I own a tmobile vibrant and for some reason or another through a flash gone wrong a strange thing happens! When I firt boot up my vibrant the first screen I see is
G-I9000 with Samgung on the bottom (white lettering)
Then it quickly switches to "VIBRANT" then boots normal onto Nero V3
Anyone have a clue what I did

I had that also when I needed to use eugenes froy that doesn't brick. If you tried that rom there may be a little peice still on there. It's most likely nothing. Just a bonus boot animation.

if there are no problems other than an extra animation I wouldn't worry about it
You seem to have flashed a rom that was with the ported i9000 kernel. It won't cause any problems, but any newly released roms don't have this anymore, I'm curious what rom you flashed.

You get that when you flash a rom built with an I9000 kernel, probably one of Eugene's.

I can't recall what ROM I flashed to, I was trying different thing to get my Vibrant unlocked and found one suggestion to try the I9000 ROM

Probably doable with odin, but safe? Not unmodified... When the first i9000 froyo rom leaked a few vibrant people flashed it right away. It goes straight to recovery, which would be ok, but we couldnt select anything because the buttons are mapped differently. So they tried to flash back to stock, and fount the first and sofar only way to truly brick these devices.
The i9000 rom was modified by eugene 373 for safe use on our vibrants. So I assume someone could do the same in reverse.

Ok can someone answer a few questions for me I have a stock vibrant with a stock 2.6.29 kernel and would like to flash a new kernel so I can begin overclocking but I would also like to flash back to my original kernel just in case can anyone explain how to make a back up or do this any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Are you rooted? Im pretty sure that too run a different kernel you need a diffrent rom other than the stock JFD.
You might get more answers if you posted in the right section.

i would get to know ODIN real well first off. make sure you are able to get into download mode. via the hardware method OR ADB
use the Vibrant bible to find info on that.

Not trying to be a wiseguy but:
Read the "Vibrant directory ( Bible ) and search this forum. Look for the subjects you're interested in. All questions are answered you just need to study before you start.
Learn how to use odin - if you follow the links you will have everything you need to get back to stock in an emergency.
Read about and learn how to use one click root.
Read about and learn how to use Rom Manager to flash roms
Use Titanium backup to backup your apps

Ok real quick I have odin I have the stock vibrant rom from xda I am pretty good with this stuff just new to this phone I also have a few roms but kinda wanna wait for 2.2 but would like a new kernel I have rom manager and a back up of my rom but I am having a problem getting adb to work just been using the terminal apk but I need help.with this and thank you for your time

everything works as it should and its fast and very stable.
OP you need to spend a couple hours reading and understanding several things. Most if not all you need is in the vibrant bible thread. If you can't get adb to work its almost always the driver. Must understand odin just in case something goes wrong. Its hard to truely brick this phone but not impossible.

No, that only saves your data and apps. You need to save it or you can use the ones located in the vibrant library. You can always revert back to stock using odin but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK... Good luck

The Bible is the greatest thing EVER.
Just seriously use how to use Odin. If you can learn how to get into download mode consistently and connect to odin successfully you will be fine. Then learn how to use recocery, which is very easy on the vibrant. you just install ROM manager from the market and flash clockwork mod recovery. learn how to backup and restore and you can flash things through recovery. Zips are for recovery, and Tar files are for Odin. If you want to OC i recommend "Corev2" by team whiskey (since JAC has dissapeared) which works with most ROMs and should work well with stock rooted. There is Odin files and zip files for stock kernels, jfd and ji6, which you could just flash over if you dont like it. Nandroid backups dont backup kernels, so make sure you have the right kernel on when you restore something. You can find everything in the BIBLE like everyone has told you to try. One word of the wise, if you load a Froyo 2.2 on your phone and then revert back to 2.1, make sure you flash a 2.1 kernel first before you restore. So many people think they brick after they do that.
And usually if you are waiting for official firmware, it appears here on XDA ready to flash (i flashed official ji6 before it was availible OTA) at some point. I would recommend you use a rooted ji6 ROM with Corev2 (and possibly the ji2 modem to save battery life but i like the ji6 modem) this will let you OC and UV without setcpu. this is kind of a scattered response but im just trying to help. I am running AOSP jk2 1.1 by Anderdroid and i LOVE IT.
It looks like you have everything ready on your phone.
Just learn Odin, you don't really need ADB. Make sure your phone can go into the download mode via the vol up and vol down key and connect USB cable for download mode. Its a Triangle Icon with android robot with shovel.
There you should load the Pit file and Tar file to flash back to Stock in case you brick you phone. As far as flashing ROM goes, remember this!!
If you flash a 2.1 Kernel + ROM like Fusion 1.2, and create a Nandroid backup through ClockWork. Then decided to go to a Froyo 2.2 kernel + ROM like Obsidian or MacnutR11 to try out. Do not restore Nandroid backup to 2.1, it will brick your phone requring u to ODin back to stock.
Bottom line 2.1 ROM will not work with 2.2 kernel and 2.1 kernel will not work with 2.2 ROM. Don't mix them up.
Basically if you are running a 2.1 kernel + rom, then switch to 2.2 kernel and rom. For some reason you don't like it, make sure you flash back to 2.1 kernel + rom instead of doing a nandroid restore.

