I... cannot flash in my HTC Hero GSM/WCDMA. It doesn't get to recovery mode. Only a typical touch phone with exclamation mark image appears when I'm going in for flashing a custom ROM.
This is my first Android on which im trying to flash custom ROM. By fastboot.exe, i tried to flash roms, spl... tried to root it - but the error's always there : FAILED (remote: not allow)
here's the summary of my phone as written on what i assume to be a bootloader when i press back and start the phone:

No it doesn't work either I can't get to recovery
Did you follow the instructions in this guide to get root and then flash the recovery image?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Sounds as thou you don't have a recovery flashed to your phone yet.
If a recall btdag did a step by step guide for people to root and install a recovery, custom rom etc. Just search this forum and you should find it.
Ah, see someone already posted link ;-)

Good luck!
Thanks guys for the help. the tutorial worked for me! I now installed FusionROM 2.2.1... not really satisfied with the ROM, but its good anyway.
You are lucky. So always make a recovery backup...Try Tegro 2.4 rom, if you want to try some different roms

Or if you're willing to part from Sense, Floyo and FroydVillain are two excellent options. Floyo has the best battery life and stability of any ROM I've used, and that includes the stock ROM that came on the phone!
Ok, i'll try those. But i can't see any Froyo with Froyo homescreen... It's a Gingerbread launcher I'm using right now...

This is a guide that hopefully makes things easier so you don't have to use Fastboot but instead use this app....all credit goes to joeykrim......
Searched everywhere and didn't see this info covered. So if this has already been stated, I'm a noob, and I apologize.......
So I found this app made by joeykrim a few days ago to be quite useful......Sadly my EVO 3D came out the box with HBoot 1.50 and my only option was to use HTC's Unlock Method....As you may know this method doesn't allow you to Flash custom kernels or roms with custom kernels baked in VIA recovery....the workaround was that you had to flash by using fastboot.......until now.....
So let's say your running your favorite sense rom, and decide that you wanna try out miui or cyanogenmod or vice versa.......normally you would need your computer to boot into fastboot, but thanks to joeykrims Flash Image GUI app you can flash the AOSP or Sense kernel, then the rom, and there you go....
1st Step: Download and Install this
http://www.google.com/m/url?ei=rS2b...UQFjAH&usg=AFQjCNHcnCXbd0CBHe3gdtDDbSG8eGuM2w
2nd Step: Download an AOSP Kernel if you moving from a sense rom to an AOSP rom.....Download a sense kernel if your moving from an AOSP rom to a sense rom and place it on your sdcard.
3rd Step: Open the app and select Kernel Image.
4th Step: Tap browse and navigate to the .zip that contains your kernel and select it......
5th Step: Tap Flash Image......Wait for it to finish flashing.....
6th Step: Reboot while holding Volume Down button.....
Final Step: Flash the rom that goes with your kernel.....if you just flashed an AOSP Kernel flash an AOSP rom, if you flashed a sense kernel then flash a sense rom......
Enjoy and i hope this was helpful..........

free?
this program isn't free?
OK I don't have 1.5, I am lucky with 1.4 s-off. Thanks for posting this!
BUT, I have a nagging question, and am only asking because I don't entirely understand the unlock process for HTC, and the flashing thereafter.
I the s-off world, if you flash a ROM after a kernel, you din't keep the kernel, because the ROM has one in it. So my logic tells me that as stated in the OP when you flash the kernel first and then the ROM, the same thing would happen. I assume it's because if you flash a ROM on the go with 1.5, and not via fastboot boot recovery, it never writes the boot.img. SO in flashing the kernel first and then the ROM, it actually still holds the kernel flash? Right? Lol sorry, just curious.
Also, if this app bypasses boot security, has anybody tried a splash screen with it to see if it bypasses that too?

