[Q] Sim phones on sprint ? (please read in full) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello my sis recently purchased an sprint iPhone 5s about a week ago from eBay it arrived with no Sim and I didn't think that was a problem as sprint is CDMA well trying to activate it was a different story talked to sprint after self activating wouldn't work and found out it did require a Sim so got transferred to sprint international and got to order a free Sim from them it arrived and activation didn't work talked to support and guy said I was sent an android varrarent of the Sim after he checked the numbers and I would have to reorder an iPhone compatible one they gave me free overnight ship and it came and activated fine my question is tho
Would it be possible to activate cheap Chinese phones like the goophone or there new s5Clones/generic android sim phones on sprint. I ask this question because the only Google results I could find were from like 2008 and older So not to relevant today and BTW I still don't like iPhone over priced fads that do half as much as a android

i would of thought this thread/topic would of had a lot more traffic who wouldn't want a cheap replacement Chinese phone as a backup in-case of accidents or theft and loss on the sprint network.
i basically just wanted to know if possible because last time i knew of sprint was cdma only still but i don't understand why they would have android sim card

You will have to check pretty carefully to make sure that the Chinese phone has the correct frequencies for use on what ever Carrier you go with. There is an article here discussing the pros and cons of getting a Chinese branded phone.
One thing to note is that the Moto G pretty much takes every Chinese phone to school and for not really that much more $$$.

yea there are only a few company's i found the supports hspa+ net10 / with an at&t sim i figure at&t too but i believe every usa gsm network if i recall correctly supports voice and text bandwidths
my dad purchased a n9776 about a year ago and his data speeds on net10 with an at&t sim was around 15-18mpbs down before they rolled out the new plans for net10. now hes thinking of switching carriers the apns keep switching and loosing connection every other day causing his mms and data to stop working until we reenter the settings. but i'd like to know if sprint would be a viable option in the future (much better customer support). recently his charging port on his phone broke so he looking for a new phone. ill show him that moto g

[Q] Differences in AT&T model and unlocked/unbranded?

Hi all,
I've decided to bite the bullet and switch carriers just so I can upgrade from my HD7 to the Titan. Keep in mind I will be unlocking the phone for use on Telus in Canada which is compatible with AT&T 3G.
However I am trying to figure out if there is any benefit to getting the AT&T variant over the unlocked, unbranded model.
I see that on the box for the AT&T model it shows 4G compatible which is cool. So I would assume that using it on Telus would also give me 4G speeds. On the specs for the unlocked model it only shows 3G so I'm wondering if that's not entirely true. I also read somewhere HTC may have included Beats technology in the AT&T version but I doubt it since I haven't heard anything else about that.
I think I'd prefer an unbranded model over the AT&T one but also wondering if anything comes bundled as well that might make one better over the other. Also are the hardware specs identical?
Any help on this would be great
should be no difference or
the only difference is it would be sim locked for their network only the unlocked will work on either telus or at&t without trouble, you could work on sim unlocking the at&t version and that might be a little troublesome, I could be wrong but telus and at&t are promoting FAUX G which is still using 3g with increased speed boost if I am getting this right, hspa+
so the hardware is the same with some minor cosmetic differences (carrier branding vs none) the os and ui with msft strict requirements will be pretty much the same and you could easily uninstall carrier bundled apps, since you do live in canada I would just get the unlocked euro one, you will and I do notice that it switches from H to 3G and then E for Edge every now and then, but if you know how to do it get the at&t version and sim unlock it
Well the unlocked unbranded version uses 3G on 850/900/2100 MHz. AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz. It appears to me that I'm getting HSPA on my Titan, but not HSPA+, but I haven't really tested it very much. You'll have to check what Telus uses for HSPA+ to check if that will work.
Holding down the Windows/Start button brings up the Microsoft Tellme voice activated stuff. It works fine, but the lady has a British accent. This isn't a big deal.
The charger that ships with the unlocked version is the British Standards 1363 plug. Mine also had a BS 1363 to NEMA 5 adapter (aka UK to US), but it was separate from the box, so I think the company I purchased from, eXpansys, threw that in for free. Of course it includes a micro USB charging cable, so any computer USB port or USB wall charger would work, even if you can't use the included charger.
and you know what too with that womans british accent i think the phone is programmed to understand english with an accent, my voice to text experience has been less than stellar lately and my british accent is terrible LOL
Thanks everyone for the info!!
However I'm curious as to which model will give me HSPA+... If anyone can confirm that I'd appreciate it
it dont matter IMO, it's so fast already i love it

Get the ATT version. The unlocked Euro version will not connect to the same 3G bands. As for 4G don't get your hopes up there is no real 4G yet. Until a standard is set any one can say it has 4g if it. 000001 MB over the Max 3g connection.
Well I took my chances and just bought the ATT version off a seller on eBay. We made the deal for $630US incl. shipping. I don't know what the phone sell for off contract but it's the cheapest one I could find that wasn't already open or used. He also sent in a request for an unlock code for it so I'm hoping we'll be able to get one.
I remember the horror when I couldn't get an unlock code for my HD7 and had to wait a week before the codes were available.
Anyway.. it's being sent by UPS so should have it by Weds next week Now I hope it's not a lemon or I'm screwed!!

