Lg v60 verizon 5G UW - LG V60 ThinQ Questions & Answers

My Verizon 5g , the UW does not show up next to the 5g when I know im on an ultra wide band area. My Samsung S21 proves this s s its UW icon appears.
The LG appears to be on the ultra wide band when I speed test. Its just annoying that it won't appear at the top of the phone.
I've reset the network in settings and updated the phones software.

Mine always reach 5guw but I got a replacement phone from the insurance company and it never reached 5G and it won't even update to Android 11 and they won't do anything about it. I swear because the phone is paid off white when the LG V60 came out so I never had any phone payments and then never quit to help they just said to me the phone gets the best signal I can From The Towers which basically means the best I can pull is 4G it's very aggravating and I tried to update my phone a million times on my own with my laptop with several Verizon text they told me to call my insurance company and get one more replacement and then they'll take the next steps to help me fix it. I called the insurance company and of course they say Verizon does not authorize replacement phones for any Network signal or software issues go figure I'm screwed no I just got to get a completely new LG V60 and I hate having the . I just learned of something called the LG Bridge I'm going to look into that and see if that will help me update the software I've tried it 20 times and it says failed every time and I've had the phone at 100% battery level I did it on Wi-Fi I even used it on my laptop with the Verizon Upgrade assistant. I got a feeling I'm going to have to buy a new LG V60 5guw from obviously Verizon and I hate having a new phone and having it back everything up. Besides I have the LG 5 it was the first phone ever to have the seat charger with the detachable battery it was amazing. And now this LG V60 was the first phone to come out with two screens and the 5000 battery and its features and functions still after 3 years I believe it's just as good as a Galaxy s22 Ultra and that's saying a lot how good this LG V6 phone is I want to hold on to it for another 5 years lol

[Q] Sim phones on sprint ? (please read in full)

Hello my sis recently purchased an sprint iPhone 5s about a week ago from eBay it arrived with no Sim and I didn't think that was a problem as sprint is CDMA well trying to activate it was a different story talked to sprint after self activating wouldn't work and found out it did require a Sim so got transferred to sprint international and got to order a free Sim from them it arrived and activation didn't work talked to support and guy said I was sent an android varrarent of the Sim after he checked the numbers and I would have to reorder an iPhone compatible one they gave me free overnight ship and it came and activated fine my question is tho
Would it be possible to activate cheap Chinese phones like the goophone or there new s5Clones/generic android sim phones on sprint. I ask this question because the only Google results I could find were from like 2008 and older So not to relevant today and BTW I still don't like iPhone over priced fads that do half as much as a android

i would of thought this thread/topic would of had a lot more traffic who wouldn't want a cheap replacement Chinese phone as a backup in-case of accidents or theft and loss on the sprint network.
i basically just wanted to know if possible because last time i knew of sprint was cdma only still but i don't understand why they would have android sim card
You will have to check pretty carefully to make sure that the Chinese phone has the correct frequencies for use on what ever Carrier you go with. There is an article here discussing the pros and cons of getting a Chinese branded phone.
One thing to note is that the Moto G pretty much takes every Chinese phone to school and for not really that much more $$$.

yea there are only a few company's i found the supports hspa+ net10 / with an at&t sim i figure at&t too but i believe every usa gsm network if i recall correctly supports voice and text bandwidths
my dad purchased a n9776 about a year ago and his data speeds on net10 with an at&t sim was around 15-18mpbs down before they rolled out the new plans for net10. now hes thinking of switching carriers the apns keep switching and loosing connection every other day causing his mms and data to stop working until we reenter the settings. but i'd like to know if sprint would be a viable option in the future (much better customer support). recently his charging port on his phone broke so he looking for a new phone. ill show him that moto g

How do I determine if my new Ebay-purchased LG G3 VS985 is truly factory unlocked?

