The Samsung default IME (AxT9IME.apk) is an interesting soft keyboard, sort of like a cross between the HTC IME and the stock Android keyboard. What makes it especially interesting to me is the cursor/text selection controls! Very helpful on the Vibrant, which doesn't have a trackball or trackpad.
The problem is the keyboard makes noise, and it can't be disabled. I tried pulling the APK from my phone and deleting the sounds, which resulted in force closes whenever I try to pull the keyboard up. I tried replacing the sounds with clips of silence the same length, which resulted in force closes as well.
I'd love to use this keyboard, but the "typewriter" sound effects are very annoying.

Hay synaesthetic,
What type of rom are you using? I just un-rar-ed that rom, then look inside the system directory and fish for the name of that keyboard apk file.
the rom that I looked in was M10.Alpha
in this example it is \M10.Alpha\system\app\AxT9IME\res\raw-hdpi\some_sound_file_that_bothers_me.ogg
rename that apt file to a ".rar"subfix, then un-rar that apk file.
They may be of help to ya.
Look inside that file the
it has the path \AxT9IME\res\raw-hdpi\
keypress_delete.ogg
keypress_return.ogg
keypress_spacebar.ogg
keypress_standard.ogg
Just remove them, rename the rar file back to apk and flash that apk and see that that can do!

I know one way of doing this is to use a different keyboard app but I haven't really found one that works as well as the stock one. Although if anyone can suggest a good one which has T9 keys (e.g. [abc] [efg] etc.) that fits well on the screen I'd like to know; I tried betterkeyboard but it took up too much of the screen I found and the keys were abit small.
Back to topic though, has anyone found a way to just get rid of the annoying language bar that pops up when using the hardware keyboard? I tried unticking the 'default input' option but that seems to screw up the virtual keyboard and eventually came back on anyway.
thanks for any help.
There is currently no 3rd party input method that has taken the Sym/áü button of the mini pro into consideration. I have taken this up and helped the author of Smart Keyboard with this problem, and he has said that it is on his to do list. http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=565 Hopefully it wont be to long before this is fixed. Otherwise I find the mentioned Smart Keyboard the one I am most comfortable with. Should give it a go
just install third party keyboard application and make it as default.
I suggest FlexT9.
guys, just a little problem:
I downloaded the latest version and, after enabling the keyboard settings menu - language and keyboard,
when I open a text message, and I try to change the input method, nothing shows, I have the ability to change keyboard
always appears the original, I tried to reboot to disable keybord smart, to re-enable it, but nothing,
When I click on "integration method" returns to the screen with the original keyboard, not smart .. Why?
something wrong? well, I looked around, and I have not found anyone with my problem ..
tips?
hello, I have resolved, I was wrong in practice once you've enabled the keyboard settings menu, open a new sms, and hold on "type text here" so you can choose the input method!
Ha just found this thanks my boss has a wildfire and didn't like the standard keyboard and me having a Galaxy S I thought oh thats easy lets get him a new one.
I had the same problem I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to change the default keyboard glad you figured it out I was there for ages.
Maybe its just you and me
I'm really liking the Voice to Text (VTT) input that came with the ICS leak, and find that it works pretty well. The problem is that when I change to a different keyboard, the VTT changes. I've tried a couple of different keyboards, and they both seem to have different versions of the VTT.
On Swype beta, I've dug through the settings, but cannot seem to find anywhere to select which VTT system to use.
The only real issue I've got with the stock keyboard is that I would like to shorten the time before the alternate character is selected when long pressing a key.
If anyone has any ideas, or maybe another keyboard that uses the stock ICS VTT I'd appreciate it.
I've tried swiftkeyx, betterkeyboard, swype with no luck.
Another thing about the ICS leak that I've noticed is that you cannot press and hold over text and get that magnifying glass to place your cursor in a particular spot. Any fix for this?
Yeah, I'm replying to my own post...
The way to use the stock Google Voice Input when using an alternate keyboard is to pull down the notification bar when you are in a text input area. You should see a little keyboard icon up there, and when you pull it down, choose "Select Input Method" and choose "Google Voice Input". This only changes it for the time being, and doesn't change it system wide.
Now can anybody answer my other question below?

Is there any way for me to remove this from the notification bar? It seems to me unnecessary
I use the stock rom if that makes any difference
Yeah I find that to be a little annoying as well...
I get around this by making sure I use the back button and exit out of the keyboard completely after using the messaging app, this takes the notification away until I re-use the keyboard for txting, etc.
That I know, I want to remove ir completely... That's what I need help with
I don't think it's possible to get rid of through a settings option as such, but if you really wanted to you could try your hand at decompiling and removing the notification at the coding level (smali & xml, etc)...
Or politely ask a dev to look into it
Ask a dev it is, cause I don't have the slightest notion of android coding... Now, can someone kindly point me in the direction of a dev?
You could edit the status bar image and make it transparent as a temp fix?

If you have root, you can more the stock keyboard from /system/app to /data/app , and move the keyboard you wish to use the other way (/data/app to /system/app).
This changed the default keyboard for me, enabling me to deselect the stock one, thus removing the notification (It doesn't come up if you only have one input method enabled.)
AOKP roms have the option to disable that entirely btw.
Do you all mean the keyboard switcher in the status bar when typing a text?
If so, see the link in my sig...

In AOKP Rom, Settings -> ROM Control -> General UI -> uncheck "Show IME Switcher" -> ???? -> Profit?
Solved!
Try this:
Browse to /data/system/inputmethod
Delete subtypes.xml
Reboot
Now, if you've another input method you want you'll have to open the xml doc and remove entries to the one which keeps popping up (for me it was Google voice input - but luckily I'm still able to use the voice search in Google Now despite deleting subtypes.xml )
Otherwise, this should work. I tried unticking all but one input methods in the settings menu but it never worked. This does.

Remove Select Input Notification HTC
I know this is a old thread put you can remove the notification even if you don't have root. I have HTC to go Settings - Apps- All - Go To Touch Input Click Disable - Then Go to Settings - Language and Keyboard Remove Checkmark Next to Google Voice Typing - Restart Phone No more Select Input Notification. This method should work for any device although the name of the stock keyboard in the first step may be different.
After installing the Omega v.35 on my SGSIII I'm having a trouble with sounds, seems like I can't turn off the sounds for keyboard and there is also some sound when I scroll any list (in contacts or in settings, it's always bipping!) Vibration during clicks is also annoying and also can't turn it off. Please help!
On settings screen I have turned off all sounds in system section what else should I do to get rid of that sound-mess??
Here are my screens for sound section:
I can't see the attached images, but you can disable vibration and/or sound on keyboard by going into language & input settings, choose the settings for your keyboard and uncheck the correponding boxes.

Hi
To get rid of irritating sounds, you could try moving/deleting all the User Interface sound files from \system\media\audio\ui using something like ES File Explorer. That's what I do and I get no unwanted sounds out of my device any more.
You do have to do this each time you flash a new ROM tho.

Thanks, so does that mean that it is a bug of Omega or what? On stock firmware I could easily tun on and off vibration and sounds in settings.
