Just as title says. Ive tried all the fixes for it with no luck.
I dont really care for the trackball anyway, but I cant load roms without being able to scroll down.
Any suggestions xda community.
i had that problem like a week ago, didnt find any answers, i went to verizon and told them my trackball wasnt working and they were going to try and make me pay for another under my warranty,i told them that I read on many forums that it was a hardware issue and after they researched it they exchanged my phone for free.thats the only thing i can tell you to do. hopefully they can do it for you also.
It's the infamous trackball issue. I had ignored it until my came down with it a few months ago, it was around 6 months old. I called Verizon and got a replacement phone, they shouldn't charge you for anything. I couldn't see any other way around it, since I too am a rooted user. Good Luck!
i agree. its a known crappy trackball issue. call verizon and they should sent a replacement. there was an ruu that was an exe ran from your computer that should (someone correct me if i'm wrong) allow you to go back to stock on your eris if you are worried about the verizon people asking about your root. it was posted here, but i just looked and couldn't find it. trying to reup now. will edit this post with a link.
uploaded file http://www.multiupload.com/0B4EAQE25I fyi i'm not responsible if you brick your phone blah blah blah. i actually had nothing to do with writing the file, i just couldn't find it so i reposted it. it is an exe to run on a windows based computer with your eris attached via usb.

Here is a brutal hack from the Eris Root forum on AF.
I works, but you need to use adb from a PC, and be comfortable working at the command line.
bftb0
I actually sent my phone rooted with KaosFroyo on it and Verizon didn't say anything! I've heard of a handful of people that have done the same.
People have sent it back no problems, but if you're worried run the RUU.
Before anyone asks, yes I searched! Looked through numerous pages of crap without any results.
Today, I rooted my Vibrant, and flashed Axura 2.2.7
To be quite frank about it, I hate it. It is slower than my phone was previously, and is slightly annoying to me. After rooting and flashing the custom ROM, I seen all the threads about a supposed OTA update tomorrow. I understand I cannot get the OTA update while on a custom ROM.
With the combo of not being able to receive the OTA (if it happens) and not liking Axura, I'd like to return to stock, but I'm confused!
Could someone point me in the right direction towards returning back to the way my phone was hours ago?
Thanks in advance,
Syko.
Odin would be your best bet use jfd tar file and 512pit file then odin the ji6 tar file all can be found in the developers section, if you would like I can upload said files when I get home.
Sent from my SGH-T959
Go to the thread "[REF]***Vibrant Directory(Bible)Rev3.0--Important announcement!--***(1/6/2011)***" in Developmental section and get ODIN 1.7 from Useful links category. Also get PIT and PDA file from the "*(ROM) OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN3/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working) --justanothercrowd" from Roms (Odin3) category.
Open ODIN and load the PIT file from the last thread to the PIT input and the PDA file to the PDA input.
Connect phone to computer while in Download mode (I hold volume up and down while plugging USB to do this).
Press Start in ODIN.
Should flash and restore stock.
Thanks for the information!
P.S. - Your links didnt work, but I'll find em!
Also, another quick question.
After doing what you said, do I just reinstall Titanium Backup from the market and reload all my backed up data from the internal_SD?
how can i wipe the internal sd?

Typical dickheads. Instead of cluttering up a topic with your useless bull****, how about you two give some helpful information to people like others have. There are 600,000+ threads on this website with just under 10 million posts. Sort of hard to weed through **** with nonsense like you two are posting.
Thanks to those who posted the good information.

HAHA im not going to get into link-war with you, bud...just watch the stickies, more often than not, the answers are right in front of your face, then you wont have to deal with "typical dickheads"
Confusing
I will say that it is incredibly difficult to get a grasp on this stuff for a newbie, especially flashing, dealing witk kernels, etc. Even though all of this information is contained within stickies, it is still very, very confusing.
You open a stickie and see a bunch of random-colored text - some are links, some aren't. It's much easier to simply ask a question and let an expert respond. Your posts denigrating such a person do nothing but clutter the threads and contribute to an unfriendly environment. Just my 2 cents.