My 21 month old VS985 crapped out 4 days ago. I believe it's an issue with the digitizer. The screen just stopped turning on altogether. When I tried it out again the next day, I discovered that sometimes when I let it sit for a while and cool down, I'll be able to turn the screen on for 10 - 60 seconds. After that, the screen freezes and slowly glitches/fades out. But it's only able to turn on sometimes. Sometimes the screen just won't do anything at all. That's the only thing wrong with it though, I've been able to use it with TeamViewer or by casting my screen to my TV.
(Any advice for replacing the digitizer will be very appreciated, even though that's not the point of this thread. Has anybody here done it? Is it necessary to remove the screen, or can I replace the entire screen/digitizer assembly? I tried to replace the broken screen of my Galaxy S3 a few years back and it was a complete disaster, because after I spent several minutes trying to heat up the glue with a hair-dryer and pry the screen off, I ended up just making the entire screen shatter much more into a billion little shards. All of which obviously destroyed the digitizer as well. Sigh.)
...
Anyway, none of that is the point of this thread. To replace the phone, I bought another LG G3 on ebay. It was listed a brand new, factory unlocked black 32GB VS985 for $175. The seller has 99.9% positive feedback (3 negative points out of 2,827) and the phone did indeed come sealed in the factory OEM box, with all of the accessories and everything. It's definitely brand new.
However, before I give the seller feedback, I want to make sure the phone is actually factory unlocked. Because if it's not, I will likely contact the seller and request a partial refund for a portion of my money on account of the item not being exactly as described.
The description of the listing says, "Brand New LG G3 Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone Factory Unlocked" and further down it also says, "ESN's Are Clear and Can Be Activated on Your Verizon Line, They Are Also GSM Unlocked to Use With AT&T, Cricket, Straight Talk, Metro Pcs, and More."
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't "factory unlocked" mean the device will work on all the major US carriers? Or does it mean it will only work on the carriers who share the same bands that are built into the LG G3? I don't know much about the technical side of this subject at all, so a little advice/correction would be really nice from you guys. It'll be a bit disappointing if the phone doesn't work with Sprint or T-Mobile, etc, but I'll live. I just want to make sure the seller described the item accurately before I leave him (otherwise well-deserved) positive feedback.
Thanks for reading!

Sounds fishy to me. As far as I know, the VS985 is Verizon only. But, I could be wrong. Just not sure it's a legit offer. But that's just my personal opinion. Someone might have a more educated answer on this, but for me, I would have avoided it.

All Verizon devices are factory unlocked as is. You can freely use any made-for-Verizon device on any carrier that the device's radio frequencies support. Unfortunately, the VS985 only supports a few other frequencies, some of which do require enabling on your own in order to use - and that's not the same kind thing as being "factory unlocked", but Verizon themselves do not restrict the device from being used on any carrier, and some other devices like my VK810 support even fewer radio frequencies than the VS985 making it harder to use with any other network, but not impossible.
Bunches of people in these sections have made posts about using their VS985 on other networks, which besides enabling particular radio bands that the VS985 supports, sometimes only requires changing the APN (and the SIM obviously). The software does complain when a Verizon SIM isn't installed, but it's just an annoyance and doesn't keep from using the phone that way, and there may be ways to disable that (G3TweaksBox?).
I can't answer particulars because I've never used mine on anything but Verizon.
IMHO, the title of the Ebay listing is only misleading because all VS985s are factory unlocked; i.e. the particular listing isn't special by specifically mentioning that it's unlocked, but it's not inferior because of it either.
To be clear, "it will only work on the carriers who share the same bands that are built into the LG G3." There's no possibility that a device could work with carriers that use bands other than what the device supports, and being factory unlocked doesn't mean that you don't have to follow the instructions in the threads having to do with enabling optional bands if you wanted to use it on certain carriers, since the stock LG ROMs have some of those optional bands disabled by default. *Some* bands other than what Verizon uses are already enabled.
That is interesting about being able to enable some additional radio bands. I am waiting for a VS985 which I just bought, in order to try it with Total Wireless, since the AT&T coverage in my area comes up short for data connection. Am hoping that it will also work well enough with AT&T if I have a poor result with TW.
A few years back, while living in a different area, I had pretty good results with a G2 vs980 as GSM with t-mo, although results were a little better after switching to the t-mo G2 D801, so I figured that it would serve for AT&T as well if need be, although I've read reports of it lacking LTE band for AT&T, but they don't seem to offer LTE in my area anyway, so no loss there.

