I am fed up with the Nexus One and this chronic power button problem I've sent it in for four times, and no GPS. No more HTC for me.
Looking for a newer phone for T-Mobile that gets 3G or 4G. No hardware keypad, and working GPS. That's all I ask.
I thought the Moto Atrix might be it, but it can't do better than EDGE. The Photon (Sprint) seems to be only WiMAX.
It seems that T-Mo has only LG and Samsung phones, and I am not enamored with either brand.

I swore to myself I would never buy another samsung phone, but I ended up with a white galaxy s2 since it was the best phone at the time and it has been great so far (if you don't mind not having ICS). Perfect actually.
I have turned the Motorola site upside-down looking for a fairly current phone that would work 3G or better in T-Mo, but no luck.
Don't trust Samsung or LG, although I'm sure they make fine products. I've been very happy with Motorola phones since cellular services started. Wish for the Droid Razr, but Hate Verizon and ATT for cooperating with warrantless wiretapping.
Wow, nothing else?
Trying to determine if the Droid 4, Droid Razr, or Defy would work.
The Defy is a decent phone and really the only Moto on T-Mobile I could recommend, assuming you can find one. They are outdated as far as stock, but the Devs have kept the software up to date and are even working on ICS/CM9. I don't think the Droid models would work on a T-Mo network at all.
Get a HTC amaze and use the screen off and lock app.. then use go locker or something that allows using power AND volume buttons etc for waking.. thanks to the separate video and camera buttons you'll be up to 5 buttons configurable as power.. besides I think they (htc) are the best made phones

I have an HTC sensation, which HTC has made 2 updated versions, the XL and something else but i have the standard one, but its 4g, 4.3" screen, hd 1080p video recording, 8mp camera, and when running the elegancia Rom which is great quality you get ics plus lots of features, call recording, WiFi calling, volume button awake. It's really a great phone, id get the newer version XL, its got a 1.5ghz processor plus more ram, I think a gig over my standard sensation with a 1.2ghz and 756mb ram. Both are great, I'm sure you can get a regular sensation for 300 bucks somewhere on the web.
Also HTC released the HTC One, don't know if they are for t-mobile, but they are the cream of the crop for the HTC line. Gonna be pricey but well worth it.

If you really want to look for some more selection, try researching phones made for the Japanese market.
Many NTT Docomo phones have the needed 1700/2100 frequencies needed for T-Mobile 3G in the United States. I have heard of people running some of their Sharp and Toshiba phones here without issue.
Thanks all.
I have lost all confidence in HTC. GPS has never worked, mic quality is not good, and this chronic power button problem that I have sent it in four times for. Now they charge me. No more. They ditch me -- I ditch them.
I like the MIUI.us rom best, and have the vol keys set to wake. (built-in to the rom) Use Toggles to lock it. This is tolerable for now. Has recording and all the other niceties. I think it's the most advanced rom out there.
I've used Motorola phones since cellular service began, and they only ever failed if I broke them. I trust the Motorola phones and wish they worked with T-Mobile more. I will stay with T-Mobile as they did not cooperate with the government's unConstitutional warrantless wiretapping.
I'll check out the Defy. Maybe I can wait a while to see whether Moto comes out with something better. I wonder whether the Photon would work on T-Mo?
You are judging HTC off of a phone that is years old. There are many options for good phones on T-mobile. The Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Nexus if you want to pay for that, the Nexus S. I just came from the HTC Glacier which was amazing all the way around. Great GPS, no hardware issues whatsoever and a huge dev community. The Sensation is a great phone, better than the amaze from the research I have done. Almost all newer phones available aren't going to have GPS issues, so go to a store and pick which one feels better in your hands.
I am judging HTC for a phone that I paid $550 for which never could do GPS or compass, and which has a chronic and recurring power button failure that is a known design problem which HTC refuses to repair without ransom.
If a company intentionally refuses to correct their own glaring mistakes, it is dishonorable and they are no longer worthy of trust. Maybe I am just old-fashioned, and you youngsters see GETTING SCREWED BY CORPORATIONS as a natural state of life...
I do not. HTC ditches me, so I ditch HTC, and tell my friends.
A couple years ago I bought a Jaguar XK-8, a $76,000 car. Two years later it turned out that the timing chain tensioners (made of plastic) were failing on all those engines. Well that is a $15,000 repair. Jag refused to stand behind their car, and so many of us who can afford their cars, have turned our backs on them. As Dubya says, Fool Me Once... {splutter, gork} ... eh Ya Can't Fool Me Again.
I've had a rooted Evo 4G LTE for 14 months now ... my first smartphone ... but have decided to move on and upgrade. I still love the phone, but I'm moving on because it's flashed to work on Page Plus (Verizon MVNO) and I can only get 3G, plus I'm only grandfathered in to be able to keep the phone on PP, and if I should ever get kicked off that network, I can't get back in.
I've got an HTC One M8 on the way, that I bought on Swappa. My question ... what do I do to get all vestiges of "me" off the Evo, as far as clearing my data, accounts, etc., before I do something with it?
I've researched the "standard" process for doing this, I was just wondering if since this phone is rooted, I need to do anything special. I basically was just going to toss this out on the Swappa Boneyard or eBay and see what I can get out of it, not going to put any money into unflashing it because I don't see the point given the pittance these phones are going for right now. I just wondered if there's any way to keep root and keep the ROM I'm using on there (Yankee's ROM) when I do the reset, although I fear if anyone unflashes the phone it might mess that up. I'm still sort of a newbie on such things.
I take it you didn't do the rooting of the phone or flashing of the ROM yourself?
Didn't do the root, did flash the ROM after researching it here.
Have decided just to hang onto the thing and use it as a wi-fi media device (have put Hangouts on it to make phone calls) and camera.

