[Q] Omega v.35, how to turn off sounds? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing the Omega v.35 on my SGSIII I'm having a trouble with sounds, seems like I can't turn off the sounds for keyboard and there is also some sound when I scroll any list (in contacts or in settings, it's always bipping!) Vibration during clicks is also annoying and also can't turn it off. Please help!
On settings screen I have turned off all sounds in system section what else should I do to get rid of that sound-mess??
Here are my screens for sound section:

I can't see the attached images, but you can disable vibration and/or sound on keyboard by going into language & input settings, choose the settings for your keyboard and uncheck the correponding boxes.

Hi
To get rid of irritating sounds, you could try moving/deleting all the User Interface sound files from \system\media\audio\ui using something like ES File Explorer. That's what I do and I get no unwanted sounds out of my device any more.
You do have to do this each time you flash a new ROM tho.

Thanks, so does that mean that it is a bug of Omega or what? On stock firmware I could easily tun on and off vibration and sounds in settings.

[App] Recent Plus - volume control in recent apps dialog for CM7

What is Recent Plus!?
It is a small app in an early state that replaces the "recent apps" dialog that appears when you long-press the home button. It shows the recently opened apps as before but additionally shows a volume slider. See screenshots. Requires CM7.
UPDATE: Recent Plus in Market
Why?
As you all know, the nook color is a wonderful device but it is lacking hardware buttons. A typical and really nice remedy is to install keysmod / Hard-key editor and bind the volume buttons to back and menu. Problem: you can no longer easily change the current volume while in an app, especially when it is running in fullscreen.
It started with this post and I am now moving it here.
Requirements:
* a device running a recent nightly of cyanogenmod 7
Installation:
(0. install the keysmod so you have back/menu instead of the volume buttons)
1. install the apk that is attached to this post, UPDATE: Recent Plus in the Market
2. go to "Settings", "Cyanogenmod Settings", "Input", "long-press home settings": check "Use custom application" and then choose "Select custom application", tap "Applications" (yes, another tap here in that list! This is the first entry), finally select "Recent Plus!"
3. done. Now you can long press home to switch apps and change the volume
TODOs/Problems:
1. Not sure what happens with devices other than the nook and/or different roms
2. The number of recent apps can not be configured yet
Looking forward to your feedback!
History:
v0.7: (July 9, 2011)
color application label by status (white: running, gray: suspended, dark: closed) - can be turned off
fixed a force close bug when switching to apps in certain states
instead of force closing display an error message instead
Recent Plus in the Market
v0.6: (Apr 12 2011)
optional brightness slider (see settings)
v0.5:
crappy looking settings menu
select which volumes you want to control in the settings
v0.4:
fix android compatibility mode messing up the layout
v0.3:
visual stuff (Button background, longer app names)
different button layout in landscape/portrait
more apps
v0.2: initial release
(reserved)
Excellent app. My only problem is I cannot add recent plus as a custom application. I followed all of the steps exactly. Any advice?

I need more info. What does "cannot add as a custom application" mean? Could you follow all steps? Which Rom and which version are you running?
Kudos to you! This is exactly what I need to put everything together and eliminate the need to switch keys and such. Thanks for making an awesome app!
Ok, I figured out why I was only getting a small window that couldn't fit everything... I turned off Compatibility Mode in Spare Parts and now the Recent Plus window is big and works properly.
Does anyone have this working right at the default "on" setting for Compatibility Mode?
Nice idea. Works. Wishing i was on CM now

Worked fine for me. I also notice that there's an option in the settings to "show recent apps title". I unchecked it, but it still shows the title of the recent apps. Maybe you guys can work something out of it. Like having Compatibility Mode and still show the volume slider.
And, thanks.

The are currently no options you can change. The stuff in that settings menu only applies to the default recent app switcher application.
Works great. Landscape mode works well too. Only thing id like to see is it control the complete system volume, not just media. You really have a great handy app. Is this only compatible with cm7 or is there future plans to have it work with other builds.

