Pull the sd card, battery and sim card. push the power button a couple times. plug in usb cable. hold volume up+down then put the battery in. that should get you into download mode. you then can restore it with odin
didnt work, still no power, no picture, no vibration
How are you trying to get into download mode?
that happened to me too. i was using odin then the phone shutdown and nver turned back on. u might wanna call tmobile if you have insurance on your phone and tell them to send u a new one.

You can't give up that quick. Come on man. Took me over 30 minutes one time to get in download mode. Tried different techniques. Try restarting your pc or maybe even a different odin version. Make sure odin is on before trying to get in downloade mode. Best way for me to get in d/l mode is to press both vol. up and down at the same time and then plug usb in. Other techniques are out their also.

Thanks everyone for the help, my phone is working again!!!
Definitely the wrong section. Here's a couple tips/ideas though. The easiest way to manually get to Download mode it to:
1. Pop the battery, wait a sec, pop it back it.
2. May be easier to leave the battery cover off, we'll get back to this.
3. Make sure your computer is powered on, and the USB cord is plugged into the computer.
4. Without pressing the power button, hold down, volume up and volume down at the same time (this may be easier without the battery cover. This takes a firm grip sometimes, if this fails that's what you did wrong.
5. Still without pressing the power button, plug the other end of your USB cord into the phone. It should boot up into Download mode in a matter of seconds. If not, try again, you probably weren't holding the volume buttons properly.
Also, possible reason it stopped, did you put the .tar into PHONE instead of PDA? That will cause it to error midway like what you described. Otherwise I would definitely re-download/install your USB drivers with the one from this site, I find they work better. Also re-download the .tar .pit and even Odin for good measure. Check out the Vibrant Bible, that thread is your friend. Good luck, hope that helps!
EDIT: Guess I was too slow haha. Gratz man.
Best way is to use usb jig.

not sure if this is true but i read somewhere on xda that samsung will replace your phone up to three times if you really do brick your phone it will not turn on or load download mode or recovery.
In my experience..Vibrant is very close to unbrickable unless you smash hit...
I odined back to jfd even after flashing a captivate rom...

Hi tehre, i'm having problems to get the phone into the download mode, i'm hoding the vol down key along with the power button, but the only thing i get is the phone showing Samsug vibrant and restarting over and over again.
Am i doing something wrong? I just downloaded an app from the market called wuick boot, i tried selecting the bootlader option, but same thing, the phone just reboots, and i get back to the phone menu.
Any help will be more than apprecciated.
Thanks in advance!
Is your phone rooted? I had the same issue and resorted to just doing it by using a terminal command on my rooted phone.
If you have a terminal app, just do this:
Code:
>su
#reboot download

Just so happens I nearly bricked mine last night. Couldn't even get into recovery mode or see the charging icon when I plugged it in. Here's what I did (after much trial and error):
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons
...and that got be from looking like I was dead in the water to download mode and a stock ROM flash.

Work for New Vibrant?
Hey guys, I have a new Vibrant, Im guessing its the new batch of Vibrant because I can't use the volume up+down +power to go into recovery or download mode. I just wonder if this also works for my version of Vibrant because I did a lag fix and it bricked me... Therefore if this works, I would be so happy that I will cry. =( I'll try it anyways, but if anyone have a similar device to mine, please let me know I would love to get some info on it. =( I just needs it to be in Download Mode to flash it with ODIN back to stock. =)
By the way, would you mind telling me what stock rom you use? and software to flash it? Thanks a lot! I appreciate all of your help! Im really desperate to get my phone back to work... its been showing up vibrant screen make a start up sound and go blank... so scary...

Did you remove the sim? Is the phone plugged into a pc via the usb cord? From my experience, the vibrant will only go into download mode if it's plugged to a pc.
I think I also got the new batch of vibrant. Maybe we should get a list of release date and serial of the phone. Maybe we might be able to figure out which phone can or can not use the vol down + power. Mine is 8/13/2010 rs 170-0412

I will try that as soon as I get the phone back. My cousin has it now and he's trying to look for methods to help me fix it too. =( So i will go get the phone soon and try your methods of removing everything. I just wanted to ask you guys to see if you guys had that recovery mode function (volume up _ volume down +power) disabled by T-Mobile. Because if all of you guys have the new batch of Vibrant then most likely mine will have a chance too. =) But thanks for the reply and the tip I will definitely follow all of your instruction and update further about this case. Hopefully it would work with your methods for the new vibrant batch. No one here seem to post much threads about the new batch.