CONSULTATION signal is left without my LG G5

Good Morning People, I had a problem with my LG G5 and unmindful that is
Vs987 g5 is the lg verizon version which buy free.
And suddenly has been no sign, I thought I had been blocked by the company, paid to release it by IMEI and I came out I was released from the factory.
Now I turn to despair because they do not like lifting.
Entering the configuration I get that radio is disconnected, if it can not be, nor how to activate it again.
Nor is like changing mobile bands, if not by changing the official ROM, can not be, I have a lot of impotence in this situation.
If there please some form of lift would appreciate it.
Thank you very much for your time

RS988 on Verizon?

So after using an LG G5 VS987 for a few weeks I decided I wanted the RS988 for the unlocked bootloader so I can have full control of my phone. Upon receiving my phone today I took my SIM out of the VS987 and put it in the RS988. The phone started working on 4G within a few minutes and I was browsing the internet and downloading apps no problem. I tried a test call and it worked fine (albeit on LTE). I even video called a verizon S5 and video chatted without issue. The problem I am having is that the phone will NOT send or receive text messages. Could this be a problem with it not working right on 3G (CDMA) since I notice when I send texts sometimes my old phone would go to 3g for a second and this one just fails. The APN settings were blank on the RS988 so I changed them to VZWINTERNET like on the VS987 and the 4G stopped working alltogether I verified the phone is indeed an RS988 in the about phone>hardware menu so I am not sure why it isn't working. I did notice that this phone after factory resetting had a "Cellcom" background. Could that have anything to do with it? I need to return this phone anyway since the GPS will not get a lock even on raw GPS but can anyone verify their RS988 worked on Verizon for 3G? Thanks a bunch!

I also have the RS988 (from BHPhoto) and use it with Verizon for a few months, now on AT&T GoPhone, and didn't have any problem. Put my Samsung Note 4 SIM into the G5 RS988, verified the APN, and worked fine. You are on Software 10d, the newest is 11d, so should update to it and reset the phone.
If it still having problems, check with Verizon it the phone (IMEI) is setup correct on their end. They may want to send out a new SIM if still having a problem.
GPS locks on mine a lot quicker than on my old Note 4.
So it sounds like you may have a bad unit. Where did you buy it from?

Thanks for the reply. I bought it from an eBay vendor. When I check for system updates it says my device is up to date. I wonder if it is looking for a "Cellcom" approved update? I cannot figure out how to flash the new firmware myself. Everyone seems to use the LGUP tool but every link I found is from a third party site and not LG themselves

It looks like you may have been sold a phone that was used by CellComm at some point, so even though it is the RS988, it isn't the same "unlocked" RS988 that was sold by BHPhoto. I'd suggest returning it for a refund if you are able, and say that the item is defective and doesn't work as described.

Thanks again for the reply FAUguy. I have already requested the return and got the label so I am just going to reset it and send it back. The GPS issue was kind of a blessing in disguise because the camera lens on this Cellcom RS988 was kinda scratched too. Hopefully the cellcomm thing is also was why I couldn't send texts I will update this thread once I get my next RS988. Thanks!

At this point, I wouldn't see myself buying the G5 unless it was for half of what it cost me back in Nov ($450). Would either go with the G6/V20 or S8. The G5 is OK, but hardware wise it feels a bit dated, and still no Android 7 update for it. But the main thing I don't like is the display, colors are dull and lacking. Still prefer AMOLED at this point.

The removable battery is a requirement I have so it was either the G5 or the V20. The V20 was too big for me so I went G5. I am coming from a Galaxy S5 which has served me well. I am sad that they are getting away from removable batteries I felt the same way when they did away with keyboards (I loved my Droid 4). The VS987 I got for $190 shipped, the RS988 I got for $206 shipped, and the RS988 I just ordered was $220 but it looks to be in MUCH better shape than this GPS-dud was.

