Hi,
I just bought a second hand HD2 which looked like it was in great condition. Unfortunately its Sim locked but the vendor told me its easy to get it unlocked online. The codes I bought didnt unlock it and I have already tried four times and the unlock people assure me that i am probably putting in the wrong code as theres is 100% guaranteed to work. Will it permanently lock after the fifth as I have read in some places as its not clear, and would it be possible to unlock at a shop via some other method?
The rest of the phone works fine but while seeing if I could upgrade my phone I realised I cannot acces bootloader (holding down volume while pressing power). I have tried time and time again but it just turns on normally immiediatly showing the htc logo etc even though i hold down the volume as hard as i can the whole time.
I dont think anyone has ever had this behaviour on a phone and the volume button works fine (as its booting up it puts the volume down)
When turning on I get the following in red in the bottom left corner if thats any help.
2.05. 51.05_2
15.28.50.07U
1.48.479.1(71294)
Thanks anyone
Never had any experience with locked HD2.. Maybe this could help in case you're doing it wrong http://hyfeno.com/how-to-unlock-htc-hd2/
Also, it would be great if you specify what carrier is your phone locked to.. People from this forum could help
Thanks, managed to unlock my sim using mobilex but still a problem with entering bootloader mode, at least I found a cab to enter bootloader but no way of doing so holding down volume rocker while powering up! It just boots normally, and although I have read other people also cant access bootloader this way have not found out why or what you can do to fix the problem.

I don't mean to disparage you in any way, but are you sure you are starting with the phone completely off? Hold down the on/off button until a screen appears with 4 choices on it. The top one is power off... tap it.
Hi thanks for your reply, I was always starting with the phone of, but have found a way to go into bootloader (finally). Maybe it will work for others with this problem but bascially turn off the phone, pull the battery out, maybe wait for a few seconds and hold volume down and put the battery in, and then literarally just tap the power button, and finally i have managed to get into bootloader, so will be trying android or maybe wp7 without the great fear i had of bricking my device because i could not get into bootloader. Thanks everyone for your help

Hi, I need to downgrade from WM2005 to be able to use my Tomtom Navigator on holiday in Spain but it just won't let me!
I've entered the bootloader screen and then run the wm2003upgrade app but after about 30 seconds the device switches off. I've tried everything i can think of but am hoping that you experts out there may be able to help.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
thanks, coj
Press "Power Button" + "Reset Button" to go to bootloader screen then try to reflash it again...
still no joy!
thanks but i have tried that (about 5 times)!
you can try this
do a hard reset win2005 version then go to the start screen and format your storage on the menu
befoure the xda completly boots press to bootloader mode and reflash.
also remove any suspend power befoure hard reseting the device maybe some setting gets stored somehow
this as worked for me the first time i downgraded
and even after i reflash some settings like owner name was allready there so i did format the storage then downgraded.
nope!
thanks for the tip, but again it just turns off. no suspend settings are set.
try restart your computer.
Is your battery fully charged !
Try flashing back to the original 1.66 wm2003 rom, thats what i had to do, then up to 2003se then back to wm2005.....
Just my 2 cents
Are you using the power supply also?
:?
thanks but still nowt
thanks for your help, but it still just switches off (leading to a country id error)...i'm going insane!!
Have you done the WM2005 hard reset? This is power + record + camera + reset hole for 5 seconds.
Once that's done and you use the record & camera buttons to select yes on format all the options, reset it again and put into bootloader by power + center d-pad + reset.
Make sure there is power to the device though while you do this, obviously any settings for power off make no difference in the bootloader.
Then you should be able to flash anything you like.
I have been between WM2003se and WM2005 3 times so far, and before that between 3 other ROM images frequently.
nope! now stuck in bootloader!
still no joy. tried that but now i'm stuck in the bootloader. it still switches off, but now i can't hard reset, it just stays in the bootloader saying 'serial' when i disconnect it from the docking station. i've even tried leaving the battery out for half an hour but nothing. think its well and truly dead...sniff
ahhhh, I have seen that once before, is this plugged directly into a USB port on the PC or is it going through a hub?
Best results are always directly into the PC's USB controller.
i'm losing the will to live...
its plugged into the pc directly, it has AC power connected, i've tried it on a newly formatted laptop in addition to the PC.
thanks for your suggestions, guys, i do appreciate it. i'm also starting to see the funny side of it...that little machine just doesn't want to play ball...
One last suggestion then, try with a different USB cable/cradle possibly? Could have a faulty plug that's got a slightly dodgy connection or something.