Well, I can change it to affect all or only some of the different volumes. The thing is that I am not sure what is the best thing to do. The normal volume button is aware of the context and only changes that volume but I am not sure how to do that.
I don't like the idea of adding several sliders on the screen. Would having a settings menu to decide which volumes are affected help? Opinions?

Well, the app itself is independent of the rom, but you need a way to launch it using a hardware button. I am not aware of a way to do this without support in the rom. One might be able to do something like "tap home -> launch recent plus", "double tap home -> go to home", not sure. This is similar to the softkeys behavior...

Personally i would be fine with it doing full system volume, for my usage i dont think i need the ability to control different volume's. a settings option would be best for all around functionality for all users. i would suggest you hide it (press menu in app for it to show up) a settings menu would also give you ability to add features in the future if you choose so. I think there are people out there who would like this screen to do more then it does now. Myself all i want is a volume slider, This is much cleaner then having to use any other apps ive tried.
Thank you again for your hard work. This is going to be a staple apk, on my nook

A button to either pop out a selection menu or even to simply step through the different volume types with multiple presses might work. Tucked away behind the Menu button would make for a cleaner UI, though.
Media volume is the critical one to have by default, though, at least on a phoneless tablet... How often do people really have to change their Notifications volume on the fly? Adding a way to select the other volumes could certainly increase the app's usefulness outside the NC community, as well as to anyone who does constantly adjust the other volumes, though.
An option to adjust ALL volume levels with one slider would be very helpful, for instance when using with headphones -- see below.

Yeah, about that... I was listening to music at a nice comfortable level using headphones, when I received an email... since RecentPlus only adjusted the media volume, the notification sound was deafening and had my ears ringing for a few moments.

Yeah, that was one of the first things I did with CM7 as I love that feature on my phone... and I've got Not, Ring, and Alarm all set to play on speaker -- however -- have you actually tried the "always play on speaker" feature?
I've got two NCs here, and it doesn't work on either one -- most recent: CM7n30.
Can other folks confirm that this feature is working properly?
Edit: Based on some experimentation with Tasker just now, I don't think the NC hardware is actually capable of determining when headphones are plugged in.

[Q] Disable select input method notification

Is there any way for me to remove this from the notification bar? It seems to me unnecessary
I use the stock rom if that makes any difference
Yeah I find that to be a little annoying as well...
I get around this by making sure I use the back button and exit out of the keyboard completely after using the messaging app, this takes the notification away until I re-use the keyboard for txting, etc.
That I know, I want to remove ir completely... That's what I need help with
I don't think it's possible to get rid of through a settings option as such, but if you really wanted to you could try your hand at decompiling and removing the notification at the coding level (smali & xml, etc)...
Or politely ask a dev to look into it
Ask a dev it is, cause I don't have the slightest notion of android coding... Now, can someone kindly point me in the direction of a dev?
You could edit the status bar image and make it transparent as a temp fix?

This changed the default keyboard for me, enabling me to deselect the stock one, thus removing the notification (It doesn't come up if you only have one input method enabled.)
AOKP roms have the option to disable that entirely btw.

In AOKP Rom, Settings -> ROM Control -> General UI -> uncheck "Show IME Switcher" -> ???? -> Profit?
Solved!
Try this:
Browse to /data/system/inputmethod
Delete subtypes.xml
Reboot
Now, if you've another input method you want you'll have to open the xml doc and remove entries to the one which keeps popping up (for me it was Google voice input - but luckily I'm still able to use the voice search in Google Now despite deleting subtypes.xml )
Otherwise, this should work. I tried unticking all but one input methods in the settings menu but it never worked. This does.

I know this is a old thread put you can remove the notification even if you don't have root. I have HTC to go Settings - Apps- All - Go To Touch Input Click Disable - Then Go to Settings - Language and Keyboard Remove Checkmark Next to Google Voice Typing - Restart Phone No more Select Input Notification. This method should work for any device although the name of the stock keyboard in the first step may be different.

