[Q] which voicemail app do you use? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I believe I've tried every one on the market, and they all seem unstable and shakey to me. Except for tmobile visual, but the UI for that makes me sick.
Can anyone share any voicemail apps you may have found outside the market, or even from they market that alot of people may not know about?
Sent from my pocket rocket!

Why don't you try out Google Voice for your voicemail? It's really easy to set up and you even get voicemails transcribed for you.

Unstable and shaky?
I use google voice to handle my voice mail and works great.

[Q] Visual Voicemail Like iPhone?

I recently switched back to android after a brief iPhone run and the one thing I really miss is the visual voicemail option where you can see all the voicemails on screen.
Is there anything out there someone could recommend for this?
I saw something about google voice, but don't you have to change to a new number for that?
If you download the google voice app, you can set it up to not make any calls and act as your new voicemail provider. It's really great.
You'll have to rerecord your greeting, but you can access your voicemails from any computer and it even transcribes them for you! Just open up the app and it helps you configure everything.
*ninja-edit: No new number required. You'll get a Google Voice number but you by no means have to use it.
Youmail works great. Free app, works awesome, some cool paid options too.

I use phonefusion..its just amazing.I can even get faxes on my cell phone..try it..free
I've been using Google Voice for my voicemail ever since I got my first android phone. Works perfectly and makes viewing and organizing voicemail SO easy. Especially since it blends in with the phone so smoothly

[Q] Visual Voicemail like iphone

is their an app that can give you Visual Voicemail like iphone?
I love the android, but the voicemail system sucks.
will this maybe be something that will be in ICS?
have you looked into google voice?
I'm interested in this also. I miss my iPhone's visual voicemail.
Google Voice and YouMail look like viable options...
Does anyone here actually use either?
a lot of people use google voice. the transcriptions are pretty weak but the voicemail service is pretty convenient.
+1 for Google Voice

Try AT&T Messages. It has visual voice mail with transcription and it also serves as a hub for all your messages/calls/voice mails. I have been using it for a while its very good and free also.

I tried this, it seemed to be slow, and freeze. It would not open at all for the first week. I could get in online, but on the phone it kept saying try later. Its an awesome concept, but implementation is poor on the current version.

Google Voice is the best. Voice Voice mail + free SMS + cheap international call (free to Canada) and deep integration with Android than any other platforms.
+1 to Google Voice if you *need* that type of functionality.
Google voice works great. Visual voice mail plus transcriptions, access from any web browser, it can email or text you the messages, etc. The transcriptions aren't perfect but 80% of the time I don't even need to listen to the message.
I'm using AT&T messages, and I love it.
It works flawlessly, with no slowness etc. My phone is on stock rom, and unrooted.
The only thing I don't like is that you also get notifications for sms, even though I prefer the stock sms app, so I end up with double sms notifications. I consider it a small price, since I've been dying to have a good visual voicemail app for a LONG time.
I have used google voice in the past, but had several annoying issues with it, and honestly just didn't like it.

Hi:
Thanks so much for the suggestion.
I had already thought of that, but the problem is that if I turn off the messaging notification, it disables the slide to missed text on the lock screen, which I love.
I am stuck crossing my fingers that At&t decides to update the program so it has more options.
Thanks anyway
At&T Messages prevented my phone from lighting up when a text was received.
I uninstalled it and things went back to normal. Drove me nuts trying to figure out why.

yeah, i just uninstalled AT&T Messages because I wasnt getting notifications and missed a bunch of texts.
Okay using Google voice now, and it's awesome. for some reason the first voicemail I got, GV transcribed the whole message, then after that all other messages said they can't be transcribed, whats with that?
the transcriptions are pretty bad, unless the person speaks clearly and slow. I woiuldn't worry about the transcriptions. I see them as a bonus if they work
So the visual voicemail they showed at the ICS presentation, was that just for Google Voice?
He said something like Google Voice mail integrated into the call log. I bet it is.

Google Voice Voice Mail vs. Stock Voice Mail

I have been hearing alot of people using the google voice voice mail over the stock voice mail. Can someone chime in and explain what are the advantages of using the GVM vs stock? Also how do you go about this? Any help is appreciated.
In my case, its I go Google VM for the network saving + the many other features of Google Voice.
I rather not lose my Voicemail access between devices & so I like accessing them from anywhere.
Google Voice can be used for just VM but I cant help you there as I've fully integrated. I do recommend going Google Voice entirely though.

