[Q] Which MicroSd Card? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I want a new MicroSd HC Card for my Hero.
After doing some research on the internet, I am confused...
Some people say, that it is senseless to buy an expensive class 6 or 8 card for the phone, because it can not handle the extra speed a card with a higher class has.
Currently I own a Toshiba Class 6 8gb Card,
but this one has not enough space.
I thought about buying 16 or 32gb.
Do you have any recommends for me?

150 views but no one can answer???
poor!

I bought a 16GB micro SD card from play.com - their own make I think. It only cost £15.49 including delivery. It is working fine for me - I use it for sat nav and music mainly and have had no problems

I do prefer Kingston's SD cards. Never had any problems at all with them, and they seems to work pretty good, and fast.

i bought 16gb class 6 and it works perfect. i can load anything i want; mp3, videos, photos...you can buy without any doubt

Maybe because not every person in this world is able to go every day to his computer or because the answers weren't satisfied enough??
I actually asked for one product I should buy and not just: Buy a 16gb class 6

Does anyone have any experience with Ridata cards? I've use alot of their CD and DVD media and have been very satisfied, price on the card is good..
Just wondering, if nobody has any bad experiences I think I'll order.

Cons: I got one, worked just fine for 3 week. Of course, all info (GPS maps, pictures, music) was lost. The second one I ordered, worked for 3 days.
I just trashed 100 bucks, plus Garmin maps, music, etc. Get a SanDisk, a little expensive but works "for ever".

Yeah, I saw that, but I rarely trust reviews on sites like that. too many noobs not knowing whats going on. I was hoping to hear from someone who's got some knowledge about who makes the cards for ridata and or from a respected member that owns one.
well if you dont trust reviews on websites then y are you looking for reviews here? the same ppl here are likely to be the same people reviewing things on newegg.
i know i post reviews for every product i buy from newegg because i like to do lots of research on products i buy and use reviews from average joes who didnt get the product free so they would give a good review regardless.
Thats way too expensive i would say, first of all.
Go to Target, get the Transcend 16GB, its like $45...the 8GB is like $30....I havent had any problems with this brand since i switched after having 3 failures on SanDisk's.
They are CLASS 6.

Good point , lol, I did pay $23 for it, but like i said, Target had it for $27.99, but used employee discount. I hate waiting for UPS delivery...
I have had 0 issues with this card:
Transcend 8GB Micro SDHC Class 6
$16.99

Questions about microSD cards

So I know that many of these questions could be answered through some googling, but in general I trust the people here more than on other sites. I recently bought a G1 and rooted it and put on the latest stable cyanogen mod, etc. just to make sure I could do it, but now I want to invest in a bigger/better sd card than the 1GB it ships with so...
What are the advantages to getting a class 6 card? Are there any roms that won't run right without it?
Is there any reason to get a 16GB card as opposed to an 8GB? (or a 4GB for that matter)
(I know this one is very much a matter of opinion) What's your preferred brand?
Thanks for any answers to any of the questions!

the advantages of gettig a class 6 is SPEED
roms will run without a class 6, but to enjoy full speed, youd need a class 6.
welll i think 16gb is too much. 8gb is jsut fine. they are about 20 bucks or less on amazon. 4bg are like 10.
and a prefered brand is sandisk ofcoarse, or transcend.
thanks! i'll look around on amazon
I was just using the stock class 2 2gb that came with the phone, but I figured i'd try a class 6, managed to get a 4gb transcend from amazon for like, £6 including shipping, and the difference it makes is HUGE especially if you are thinking of taking any of the hero roms for a spin
Well worth getting imo. As for what size to get, it really depends on what you want on there, I found 4gb to be perfect for what I needed.

I think class 6 is a must. Many of the latest ROMs are maximizing the G1's potential and I wouldn't want to do anything that hold that back.
As for size, it's purely personal. I shelled out the big bucks for a 16GB because I have a ton of music on my phone. If not for that I'd go with an 8GB since a class 6 Transcend is only ~$20 which isn't a great deal more than the 4GB. With the 8GB you can ensure that you will not run out of space when you need it.