I can understand about the removable battery, and I actually have two LG OEM batteries and two Extended batteries I got from Amazon. But I've only had to swap it out during the course of a day only on one occasion.
The G5 on BHPhoto had gone down in price, very attractive offer. When I got it for $450 it included the Cam Plus attachment and the VR, both I only used once are pretty much useless. Coming from the Note 2/3/4, the G5 display was the biggest let-down for me. Also, I think my G4 took better pictures (in Auto) but o do love the Manual model and wide angle on the G5.
I personally am waiting on the Note 8 before I make any decisions on what to go with this year. I wasn't a fan of the the larger curves on the S7 Edge and Note 7, but they have lessened the curve angle this year. Also, an LED indicator on the front is a must, and the G6 doesn't have one.

Just to update, got the new RS988 and it is working great. I still cannot verify that 3G CDMA is working properly since whenever I enter the Phone information menu to change it to CDMA only like on my old S5 it says "This application does not work on this device" and closes :| I am able to send and receive texts now with the stock LG texting app. I will keep researching the apparent lockout of forcing 3G since it has saved my butt a few times out in the boonies where 4g wouldn't stay steady and it was failing to fall to 3g :/

Good that you got a working unit now If yours is a true RS988 (not a cellcom one), you can unlock it and root of as well now and hopefully soon will be able to use custom ROMs . Also, if you root your phone you can use an app to disable 4G too.

Thanks for the reply. So if root is installed you can access the "hidden" menu just fine? Have you done this? I really see no reason to root now considering the wifi hotspot works without an entitlement check but if I could switch to 3G only it would be worth it... I'd just hate to block myself from using Android Pay for a "maybe" you know Thanks again.

Well, doubt root would allow you to use the hidden menu (if it's locked out by lg, root wouldn't change that) to do it but it would allow you to use an app (like network monitor or a network switcher app) to control it. Also, as far as Android pay, it works with root as long as you are using magisk for root and not SuperSU. Only issue the rs988 may have for now is not being able to install a kernel that hides that the bootloader is unlocked (which Android pay detects), although that should hopefully happen given some time. Another possibility is going to an Los based ROM when one is released, which again will hopefully be soon. Maybe best bet is to just wait and see where development goes in next few weeks before rooting or anything the rs988 just recently got unlocked.
I am looking at the same issue. I have ordered an RS988 from a vendor on ebay to use on my existing Verizon account. I'm starting to get nervous. Will I have any issues? Is it better to contact Verizon prior to opening the phone. I currently have an iPhone 6, will the sim work or do I need a new one?
This is my first experience with an unlocked phone. I would like to be able to move it if I want to. But right now, where I live, Verizon is the only good choice.
Hello Striker1211 - A quick question for you (or anyone else on this forum) re: the LG G5 RS988 >> I am also looking to get this unlocked phone to use on Verizon soon.
I had planned to get it from B & H, because I'm being extra cautious considering all the problems you hear about the G5, and I figured A) They have a 30-day return/exchange policy, and B) I live in New York City, so I could return or exchange in person if the phone exhibits any problems.
B & H's price is $330 at the moment, and while I would like to save $100 and order from eBay as you have, I would worry about not having the 1-year warranty from LG , which I imagine is very useful should any problems arise after 30 days.
Am I being too careful in not ordering from eBay? It seems without the first month grace period to exchange, postage hassles, and either short or no LG warranty at all, physically walking into a store for purchasing peace-of-mind might be worth it? What do you all think?
P.S. Best Buy has the LG RS988 for $350, but with a 14-day return policy, plus re-stocking fee.

Personally, I'd recommend going through b&h. The 30 day return policy is nice and they also have cheap full coverage protection if you want and you also ensure you'll get the full 1 year warranty from LG as well. I've purchased from them before G2 and RS988 and had no issues with them including returning the RS988 to get the h830. If stay away from eBay if you're worried about warranty or return periods. Also not a fan of best buy hitting you with a restocking fee.
Thanks jeffsga88 for the advice - I figured B&H was probably the better deal, but it's nice to have another person confirm it!