Yeah saw that too. Went in their IRC and asked but the ppl who were on told me it would only work with I9000 and the Captivate-i897.
I'm in the process of getting in touch with Darky to see which is true haha. If it does indeed support everything now, there will be a special installation method for Vibrants.
Go ahead and flash it...your problem not mine ;-),I flashed it and paid the price,it will not run on U.S. models....it will wipe your phone of everything,so be sure to back up everything on your pc as I did luckily.
It wont damage your phone or anything but make sure your near your comp unlike when I flashed it lol becuz it will wipe all....I had 3 other roms to flash back to on my phone but like I said,it litteraly wiped everything

Yes I just attempted this 2 weeks ago,and no I wont be trying this again,but I will say this...if you want a thurough wipe,this will do it lol.
It litterally will wipe everything,all folders and all info. Im not trying to be against his rom cuz I sure would like to run it,but it was not compatible to my sgh-t959 by any means.

Yes, it WILL work on a Vibrant but it will have a major BUG. The bug is the same as jellette/Heathen's Ragnarok 2.2.1 port that he tried a month ago. The phone will restart when it reaches a certain network strength value. I'm talking to jellete now to see if there is a fix for that but I don't think so as of RIGHT now.
If you wanna flash it though:
You need two things before you flash.
ENSURE you are on a 2.2 Froyo ROM (or 2.2.1 if you can get one). You will need the modem and kernel from the current ROM. Ensure the Kernel is i9000 based. This means you will need to use Morfic's DoW 1.4 or Ttabbal's Dragon 3.6.
Get the Darky's ROM App configurator from the market.
Get the Darky's 9.3 beta 1 ROM and copy it to your phone.
Using the app, uncheck flash kernel and modem. You do NOT want the flash to flash the i9000 kernel and modem that comes with the rom. You want your old ones.
Reboot into clockwork, flash the modified Darky ROM that DOES NOT include a kernel and modem.
Reboot.
NOTE: The Rom WILL WIPE your phone. You've been warned. Back up EVERYTHING and anything that may be of value to you and have ODIN ready in case anything goes wrong.
it seems too complicated, i'm a fan of darkyy's roms because a friend of mine has a I9000, and he had it running, and it was amazing, and no rom on Vibrant can compare to it. YET. The Devs here for the Vibrant are awesome, but darkyy's got more experience i guess, but his roms are just... faster, better looking for some reason.
I just PM'd Darkyy, and will reply on this thread if any response is made.
I suggested to him that he can chat with our Vibrant Devs as well and try to make it compatible with our device.

There are really only two permanent fixes if you want 2.2.1.
1. EDTs 2.2.1 which is a hybrid at this point, incorporating the Vibrants stability with the 2.2.1 speed.
2. TWs Frost which is pure 2.2.1.
Neither of these are based on I9000 though, both are based on the V4g.

Hey guys,asking for help since I need it!.i have a samsung galaxy s4(tmobile vibrant) froyo 2.2.1 kernel 2.6.32.9 build number--Froyo VUVKD1..I remember upgrading to that build in early may through kies software.Now I have stock 3e which you know wont let me run clockwork..im aware of trying the modified 3e,but apart from that is there a custom kernel to put via odin..since the build is so new im afraid theres itsn"t one yet for that build.also I never use odin before maybe I can be sent to a link for detailed tutorial.btw yes Im rooted deteleted a bunch of bloatware and running voodoo control plus.thanks in advance guys!

You need to check but in Odin I think the pit file you will need is the 831.pit one NOT the 512.pit
Other than that, Odin will work just fine I do not know if there are any tutorials that are really out there. It flashes basically the same as the vibrant you just need the correct rom or software.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but you don't have a vibrant, you have an sgs 4g. And they *JUST* recently got a working cwm for the 4g. And none of the kernels or roms in this section will work on your phone. Head on over to the sgs 4g section to get stuff that actually for your.phone.

My wife has a vibrant and i was wondering how to update it to gingerbread roms. We bought it from a friend who. Already rooted it and has bionix v1.3.1 on it. I'm notbto familiar with the vibrant. I've rooted my g1, hd2, and now my nexus s. Can I just download the gb rom and flash it in recovery?

Best thing to do is read. First check out the custom bootloader thread. While the bootloaders aren't required they do solve a couple major problems. Next check out the different GB roms for instructions. I've posted instructions for coming from froyo in my thread as have others.

First of all you already have one one of the most stable ROMs on that phone already. Second there is no official GB ROM for the Vibrant and even though there are alot of GB ROMs out there for the Vibrant, they are not from the true source so they won't be as stable as the Froyo ROMs avialable with battery and GPS being the main issue. The reason Im telling you this is if your wife is like my wife that bearly just learned to work a smartphone and will come to you for any issue, you're better off flashing the most stable Froyo ROM out there for her, but if I'm wrong and she could deal with issues herself then take your pick out there.
If you do decide to stay with Bionix 1.3.1 just reboot on recovery and see if he still has the bionix zip file store in the sd and just reinstall it and it will do a full wipe.