16 GB micro sd class 6 card for our HD

i'm interested in the two following cards that i found on e-bay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/TOPRAM-16GB-16G...C_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item4cec018066
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-EDGE-Tech-1...gital_Camera_Memory_Cards?hash=item5d26f2c39e
did anyone maybe bought the and tried them?
I never heard about those manufacturers before so I'm interested in the quality.
Micro SDHC Card.
Hi !
I have been testing a lot of different cards, and my recommendation is this
Transcend Micro SDHC 16 GB Class 6
And it has lifetime Warranty!
With kindly regards MacRoy
MacRoy, thanks for your post
I know tha Transcend and San disk are the leaders in this field but i'm interested in the above mentioned cards because they are the cheapest i could find on e-bay.
I would like to know if anyone has actually used them so they can tell me what is their quality?

Just purchased this one myself, waiting for it to be delivered. An 8 GB Class 6 Transcend card came with the purchase of my HD and it's been the best card I've owned so it was an easy choice for me. I wouldn't go cheap on something like this personally, you get what you pay for.
I bought the 16gb class 6 earlier today because my 16gb class 2 is starting to give me and my computer MAJOR problems. Up until now, the card has worked like a dream. I can't wait to see how much faster the class 6 will be like
i bought this card a few days ago
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250561131115&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
waiting it to come...
i'm hoping it's gonna be delivered in a 2 weeks period so i'll give my opinion then on the card speed
the card has arrived....
by putting it in my PC the higgest speed I got was 5,2 Mb per second
I would like to make some more test so if anyone can give me some tool for testing the actual speed of the card I will report back with the results...

I have attached the screenshots of the results...
I have taken 100MB and 1MB in the settings. If that was not ok, please tell me what to put and I'll make the test again...
by this I screenshot I would say that the card is 6MB or am I wrong?
hello,
I bought the "Transcend Micro SDHC 16 GB Class 6" and since I can't flash any ROM, I formatted the card several times (FAT32) but to no avail,
you see the same thing?
Also this card is not compatible if you want to switch on Android.

my card is not transcend but I didn't formatted it when i got it... i just made a restore to defaults and once again installed all of my programs on it.. did you try that?
maybe you should format it with NTFS instead of FAT32?
but i don't understand why you said that you can't flash any ROM? did you try doing that already?
Looks good. Did you try copying 16GB worth of data onto it ? Some of these cards could be fakes and have lower capacity than stated.

by now i have 13,1 GB of data on the card... still haven't filled it to the end
in the SD properties on the phone it says 15185.50 MB of storage availabe... i suppose that that is 16 GB...
I know youre all speed freaks - and youre talking about the class 6 cards...
But i just ordered this one (16GB, Class2, ~22$) (urgh - china product... - i never trust those *g* - but the price is just half of all i've seen before)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270528336681
as the 8GB delivered with the HD also just was Class 2 i thought thats enough for me...
And it's just a third of the price for the class 6 cards youre talking about.
Actual my question is - what do we need class 6 for?
Don't missunderstand me - I don't want to flame anyone for buying class 6 - but in my case about 7 of 8 GB are static on the card (means i transfered it once to the card and it never changes - Music) and 1 GB is dynamic (new Progs and new Music,...) but even this doesn't change every day all at once but about 20mb every day (max).
So with class 6 we save some time on the first copy progress - agree.
And every day about 10 seconds.
I know the example above is just for me but I think it would fit for most of u *g*
So why all people are so keen on this class 6 ? (i ofter read about in this forum not just in HD section)
btw. the tested speeds of those cards - most are tested in external readers are they? Does our HD even reach them in USB mode? or even worse - in ActiveSync mode? Cause i don't take my card out every day to copy some files...
greetings
Edit: k some people might watch videos on their HD every day which could take a while to sync - but USB and ActiveSync quests are still out...
forgot the video thing - cause i just once watched a video on my HD half -> battery life is not made for in my opinion