Go to the Ace hack kit thread for the inspire and read it. Unlocking it is simple as long as you read the manual and have a little common sense.

This is for an Android device and it's not clear to me what the purpose of this hack is for and how it's related to the HTC Titan.

My dead-end problem.
mine come from UK, and yes, the lady inside the phone almost never recognize my English Voice Pattern, even the simplest: IMDB.
It is funny when i am foreign, i was studying British English at home and now only Americans can understand me. LMAO.
I mean, my HD7 T-Mobile almost never have trouble in using the voice to open stuffs, but my UK Titan is a pain in the ass.
By the way, i would recommend double check everything because my turn-by-turn Navigation of Bing maps doesn't work at US for UK version. If you are really need Turn-by-Turn, i would recommend the AT&T version because it is designed for US Road, maybe Canada too. But we also have other alter maps like Nokia Maps is coming out, or navigon... blah.
If not, the Sim-Free Quad-band Unlocked Titan from Europe is also sweet. I can hit home anytime and use any sim without paying $30-$45 for an unlock code and worry about 3G Frequency since it is the world phone.

That is true. I have this problem and no solutions exists yet. "Display language" in the Settings has "English" with no US/UK selection. It is UK effectively. Bing Maps will therefore have no voice guidance, and speech accessibility (announcing caller name, etc.) don't work, and you need to have a British accent for it to understand you.
I guess we'll have to wait for an AT&T ROM to flash on our devices.
this is true! i just realized my bing maps doesn't work either, it shows my location and will tell me where something is in relation to it but it cannot give me directions, thank god for the turn by turn navigation app which i use frequently, bing maps cannot provide me directions, and it would be great if my voice to text would work as well, yes we will have to wait for some cooked roms to come our way,
---------- Post added at 05:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:54 PM ----------
my thing is and I don't know if any other us euro titan owners are experiencing this, but i have a great rate and unlimited data plan with at&t because my device is not recognized in their system, if I were to install and at&t rom in the future , would ma bell immediately see my titan and slap a capped data plan on my account?

Starting today, they will probably recognize your phone... lol
Doesn't matter which ROM it runs, they can see it as "HTC Titan" and apply any restrictions they wish.
From the ATT site on the Titan specs: *4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul.
Also, ATT sells the Titan new for $549.99 without contract and free shipping.

I was in a mall today with 2 outlets for the AT&T Titan: the Microsoft Store and an AT&T store.
I entered the IMEI for both shops' floor models into htcimeiunlock.com, and for both of them the site claimed to have the codes immediately available, for $25. I've had good luck with that site in the past so I believe that at least for the first batch of Titans the codes are readily available for $25 or so.
Contrast that with AT&T, who probably won't have or give the codes for months, if ever.

what codes are you referring to? the $25 app cards? everyone is going to get them, i don't see why at&t would take time on this, this is sanctioned by msft, all you have to do is go on the msft's own side enter your imei proof of purchase and voila you get a $25 app card mailed to you i believe
and also at&t is a great network! they 10x better coverage than tmobile, i've had horrible experiences with tmobile letting me down, you can have the bestest shiniest most advanced phone out there and but its a useless paperweight if your carrier lets you down
"Codes" == SIM unlock codes (thought that was obvious from my mention of "htcimeiunlock.com").
Good luck getting them from AT&T any time in the next few months, even for a phone purchased at unsubsidized price.
Not a big deal for some folks, but some of us like to travel abroad with our phones and use them with local SIM cards, which makes unlocking critical. Fortunately, there's a non-AT&T source for the codes for HTC devices... you're SOL if you want to travel with a Samsung Mango phone!

[Q] sprint via at&t

Ok so we all know why we got our gear s from at&t (100$) cheaper than sprint.so now after i unlock the phone is there a way to connect it so srint.if yes than how if no than state details why not and whats the best choice for unlocked at&t gear s device ....
Sprint version is CDMA. I think that is why it also cost more. ATT version is gsm version with a sim card. I dont think they will work.
In order to use any phone on a CDMA carrier, it must meet two conditions:
1. It must support CDMA. The AT&T and T-Mobile versions are GSM only, no CDMA support.
2. It must has ESN (each CDMA device has one) already in the carrier's database. There is no known (official) way to put foreign device ESN into the database other than carrier itself. That means you are pretty much limited to devices sold by Sprint only. Even though Verizon is CDMA as well, you can't use any Verizon devices.
Yeah. That's a tall order. Atleast to use all functionality of services. Pairing is fine and using the features of the marriage between your device and GS. But standalone, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.
Although. Maybe using Boost or Virgin Mobile may work? I believe they use sim cards. I could totally be wrong though. But i thought they did.
Sent from my SM-N910P
Boost and Virgin Mobile all run off of sprint network. The best thing would be to return the watch to att and just pick up a sprint version. Price wise it only 80 bucks more but then you know you can use it on your network.