Hello everyone, just a quick intro about myself- I used a LG Venice with Boost for 3+ years till I washed it with my pants (but I got it to work! Ask if interested). For a replacement phone, we picked up a LG Stylo, which is great, but I want my own phone now (sharing with wife?! ) I absolutely love the new features and camera system, so I started researching the G3 LS990. I can't find a straight solid answer for "migrating" a Sprint phone to it's child's network, Boost. It seemed simple enough, they share the same network, etc. But as I dug deeper, it does not appear it's that simple. In short, some people report features not working, like LTE data or no data at all, sms not working, same with mms.
After a week of researching, I thought even a gamble of $150 +/- $50 for a good used/new G3 wasn't worth it and decided to bite the bullet and buy the G3 from Boost for $330.
INTERESTING PART IS when I went to the Boost store to purchase, I talked with a knowledgeable rep that explained some phones Boost has "are directly from Sprint, just with the Boost UI loaded" (not sure if I'm using terms correctly). "And the G3 is one of them". So the Boost G3 is really a Sprint G3 LS990. So I said "then it's really no different if I get a LS990 from swappa and a new sprint sim/uicc and activate it" "Right, and load Boost ...UI (?)... on it" I can't seem to find success stories of using a LS990 on Boost (sms, mms, LTE all working).
Has anyone had success with a Sprint to Boost G3 LS990?
I'm pretty techie, I just haven't played with phones this deep before, but am willing to give it a try, I'd just like to know it's possible. I've never rooted a phone ( would love to try! But not right now unless it's a 90% success for sure!)
Any advice, input, direction would be most appreciated. I'm really excited to finally take a step into this.
Thank you,
Chris
This involves ESN cloaning, which is illegal to talk about here, and illegal period. Only certain Sprint phones are allowed legally on Boost network

You can activate it on Boost mobile directly without any modifications! I just did it myself last month. It's still not showing up on the byosd page as a phone that is allowed but they should still activate it anyways. Just call their 1800 number and speak to an agent and tell them you want to re-sku a phone and they will ask you for the info on the back of the phone. Some of the customer service reps don't know how so if they can't just hang up and try again with another rep. I purchased mine from someone on craigslist and didn't even have to get a new sim for it to work, just as long as it's been taken off the original owner's plan and has a good esn. They will walk you through the whole activation process and after that everything should be golden (LTE, MMS, Voice, Texts). If you need any help just let me know :good:
I'm a Boost Mobile rep....meaning I work in one of the stores. In order to activate a Sprint phone on Boost Mobile it must reach 2 conditions, first being not stolen the other being it must not be on contract.
Boost just added the lg g3 to the bring your own sprint phone list. Anyone know the difference between the sprint rom and the boost rom? Is it only the logos? Probably not worth switching? Anyone know if this sprint phone will do ota updates on boost? I couldn't care less about the boost zone or any of those boost programs.
Thank you very much for your reply, malvarez92 and 6th_hookah!
I did not get a g3, but I didn't want to be d-bag and not reply. I instead got a flex 2 from boost (LS996, $279.99 ). I never got to touch a g3, but I did play with as many phones as I could find, and I'm super happy with the flex2. Though I didn't get the g3, this was still very helpful and it's info for others.
:good: :good:
Works
I have a LG G3 LS990 and it works just fine on the boost network.
Thanks for the thread i wasnt sure about getting boost activated on mine either because of data speed lol.. Well if u ever need root or help on the flex 2 u know where were at lol
Just wanted to let u know that someone posted a boost mobile patch and i guess it works with any carriers phone to flash it to boost. Its on here just search boost mobile patch.

