[Q] Axura GPS > Nero GPS? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I'm a big fan of both Nero and Axura, but I like Nero a bit more and would like to stick with it. My problem is the GPS signal on Nero when compared with Axura is dismal. I have added some images that speak for themselves. I should note I had the same results with previous modem versions and the GPS settings are identical, so the difference is pretty much the ROM. Also, even though I gave both the same time to lock on (about 2 minutes), Axura managed that level of accuracy in about 30 seconds, Nero too around twice as long.
So my question is: How can I copy all pertaining GPS configuration from Axura to Nero?
Thanks in advance!

how long does it take on both to lock on? on nero, im inside, its taking me like a few minutes... but nero gives me accuracy up to 6 meters, havent tested on axura...

For a lock it takes about a minute on Nero, starts at 50Mts, goes down to 15-20 in about 40 more seconds, then stays there. I had used Team Whiskey's ROMs pretty much since I got my Vibrant about 3 months ago, but once I tried Axura and got an accurate lock in seconds I haven't returned (except to try every release and see if it works as it should.)

I had the same problem I was using axura 2.1 and very good gps. installed Nero 5 and never could get a lock. I when to this post forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868774&highlight=vibrant+modem
downloaded one zip file in axura zip rom there is an update folder in the update folder there is the modem.bin I copied it to the first zip file (the modem update) and applied the update with CWM. Worked perfectly and I got 12 sats with lock in less than 30 secs.
Hope it helps if you have a problem (I used linux to do that) tell me which modem you used and I will make you an update.zip file

I dont know this varies so much from
phone to phone, but my GPS was always mediocre, got better with "GPS restore" and now finally with Nero 5 its what it should be.
It will lock on 5-6 sats in 10-20 sec Inside and find me to 20 ft.
I may never change again.
Secular
ps; its not good the first time but once it learns, the next time its super fast.

So.. Take the update.zip from axura and put it on sd card then flash?

there are other files in the axura update folder. I am not sure. What you need is the modem.bin, redbend_ua and also the script to update your system from CWM. So the best is to download one of the file in the post I referred to in my previous post and just unzip, change the modem.bin file with the one you want, rezip it and apply the update

Awesome

Sorry for the delay and thanks, that'd be very helpful! I'm currently using the latest (KA5) but I had the exact same results with JL5. I'd appreciate if you did the update.zip based on KA5, since it's the latest.

Have to agree with OP axura gps is good, with nero I would ndver get a gps lock

I am not sure I understand. The lastest axura uses JL5 if you want to use KA5 modem in Axura just download the zip file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868774&highlight=vibrant+modem and apply from CWM
Am I missing something?

Hi,
As you can see in the OP, I had both ROMS using KA5 and the difference was quite significant. The same difference occurs with JL5, so I do not believe the modem is the culprit here.
I thought there may be other files at play, and that is what I am asking for, really. Thanks!

I was thinking about flashing Nero 5 until I read this.

From what I've read your mileage may vary. I love Nero and it's a solid ROM. Do a Nandroid backup and try it out (don't forget to change the GPS settings and run the GPSRestore app from Samsung). If it doesn't work, restore.
I can tell you I have done every possible thing out there since I got the phone to have a working GPS, and flashing Axura has been the only one that has worked for me.

I would like to know this as well. Axura GPS just seems to be more consistent and significantly faster locks than Nero. Sadly. Wish the Axura settings would be incorporated to Nero.

After flashing new ROM (either Nero or Axura), I find GPS locks on very quickly but only for the first few days. Afterwards, it takes forever or don't lock on at all (again on either Nero or Axura).
I've also noticed switching from GPS Status to Maps to Compass or other GPS related software. The GPS has to re-lock which is strange since it has initially already locked on, no need to re-do it for every software.
So, I think it might be how Samsung has written their codes to use GPS hardware. And it's effecting the quick lock-on.
BTW, reason why I switch between GPS software is because I can't find ONE software that has maps, GPS info, and waypoint that I can toggle in.

I also notice my gps trying to relock while switching between apps like google maps, checking in via yelp or any other app that uses gps feature. I always find it strange why it needs to relock when it already has locked before. All in all, vibrant GPS sucks as hello.....maybe more than that. It made me buy a separate gps just for this sole reason.