im not denying for some people, that it could be confusing.
im not a forum angel believe me hahaha noooo way, however i will say that when i first joined XDA, i was overwhelmed with information too, but i kept with it and did my own research, because the few times i asked questions i either got flamed, or no one answered at all. so i stopped asking, and started researching.
also, you have to understand, that even though there are probably some people who get legitimately confused and overwhelmed...everyone knows that the majority of people who ask questions are simply being lazy. IM NOT SAYING THATS WHAT ANYONE HERE IS DOING, but im just saying its a fact. People want answers, not research.
so when someone says "i searched but couldnt find anything", but the stickies are right at the top of the page. theres nothing in that statement the indicates he looked at the stickie, or found his information, but is still having trouble understanding. thats why he was pounced on a little (not even that badly btw haha, ive seen muuuuuuch worse)
if you read something that you dont understand, post a link and point out what you dont understand about it....that way no one can challenge you. pre-emptive strikes!!!
Fair enough.
So, since you seem to know your way around this stuff, could you advise me on something?
I flashed my first ROM the other day (Axura 2.2.6) after reading a lot on this site. Now that T-MO is set to release official Froyo, I am not sure what to do. I really do not know if I want to go back to stock and get the official 2.2, because won't that put all the T-Mo bloatware back on my device? Plus, I figure that once the de3vs get access to the 2.2 source, their 2.2 ROMs will be bettee than the official one anyway. Your thoughts? Should I just sit tight? Thanks in advance.
Having an issue with this now.
-Downloaded the .PIT file and the .TAR (PDA?) file from the sticky.
-Loaded ODIN3 v1.70.
-Put each file in its appropriate spot
-Put phone into download mode
-Hit Start on ODIN
And nothing happened, other than ODIN saying this immediately.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
The boxes Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and Reset time are all 3 checked when I opened ODIN. No others are.
PHONE, CSC, Etc., and Dump input lines are all empty.
What went wrong?
Edit:
Forgot to add, I downloaded VooDoo Toggle before doing any of this, and turned VooDoo OFF, rebooted phone and successfully got the "Voodoo Disabled" voice from the phone
Getting desperate. To me this phone is junk now. I've never experienced any negative things running it all stock with just a simple root done. Always heard, and I suppose "expected" ROMS to run faster, and just flat out, this one does not.
I've tried redoing the sequences told to in ODIN three times now all with the same results. End up having to pull the plug, pop the battery out, and allow it to reboot again.

Are you 100% sure you have the correct drivers installed? And you are in download mode ?
Try using the drivers from this source. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929 use the links provided in the first post.
This sticky should have just about everything you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
PM me if you have any questions, I may be slow on the response as I am going to be leaving for work soon.
meh I bricked it. Woke up still in download mode and Odin unchanged from where I left it. Pulled the cord, and pulled the battery. when powered back up I got the "Phone ! Computer" display.
I think ODIN hung up on my mom's laptop that I was using (Constantly happens..) So Im in the process of downloading all the files needed on my desktop. Stupid JFD file takes forever to download =\

SIT TIGHT.
trustm e.
the new froyo is NOT worth it.
its laggier than the 2.1 we have.
theres about 5% more bloatware added.
mostly, the whole thing sucks right now.
wait a while, till devs make their own roms better using this, but heres one you can use thats pretty fast currently, and is stock, but modified with no bloatware etc.

if odin is freezing a bunch, try a different version.
as for me, i use older ones because the new ones just do not work.
find a version that works, and do not update it.
So here's my story, I am not entirely new to rooting as I have successfully rooted my Motorola Droid, My Droid X2, My Acer Iconia a500 (twice), My aunts Lg something, and my mothers Kindle Fire.
So a few days ago my Droid X2 started acting up, and would go hours on end sometimes without working.
I was very happy to find out that Verizon would replace it with no hassle as it was less than a year old. I got the replacement yesterday and it's working great... that is until I found out it came stock with 2.3.5 right out of the box.
Now I have always trusted XDA forums and have used them for a long time (although I finally just registered today to ask this)
The only root method I can find is to downgrade to 2.3.4 and then root, then install voodoo root protector, then upgrade.
Now I saw a few things about possibilities of bricking your phone when trying to read those tutorials (I have never had to downgrade before) and I was a bit concerned.
I was mainly wondering, I don't care about loosing data on the phone. I have a backup sd card I can use if I need to format that, and like I said, the phone is new and actually doesnt have a single app I have installed on it yet.
Is there any easy way to go back down to 2.3.4 for my situation? I just got the free phone and don't want to brick it a day later you know?
From what I gather, you can SBF back down to 2.3.4 with no problem. There may be a certain way you have to do it though. I have never been on stock 2.3.5 so I cant tell you from experience. But Everyone says it's possible.
That's my question in a nutshell
Yeah, I read a tutorial about how to do it using RSDlite, which I downloaded to my comp.
Now what I'm cautious about is white file to use. One of the tutorials had one, now while I know a tiny bit about rooting I know NOTHING about flashing it back, I wasn't sure if there was a way that this could screw up my phone, as it seems everything tested is with a phone that had already been rooted, or if there is anything phone specific in that file, or even if it actually is an OTA original (I'd rather not mess around with anything customized right now)
Whatever is the easiest method for getting be back down, I know how to take it from there as I've done it before.
Thanks for the response though!