I have unlocked my HTC Evo 3d by using the HTC unlock Method.
fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img
and installed from sdcard su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
all this worked fine but I wanted to try a new rom to so i went into recovery and installed warm.honeysense.3d0G.3.3.9.zip and it is now stuck at the sprint logo screen.
i have tried wiping the phone, factory reset, and even installed the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip again but nothing.
I have read a few threads trying to figure out how to fix this but I have no idea.
if you can please help out a noob in this issue that can later become an android developer?

You do realize at the top of that thread it says: Honeycomb Sense 3D:11/27/2011 ALL THEMES UPDATED! plus added clean and synergy themes and it's located in Themes and Apps?
You need a ROM to flash first, then the theme.
Look HERE for ROMs.
Themes are NOT ROMs.

I remember on my G1 I flashed a radio and freaked out when it didn't boot and got flamed just like this
Good memories haha
lol yeah that'd be your issue OP - these phones don't run too well without a ROM. Go into the development section, find a ROM you like, flash that first. If you have hboot 1.5, fastboot into recovery first or you'll bootloop, then flash ROM, if you like that theme you linked earlier, flash that next after the ROM, then it should boot hey at least you learned something right
Thanks
Thank you all!

Seems stock, we need a screenie of the kernel and baseband version to tell you what firmware version you have although it looks like the ics ota.
Boot into bootloader by
1. Pull battery and replace
2. Hold volume down + power until hboot shows up
3. Look at s off/s on status, radio versions and if it says unlocked or tampered at the top.
Tampered means there is a custom recovery installed and probably rooted, this is good if you wanna flash a ROM.

Looks like you have the leaked global ics ruu firmware from mid 2012 and a rom based on it. Since you are still s-on, you may find it difficult to revert back to anything older (such as the official ics). The kernel looks to be the one included in the leaked ruu as well.
Hi mate,
Is that mean something? Bad or good maybe?
So the step is make it s-off, flashing the rom, and.... Am i right?
I dont get any trouble with thia phone. I just want to know are there any better setting than i have? If not maybe i'll stick with this one. (for battery and performance maybe)
Looking forward from you all...

1. S-off. You may have to relock to perform the s-off. I can't remember. Go do your research before starting.
2. Flash venom Rom. This is an ics Rom with zero bugs.
3. Flash the team bamf kernel (made by same developer) this kernel will increase your battery life by about 50%

S off might come off as confusing..
It's not necessary some kernels will flash via ph98img (the bootloader will search for this and ask you to install the update)
Joelz (maker of viperrez and bamf kernel) has implemented this in his rom and kernel.
If your s on, normally you would need a computer to flash the boot.img separately via fastboot commands (search more about using adb and fastboot)

You don't need to s-off. S-off makes flashing a ROM a little easier by automatically flashing the kernel afterwards, but as was mentioned, these days a lot of ROMs make the kernel file for you and the phone goes to hboot and you just accept the update and it flashes it for you.
s-off makes it easier to brick your phone. So it may be better to stay s-on until you get the hang of the Rezound way of doing things. I'm s-on and on the same global leak and I have no problem with it. The ROM I run, EclipticRez makes a PH98IMG file for the kernel so it's easy peasy.
So you are probably ready to flash a ROM. But I would check what recovery you have on there. Boot into bootloader as you did before then navigate to recovery. The two main ones used for the Rez are Amon Ra and TWRP. Amon Ra is currently at v3.16, I don't know about TWRP but you can find it in the Development section and find out. Then once you know you have the latest recovery you can flash a ROM. There should be instructions in the thread for how to flash the ROM and if you need the kernel separately the dev usually posts it for download, otherwise you have to pull it out of the ROM and flash it using fastboot.
Seems a lot to learn.
But, thank you guys.
I will keep searching the forum to find out more info before i decide to flash.
Thanks for al advices and nice to know you all here.

I don't think I have. I am assuming you have S-Off, if so lets start all over again, first wipe, then install the rom, then get the kernel from the zip you just flashed (the rom) and get the boot.img and flash that through fastboot (which you should have on your computer already, right)