Ok as i come from sprint im really a noob about sim cards and the prepaid ones.can somebody please give me in details with sim cards will work unlocked fear s at&t .i want to put sim card with phone and text dont care about data ill use wifi mostly but dont want monthly subscibtion to any service.simple sim card that gonna let me talk and text till i finish my minutes...
the thing is that the price for a prepaid sim card is not worth the cost of the service. Most will be 30 a month. I think you may be better just trying to get service from att.

H20/cricket/Net10/Red Pocket/Straight Talk/ ect locked AT&T :good:
T-mobile (you unlock sim it will work with these bootleg company's for t-mo)
Metropcs/Simple mobile/GoSmart/walmart plan/Red Pocket/Straight talk /net 10
theres more but these are ones people know
That wasn't confusing at all ...
Haha.
Sprint and Verizon sim cards are for LTE. This watch definitely does not support LTE.
There are definitely two versions that were tested by the FCC, those were the GSM and the CDMA models. I thought at first that it might have a universal radio (CDMA/GSM hybrid) because the Snapdragon 400 in the device supports that. But the FCC didn't license it that way, so #sadface ...
The ONLY benefit to buying on on your same carrier is to get a discount on the device (if you can call Verizon's $349 a discount), and to have a discounted plan ($5-10/mo) to use its independent phone and data ... but you'd be under contract for two years ... that's a long time and quite the commitment.
Most of us just paid AT&T 299 outright and walked out with the device. Some have had to contact AT&T to request unlock, I, for some reason have NOT ... my T-Mobile sim also works in it and did out of the box ... I believe I had a VERY knowledgeable customer service rep where I bought it, and she knew what was up!!!!!! (AT&T in Henderson Nevada by the Sunset Station Mall, I will never go anywhere else! they can have all the monies :good

Question about using without activating/use monthly plan.

I thinking about getting one of these but I rather not have to pay extra 10.00$ a month as I would usually have my phone around me. I found some unlocked ones on ebay. Now my question is if bought one and wanted to leave my phone at home could I just swap the sim cards? I have a sim card adapter to make it all work. Or ifnot could I use a pre paid sim?
Thank you

If you buy unlock gs from ebay.....just make dammm sure it will work on your gsm network. If it will, yes you can swap the sim from the phone to the gs....but the risk of breaking something is much greater...if you know what I mean. You can always go pre-paid.
Example: Pri att/unlock to use on tmobile.......it might work....people are saying they are having trouble with unlock gs and vice versa with Pri tmobile/unlock to att. But I think it is a hit and miss, cause I have a unlock att and I can go tmobile network any time with no issues.....as of now I am on pre paid h2o (att network) for when I want to go remote and leave the phone at the house while jogging.
Thank you for the reply and sorry for my late one. So ive found a few on ebay that say unlocked. So what I would need to do is get a sim from h2O as prepaid use that when I set up the watch from my AT&T s4?
With h2o you dont really need a unlock gs if you get an att gs......since it runs off the att network. You should not have an issue since your s4 is also running on the att network.

Yep. I posted on a similar thread- $10 gets you 90 days, 100 megs with H2O's cheapest pay-as-you-go. I take the watch to the gym on remote connection every few days since january-- I've used about $1.70 of the $10 credit from getting notifications and few calls routed to the watch.
Since you'll be buying the watch off contract- go ahead and submit that request for the unlock from AT&T anyway, even though h2o works on locked att devices. It'll make it worth a little more for resale down the road, plus it's free and easy to do so- you just need a non-att/h2o sim card.
btw, if there's no huge hurry for cell coverage on the watch, you can get H2o and simple mobile SIMs on amazon for one penny & free shipping. Get a simple mobile one so you can unlock the watch with it.
make sure you get a nano-sim

I keep forgetting the unlock code can be asked when bought out right after the new ruling went into affect. I don't have att nor tmobile as my phone carrier and bought the att gs since it was the cheapest of them all and needed coverage as a second carrier when out of phone range (I have sprint on the note2).....also since it has a sim....it could be unlock...etc. I was telling cyper the other day.....I too was afraid of the data usage, but after 2 to 3 months the gs eats data like a bird.......I bought the $100/1yr and I am sitting at 97.00 (since Dec) cause I was not sure how the gs with going to eat data..etc. I am going to have to down grade when it is time to reboost next yr..lol. I might go with the $10/90 days next time around.

