Turtle Photoframe huge battery user - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since a few days I use Turtle Photoframe as a widget on my screen, see my screenshots:
Now since today I noticed my battery ran out very quick, it dropped 68% in less than 4 hours!!! Look at this:
It must be a bug or something, I really can't believe this is such a battery killer.
Does anyone use this and have the same problem? I really like the thin black border, is there any other widget who shows my pictures the same???
Cheers,
Arnold

[Q] Battery drain, baseband and home lag: is that the real S3?!

Hi all,
first of all, I'm not a fan boy of any kind. I've been using so many android devices in the last years, I'm more of a tech fanboy then a <brand>fanboy.
Given that, I'm not soddisfied at all with S3: reading and viewing so many preview and review of this phone, I though it will last more than one day and that it would be fast as hell and lag free, at least, this is what everyone is saying in every damned review I saw/read.
I had in these passed 6 month: gaalxy s2, sensation, galaxy note, sensation xe, galacy nexus and right now htc one x and sgs3.
Well, the sgs3 is not so much better as everyone is saying, in particular, is not better at all of htc one x as every comparison review is stating.
What's up? Is that just me or what? My sgs3, with the same operator's sim is lasting less than htc one x and it's not fluid at all, at least while scrolling through homes!!! Of course, even the one x has some microlagging while scrolling through homes, but I though sgs3 would have no lag at all.
Does anyone else see it?
What it's really strange dealing with battery drain, is that the phone drains a lot even while in standby. The first voice in my battery stats is phone cellular stanby? How can it drain more than the screen???
Any "smart" answer is very appreciated, but please, avoid phrases like "you got a lemon, change it": what I'm saying it's not that it lasts me4 hours, I can get through the whole day with sgs3. But it does not last more than one day as everyone is stating! I mean: I get 17h unplugged with 3h screen on, it's on par with all the other phones I had...but not with Galaxy note or One X, they really last more than one day.
Thanks
Can you make a video of the lag so that we can see what you're experiencing? because I and most people have a smooth interface so maybe an app or your setup is causing problems?
Regarding the battery life, I got something like 22 hours with 5 hours screen-on (screenshot in battery life thread in general) and that was with pretty heavy usage - games, videos, web browsing. But you're right there's definitely high cell standby drain in the current firmware. Hopefully it can be fixed. Also, there's an led notification app, can't remember what it's called, that has a bug that drains the battery on the gs3. See the battery life thread in general for more info.

Hi, first of all, thanks for your answer. I'm not talking about huge lag, but the tipical microlag that you get while scrolling through homes in every android phone up to nowdays. I got some microlag while scrolling on HTC One X too.
If I can I will upload something tonite.
Your battery stats is great: 22h with 5h screen-on is a very good result. Do you use data connection always on? How many charge cycle did you perform?
Anyway, no, I'm not using light flow as my phone is still on stock rom, no mod yet!
TIA
Yeh wifi and 3g always on. here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26864539#post26864539
But even with the good results I'm getting, I don't think the phone would last 2 days because of the high cell standby drain. Its definitely a problem that needs to be fixed.
Regarding the lag. I get UI framerate drops in the following:
- Task switcher if there are a lot of apps open
- Browser bookmarks with thumbnails enabled
But they're the only areas that I've noticed have noticeable fps drops. Another annoying thing is for example the ABCDEF... list to the right of the contacts list, it seems to take a second or so to become responsive when you start dragging your finger down it, kinda spoils the experience.
Also, touchwiz launcher seems to need to reload when RAM gets used up.
So yeh it's not perfect but overall it's lightning fast and battery life is superb. Will be even better with software updates
I'm getting 1day 5 hours with 7 hours screen on and minimal standby drain.
The only lag I experience is 'sticky' vertical scrolling.
I did drop touchwiz in favor of go launcher but that was only because I found it too boring.
So far this phone has more than lived up to my expectations.

Do you mean you have no lag at all (neither a micro lag) when scrolling through homes?
Yes, noticed the launcher reload sometimes.
I don't know, maybe it's just me 'cause I had so many phones and in particular an HTC One X to compare it with? I don't find it any faster than one x but in web browser, nor it lasts more than one x! :/

Wondeful battery stats. Lucky you or unlucky me?
Do you use 3G data always on?
Just curious: which mobile phone do you have before buying the s3?!?!

No noticeable fps drops when swiping through the home screens no. I only have widgets on 4 pages though so will try adding more and see if that makes a difference.
I also owned a hox (tegra3) but returned it because of the bad battery life and laggy browsing (tried lots of 3rd party browsers too) and ui fps drops, overheating and screen flex.
I had a hd2 and had managed to get pretty good battery life on it as well.
I find a lot of little things add up.
I let very few apps sync.
I have black or dark backgrounds wherever possible.
I don't use haptic feedback.
I only use gsm unless I'm actually doing something that requires more speed but I do have data always on.
I switch WiFi and GPS off when not in use.
I use auto brightness.
I use betterbatterystats and battery monitor pro to keep an eye on things.
I avoid battery savings apps like the plague as they invariably increase battery drain.
Hope some of these help.

