Full SD Backup with app2sd on Windows - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi all, how can I backup (and restore) app2sd data in ext2 partition with windows o directly on the phone?
If i restore a backup of my rom with xRecovery and i change sdcard i lost app2sd data...

Possible with Paragon Software I think.

On your phone, you can use Titanium Backup which will backup all your apps from the EXT partition to a folder on your FAT partition on your SD Card. You can restore them too!
(You can then view them in Windows).
If you want to see the apps again on a rom without App2SD then all you need to do is to re-install App2SD.
All your programs will appear again as they are not deleted when you change ROMs, the ROM just doesn't know how to see them!
I'm not sure how to do it directly with a PC?!

Ok,
i didn't find an ext explorer for windows working ... I will do it with Titanium

That's because the ext cant be explored like any other partition, files can't be understood like we understand them in FAT and NTSC. If you don't care about the saved data, you can just backup them all by copying all the apks in /data/app with root explorer.

[Q] SD Card erasing?

Will anything bad happen if I backup my SDCards (internal and external) to my computer and erase everything but the Titanium Backup folder and install a new rom?
Will I run into any complications with the new rom install? I am going from Stock to Axura 2.25.9?
Most likely yes because some apps have folders and if you delete them then they MIGHT not work properly.
I've never run into an issue formatting my internal and external sd completely. Backup all your files you want to keep to your pc. Including your titanium folder. Format your storage through your phone. Flash the rom of your choice. Restore your files to your phone, including the titanium folder. Titanium will still see the folder and you will be able to restore the previously backed up apps. If those restored apps had data folders on your sd, the apps will rebuild the folders they require when you launch them.

i think xRecovery backups system and data folders. For apps in sdcard you need Titanium backup or myBackup root ... IMHO

Will the SD card get effected if I restore with xRec

If I recover with xRec, will I loose pix and other things on SD card?
I have some apps/games on the SD card but I'm more worried about pix and other data files
Short answer: no. However, some apps will remove their data/will refuse to read from sd (Like Tap Tap Revenge 4) when reinstalled, so remember to restore the app's data/data partition to ensure that they work properly.
How do I do that?
I had zedge and copied the folder to my computer and after formatting sdcard and re-installing everything, I put that folder back but it's not recognized. I guess zedge had a way to detect backups but now it doesn't.
As long as my pix/songs are safe, I'm ok to flash/restore I guess.

Try using titanium backup (backup root if you're rooted) to restore your app/data after restoring using xrec. Don't restore data using xrec. only use it to restore full rom backup.
i have backed up the apps i would like to with titanium back up..
most of my apps and their titanum backups are on my sd card..
i want to format my sd card but im worried about losing my pics, apps (possibly titanium itself) and maybe xrecovery..
pics and other files are easy to backup.. (simply to a computer)
but is there a quick and safe way to format sd card without losing xrecovery and app backups that i previously backed up with titanium?

Copy everything you need from the card.
A format will always wipe the card clean.
Xrecovery is stored in the phones NAND.. and not on the SD.
Backups made in Xrecovery are stored on the SD.

[Q] Using sd-ext to keep apps

Hello,
I would like to be able to use the sd-ext partition as a way to store my apps and if possible the config file of them (like config of an app, game saves, ...).
So, I will be able to install a new rom and use directly all my apps which are still on the sd-ext.
And yes, I known that a backup program can do that but it's far to be as good as what I'm looking for.
Apps can be installed on sd-ext using A2SD Script.
If you want to install a new rom without deleting the installed app, then don't wipe (or factory reset).
But most of rom required wipe during installation.
Link2sd is very good app and I find it better than app2sd because it allows widgets to still be used, (Which i beleive cannot be done with app2sd?)
Free download from play store.
You need to partition your sd card though.
Follow this guide to do it, its very easy and gives all the instructions to work.
I have been following this since my x10 days and now onto my neo phone. I cant live without it.
@svprm: Make a wipe is not a problem as I can save my apps by connecting directly my sd-card to my computer. So if a wipe is really necessary: backup data from sd-ext, make a wipe threw CWM, restore sd-ext, install rom
@gregbradley: I already install Link2SD but it creates symbolic links into the /data folder so if you make a wipe of this folder, you lost those symbolic links. So Link2SD could be perfect if it was possible to save/restore those symbolic links!
I think it will work as you said
1.Install the rom as per insutruction.
2.Install the A2SD script.
3.Restore the sd-ext from pc if you wiped.
4.Boot it.
Try it.
Yes sorry, my fault, I thought that you spoke about Link2SD.
So yes, with A2SD it seems to be possible (which require A2SDGui), in this case all the /data/app is moved to the SD as I understand. This will also save the "config files" (like config of an app, game saves, ...) ?
Yes,Apps and Config can be saved on sd-ext by A2SD++
See this thread for more info:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Wow, that's a very interesting thread, I was looking after this for a while. Thanks!
But I'v one more question if I can, where are store the "config files"? Into the /data/data folder?
Because there is so many possibilities with those scripts, it's not so easy to choose. Saving "config files" + apps seems to be the better way as dalvik cache could be regenerated quickly.
Config files are saved on /data/data folder.
Ok, so I've the choice between A2SD++ and INT2EXT.
A2SD++ seems to moves some sub-folders from /data while INT2EXT mount the sd-card on /data. So with A2SD++ there is still some sub-folders on the internal memory.
Have you test both of these solutions, which one is the best for you and why? Sorry to ask so many questions, it's the last one promise.
I think it depends on your sdcard speed(class).
INT2EXT working well for me.

