Hello.
I got this phone a week ago and since the beginning I had this problem that the phone would not start right away when I press the power button.
It shows a loading circle on the screen and then a grey battery sign and then the phone just goes off.
The battery is full.
The same thing happens all time when I keep pressing the button.
Then after removing the battery and keep trying to turn on the phone, it will turn on randomly.........
It takes alot of time to turn on the phone and its very annoying.
I currently have Nero 3, but I am sure I had this problem on 2.1 stock aswell.
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
Thanks.
EDIT: I just plugged in the USB into the phone and it started charging the phone, and then I pressed the power button and it turned on. But it is not that there is no charge in the phone that is causing the issue, the charge is showing full when the phone was turned on.....
do you only have this issue cutting the phone on when plugged into the usb/power cable?
I only turn my phone on when not plugged in, no issues at all. It is hard when it's plugged in though, I notice I have to hold down the power button a long time.
I just had something like this happen tonight. My phoned started saying usb connected, then the media scanner, then usb connected etc....strange part is...I wasn't plugged into anything. I turned off the phone and it wouldn't turn back on. I got the loading circle twice then nothing. I had to plug it in and turn it on then unplug it for it to boot up right. Seems to be working now, but I want to know what caused it...

reset your phone, see if that changes anything. If not, Root, DL ROM manager and flash nero v3 then enable voodoo =)
Its amazing.
I think adfree is the culprit. Reverted and installed, and it's gone...

I still have the problem, I have rooted, odin back to stock, tried everything and still this is happening.
The only way to turn the phone back on when it is power off, is the insert a usb cable into it, which is connected to the computer and then hold the power button and then it will turn it.
Else, it will just keep showing that circle thing with the battery sign.
Any solution to fix this?
odin back to stock and start all over
I had to send mine in for a replacement. Sounds like everyone I have heard with this problem had to do the same.

I cant power my phone on without having the usb plugged in first. Does anyone know a solution to this or have any idea what the problem may be?
Plus it always says its connected and charging even though it isnt...
I odined back to stock but still nada...
Does the power button respond after powering the phone like lock/unlock screen?
if yes one of the power button solder point is loose.
if no then the power button is completely off the board.
but try first to restore to stock using odin.
good luck
So you plug it in. turn it on. Can you then unplug it and it will stay on? If not I'm thinking battery.

Bummer dude sounds like you have a bad usb port. This happen to me a few months back. It would not power on unless hooked up to the charger, in addition it always thought that the usb was plugged when it wasn't. It stopped doing it for a day, then just came back. Tmobile replaced it.
I picked up a used Vibrant last week and it initially worked fine. However, it still had 2.1 installed so I decided to update to 2.2 with Kies Mini. After 4 hours of screwing around and with it and much searching of forums, I finally got it upgraded, but something seems to have happened to the phone in the process.
The phone acts like the USB is permanently on, even if no cable is attached. The USB plugged in notification stays on even when the cable is unplugged. After I charge the phone and unplug it, the battery indicator continues to show that it is charging. The main problem is that the phone gets stuck in some kind of loop when the phone is turned off and never truly turns off. Initially, what would happen was that the little loading circle indicator would appear then the battery charging icon would pop up for a moment. However, since there was no cable plugged in, it would disappear. After several seconds of a black screen, the loading circle would come back up. This loop would simply continue over and over. Pulling the battery and putting it back in did nothing; the loop would just start over again the moment the battery was inserted. The phone would not respond to the power button while this loop was going.
At this point, I was still able to get the phone to boot by plugging in the USB cable, waiting until it started to charge (with the green battery icon) and then hitting the power button. This went on for several days. Today, I decided to take the battery out for several hours to see if anything would reset. However, things only got worse. The loading icon still pops up but now the charging icon doesn't come up, even if the USB is plugged in. I just get a loop where the loading circle pops up, disappears, comes back, and so on. I am now also not able to power on the phone with the power button.
I am still able to get into download mode (but not recovery mode) so I flashed everything back to stock using Odin and the instructions on this forum. This does get the phone booted back up, but as soon as I turn it off again everything starts all over.
So now I have a phone that, if it is ever turned off or loses power, has to be reset, wiping everything in the process. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it some kind of bootloader issue?
Odin, put 2.1 stock rom back.
Like the post before me mentioned, Odin back to stock 2.1
And personally, I'd much rather install stock froyo with ODIN rather than KIES.
Or just use a Custom ROM altogether.
As I mentioned in the original post, I've already restored the phone with Odin several times and it has absolutely no effect. It allows the phone to boot once but as soon as it is turned off again the loop starts over.