That's funny, I have a tegra 3 One X and I have none of the problem you had, or, at least:
- first one x rom was quite laggy, now it's much better, on par with s3, but always with some microlag
- no overheat but when playing heavy games like shadowgun, while s3 gets really hot even when just surfing
- very decent battery life, better than s3
- no screen flex
- no laggy browser until flash player is on demand
Oh well, maybe my One X is an S3 and the S3 is a One X!?!?
Joking apart, you can notice microlag when you scroll very fast through homes both on One X and on S3. I have 5 pages and widget on every page on both phones.

I have several app syncing (4 gmail account, 1 yahoo account and 1 exchange account, everyone along with its calendar part), twitter every 30 min, beautiful widget weather every 1h. GPS always on, 3g data always on. Auto brightness on all the time.
I see, using gsm only, no gps and few apps syncing really extend battery life, but I want to be able to fully use my phone. Moreover, both One X and S3 have the same apps, the same account synced and almost the same widgets (sense one apart), but One X last longer!

For those who are rooted, just go to /system/build.prop and change the dalvik size from 256m to 128m
Seems that it helps to solve this issue...

Do you only have 5 pages? Why have I got 7?
Anyway I placed widgets on all 7 pages and swiped really fast and have no lag or fps drops whatsoever. Maybe a particular widget is causing the problem?
I found using the live wallpapers caused my home screen to reload and caused lag. Since changing to a static wallpaper everything has been nice and quick with no re-drawing
Sorry, double post!

Of course, I've already tried everything I could in order to lessen the lag: I'm using a static wallpaper, but micro lag is there. Maybe it's ust a matter of defying what microlag is: if I do scroll fast through home pages I have some microlag, I can see the animation is not completely fluid.
I have the following widgets: beautiful widget clock 4x1 (but I tried even with samsung standard plain digital clock), google search widget, music widget, stock ics calendar widget, plume (but I even tried with the static official twitter widget), photo gallery widget, weather pro widget.

One more thing: using SpyCPU I saw that sgs3 it's for 70% of its total standby time in deep sleep, while one x it's for 80%. Moreover, one x has more states with low CPU freq (100mhz, 70, 50) while sgs3 has 400mhz as lower freq used state, 300 and 200 are unused. :/
I guess that the Tegra companion core going so low in frequencies...

serious problem with battery life.

Hi guys, I got my new LG P769 at Bestbuy two days ago and I think my phone have a huge problem with battery life.
As you can see a picture, it discharges so fast. There are three cliffs of its batter life in the picture, two big cliffs and small one.
It seems to be abnormal. further, battery was 75% when i went to bed last night but i noticed it went down by 35% while i was sleeping.
of course i didn't use it at all for 6 hours. The second cliff was occurred at that time,
Do I need to go to complain? Please let me know how to deal with that. Thank you!

Hello Mate,
I too felt same feeling when I purchased this phone first.
But later I realised few things.
1) When you have inactive card with no signal, It keeps on searching for the network and drains a lot
2) The DISPLAY is by default at 100% and if you take it to 50% that is sufficient for indoor use, You save A LOT battery.
Now when I take the display to 100% it feels too much for me. When you are outdoor, you can raise it to readable level.
3) Keep on cleaning tasks and running apps. They DO EAT power even when you are not using the phone.
4) Same applies to the widgets. I really could not find personal implication of Weather widget that have storming animations and lightening data usage. (I am not a pilot nor sailor. No pun intended)
5) When your battery is new, you have to charge it to 100% at one go and use it till it discharges completely before you charge it for the next time. I read its called Conditioning of the battery. means telling it its limit of upper and lower value. This helps long lasting battery life.
6) last but not list and common. When Not in use keep WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS turned off.
They are hardware on our fone and demand their share of power. If you are too wary you can disable the autorotation also, that means one more sensor off and boon to battery. I dont turn it off. I need it a lot and often.
Some Few Tips I did more
1 Disable the Vibration
Vibration = mechanical Motor = Horse Power to eat your battery grass
2 Keep a dark wallpaper.
Light = Power to Light White bulbs on screen
Remember you are running a Dual core 4+Inches beast so you can not expect battery specs like simple fones. You can only smartify it to last longer through the day.

False information. This device does not have an OLED screen so the pixel color has no effect on battery life.