For grouping apps I'm using Nova Prime launcher and you can create different launcher tabs for what ever you like.
I believe the camera tone issue is legally motivated, in some places it is illegal to de-activate the camera sound I believe so I think this is why you can't turn it off from the settings, if you flash a custom ROM there is usually an option to turn it off (with a warning) but on stock ROMS usually not.
Hope that helps,
R.

I'm using touchwiz. I found out the option that you can create a folder in the homescreen but I was hoping to group the apps in the menu and not just hide them.
I also rooted my phone yesterday but I couldn't find anything to disable the camera tone. I guess l'm gonna have to install another launcher and see if sorts out.

I haven't (yet) rooted my phone, but I can take "shutter sound" away. You need to tick your volume rocker to minimize system sounds to silent. Then you can take pictures without shutter tone. Just remember put vol back up after.

[BUGS] Zopo Speed 7 Plus Stock ROM ZP952 20150820-222820

Hello,
yesterday I posted some bugs in another thread in reply to a posting aiming the Zopo Speed 7 (without plus). But this is the Zopo Speed 7 Plus forum, so I guess it's a good idea to start a new thread.
After recognizing some bugs with the ROM installed on the phone and doing the OTA-Update I decided to set up the phone completely new with the ROM 20150820-222820, that can be found on zobomobile.
After restarting the phone, some bugs seemed to be fixed:
- Small window view (round clock) in combination with the smart cover seemed to work now
- Ringtones are loud enough (for me, maybe not for other users)
- Widgets still operate after restart
Then I did some settings and after a while the Small window view starts again to misoperate. Sudden fade outs, dead screen, not wake up with Power-Button... After some hours I discovered, that the setting, to set the screen brightness depending on amient light is causing the error. If you switch this option on, closing the smart cover seemed to teel the phone: it's totally dark, switch off screen. Ok, I do not really need this option.
After a couple of reboots the widgets started to keep empty again. Grr... Changing the Launcher did not help.
But a little good news: I started Google Maps Navigation and the screen stayed on several hours. No sudden switch off anymore.
And the GPS fix is now in less than 5 seconds.
Maybe someone can find out, how to fix this annoying bug with the widgets.
Other bugs:
- if you change the default launcher with other one, at reboot the phone not save the settings of new launcher and return at default
- the notification of some apps not worked (Facebook, Whatsapp, Tapatalk, ecc.) unless you starts to the apps the first time
I will update as soon as there are others

For widget bug I found a solution but you must have a root. App which widgets you use you must transfer in the system.
With FX File Explorer (you must first install the root addon) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx easily transfer it any app in the system.
For example I use HD Widget https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cloudtv.hdwidgets&hl , find HD widgets directory, transfer from data -> app directory in the system -> app directory and reboot. After the boot all widgets from HD Widgets app working normally and smoothly. So I did the same for a few programs and all operating normally :good:
I suppose I do the same with Nova Launcher
From:
To:
Some have a problem with a low sound in the speaker when ringing.
The solution is very simple.
With MTK Engineering Mode https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themonsterit.EngineerStarter&hl go to MTK Settings -> Software Testing -> Audio -> LoudSpeaker Mode and under level set to Level 6, SET SET. That's it. Now the ringer is even too loud.
In fact the sound through the speakers is enhanced, music, youtube, etc.