I completely integrated, it works great. They are supposed to be working on integrating mms too but so far it doesn't work well
You get another phone number that you can have forwarded to any other phone or multiple phones. You can set people in different groups and set different options for each group. You can have different outgoing messages for each contact or group so your friends here one thing, but your boss hears another. You get great long distance rates using your google voice number. I think it's still free to Canada. Perfect if you don't want to give out your real number or if you want one number to consolidate a bunch of phone numbers. You can block numbers you don't want calling you anymore. If you're going to be busy you can use the "do not disturb" feature which sends people right to voicemail. You get so much more space for voicemails. And they are all organized just like google mail. You can star messages and keep them forever.
So much and it's all free. Why not just try it? Here's the google voice features video
I finally got it setup properly a few days ago and I'm loving it. Blown away by all the features. During setup, using my phones browser, when it got to the part where I called my phone from the website (ON my phone ), and I recorded my greeting from the website on my phones browser , I knew this was some good sh1t.
And I love having the voicemails accessible directly from call log.

If you haven't already, try adding grooVe IP into the mix to really have your mind blown.
I really like it anyway. The only small drawback is about a 2-3 second delay on (free)voice calls

Voicemail Question

I'm running Peetr's Hybrid rom and noticed that It doesn't have a built in voicemail handling app. So if someone leaves me a voicemail I just get a really wierd text message instead. I was using PF voicemail for call forwarding and voicemail since I was having major service coverage issues and that will tell you missed calls no matter what. But I don't want to use that anymore since it's slow and I'm having problems with it. So my question is. What do I use for voicemail? Is there anything similar to that visual voicemail app that originally came with my phone? Free would be great but if it works I would shell out a couple bucks.
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm using the AOKP JB Rom (thx 3bill) and get multiple text messages for each voicemail. Personally, I loved the visual voicemail that came stock and I'm hoping there's a way to port it in. You can still check your voicemail though just by dialing yourself. BTW, how do you like that Rom as I haven't tried it yet but am loving the AOKP one?
Well this rom is about as good as it gets for me since I have a locked bootloader. But it is very nice compared to stock. I'm using Google voice right now for voice mail and it works pretty good so far. I just wish my texts didn't show up in it at all.

I use Google Voice. It's very configurable. When a voicemail comes in it can notify you by text, e-mail, etc. plus the standard functions you had with visual voicemail that came with the phone. The key is to go into Google Voice web site settings and prevent it from prescreening your calls and handling your texts.

Yep. I just found that out today. I was wondering why the hell it kept asking me to press numbers to answer my calls.

You can turn that off in settings. Not on the app, but on the website. It refers to feature as 'call screening'.

Let's talk universal SMS.

What does everybody do for their SMS/MMS needs?
I have typically used Google Voice for *everything*, but with the Note II, I feel like using the built-in MMS because the stock messaging app (and third-party ones) are just so much better looking. They also allow MMS, which Google Voice doesn't.
I installed Google Voice integration free version, and it actually worked pretty decent on the Note II with CleanRom 3.5. But then I started thinking that maybe I should look for alternative 'universal SMS' apps like Google Voice, but that support MMS so I don't get the situation where somebody MMSes me on my GV number and I miss it. Whatever the solution is, I need a web interface to text from, too.
I am currently on a cruise and use GV to text and stock MMS for pics. They both use data so I turned on the the international data plan for $25. It works like a charm. I can even use GV for voice calls over data. No need to switch SIMs in this situation. I guess if you are traveling to another country for a while a new SIM may be more cost effective, not sure though as I haven't done the math.
I work I a hospital basement with no cell service, but I have data. I use text plus for texting w/o mms, grooveip for voice calls. Google voice will shutdown after too many texts it seems at least when texting by browsers.. I also don't like Google as it never seems to display the first message of the day until someone replies.

I love Google Voice. I suggest setting it to forward texts to your real phone number (it's in the settings on the web) and then you can use 3rd party apps like GoSMS to reply to messages which will then go through your Google Voice number. It's a little confusing but totally worth it for the convenience of Google Voice.
Samsung is pushing their service called chatON. I am using it. So far so good. It is battery friendly. Just wish more of my friends using it though
