Mounting question - AT&T LG Optimus G

Ok my smart android users..... when u go into root expolorer is your system supposed to be mounted as r/o or r/w? sorry im a noob
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app

I'm pretty sure it's r/o by default to keep you from accidentally messing with it. If you know what you're doing, you can switch it to r/w to make changes.

Change boot animation non root

Hey guys just wondering how I would do this wiout being rooted or with a custom rom and if so would you post some good ones? Thanks

Sorry buddy. Not possible as you neet to get into the system which is only possible with root
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You can get into the system with astro
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
do you have r/w access to the system folder and its contents or r/o access?
Stock uses .qmg files for animation so you couldn't just add a bootanimation.zip
Sorry but I have no idea what r/w or r/o is. Haha

This is all really confusing
I saw the Java download so I decided to use it.. I need to mount the system rw so I can copy it to the system folder I accidently mounted / rw with remount and then copied jdep to lib and app and this is what happened.. I tried to remount / ro but it wouldn't let me.. those pictures and everything is root root besides those items and mnt/ sdcard which sdcard is root system
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Everything is drwxd--xd--x root root in the dev and sys folders

Internal SD card problems won't be picked up!

OK so basically I went from gingebread to jellybean by going to ICS in between. Whilst on ICS I noticed that the internal SD card wouldn't mount and in recovery it showed all of the file folders that there should have been but nothing in them. Now I'm on jellybean its the same. Is there any way to get it back to normal without going to stock?

check in file explorers for EMMC that will be your ext sd, if it shows up that way, look for an app on xda called RemountSD that will make your ext sd be shown as ext sd instead of emmc

I just get this.
OK what's happened is that the two files that I put on the external SD card are in download and nothing is in the external SD card file. I just need my internals back.

Update: I can't take a screenshot of notifications but that other screenshot I took, in notifications under the screenshot it says SD card is currently in use and shows a USB symbol although my phone is charging from a wall socket.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Try...from that screen press favourites, hopefully your get this (screenshot)
then press the phone icon and hopefully your get (2nd screenshot)
from there hopefully your find all your stored ext sd files in the emmc folder. If that is the case the i would recommend finding the RemountSD apk on xda, it saves alot of confusion finding your files

I just get this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
from there press the phone icon and you should get my 2nd screenshot appear (root folders etc) the emmc folder should be in there aswell
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
This is what I get. There was 2 lines more but thy were nothing.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Only thing i can suggest is if its nothing is in your extSD folder in that area then as a long shot, try fi ding and using the RemountSD app, do a search on the xda forum, it should be easy to find, once its installed tell it to remount and hopefully that will solve your problem and everything will be found on ext sd
this is the link to the app, hope that helps

Thanks for the help but the apo didn't do anything because I think the locations are wrong. I'll try reverting back to stock gingerbread or ICS later...

No probs, hopefully someone will be able to help out more, i've not used any JB roms yet, if your looking for something custom but close to ICS the neutrino rom is quite good, comes with the remountsd aswell, i've not had any probs so far over the last month or 2 using it

Try ics sd binder first and see if that helps

Can you access it from recovery, mounts and storage and back them up to a pc. Not practical but at least you might salvage your pics.
Also I used ICS SD binder with no problems, you have to change the file path from emmc to extSdCard though otherwise it won't find it.

Apparently all it needed was a factory reset/wipe data.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Edit I was wrong. Basically I wiped and rebooted into f1 pure gnex rom. Went into camera and behold my 500 pictures were there but all blank. I then rebooted again and they all disappeared.

Hidden videos on S3

Has anyone else found the random hidden videos in their s3? These videos don't show up when you go to Gallery > videos. I found 2 videos in /system/media/video . 1 called android in space the other called sunset.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I found. Since then wondering what would be their use? They may have use for specific system feature.
The only way to have found them is by having root access or via es file explorer or something similar. Just another of Google's Easter eggs?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Haha never noticed them android in space is awesome.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
They reside on the preload partition, have no use and come from Samsung.
Not exactly "hidden" if you ask me.

Not true, they are part of android, not just Samsung.
Also they are not in preload, they are part of system/media/ as already mentioned.
They are in all android installations, CyanogenMod has them, aosp has them etc. etc.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The reason for them being on the device as with other phones and tablets is so you can check video play back along with checking the screen quality while playing videos.

I would say they were hidden, a normal user wouldn't be looking around the root file systems. Most people who don't know what UNIX is would have no idea that there are directories other than what they can see on /sdcard

From normal user perspective they can be defined as hidden. I agreed. Wih Root and android everything.pretty much. is naked.

I just rooted my phone and I was wondering if I could still go into android system re

Only if you ask permission first.
That's why you root. What did you think you did it for?
