there will be a way yes, but we need a custom kernel for that and so we have to wait for the bootloader to be hacked

Then how come the market is filled with "overclock" apps?. Can you overclock every android phone except x10? Or are those simply scams/virus/fakes?

Because some phones can be, ours can't.
Alright. Looking forward to a kernel which allows us to do so then.

Okay! So now we Xperians have Android 2.1(Eclair) on our devices. Now, We need to discuss about the next version of Android, i.e. 2.2(Froyo) because still we aren't able to get most out of our phones.
Also, from various sources, we have come to know that Sony Ericsson is not interested in releasing the Froyo update for our X8 now, for the time being, say 4 months.
This means that our devs need to do the hard work and port Froyo onto it!
This thread is for you devs. Cheers!
There will come new update in january i thing.
I thing it will 2.3 and if you see your firmware info there is writing 2.1-update1.
So there will be new update soon.

Ha. What devs?
4 monthes seems a little quick actually. You'd think it'll be much easier and quicker just to wait for the latest update than trying to port it ourselves.
it's mean x8 will update to froyo..?? this is true news..??
No official word from sony, so I'd say no.
Last I read was some "leak" from a Turkish SE employee. He claimed the x10 (no mention of the x8) would get an update to 2.2 in Q2 2011.
Found it: http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/12/03...al-froyo-xperia-x10-update-coming-in-q2-2011/
Considering the x8 has a lower update priority than the x10; doubt there's any point hoping for an update before next generation "mid-range" android phones come out, sporting 1ghz chips, 256mb++ storage and Gingerbread.

Yes, there will be updates, but they will fix the bugs in the Eclair only.
No word from Sony that there will be Froyo on it, and some devs think that Xperia X8 wont handle the Froyo as good as any other phone does.....(i read it in some blog, if this information is wrong, then there should be no blame on me!)

No word from Sony yet. But we don't see any updates(Froyo) on it for a quarter or so....
In France, SFR just published 2.1 for X10 mini on 1th december, so i don't expect to have 2.1 on X8 before january / february.
It will let the time to xda dev teams to find a way to make it root
We dont need 2.2 we need option to install apps on sd card.
They can change 2.1 to do that.
Just provide us with an easy to root build and we will do the needful
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
hm ..... root to 2.1 is not. can not be started. sorry my english is poor
That's what I am saying SE should have provided us an easy to root rom

yes you are right it should be easier but it seems that it is not so easy

Again, why should they make it easy to root? It gives hackers a way into people's phones, by getting into root they could do anything they wanted without the users permission.
Having the 'super user' app isn't going to stop hackers from using the same exploit to gain root.

I agree even though we all do it we do so at out own risk it can cause problems. For those hoping for a 2.2 update SE confirmed a while back theyre would be no 2.2 update for the x8.

Where did they say that? I've never seen such an announcement.
so updates on the Android 2.2 is supported only for x10. It should also for x8 and x10 Mini / pro. sorry my english is poor

I confirm.
I read it on an official SE thread somewhere but I don't find the link. And I read it on many "tech" blogs relaying the information.
They won't make a 2.2 for X10 / X8.
I was wondering if also x10 mini/pro will get multitouch trough an update
Or multitouch is just for x10?

Exactly!, its a real achievement from SE that they have listened to the public and done something about it
I wish we could find out if they have plans to update to 2.2 as well!
Just knowing that would be a relief
Great news, looking forward to this.
Yet I fear that Sony did not release the multitouch.

Sorry for being a skeptic but where did SE mention in that report the E10 or U10 will get multi touch? I see lots about the X10 but nowhere does it mention anything at all about the mini/pro let alone the X8 getting multi touch at any point.. however as a positive point we know the mini/pro digitizer does actually support multi touch (its the same hardware as used in the Microsoft Kin 2 which has pinch to zoom etc) so in theory it should be easy.. thats not to say SE will do it and I don't think there are enough DEV's interested in the mini range to hack it themselves.. but lets wait until the new range of phones comes out (the mini replacement looks amazing with a 1ghz processor and the X8 screen..) perhaps we will see multi touch but not until then I'm afraid..

mini up to 2 fingers
mini pro up to 10 fingers !!!!
however SE made an contract with apple so we wont get multitouch,
at least not officialy

yeah agreed, so does real dualtouch fix this, and if so is there a way of getting it for x10 or is it defo hardware restrictive?
Thanks

Yeah real dualtouch wouldn't have these issues.
As for hardware vs software, no one knows for sure.
I can't see it getting resolved
right...
hope its possible

Well no, because it has a different CPU, GPU and chipset. You can only flash an Xperia T ROM if someone has actually ported it, but I don't think that would be very easy. We have loads of great ROMs and I can't see what we're lacking that the Xperai T devs have?

Chill mate. Everyone has likes and dislikes. Personal opinions. There's no such thing as the best rom. Most good devs never claim my Rom is the best. They just put forward their work. People who like it, use it. Those who don't like it, use something else. Let's keep this friendly and not create wars over which Rom is the best. The best rom for "you" is whatever the hell "you" like.

The minimum specs well exceed the hardware of our phone, but we're not supposed to be able to run JellyBean either, so I guess it might be possible
I wouldn't mind trying it anyway, it looks pretty good.