Isnt that why we use titanium backup?
So when we do a wipe we can restore all apps+data from the backup (Stored on the SD card) and have link2sd automatically relink them.
That always works for me.....I think you are finding problems where thay dont exist.
Yes, it will works like this. But for me using a backup tool is not interesting. The goal of storing data to the sd-card is to don't have to make any backup.
So my choice gone for the CronMod script presented by svprm but thanks for your comment, it's always good to have different point of view.
I found another great application to use with the CronMod script: Apps2ROM (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lrenault.tools.apps2rom).
Because external sd-card could never be as fast as internal memory, it's interesting to keep the possibility to move easily an application to the internal memory. And at the same time, to avoid duplicate application after an update.

True,
But if you change roms you should not use the data froma previous rom, so changing from stock to CM to MIUI etc needs you to use a backup and restore tha apps without data

I just tried with INT2EXT and it's slow...too slow.
Maybe that you've OC your Neo and have a very fast sd-card. I've a class 10 sd-card of 32Go, which should not be so bad.

[Q] Does Nandroid backup the internal storage??

Hi guys,
I own a S3 and for one year I just dealed with the stock ROM, just root access. Saturday I decided to enter the modding world but I knew it would bring a lot of troubles...
I did a nandroid backup of 4.1.2 stock FW just before the flashing, but no way it restores, after an hour of processing it shows - Error restoring data! - it boots but it's a total mess. I even restored the original stock FW with triangle away, wipe all and double ODIN flash and then reflashing the clockworkmod recovery to restore the backup again but nope, won't work.
Luckily I did a full backup with Titanium backup prior, the real trouble is with ES file explorer: I did copy/paste of the entire internal storage to the external microsd but for some reasons it stopped at "D", "Downloads" folder... I lost everything else and I realized this only AFTER wiping and flashing, of course...
I'm trying to recover the files with Hexamob, hope this will work....
I have this two questions:
Does Nandroid work only with backup < 2.5 Gb? Mine is 4.5 Gb...
Does Nandroid backup the internal storage, too??
Thank you all guys

If I am not wrong, Nandroid does a backup of your phone (system, data etc) so that when you restore it, you got anything like it was. It does not backup the SD card though. In addition backups of over 2.5gb should work.
/data is the internal memory? Or is it /sdcard?

its all the internal memory.
/system
/data
/cache
...are all on the emmc memory and are backed up in a nandroid backup.
/sdcard is actually a mount of /data/media, however this is ignored by nandroid backups for obvious reasons

So /sdcard is the external microsd? And /data is the internal memory (I mean what you see when connecting phone to PC, Internal memory and external sd)?
If nandroid backed up internal memory would be great, may be there's some way to recover datas from backup files (unyaffs won't work, Titanium Backup just shows apps and their datas).
I'll do some further research.
no. sdcard is the internal SD, which is just a link to /data/media. to backup it, use copy and paste. no, it's not possible to recover internal SD data from a nandroid backup
Be aware that Nandroid does not backup your EFS .
jje
it can. depends on the recovery
Yep i know problem is that some think any recovery backs up EFS .
Wrong recovery no EFS backup .
We desperately need some stickied faqs and guides on this forum .

/sdcard is the "internal sd"
/extSdCard is the "external sd"
/data is something different that just so happens to be the home of /sdcard
As I feared, no internal storage backup in Nandroid. But what makes me more angry is that s****y ES file explorer so crappy it can't even perform a simple task like copy-paste. If that worked I wouldn't have lost anything. :crying:
Not to mention the useless nandroid... doesn't work either.
However I did manually backed up the EFS folder, but I don't really think it matters in this case.
If your /sdcard was 90% full, where would the nandroid go? External obviously? But recovery devs cannot assume that everyone has an external sd card with enough free space to store a 15 GB backup.

Just clarifying
Hey guys, this is my first ever post on xda!
Just to clarify, a nandroid backup will only backup device root files, and not the (internal) sdcard, nor the extsdcard files, from my understanding of this thread. So to do a complete backup of ALL phone data, I should perform the nandroid backup to extsdcard, and then simply copy (internal)sdcard and extsdcard to my computer for safe keeping?
Thank you!