[Q] Battery life + Screen problem

Hello!
I've had my HTC EVO 3D for 16 months. Everything is stock . 1 Week ago my battery begun to drain awfully fast, up to 2%/minute at lowest brightness. Charging the battery with screen on keeps the battery at the same % or sometimes it goes slowly down. I tried to factory reset the phone (thought there was an app eating my battery) but it didn't help. Everything excluding mobile network is turned off. "what has been using the battery" tells me:
Screen: 78%
Cell standby: 12%
Phone idle: 10%
Is it time for a new battery or?
Question 2:
I've heard about many screen problems with the EVO 3D. My bottom part of the screen doesnt work (buttons does). I tried the draw test and it's impossible to touch the bottom of the screen. Anyone got this problem?
i had a similar problem. my battery drained WAAAY fast. only lasts about an hour on use, and 4 hours on standby. drain rate equal to yours as well. you say your EVO is 16 months, mine is 8. maybe my problem was the same as yours but half (lol). my screen was non responsive on the bottom at times as well. i also had this little dark spot on the screen. like a smudge right in the middle. it didnt affect anything but it was bothersome to look at. i got similar battery usage, but what the phone doesnt tell you is the truth about the radios. i live in a place with poor signal. and just recently i discovered that the worse the signal is, the more the battery will drain. because the 3G or 4G radio has to stay on for longer to retrieve data, which eats the battery in a flash. in your case it could be out of plain usage. i dont know. anyways. i checked the battery to realize it had a bump. like a little swollen. i also realized that with the battery cover off the battery kinda sticked out a little, unlike when i got it. realized as well that with the cap off the smudge on the screen disappeared, and the touch interface was not giving me trouble. then i arrived to the conclusion that poor battery life was due to poor reception, and the screen problems were caused by my battery applying pressure to the display from the inside. i bough a pair of replacement batteries from Anker, and i dont have any problems. the battery life is a little longer as well.
maybe that could not be the case with you, but check your battery just in case. and also try to run your phone for a while on airplane mode, and if you see a great battery life increase like i did, then its the reception. if not, the battery either went bad, or you have a battery vampire app lurking around. and if that is the case, try the greenify app (root required) so you can hibernate all apps while you dont use them, and eliminate their background process. and if after that you dont see any battery increase, or you notice your battery being a little swollen like mine was (if you dont see it swollen try putting it on a flat surface, and see if its laying flat), then yes, its time for a new one. it cant hurt getting a new one, using the same battery for 16 months should have decreased the battery's performance anyways. but note that if the battery life problem is due to network connectivity, a new battery will only help a little.
hope i helped!

Possible to have always on lockscreen to show time like Nokia Lumais

Somehow Nokia Lumias are managing to have an always on screen using plain ol LCD and not OLED tech... apparently the battery drain is minimal something like 1% a day.... the author reckons that it's something to do with the screen brightness being really reduced or something...
Is this possible to implement with the Truesmart because this would really be a killer feature!!!
http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/18191_Nokia_works_a_LCD_miracle-Glan.php
That is pretty damn cool
The nearest i could find was clock view, this allows you just to show the time with a mainly black screen and with the brightness turned right down...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kimscom.clockview
Im going to see how much of a drain it is, but the backlight is still on so prolly plenty; Thing is on a lumia the battery is gonna be pretty bad compared to a smartwatch so a days worth of battery is good for a phone but terrible for a watch..

Dissatisfied with battery life.

Why does LG think it's ok to ship a watch with a 12 hour battery life, with minimal use. Just setting up the watch took %40 battery
Without sacrificing screen brightness is there anything to be done?? Is there any sort of root + cpu app we can lower CPU speed with??
Did you uncheck always on screen? Only option I have off and notice decent battery life for the entire day.
Mine goes for 16 hours once completely setup. If you start downloading and setting up this will surely tax the battery on any watch. The 240MAH doesn't help, but once setup it should be fine afterwards.
I had the LG G Watch R (w/ 420MAH) prior and setting up took a good deal of the battery but at EOD was at 65%, while the Style is at 40%.....understandable given the size of the battery.
I found mine was going dead by mid afternoon with little use.
I found turning auto screen brightness off and just leaving it on 4 helps. Also think after a couple of weeks use it's got better anyway. Usually on about 40-50% by the time I leave work.
Main problem I have is the little dial on the side is in a crop place, so my hand keeps pressing it an making assistant listen, eating up battery.
Really wish there was a screen rotation option so I could wear the watch with the dial on the opposite side.
Oh well!
I would like to see more options for ambient mode. I think the brightness is too high. I've only found one watchface that lets you control the color in ambient mode. It's called "line". I changed the ambient color to just red and decreased the opacity of the lines and complications. I've been off the charger for about an hour, received a few notifications and I'm still @ 99%. Might be a fluke, but I'm sure using a single color uses less battery than using white, which is all 3 colors combined.
This is my third smartwatch in 2 weeks. I've downgraded twice because others are just too bulky. I'm sure there's a solution out there. I hope battery life gets better in time with updates. I hate this range anxiety.
I just bought one and it is still too early to tell but battery life is fine for me. If I disable Bluetooth (which I know defeats the purpose of it) and WiFi with no ambient, it lasted me about 2 1/2 days (but I do turn it off at night since I have no need to keep it on while I sleep). If I keep Bluetooth on, no WiFi, and no ambient, it lasts the entire day (13 or 14 hours) with about 40% left. I have to do more testing (especially with ambient). You don't want the watch face on all the time anyway because it will cause screen burn-in. Some of the watch face apps allow you to use an ambient where it is usually black and white with less information showing.
Hello. Can anyone help with a battery model? Need to search for a replacement one but there is no info at the internet about its battery nor where to buy it....

Same here.
I looked everywhere. My battery is dead, it drops from 100% to around 30% as I disconnect it from the charger.
Even if we find the battery, the replacement looks hard. I was hoping to just get the Pixel Watch but I guess that's not going to happen.
Hi guys. Today I made a short video with opening of this device.
Enjoy.