I have heard of KIES updates screwing phones before! I would contact T-mobile and tell them the situation....letting them know its used and had stock T-mo 2.1 and after using KIES to upgrade to 2.2 it screwed your phone.
Eventhough its used and You didnt buy it from them, they would probably fix it for you for free since their update program caused the issue...If it was a stock phone then they will probably fix it.
edit: in your story to them, leave out the part about you using ODIN...i am sure they will call that a void of the warranty.
Hi everyone
My SGS 2 won't start anymore
I charged my phone, then went somewhere, used the phone, put it back in my pocket and the next time i looked at it it was shut down and i couldn't turn it on anymore, nothing happens at all.
theres no problem with the battery (it works on another SGS 2)
I rooted my phone and put lightning rom 1.2 on it. i had no problem rooting the phone and its the first rom since stockrom.
What should I do?
So you mean your phone won't boot anymore? There is no Samsung logo or anything?

no logo, no vibration, just black
tried normal startup as well as "vol down, home, power"
Recovery vol up + home + pwr release at splash screen .
You can either try the usb recovery jig though this poster says it does not work but in my view worth a try.

Or take your chance and return the phone under warranty .

Did you try removing battery, replacing and then turning on. I had the same issue yesterday and this worked for me.

So what happened? Did they work out that it was hacked and were you charged?
So my current phone stopped working so i was going to switch back to my galaxy s2 that has been sitting unused for about 3 months. When i tried to charged it the device will not turn on. The phone heats up when it sits on the charger for sometime. Also if i hook it up to my computer without the battery and hold the power and up/down button i can get to the warning screen about custom os to put it into downloading mode but when I press up to continue the screen just goes black and nothing happen if i press down to restart nothing happens it just goes black and i can hold the power and up/down to get back to the warning screen. The phone was rooted with iscrewd a long time ago before i when to a different phone. I have a usb jig but i cant even get to the warning screen with the battery in. Any thoughts??
You don't say, but I assume the phone was working normally when it was put on the shelf? If you can put your hands on a good I777 battery that is at least partially charged or better yet fully charged, put that in the phone and see if it will boot.
Sitting for three months will completely drain the battery, and this phone is somewhat sensitive to that. At least I have seen quite a number of reports of full discharge of the battery giving the same symptoms of not charging and getting warm.
I don't know what would account for you not being able to go beyond the warning screen with the battery out, especially if the phone was working normally before. The correct button configuration is the volume down button only, when the battery is out. I think the other buttons don't intefere though. Might try with just the vol - being held down and see what happens.
I vaguely remember someone having a problem similar to this, and I think he fixed it by getting the phone into download mode, putting the battery in, and leaving it in download mode to charge the battery. I think after a while he was able to boot the phone and let it finish charging while the phone was on.
This happened to me before. I just bought a new battery on Amazon and it worked just fine.

Hey guys, i need your help! something went haywire with my vibrant and i cant figure out why. its been acting up the last couple days. Phone will randomly turn off and wont turn back on, Phone is off and it keeps looping the charging screen, even when my phone is not plugged in. it'll show the charging screen, blink twice, and turn off, then loop it will continuously loop this until i take the battery out, it will continue to happen when i put the battery back in. i didnt load any new rom/kernels onto it for at least 3 months. any idea what could be happening? i can still get into download mode with the button combo if that helps.
Could be a bad battery or the battery isn't making good contact with the contact points on the phone. There may also be a pin that is bent or damaged inside the usb port. This could cause it to think its always charging and/or keep it from booting up. Maybe inspect it and bend the pin back up or down, be careful not to damage it any further. You could always try flashing back to stock too, if its software related then flashing to stock should fix it, but if its your usb port then flashing to stock may fail and soft brick you......if you connect to your pc and odin recognizes the phone then you should be ok.