So you have never used an SBF file? If you would have used it on your broken Droid X2 when it wasnt acting right, it might have fixed your phone. An SBF file simply wipes everything of your phone (excluding your SD card) and flashes brand new software on it. The SBF files are provided by Motorola so its not like you are using something made by a dev and can break your phone easily. You should be able to use RSD lite to flash the 2.3.4 SBF file and you should be fine. But then again, I have never SBF'd from 2.3.5 to 2.3.4 personally so I would feel bad saying go ahead with no worries and something bad happen. So wait for someone else to respond first.
Thanks!
Thanks for that info!
Also, I doubt that would have fixed my old phone, it seems pretty much like a hardware issue. The screen will display static for hours on end (think like an old tv if you didnt have cable plugged in) I think it's a loose connection somewhere or something. I didn't bother to really troubleshoot it myself though because I was like "lets see if Verizon will give me a new one" and they did, and because they didnt have any "replacements" i got a brand new one, with a brand new battery, so I wasn't going to argue the fact
Anyway, if the file is from Motorola where can I get it? I saw on a verizon forum that they were not allowed to post it there (or is it "from motorola" in the sense it was leaked?)
Thanks for all your help so far, you've been great!

Yeah, it does sounds like it was a hardware problem. Actually, I never thought about if motorola had a list of sbf files somewhere or if they were just leaked or what. I always downloaded them from threads like these. I just know they are made by motorola. You got me curious now. hmmm...
Duh
forget about my question as to where to get them, just saw the sticky at the front of this forum.
Although, it would be interesting to know if they were officially given out by motorola or leaked

What's An SBF File?
• SBF Is A File Leaked By Motorola That Is The System Image Flashed By RSDLite.

bro, you wont have any problems downgrading/sbfing back to 2.3.4, i did it without any problems
i used sbf_flash through linux though idk about RSDLite
If you are sending in a GS2 for warranty, do they care if it's sent back with 2.3.4 or ICS? I remember most saying they just check to see if it powers on and don't really look at version or anything like that.
Odin to 2.3.4 is much quicker than Odin and then Kies
I don't see why it would matter. As long as there is no trace of being rooted and you have the stock rom on there, you're probably good either way.
Agreed.
Sent it back last week with 2.3.4. It is getting shipped back to me now after being fixed.
Sure are alot of these popping up lately. obviously we are seeing how long this device lasts.

I know. and I am.
There's basically another thread in general section.
Went back to 2.3.4 and tried to update with Kies to ICS just in case. I forgot how horrible Kies is. Issue after issue. Just left it at 2.3.4. I'll probably send it off that way or considering flashing UCLE5 tar to get it to ICS. Although I'm quite not in the mood to deal with that.

After scouring for two days I am just giving up and asking for help. Here is what happened. I have a At&t Galaxy Note. It was rooted but very glitchy. Kept shutting off, weird lines going through the screen, my camera didnt work. I know for that process I did TWRP and cyanogenmod. I went back to att stock from a forum found here. After I did that I had no google apps anywhere. SO my brother found some gapps.zip thing. He put it on my phone after I had restored back to a previous version that did have them. Now my phone wont stay on for longer than a minute. I cant get it to recognize on my computer. So I cant even try to get into it to see if I can fix anything. Everytime I conntect it, a message pops up that says that it cannot install MTP... Even if I restore again, as I have tried. It is still not letting me use it. Then my brother decided to re root it I guess. And that is all well and fine but i still cant use my phone. I saw something about a .zip that removes gapps but I havent been able to use that as my phone just wont install it in recovery mode. Can someone please please help me!!!!