I don't think so cojones... If you're still able to get in the BootLoader, chances are you can re-flash it again...
Just be patient and keep trying.
You mentioned Country ID Error... Maybe you will have to edit the ROM in order to reflash...
Good luck,

the rain in spain...
well i'm in spain now and have just done a 600km round trip using a paper map...whats that all about? would've been 500km with Tomtom
i've left my xda II at home to discharge, hope i can get it going when i return! thanks for all of your suggestions.
alas no
after 5 days draining the backup battery the situation remains the same...my xda is dead. looks like there is no hope.
hello cojones
are you sure you are using the right version off the software? because you get a country id error! Also when i upgrade or downgrade a rom, the screen show nothing when erasing the rom, so it appears to be off, but in fact after 1 or 2 minutes it shows being updated.
My mainpoint first: are you using the countryid unlocked version for updating your device?
Try to use this one instead...
This does not validate country.
Good Luck!
thanks for these tips, on running the upgrade above it immediately shows error 103: ROM image not found and suggests that i download the correct rom update to my pocket pc and try again. I don't fully understand what this is asking me to do!
Sorry guys..I think this is my first post here..I tried to make I resarch on my prob but I haven't find nothing similar (correct me if I am wrong..)
By the way I was using Dutty crem de la crem for a month with no prob after that the following issue came up:
Once my phone is on if I keep it pressed the power off button the page with power, lock screen or terminate data options show up but at this point the touch screen is freeze doesn't work...only thing I can do is repressed the power button, switch off the screen and re and press for example the "answering" button and I can unlock the phone (in this case the touch screen is operable)
Same thing if is the phone is in locked and I press the power off button I can not operate the touch screen (and unlock the phone) and again...only thing I can do is repressed the power button, switch off the screen and re and press for example the "answering" button and I can unlock the phone (in this case the touch screen is operable).
I tried the following:
-change the rom to last energy and dutty v11,change couple of time the radio version, format the memory card, operate the phone without sim card and memory card but no change.
Last I installed the original rom from HTC...and still the problem persist...I start to think is something related to the hardware..could be???
Any idea?
Other question why after I installed the original rom I can still see the hspl 2.08 if I switch on the phone keeping the volume down?
Thx guy!

it has to be hardware if the problem occurs with different roms / radios. (a different though similar problem happened with me- eventually it all stopped working.) i would try to return it...
no matter what rom you have you can enter bootloader (like you said with volume down) and see what spl (or hspl) you have. if you flashed the original rom from your pc hspl will still be there; if you flashed from your sd card it is likely back to spl.
cheers.
yep it's a hardware problem. i know because this just happened to me last week, except that the start menu would pop up instead... i did multiple hard resets but nothing. t-mobile said it's a common issue with our phones though your the only other case of this happening that i know of... other than me lol. you'll have to get a new leo
so if I have properly understood your verdict is to flash original rom from the SD and return the phone to HTC get it fixed (it is obviously still under warranty!!),,,right?
How strange.
My HD2 has just started to do the exact same thing. When WinMo boots the screen works fine but when it has been in standby and i press a key to waken it up, the screen does not respond.
I have done a hard reset also and it is still not playing up.
Looks like i'll need to call the insurance company.

yes.
flashing from the sd should get rid of the hspl so all should be back to normal (i would double check though with a quick launch into bootloader...)
good luck!
damn I have the same issue right now. i thought it might have been a bad rom that i flash. i have to reset my phone every time i want to you use it. I cracked my screen so I don't know if that would void any mfg warranty on it.
Sent my handset to HTC on 8th Sept. Got it back on 28th Sept with new screen and new outer case which had a few chps and scratches.
All working fine again. Long time to wait tho. A day off 3 weeks
I am having this exact same problem. I had a feeling it was the hardware after it started doing it in Windows as well as Android. If we didn't purchase the insurance from T-mobile do we send the phone back to HTC via our T-Mobile store. I have had the phone for about 6 months now. Is it a costly fix?
Hey guys,
I am currently having an issue where my S1 gets stuck on the boot up screen. It seems to freeze on the "Sony" text before it gets to the boot animation and just stays there until I long press the power button to turn off. I tried the reset function first to no avail. Then I let the battery completely drain and recharge before I turned it back on and it still gets stuck in the same place. I have not rooted or done anything to it but download a few apps and a launcher. Two things I would like to avoid is doing a factory reset but more importantly avoid dealing with Sony and their warranty. Any help you all could provide would be appreciated!
Unfortunately you have only this two choices ...
Factory reset or Sony (dealer) warranty ...

I was having wifi issues after rooting and did a factory reset solving my problem. If you don’t have that many apps on your tab I'm pretty sure it will fix your problem. Since you haven't rooted your devise then you should be fine calling Sony tech support if the factory reset doesn’t fix the boot loop.
Thanks for your responses. I spent a lot of time setting up my home pages as hubs so this sucks!
Next question, does anyone know how to perform factory reset without booting up the device? I performed one when I first received it but went through the Settings. Since I cant get past the boot screen, I obviously cant do it that way.
factory data reset
with the tablet off you need to press and hold the volume + button and then press and hold the power button. keep holding both buttons and when you see the sony logo release the power button only. once you get the android system recovery mode you release the volume button and use the volume + and - to navigate the menu and quickly press the power button to make a selection. before you do the reset try this: access the recovery mode and select restart and cancel, your tablet might boot normally.

