to root. How to get back to previous one?
I could be mistaken, but i think x10flasher root method still works.
Downloaded 2.1-update1 (as it says on my phone) on the 24th, almost certain its the unrootable version u guys seem to be talking about, as z4root which worked for my 1.6, couldnt unroot this version(i also thought it was root patched)
Long story short, was messing around with it, tried the X10flasher 2.1 root method, hey presto rooted phone. So give it a shot, wont hurt, and if im right, still a viable root method for 2.1.

If im wrong, sorry for bringing hopes up.

It just looks like the Big X10flash GUI's "Root" option just installs Z4root onto the phone in which case it should be no different from just trying to use Z4root to root without the Flashtool... unless Bin4ry just has a different version of Z4root that works on the new firmware? (easy enough for someone having issues rooting with the new update to download his Flash tool and grab the Z4root version he uses out of it to try.. I don't hold high hopes tho, you can always use his flashtool to flash back to the old 2.1 and not update with SE until the root issue is sorted)
(also, I haven't updated my phone in weeks and it say's its running "2.1-update 1" so its possible you are still on the older rootable version, and it was just the version of Z4root you were using wasn't compatible with 2.1, lest hope I am wrong tho cause it would be great if this works!! )
Got the update. It killed my root and apparently my market? Any attempts to start Market crash immediately.
The new 2.1 update 1 is ver. 2.0.2.A.0.24
This is the one i got 24dec. in denmark, and this one wont root with z4root.
Still waithing for this to be fixed
is there any way to root it again?
Hello guys i've been reading the former topics about the update for a while and still couldn't update using the ways mentioned there.
Anyway just check for update this morning through wireless and BANG there is an update available it even gave me the choice to use the computer or to do the downloading though wireless and I did it was more than 8megabytes
The thing is nothing changed no new apps the software is still 2.1-update 1
Can you get root?
Actually I don't root so never tried and never will.
Sorry

Well.. I was going to say a good way to check if you have the latest update is to try and root with Z4root or something.. if it doesn't work.. good chance you are on the new update. (what have you got against rooting anyway? sounds like the new update is perfect for you.. because it hates root too.. )
:-D I have nothing against root I don't even know what it does.
It just I have a really bad history in messing with software ,i lost a very important phone to me because I messed with it. W980
i updated via OTA a couple of minutes ago. The phone was rooted and still is...
I don't want to do thus update and I accidentally selected OTA now I have a notification is there a way to remove it
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
Go to 'Setup -> Application -> Active Services (Translated menu)' and remove one of the running services. I've forgot the exact name as I already removed it. Now open the notification area (scroll the thing at the top down) and select the update. Now select cancel.
Something like that. I've done that 2 day's ago, so I don't know exactly anymore.
Mine said that it has the latest software version. UK firmware.
Someone else uses UK Fw that updated your phone please show me how to do that.
Thanks.

Update to 1.8.3, run GingerBreak, and viola. If you don't have sideloading, or are waiting for a ROM to provide it, push GingerBreak APK by ADB install or GingerBreak.exe (which does it for you).
Well i tried to update from my phone after i hit install to newest update.. it reboots and comes back with a exclamation point in a triangle and the little green android guy. Tried it twice now, had to take out my battery to get back to my phone. Any advice would be nice. thanks

What do you have on your phone? Is it rooted, do you have a custom ROM installed...we need more details before we can help you out. If you have GingerBlur or any other custom ROM installed, what happened to you is normal. You'll have to flash back to stock before you can install the update. Or you can flash the update itself.
More information would be very helpful.
Thanks for the quick response! im not quite sure on what roms are really lol. I dont think i have any installed. This is what i did. Got my phone it was already on 26. I used Gladroot to get to .57, then i was rooted. Now i want to get the new update. So i tried to update straight from my phone and it did what i had said. So i have to flash back? Last time i tried to flash i couldnt seem to get it to work. Thanks alot for the help.
So basically im on a rooted .57 from factory 26. I just used gladroot straight from when i got my phone to root it.
If you can give me any info on this it would be much appreciated. Thanks
cant really search for this seeing as i wanted to ask the developer directly but i cant due to new user restrictions but anyway...
i downloaded the generic shell helper from bunny... GSH-RC2.rar to be exact
and my question is will this program be able to disable root regardless of the method used?
before you ask, no i did not root the phone myself and the person that did it for me is out of touch. i do beleive he mentioned Zerg- if that helps at all.
thanks for the help guys

Though you don't need to unroot to take the update here are some instruction to unroot.
I don't know if that will unroot you, but I do know that an app called Supersu will.
Step 1. Download SuperSu from the market
Step 2. Delete Superuser.apk from /system/app
Step 3. Open up Supersu and update Su binary.
Step 4. Scroll all the way to the right and go to the bottom
Step 5. Select Permanent Unroot.
Your device will be unrooted!
well the reason is that ever since i had the phone unrooted, it wouldnt allow me to update the phone, as it was installing the update it would say update failed. im not sure if theres a difference between unrooting and "returning to stock" as my cousin put it.
anyway ill get on that right now and see where that puts me.
thank you so much
** actually before i do anything, i wanna clarify if unrooting is the same as returning to stock.
ive never done this before so please bear with me lol, i guess whats most important is that i dont lose the photos i have....contact can just be re-synced on google

No, unrooting and stock are 2 different things. Unrooting, obviously, just ranges away root privileges. you can think of returning to stock as re-installing windows, like you just bought the phone.
Photos should be fine, a they should be stored on your external SD card. If you are worried about losing your pics, just plug your phone into a computer and copy your pics to your computer.