I am looking to do the EXACT same thing you did. I have sprint, sprint version is about 399 in the store but I can get the international unlocked for 253.00 I can send you the link if anybody needs it off amazon. The challenge of course is sprints restrictive network so I have 2 questions, 1st when your phone is paired can you receive calls when tethered and talk through the watch and 2nd when you popped the sim card into the watch did you have issues using it as a stand alone device?

Yes, when tethered you can receive calls and talk through watch. Only at&t & T-Mobile Gear S watches have sim card slot (GSM). So if your looking to use the watch as standalone on Sprint network (not sure if your talking wifi or 3G network) , assuming your talking 3G network via Sprint there would be no SIM card required. Are you talking standalone via wifi/no 3G plan or standalone as connected to the Sprint 3G network with the $9.99 plan?
**The previous persons comments are very misleading and I think confuses anyone who reads it. In order to even use the device via Sprint 3G they will need your IMEI number NO SIM CARD.**
I paid the cost for Sprints Gear S which didn't bother me, although I'm using it connected to the $9.99 plan as well as tethered to my phone. Its also much easier to get a warranty replacement device. This thread seems so off topic I'm confused if previous poster is talking with 3G plan or not considering the OT was no plan.
well my plan is to bypass sprint all together and use a prepaid AT&T h20 nano sim card on the watch. This way I use sprint when tethered and AT&T when using as a stand alone watch phone if that makes any sense. Again this is a gamble as I ordered the international South Korean unlocked version, Ive seen one or 2 posts on this being a possibility but I will update if it does work, if so this option may save many people money and frustration of being tied to one network.

On a side note the seller had their prices listed as low as $235.00 New and the day after I purchased it they bumped their prices back up to $319.00!! (I was at the right place at the right time i guess)

well my plan is to bypass sprint all together and use a prepaid AT&T h20 nano sim card on the watch.

That makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying that. Actually would like to know how that turns out for you. I just have a personal grudge against at&t/Verizon and left at&t for Sprint not long ago, so that just wasn't an option for me. How much is the line going to cost through at&t? I was thinking it was a little bit more per month unless you already have a phone line..

Verizon to T-Mobile Conversion

In May I purchased new S6 edge for my wife outright to keep Verizon Unlimited data. In August we switched to T-mobile due to the need to have Wi-Fi Calling to get any.... yes any.... service at my new house. The phones functionality is at best limping along at this time we have done several factory resets. All APN settings have been verified by T-Mobile. The phone is just handicapped now and worst of all No Wi-Fi calling due to non T-mobile rom. My son has a Nexus 5 and I have a Nexus 6 so I just threw stock t-mobile roms on them and all is well everything works as perfect as one would expect. These piece of **** branded garbage Samsung phones my wife loves leave me confused about what is possible.
Question 1: Can I flash a T-mobile Stock rom to a Verizon S6 edge or will it brick this thing?
Question 2: Does anyone know what benefit having 6 different model numbers for each of the carriers provided Samsung? There couldn't have been a cost savings! Making one phone that works on all carriers seems like the most cost effective option, hence the benefit of my 2 nexus devices.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

You will hard brick if you attempt to flash a tmobile rom. The only smartphone I am aware of that works on all carriers is the iPhone. My suggestion for you is sell your phone on swappa and buy one in similar condition for a similar price that is compatible with T-Mobile. For that I also suggest swappa

Cricket says my M9 doesn't support VoLTE... what the?

This week I'm getting blackballed into finally upgrading from my old fleet of M9's.
Anyway, my wife smoked her M9 (GPU/display driver failure, she was running Linage 17). I had a spare M9 (I have three total, hers, mine, and the spare, all Att model M9's), moved over the SIM, get a message from Cricket that I need to re-register the SIM. Ok, go to the store yesterday, they tell me it can't be activated (and my phone is soon to die) because "it's a 3G phone". I assume they meant no VoLTE... which as far as I know both of ours has supported.
Perhaps it's a stock ROM issue that has the M9 blacklisted... anybody else get this line from Cricket or ATT? Or do I need to talk to somebody not local who knows what they're looking at. While I'd love to upgrade to 5G (and given how rough it's been, likely on a different carrier), the only phones in budget I can't get good cases for, and my line of work is rough on phones...

I have an AT&T branded M9 with Android 7 firmware update 4.27.502.7 on it and everything works fine on H2O wireless which is on AT&T. I did have to get them to provision the line for VoLTE first

No, I moved to T-Mobile (and a pair of OnePlus Nord N10's) and called it a day. Good riddance to Cricket/Att!