Yeah I definitely got the new batch since I cant use that recovery mode function like everyone else here does. I also got mine in August, 8/28/10. I dont have the box and phone to see the serial right now since it was taken to my cousin house to try and figure out a way to get it into download mode. =( But from the looks of it, anything from August is disabled... wonder hows the July one. My brother has a Vibrant from late July, which is July 23, 2010 and his recovery mode isn't disable at all. =(

I have another story. I bricked my Vibrant trying to go back to stock using Odin it hung on a step. The brick to where the (Cell Phone ! Computer) comes up. After 30 minutes of panic trying to get my phone to go into download mode. I opened Kies mini, unplugged my USB connector plugged it into a new USB slot then hooked up my Vibrant and re installed the drivers. It found it. But I still couldn't do anything. So then I closed Odin reopened it unplugged and then re plugged my Vibrant back in. It found it on a COM port so then I tried a restore from there and it let me do it. Wow! I am amazed at how hard it is to permanently brick this phone.
So i rooted the phone and installed froyo rom with clockworkmod recovery or whatever.. the phone was working fine but then i downloaded OCLF and clicked unroot the phone like an idiot. Still worked fine thoughh... i wanted to reroot the phone but then realized i couldnt get into recovery.. so i did a factory reset and now im stuck on a boot screen that says galaxy s gti 9000 and on the bottom it says samsung..
Just ODIN back to stock... and continue to do whatever you want from there...

As long as you can get into download mode, your phone is not totally bricked. Vibrants are very very hard to brick. Trust me, I have messed mine up more times than I can count, but managed to fix it. First off, can u tell me what windows version ur using, do u have the Samsung drivers installed, what button combination have u tried to get into download mode. I know you probably tried a ton, bit this will help me narrow down what will and will not work for you.

Have Odin open and everything setup on the PC.
Then just take out the battery and make sure your phone isn't connected to the PC yet. Then wait maybe 5 seconds and plug your phone into the USB without the battery in the phone. Then press both volume buttons only and install the battery while holding both volume buttons.

Can you get adb to work?
I had the same thing happen earlier, I was flashing back a stock ROM in Odin, which I have done before, and this time it was doing the cache files and the phone went black and removed from Odin, now this PC-Computer icon is up. Holding down the power-button just blanks for a second then puts back to the phone-pc screen, my phone was hardware locked so the power+volumes does nothing, and the computer won't recognize the phone in adb.

Download Mode trick.. it worked for me.
Ok guys! here you go.... If you feel like you semi-bricked your phone and cannot boot into download mode.. there is a trick that might work for some or it might not doesn't hurt to try, but damn sure worked for me... Make sure phone is connected to computer with ODIN Opened,..
1. Unplug your phone from usb
2. Take out battery (and mini sd and sim)
3. Plug usb back into phone.
4. Hold down up and down volume keys while putting battery back into the phone. IT SHOULD BOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE. if not sorry. Sometimes when people flash back and forth the up and down volume keys get reversed... so try volume down and power.. or volume up and power. GOOD LUCK!!!

No luck, currently going through a relentless trial-error process of different usb-battery-sim/sd-volume-power buttons. Just found out insurance which I thought was covered on my phone via Asurion through T-Mobile is only covering one of the phones on my line, yet I bought them both with warranties at the same time... Pretty bummed, Only is looking like paying the deductable fee for a new phone as if lost/stolen.. Hope something pulls through.
Just a small deviation
1. Take out the battery
2. Plug the USB into the phone
3. Plug USB into the PC
4. Hold down the Volume up/down + Power button with one hand
5. Put the battery back in with the other hand
6. Wait for the phone2pc icon to flash 2 times and on the second time when the screen goes black release only the POWER BUTTON
7. When you see the digging Android you can let go of the Volume buttons
That is the only way I could get it to work

If you look couple threads down, you'll see my thread, and I am having the same problem. Slightly different cause, but of the same nature, and the exact same problem. I have not had any real help yet, but I have been scouring the forums here. And I think the only option, if none of the button combinations work, as they don't seem to for me, and you're getting a complete brick, is perhaps the usb jig resistor method... but even that I don't think is 100% because some of the people who created the guides on how to make the jig resistor said it only worked for softbrick, not total brick like our cases. Unless someone can verify otherwise...
Thanks for the reply man i don't know what to do man i spent $400 0n this phone there must be a way but no luck on google either

Try this. Take your sim card, microsd and battery out. Leave battery out for a few minutes.
Open odin and load with the 512 pit and Jfd tar.
Plug one end of usb cable into computer only
take your vibrant with everything still out of it
hold down both vol buttons (vol up and down) and never let go
do not touch power
while holding down both volume buttons plug in your usb cable into the phone with the other end previously in the computer...do all this while holding down volume buttons and dont let go
now grab your battery with your free hand and while still holding down the vol buttons now plug in your battery
if all goes well your.phone should go into download mode at which pt you can let go of volume buttons.
If this doesnt work you can maybe try the jig if your bootloader is intact
also since you were messing with voodoo you might need to first flash eugenes froyo tbat doesnt brick...im not too sure on this so ask around and look it up.
You need this first of all (Froyo that does not brick)
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=8
jordanjf86 said:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!

