Sorry buddy. Not possible as you neet to get into the system which is only possible with root
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

You can get into the system with astro
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

do you have r/w access to the system folder and its contents or r/o access?
Stock uses .qmg files for animation so you couldn't just add a bootanimation.zip

Sorry but I have no idea what r/w or r/o is. Haha

This is all really confusing
I saw the Java download so I decided to use it.. I need to mount the system rw so I can copy it to the system folder I accidently mounted / rw with remount and then copied jdep to lib and app and this is what happened.. I tried to remount / ro but it wouldn't let me.. those pictures and everything is root root besides those items and mnt/ sdcard which sdcard is root system
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Everything is drwxd--xd--x root root in the dev and sys folders

[BOOT ANIMATION] Red or Blue HUD Bootscreens

Here's a bootscreen I ported from one of the droids, forget which.
Looks good on the Atrix.
I'll have a new red theme out sometime in the next few days too.
Enjoy.

No you must rename bootanimation.zip and place in system/media and delete the old one

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I really like this boot animation and want it on my 4.5.91.
Will it work with the OTA gingerbread? What are the installation instructions? Thanks!
p.s. also the download links are dead! could someone re-upload if this works with 4.5.91?

Sorry, ill reupload with the desc file to use the sound
Instructions:
Unrar both files
Replace the desc.txt file in the original bootanimation.zip with the one included in the rar
put the Powerup.ogg file in /system/media via root explorer
I think that made it worse lol. I got nothing now..blank screen to phone comes on

Take the original bootanimation.zip (not the one you have now, get a clean one), and use winrar and set the storage type to "storing" or "stored" (I forget which it is) when you copy over the desc.txt...

Pushing an apk.tho root explorer

What are the steps to push apk tho root explorer? I have a wiget picker apk.if I put it in my system / apps what happens to the old wiget picker? Or do I replace the old one with the new apk?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App

So take the old one move it to another folder and paste the new one in system / apps then that's it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
By push it u mean just move it rite? Or copy and paste?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Don't get wrapped up on terminology. Push just means to place or paste in the system/app folder. Just a fancier way to say it.
Thanks still new to all this

Just installed it with apk installer works perfect
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
This is makin its way into all new releases, and thats awesome cuz its such a great feature. Its really a behind the scenes sorta thing. Root explorer is your friend and push/pullin files is really simple just be careful if pullin out of /system, as noted make backups of any originals just in case. And always remember to have a nandroid of ur current firmware.

Edward Cullen, no offense but that was a n00b statement. If he installed it by himself it cannot be a system application. Also, the file of any app (even user app) is available in /data/app
AND, rooted or not, the app Explorer by Speed Software allows you access to those system files. Only difference is that you cannot write, but you can find the file and COPY (not move) to /sdcard.

Mounting question

Ok my smart android users..... when u go into root expolorer is your system supposed to be mounted as r/o or r/w? sorry im a noob
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure it's r/o by default to keep you from accidentally messing with it. If you know what you're doing, you can switch it to r/w to make changes.