Moving to system/app fixes notification problem
Hi, your widget-solution even fixes the problem with apps using an service in the background to receive notifications. :good:
I know bug with the Zopo Speed 7 plus (I guess the Speed 7 also) is that some Apps do not receive notification events in the background.
On my phone neither Whatsapp nor Threema receive ANY notifications after reboot. You have to open the App and after several seconds the
app start to receive sent messages from others. Even if they where sent hours ago. That is really annoying .
After closing the App it receives messages for a little time and then it seems, the App AND its background service is killed by Android. The
killing-algorithm seems to be set to VERY VERY agressive. That's absolutely unnecessary with 3 GB of ram. On my old HTC One X plus I had
1 GB and al works like a charm.
First I got the autostart control feature of the Zopo Speed 7 Plus in mind, but no settings (Allow all, Allow Whatsapp/Threema, Deny all etc.)
did work.
Then I thought of your solution, to fix the Widget problem by moving the Apps to system/app. And voila - it works. Whatsapp and Threema
are starting after reboot and stay online all the time. Even after several hours.
But: Are Apps moved to system/app still getting updates via the Play Store?!? I could not find out.
Thanks but...
Thanks for your hint, this could be a solution for this annoying bug. But, i got some questions to do so:
- do i need root? F. e., the system/app is read only, so i think i have to root and change the settings?
- direct moving doesn't work because play store apps are not stored as apk-files, so i have to get an apk-file to move from /download to system/app?
Thanks for your reply, Thomas

How to fix MiFavor

If you have any suggestions, add in comments and I'll update the OP. Going to try to keep this list as comprehensive as possible.
Ambient Display: Stock ambient display sucks, so I don't miss it here. But would be nice to get something similar to Moto's active notifications to make use of the amoled panel.
Smart power-save: What does it really do? Is it limiting CPU speed? Is it using a more conservative governor? I can't tell any difference (performance or battery) when it's on vs off.
Voiceprint: Completely useless. I bet not a single person uses this.
MyVoice: This would be MUCH more useful if you could trigger it without touching phone while screen was off. In its current form, the time it takes to unlock my phone, hold back, say my command, and wait for it to respond, I'd be better off just doing whatever I wanted it to do. Screen off voice commands are natively supported by Qualcomm, even when the phone is in Doze.
Gesture & Motion:
-Double tap to wake is very slow and doesn't work when phone has gone into Doze.
It also works in your pocket because there is no proximity sensor check. There needs to be.
-Shake flashlight: You really need to shake your phone violently now. So violently in fact that you will throw your phone more often than not trying to turn your flashlight on.
-Give us some kind of camera gesture when phone is off. Double tap power, hold volume button, shake phone, whatever.
Navigation Keys: Capacitive buttons should be optional. I like being able to swap which side the back button is on, but we should be able to customize long-presses.
Battery Percentage: Should be displayed inside the battery icon or replace it. Uses up a ton of space on the status bar.
Workaround: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
Holster Mode: Completely useless. This is a phone, not a fitbit. Keeping the phone screen on all the time to use as a pedometer will destroy your battery life.
Cast Screen: Why is this not a toggle in the notification shade? Why do I need to dig into the display settings to do this? You have a dual sim quick-toggle, but not a cast screen quick-toggle?
Sound: I really like that when I mute ringer, media volume also mutes. But when you unmute, it goes back to whatever it was at before, which can be a lot louder than you think. Android should tie all volumes except alarm volume together, but if nothing else, let us tie ringer and notification volume together.
Mute Schedule: Why did they remove stock 6.0's timed do not disturb functionality?
Charging Sounds: Should be able to turn off.
Apps: To disable stock calendar, clock, gallery, mifavor launcher, my voice, stock music app, and stock video app, you have to open "stock android launcher" and drag icons from the app drawer to top of screen. Why can't we just disable these same apps from settings --> apps?
Storage: Let us use adaptable storage!
Connect to PC: Does the "Install driver" option do anything? Have not found a computer that does not install driver automatically when MTP selected.
Lockscreen: Get rid of the bell!
Notification Shade: Editing toggles is nice, but let us add and remove toggles. Many of us don't use a 2nd sim card, so having 3 related toggles is a waste of space.
System UI Tuner: Holding the gear icon in the notification shade causes it to spin and settings to open, but System UI Tuner never appears in settings. If you're not going to let us use System UI Tuner, get rid of the toggle.
Stock Weather widget: I really like the widget, but does not scale when resizing. Also, does not open Google clock if stock clock is disabled when clicked. Oh well, back to Chronus.
Toolkit: Not all of these are very useful, but definitely interesting. If you want to create a home screen shortcut to any of these, open the toolkit app and long press whatever icon you like.
Recent Apps: clear button shouldn't cover up 50% of the currently open app. This will be solved in nougat, so probably not worth fixing, but if you're going to put a clear all button on this screen, but it near the top left or top right so it's harder to accidentally press.
Status Bar Color: When status bar turns dark, icons stay dark so you can't read anything. These should turn white.
Speaker Phone: If on speaker phone and screen times out, other person can no longer hear you until you toggle speakerphone off then back on, which means constantly touching your phone's screen so it doesn't time out.
Phone call Proximity Sensor: Doesn't work. If you turn the screen off and hold the phone up to your head, if the proximity sensor sees light, which it will because it's not centered, it will turn the screen BACK ON. With this and the bug above together, phone calls are a huge pain in the ass.
Dolby Atmos: This resets EQ settings very often. I can't figure out what causes it to reset to default, but the settings just never seem to stick.
Anyone have any more info on this?
Write Protection on Rooted phones: Rooted and still can't get adaway or titanium backup to work? Turns out there's an extra layer of write protection here that's not found in other phones. Why do we need this? Luckily, there's a simple fix: Plug phone into computer, load up adb, type "adb reboot disemmcwp" (source:http://androidforums.com/threads/zte-write-protection-for-zmax-and-other-zte-phones.1040331/)
Disable stock apps: in B20, you could disable several stock apps that did not allow you to disable them in settings --> apps by opening"stock Android" launcher and dragging app drawer icons to disable. Seems that has been removed in B27, so now we have no way to disable redundant clocks and calendars to name a few.
Any more suggestions? Anyone know any fixes for the above?