wow. the first few sentences were making sense, then you just lost it grammar wise and lost me. it would have helped knowing what ROM was on your phone. from symptoms it sounds as if t was a 4.2 ROM with no GAPPS and some serious OC/UV issues.
but you lost me with your English and the "TWRP and CYANOGENMOD thingy" i know what they are obviously, but what you did with them is a HUGE guessing game. one person not knowing what they are doing is bad enough, but two of you.......... cant do that man. kind of like masturbating with someone elses hand man. who cleans up the mess.
absolute clean slate is going to be you best option in my opinion. the "Super Everything Thread" is going to be your new best friend.
read it, live it, learn it......................understand it. put yourself in position to help yourself first.
tutorals on YOUTUBE can help too.
can you get DOWNLOAD MODE?
do you have ODIN?
do you have PDA/ TAR files you need?
you may need to re-install the DRIVERS for phone on computer
there is a glossary in Super thread, that is why i capped these words. key points and things you need to do. its a marathon not a sprint.
go slow, one step at time, understand what you are doing. even rehearse it, i did. be confident in what you are doing. make sure you have files for I717.
read the OP's for ROM's
some need GAPPS (4.2) and some don't (4.1.2) or Touchwiz
the new 4.3 will also need GAPPS and there are 4.2 and 4.3 GAPPS. again make sure you have right files. all the more reason to take your time.
and uh, don't just let someone flash whatever on your phone, that's how you get a BRICK.
good luck and let us know.
if i have stated anything wrong, someone else will be buy to correct.
nothing wrong with how i am telling, others just may have shortcuts.
what you do with it is up to you, i just like to understand what i am doing, cause i will have to fix it.
but keep us posted

Im sorry, Im just really frustrated. My phone was working fine yesterday and now its a very expensive paperweight. And not only that but Im having problems with my laptop. Apparently the hard drive just went clonkers for no reason and now I have to put in a new one. Yes I can get into download mode. Yes I have Odin. Yes I have the PDA/TAR files. I made sure everything was for the sgh i717. I read each process ten times before I did it. I installed my drivers from the Samsung website. I think my problem is that the internal sd card isnt being recognized. When I go into recovery mode, which is CMW btw, it gives me an eemc 07 error message and says it cant mount. When I can get my phone to stay on long enough for thecpu to recognize it it doesnt say sd card just phone memory. I will be sure to read the super everything thread. As for a ROM there isnt one on here. If I try to put one one it wont install and keeps saying that eemc 07 error message. Thanks for responding. Im spiraling in self-pity right now but im determined to get my phone back.
If you get it back to stock, do a complete erase/format, and your still having all these glitches, there's a good chance there's hardware issues. Especially if your not able to see the external SD card etc.
If your the original owner (I.E. you got it from a dealer with a plan), and you can get your counter reset to 0 on stock with these issues still showing up, it might be easiest to take it in and get a replacement. That is, if you have a warranty option available.

If your the original owner (I.E. you got it from a dealer with a plan), and you can get your counter reset to 0 on stock with these issues still showing up, it might be easiest to take it in and get a replacement. That is, if you have a warranty option available.

Its not the external sd but the internal one. Its just gone... I know that this is the problem at this point. But I have no idea how to resolve that issue. I have no idea where it is or how to get it back. I have been on xda and droidforums for an extreme amount of time trying to find a solution but nothing going. The only way I have seen to reset my counter is to use triangle away. As I cannot even use my phone due to freezing and restarting I cannot even install that app. I am hoping that one person in the wide world has had this problem and fixed it and will read this and tell me how to fix it.
Status 7 means you need to update you recovery

so where are you at then?
what does your phone show as running?
settings/about phone
are you just going to leave it or are you still going to pursue customizing?

I'm running 4.1.2 now. I will not be customizing like that for some time. I might think about it later but I'm so glad to have it back I'm just going to enjoy it for awhile.

you know, something going wrong with mine was my biggest worry. when I decide to screw something up, I can really screw something up. so I was very hesitant. it probably took me 2-3 months to get the courage to flash. but that was most likely a good thing. it made me be very thorough in the process.
all I am saying is don't let it completely discourage you. you have time.
glad you got phone back, I know it can be a bit of a scary thing. I have come across an issue or two myself and actually surprised myself by fixing myself. actually a pretty good feeling.
anyway, stick around, there are some pretty amazing folks here.