Do NOT buy in the US - does NOT work with modern T-Mobile or AT&T networks

Do NOT buy this phone in the US unless Sony gets its phones approved to work with T-Mobile & AT&T
I have a Sony Xperia X Compact and it is the BEST ANDROID PHONE I have ever had.
Despite that I have to say that NOBODY SHOULD BUY ANY SONY PHONES.
The phone is awesome and technically supports pretty much any 3G and 4G band out there but Sony refuses to get these phones approved by AT&T and T-Mobile for VoLTE.
That means (for T-Mobile as an example) that the Xperia X Compact technically supports T-Mobile's super-duper Band 12 LTE which has almost better coverage than Verizon, BUT because the phone is not approved for VoLTE, Sony phones will almost immediately get disconnected from that T-Mobile tower. You may be standing next to someone with an approved phone that has 100% coverage, yet the Sony Xperia phones will show NO RECEPTION.
Sony phones should be able to at least connect to Band 12 for data but they don't. It may technically have the ability to connect to Band 12 and even use VoLTE, but the tower refusal to keep the connection. Sony then apparently also screwed up the band prioritization, because Sony phones even have issues connecting to non VoLTE networks (eg Band 4).
As a result, ALL SONY PHONES ARE PRETTY MUCH UNUSABLE on T-Mobile and AT&T AS A PHONE.
Do NOT buy any Sony phones if you want to use them on T-Mobile and AT&T, though I can tell you that they are the BEST phones otherwise - just not as a phone.
This is pathetic and there is no response from Sony.

Unproven rumors that it will be voLTE certified. NO CONFIRMATION FROM SONY OR T-MOBILE.
Even so, you won't be able to use the fingerprint sensor, since the international ROM won't support it.
Do NOT buy!!!!

You have a really hard-on for Sony for some reason....
Everything points that it will have both of the supports for TMobile. Why not just wait and see before making such a claims?

Because Sony ****ED over buyers for the last three phone generations.
Why not stop buying Sony phones until they fix that!?
Because Sony can just as easily choose not to sell phones in the US as they can choose to spend extra to sell unlocked phones. Alot of people buy and they may see the window to release carrier phones again.
Also, because no one else produces a sub-5" android superphone and the XZ1 Compact is the only way to signal that there is a market for them.
I had the Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact. I've been on Samsungs for the last 2.5 years because they've had the smallest US flagships.

I also would buy another phone if there was another sub 4.8 screen and 13MP+ phone with USB C, SD card and 3+GB RAM.
The Xperia X Compact is the best Android device that I have ever owned.
But without VoLTE it is unusable as a phone or even internet connected device on T-Mobile.
I essentially sit on a t mobile tower at work and I don't get reception.
That is just fvkced up.
Selling these phones as Sony is currently doing is the same as not selling them ...
My x compact worked fine on Tmobile.. I would definitely recommend the xz1 and compact!!

That is interesting since everyone is reporting it not working with LTE. Just check the XDA forum.
There is currently no reason to believe this one too be different.
Man, what's wrong with you? Seriously?
You give this thread an ABSOLUTE imperative title, with capital conjunctions and all - which is BS in the first sentence, and misleading in the second, to say the very least.
Then, my hats off, only in the post you manage to make fit the relevant information that everybody can get to evaluate for itself.
Which, not only is very minor and objectively variable for whatever specific conditions one's have, but now has also that little petty incidental detail of being confirmed by multiple sources.. And it still doesn't make a difference?
Oh, and last but not least, you bring up the goddamn fingerprint problem, as if you couldn't just flash european firmware and call it a straight day.

I'm sorry to say this, but you're clueless. Any phone you buy that's not sold directly by AT&T will not support VoLTE, regardless of manufacturer. Saying it's a Sony thing and putting the blame on them is a dumbass move. I have bought countless unlocked phones from Samsung, LG, OnePlus and Sony of course and none of them support VoLTE or WifiCalling, that's AT&T (and T-Mobile) to blame, not the manufacturer. If you called T-Mobile and AT&T and that's what a clueless rip told you, lol for believing they know anything but how an iPhone works.

Thread closed as it serves no real purpose.