it all depends on what do you need it for...
for me class 6 saves me a lot of time because i download approximately 10-20 GB of music a month, and somwhere about 20 GB of movies and tv shows...
so basically i transfer somewhere around 1-4 GB a day from my PC to my card...
true, if you're doing that through the USB or ActiveSync you probably won't see the difference, but i often don't have the time to do that so I use the microSD adapter and transfer it a lot quicker to my sd card than it would be done through the USB or ActiveSync
on the end it all depends on what you're looking for and for what price...
Class 6
From what I see, don't bother with class 6 16G. I bought one. Testing the speed on sd card is great but once it put it on HD, it's no different than my Class 2 8G. Could have just purchase a Class 2 16G.

Hi,
I just got an email from ebay asking me not to finalize this order because of problem with the seller.
It seems that this is a scam.
Be careful.
Bemi
the question is not "what is the fastest class 4/6 card" in my eyes.
I bought the HD with the standart 8GB.....class "dont-know"...
of course I thought following:
higher class, bigger card = more expensive than slow and small...
so I tried to find out which card is included....
I found NO information about it. there is nothing to find on the HTC site.
no seriuos information to find on forums...
and nothing "written" on the card itselfe.
so I thought about buying the best and fastet card (testet with real test equipment).....
BUT
because the card-speed is degraded by the hardware you try to read/write....
and there is not a single information to find about what a HTC HD can handle....
(I asked the HTC support and did not get an answer at all)...
I decided to DONT buy another card at all....
I see no advantage to buy the fastes card it the cellphone is not able to use it.
SO : Is there anyone here, how can say that it is worth to buy a class6 card e.g. ??
if : where do you got the information a HD can handle the speed at all ?
thanks
alex

[Apps2SD] New apps on SDCard setting on Villain 5.5 & sd class question

Hi all,
I'm quite sure I had this setting in Villain 5.4, but since I got 5.5, this setting is missing in settings->applications. Is there a way to put it back easily, or maybe my customizing the app2sd script ? Or at least, can I execute the script again sometimes to do it ?
Also, just another question : I know someone who has a 16gb sd card class 2 on a desire (great phone btw) and I said that since he moved his apps to sd, he don't feel any difference, even with class 2. Does it worth buying a class 4 or 6 when these are twice or even more the price ???
Thanks

It very much depends on the quality of the card. My Sandisk 16gb Class 2 card writes at 7.5mb/s, which is faster than the class 6 minimums.
Regards,
Dave
This is the one I thought buying, because it was the cheaper without being an unknown company
Where did you get yours and at what price ?
Amazon - see here.
Regards,
Dave
OK, thanks, that's the one I saw too just asked to be sure that I have found the best price
now, anyone regarding my first question ?
FYI,...
Here's the one I'm considering at the moment,...
Transcend 8 GB Class 6 microSDHC Flash Memory Card with adapter
Customer reviews
"...I was getting write speeds of over 6MB I think the fastest was something like 6.70MB per second..."
"... Write speed with this card is the slowest of the lot, barely creeping above 5.3MB/sec..."
Hmmm,... I really dont know,... is this a good buy?
Considering the fact that the 16gb Sandisk seems to do its jobs very well, I'd rather buy the 16gb one...

As i am ver eager to move my apps to SD so thought of having a good investment with me..

oh,i can't agree more.
as i bought a fake one last sunday.
totally no use.files i copied in mostly gone!
Yes suppliers are the most important part. I bought a "brand" but it was Counterfeit. I was able to get money back when I confronted the seller who feigned innocence but he was quick to refund
I got a class 4 32gb with a tiny usb adapter since all my card readers didn't handle the shdc cards. Now I have 5000 songs + backups and 2gb free.