iv'e tryied that i read somewhere that it's a hard brick
Then try accessing download mode by first, removing the sd card, sim, and battery, second, plugging in the usb cable, third, holding down the two buttons on the side of the phone, and finally, while holding down those two buttons, inserting the battery.
I havee tried that mothod many times no luck just a blank screen
Then commit a fraud and send it back to T-Mobile saying it suddenly stopped working.
Or if you prefer a wild card you can use a JIG

Edit: Never mind it will not work for you. Sorry :/
Edit 2: The phone does not even turn the buttons on??
no nothing turns on at all no power but when i put it to charge it heats up but no battery screen
Yea, take it to T-Mobile and get it replaced. I got mine switched at T-Mobile once, and it would only boot to the custom Nexus animation....the lady still swapped it out. It all depends on the rep, if they won't switch it, go to a different location. Eventually you'll find someone.
i don't think thats possible seeing as im in Canada bought it off ebay
take it to a phone expert. he will flash a bootloader to your phone.

Download Odin and Official T-Mo Vibrant JFD firmware. Once done open up Odin on your PC. I would do a battery pull first then when your done plug the phone into your PC and iniciate the 3 button combo to get into download mode. Then just put your 512 pit file and your JFD rom into pda. Then flash away.
What recovery are you in 2e,3e,voodoo ? If you had a backup you can restore. First you have to locate the backup or the original rom zip. Look through sdcard and find them. If you had rom manager, look in cwm backups, you might find nandroid backups there. You'll have to install original zip or backup. Original if on sacard should'nt be hard to find. Be patient and don't do anything drastic !

i rooted the phone, downloded titanium back up and rom manager, tried to flash the sonofskywalker rom that is on rom manager, after multiple tries where the phone would just reboot to the way it was "stock" then i tried to flash it by going through the sd card i beleive and now it stuck in recovery mode and will only boot thru to the samsung vibrant screen then goes back to recovery, or when it is plugged in it just shows the battery sign but the battery sign doesnt say charging it is just frozen on that screen.

1st you need to calm down. You may not understand the steps if you panic.
The instruction in the link is good. If not, watch this video also...it's the same thing.

If did it correctly and cannot get into download mode, that's a different story. I had the same problem as you and ODIN it back with JFD fixes it. I got mine fixed from the thread below and watching youtube.

ok, calming down now, haha.
I have odinn downladed and the the other files it says i need, the only problem is i can not get it into download mode.........
Iv done it the same way he is doing it in the video and it will either take me to the recovery page or just recycle the battery screen back to me.....
try this:
Take everything out of the phone
Plug the USB into your pc
Hold ONLY the volume keys down (keep them held)
Plug the USB into your phone
Put the battery back in should be download mode
Let go of the volume keys

so when i do that it just brings up the big charging battery and it has the little sun dial in the middle that usually indicates loading, but it just stays stuck on that screen. Thats why im so confused it wont go past that screen.
EDIT- and i am leaving the sd card and the sim card out when im doing that correct? although i have tried it both waysss.
And it does the same thing if you hold all three buttons down and let the charging indicator flash 2 times and when it goes out on the third time let go of the power button only?
If it doesn't work with that method you may actually have a hardware locked phone that you need a jig for..

yea it does the same thing, when its plugged in so far nothing will come up but the frozen battery screen......... im not exactly sure what a jig is or how to use it haha but when its plugged in thats what happens, and if it isnt pluggged in it takes me to recovery screen.......
thats really odd because it shouldnt go to the charging screen in the amount of time it takes to bring up download mode.
Your absolutely sure your holding both the volume keys down and putting the battery in with your other hand with it plugged into the phone and pc... because it should skip the charging animation all together.

yep just tried it again, it boots automatically into that battery view..... i tried holding power with it to right after that and the screen will go black and then the little sundial appears and then it goes right back into the frozen battery screen.....

You may have to sign up but I think this is gonna be you option unless you can get someone more adept to help out because it shouldn't go to the battery screen.
Let me run thru this on more time lol
everything out of the phone.....
phone plugged into the Computer and plugged into the Phone...(no way possible to be on the charging screen without a battery....just sayin)
holding down both of the volume keys at the same time with your thumb...(not letting go of them for anything)
using your other hand to put the battery back in...(still holding on to those volume keys for dear life...)
and walla...it should be in download mode...
if not I think you may need the link above...