Good summary. I can't believe someone actually thought the notification bell (and subsequently, the inability to turn it off) was a good idea.
I'm going to try to list workarounds here as well, so if someone can come up with good fixes for any of this stuff without waiting for ZTE, please share!
Updated with some new findings and ideas.

But Android already has a perfectly working system to hide notification content before unlocking the device. You can even pick which apps to show and which ones to hide. And, most importantly, it's OPTIONAL. And it's actually much better at protecting your privacy. With the bell, all the content is visible without actually unlocking your phone.. it just makes it more inconvenient to access.

Mine does the same (also on mute all the time). Apparently if you have volume on, it makes noise. Either way, should be able to toggle the "charging notification".
Added speaker phone and proximity bugs.

Hope speakerphone gets fixed soon. Use it a lot. We need to get all this great info to ZTE. Thanks for great thread.

"Wake on Plug" toggle (waking up screen on plug or unplug). I have this option on a Nexus tablet and OnePlus One phone, but it does not exist in MiFavor.

Apps: To disable stock calendar, clock, gallery, mifavor launcher, my voice, stock music app, and stock video app, you have to open "stock android launcher" and drag icons from the app drawer to top of screen. Why can't we just disable these same apps from settings --> apps?

What do you mean with stock android launcher? Where do i find it? I cant deactive this bloat without root
The phone, at least in US version, comes with a launcher called "Stock Android Launcher", but it is just a differently themed MiFlavor launcher, not a real stock android launcher. Confusing, but that is what is there.

Settings > Themes and Wallpapers.
On the US model, there's a theme titled "Stock Android". When using that theme, you can open up the app drawer, press and hold on an app, and on the top of the screen there's a "Disable" option. This is different from the standard Settings > Apps > selecting an app > Disable (which is greyed out for most of the stock apps).

Sadly, no such option on G Version -.- only 5 slightly different ZTE themes.
Also no Myvoice in g version. WTF?!
@xxBrun0xx: I saw you linked to this list in a ZTE forum, but I think it would be better if it had its own thread as well.
In addition to "wake on plug" toggle I mentioned a few posts above, I would like to see an option to remap capacitative buttons to whatever user wants, right now they can only be "flipped", but ability to have custom functions (on both short and long press) would be helpful. I personally, would like to use one of the button for menu rather than for recent apps.