If you are unable to enter stock recovery I would think you will probably have to contact Sony. Even if you have adb I don’t think you would be able to do anything because your devise is not rooted. Someone correct if I am wrong.
I believe you are right.
I was unable to get the tablet into recovery using the method stated above. I get to the Sony screen (as always) but when I release the volume button the tablet turns off. Now I have to deal with Sony. Crap! What are the chances they replace it under warranty when I bought it off ebay?

Call them and play dumb. Tell them that you received it as a gift and you weren’t sure where it was purchased from. It’s worth a shot.

My Solution
I just had this problem, what I did was..
when on the Sony logo I took out my SD card>unplugged power>did a hard reboot>waited about 30sec>then powered the tablet on and it booted normally.
I hope this was somewhat helpful
My Tablet have the same issues. It goes to Sony Service Center. I think is a shame for Sony, because the tablet is 8 months old. That is not quality.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Sony Firmware update
Since I had the lockup on the Sony logo, I have received firmware update 4.0.3 Rev1a I haven't had the problem again yet.
what happened with you can you help me
i have the same problem
thank you ....
Have you tried using a paper clip and reset yet? Worth a shot before staying on hold with Sony.

Alright so I gave my One S (on jelly bean) to my girlfriend a few months ago after she dropped her Nexus 4 in the toilet. Fast forward to now, and the power button is not working anymore. The plunger thing that presses into the microswitch broke off somehow. I got an app that can shut the screen off and another app that lets me use the volume buttons to wake up the phone (this one seems to have impacted battery life a little bit as its a persistent service that runs). Anyways, she asks me what to do now about screenshots and I figure a software method might work. Wrong. Nothing I can find in the play store worked, complaining of no root or invalid method or something like that. Ok, I figure i'll root it. Nope, cant do the power button + volume button combos to get into recovery mode or any of that.
So now what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This might work. Most of the 1 star ratings are from people that can take screenshots normally so don't understand the point of the app. But yea, you're out of luck with rooting if your bootloader isn't unlocked already. And if it isn't, you can't because you need the power button to select the agreement for the unlock.
Not a big fan of having to redo the hack any time the phone is restarted. Oh well. Is there a toolkit based one click root solution by any chance?
Dear All,
I have been using xda for long time as a user of the huge amount of knowledge in these pages...
Thanks to this community I got the most out of my samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SIII and LG G2.
Now I have an Xperia Z2 D6503. I've been using it for a month and I love it.
But this is my problem.
2 days ago I was using the phone normally, I checked google maps and I put the phone under charge.
An hour later, I went to check the phone, and the phone was unresponsive: black screen, impossible to turn off/restart, no sound, no apparent activity. The only sign of life is a red led when I press the power botton.
The phone is with the original stock (firmware 17.1.A.2.69), I rooted it with a guide I found here (of course) just to use an app like android firewall.
I tried to search the forum for something like this, but honestly all I could find was something similar for the Xperia Z and what was proposed there to restart the phone didn't work (power+volume up).
I also tried to restart the phone with the off button inside the slot where the sim card is. That didn't work either.
Please let me know how can I move forward. As anybody else experienced something like this?
Thanks for your support!
Try flashing official firmware with flashtool maybe? Maybe this will help, I don't know man.
and what about hard reboot, by maintaining power and volume up until the 3 vibrations?

I suggest you go back to stock using flashtool, use it for a while just stock and see if this happens again. If it does, there's something wrong with your phone, but i don't think that's the case.
Try and tell us.
diego9016 HugePotato thanks for your answer! is there any way I can save my data first before flashing?
sensei_sai how do I perform the hard reboot? if I press power and volume up the phone does 3 vibrations, then nothing. what next? how do I hard reboot?
thanks for your help!
I'm currently travelling but when back home in a week I'll definitely go back to stock. But in the meantime, I'm so anxious to save the data stored in the phone.
thanks again!

For the rest, the experience is as discribed by malek777, doing power and volume up I get 3 vibrations and that's it.
I fortgot to mention, I rooted the phone without unlocking the boatloader.

I figured out a way to use the companion app to go back to stock. When you get to the part in repair my device to connect your device, phone must be plugged in.
Hold the power button and volume up, once you hear the 3 vibrations let go of all and hold volume down. You will see a red light and then a green one. You're phone now in download even though there nothing on the screen.
Let me know if this works for you.