Since my LG G3 has active Sprint service, does that mean I need to cancel my service with Sprint before I move to Boost? I have already verified with Sprint that I do not owe anything on my phone, it is mine now, and my current billing cycle is paid for so cancelling will not be a problem. Once I cancel service, do I still need to do the re-skuing? I think the Boost dealer mentioned this procedure to me and said he could do it for me. We tried starting the process but whoever he was dealing with on the line at Boost support center said it could not be done, possibly because it was still active with Sprint. I appreciate your help with this.

I hate coming here and looking like an idiot, but here goes!
LG V30 (ThinQ), H932, U.S., T-Mobile, all stock, all updated.
Wife and I upgraded to S20+ 5G, because T-Mobile doesn't have great service in a few places near me, and they swore 5G would be better. BOGO deal. We unbox, oooh, aaah, and we download SmartSwitch. My transfer goes off fine. Hers, the Play Store seems to not want to download the app.
Phone restarts, now it hangs on the T-Mobile splash screen.
Wife didn't have any auto-backup, so there's a few thousand pics of the kids that are stuck on this thing. I need those pics.
So, the challenge is: I can't wipe it in the process of unbricking it.
Good news is: I am willing to totally destroy this phone to get those photos. We have a replacement already, so whatever.
I can get to the download mode, but that's about the only good news. I haven't rooted a phone since the G1, so I'm rusty, but I have cables and I can follow instructions. Can anyone suggest something to help me out?

If you root, that will wipe the phone.
Do you have pictures automatically backed up to photos.google.com?

Right, so rooting isn't the way to go.
No, there was no auto-backup of any kind. There's probably a photo dump from a few months ago, onto her laptop, but I'm not sure how recent it is. I checked her Google account.

Hmm, I can't really think of a good solution. I'll try and think more
But in the mean time I'd say try calling LG and ask them if they could recover the data, they should be able to do that for a small charge I think.
Losing pictures would be very saddening

Don't know about T-mobile but some carrier stores like AT&T have service techs with boxes and cables to connect which can transfer off data from one phone to another. Maybe they can get it into some kind of "safe mode" and transfer off the data.
Of course, doesn't help that T-mobile just closed 80% of their stores due to the corona virus (SARS-CoV-2).

I used to be a manager for T-Mobile retail.
The boxes that they have are pretty basic. Biggest limitation is that phone settings have to be perfect, if you can't access them, the boxes won't work.
Is there anything out there like Fonepaw or Dr.Fone that will work?
I know some phones have an SD card stored on the motherboard, and you can remove it if you tear the phone apart; that would work if I could confirm that this phone is made that way, but I watched 3 tear downs and got nowhere.
My Verizon 5g , the UW does not show up next to the 5g when I know im on an ultra wide band area. My Samsung S21 proves this s s its UW icon appears.
The LG appears to be on the ultra wide band when I speed test. Its just annoying that it won't appear at the top of the phone.
I've reset the network in settings and updated the phones software.

Mine always reach 5guw but I got a replacement phone from the insurance company and it never reached 5G and it won't even update to Android 11 and they won't do anything about it. I swear because the phone is paid off white when the LG V60 came out so I never had any phone payments and then never quit to help they just said to me the phone gets the best signal I can From The Towers which basically means the best I can pull is 4G it's very aggravating and I tried to update my phone a million times on my own with my laptop with several Verizon text they told me to call my insurance company and get one more replacement and then they'll take the next steps to help me fix it. I called the insurance company and of course they say Verizon does not authorize replacement phones for any Network signal or software issues go figure I'm screwed no I just got to get a completely new LG V60 and I hate having the . I just learned of something called the LG Bridge I'm going to look into that and see if that will help me update the software I've tried it 20 times and it says failed every time and I've had the phone at 100% battery level I did it on Wi-Fi I even used it on my laptop with the Verizon Upgrade assistant. I got a feeling I'm going to have to buy a new LG V60 5guw from obviously Verizon and I hate having a new phone and having it back everything up. Besides I have the LG 5 it was the first phone ever to have the seat charger with the detachable battery it was amazing. And now this LG V60 was the first phone to come out with two screens and the 5000 battery and its features and functions still after 3 years I believe it's just as good as a Galaxy s22 Ultra and that's saying a lot how good this LG V6 phone is I want to hold on to it for another 5 years lol