[HOW TO] Install EB01 ROM with SlicedFlav or Stock

Excited to give you guys a walk through again. I have included my hybrid flavor of the EB01 stock ROM. I have kept TouchWiz on there but removed all bloat ware and dibinged the phone. I have also included the Gingerbread keyboard apk (separate install, I just love this keyboard.).
Give the shout out to the originators of this information. XDA is a great site.
Don’t worry, I have a link for the stock too.
First this will assume that you are on the DL30 leak. This is for the Fascinate and no other phone. I am not responsible for your doing. This is what worked for me.
If you are not up to the standard above click here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11177786#post11177786
**********************************************************************
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU DOING. THIS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR PHONE.
THIS IS JUST THE STEPS I DID TO GET MY PHONE TO EB01 FROYO.
***********************************************************************
You will need the following items:
Samsung Drivers
Odin 1.3
eb01modem.tar
update.zip
cwm_froyo.zip
eb01_SlicedFlav_pub.zip
OR
eb01_stock.zip
Now follow the below steps
1.] Download and install the Samsung Drivers
2.] Connect your phone to your computer and copy over the update.zip, cwm_froyo.zip, eb01_SlicedFlav_pub.zip (or) eb01_stock.zip to the “ROOT” of your SDCARD.
3.] After you download Odin and eb01modem.tar put them in the same folder.
4.] Disconnect your phone from the PC, power off, and pull your battery out. (It’s the easiest way)
5.] Plug in your phone while holding the volume down and turn the phone on. You will see a yellow triangle
***************************************************************************************
THIS IS IMPORTANT > DO NOT TOUCH ANY SETTINGS IN ODIN, ONLY USE THE PDA BUTTON AND THE START BUTTON.
IF YOU TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS IN ODIN YOU COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE.
***************************************************************************************
6.] Launch Odin as administrator in Vista and 7.
7.] Select the PDA button. AND ONLY THE PDA BUTTON, YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE.
8.] Select the “eb01modem.tar” file.
9.] Click on “Start”.
10.] You phone will shut off, give it a min or so and it will boot back into download mode.
11.] Unplug your phone, put your battery back in, and boot into recovery mode by holding volume up and down while pressing the power button. Let go of the power button when you see “Samsung”.
12.] Scroll using your volume up and down keys. Highlight "apply sdcard:update.zip” and use your “Home” key to select.
13] Now you want to “wipe cache” twice for good measure. Highlight “wipe cache” and use your power button to select now. Scroll down and select “Yes” both times.
14.] Now you will want to “wipe data/factory reset” twice. Highlight “wipe data/factory reset” select it, and then select “Yes”.
15.] Now you will want to select “install zip from sdcard” then select “choose zip from sdcard”.
16.] Scroll down and select “cwm_froyo.zip” and confirm it. The screen will go wonky for a second.
17.] Select “choose zip from sdcard” again.
18.] Scroll down and select “eb01_SlicedFlav_pub.zip” or “eb01_stock.zip” confirm your selection.
19.] Let it do its thing and boot up.
You now have the way SlicedDrip feels the Fascinate should be and the way Verzion thinks it should be.
Have fun.
If you want the Gingerbread keyboard, download it HERE, move to your phone, use your favorite file manager, browse, and install.
The following only applies to the SlicedFlav install:
ITEMS REMOVED:
All VZW apps
Blockbuster
Media Hub
All Share
Samsung Keyboard
My Files
Write and Go
All Demo Gams
Nuance
Buddies Now
City ID
Skype
Kindle
Most live wallpapers, kept default, when I removed it would give me errors on first start up.
Visual Voicemail
THINGS STAYED / SAME:
TouchWiz
Debinged Browser
Third party sync application
Swype

Is this rom able to keep perfect time with verizon's updater?
the other roms like jt's and adrenalyne's has a time lag which i'm so annoyed of. Please confirm by downloading clocksync and check if it's consistent.
Also, it seems like the cwm.zip or the update file from adrenalyne's doesn't work with your rom. corrrect? It's stuck on the samsung bootup screen.

I will have to check on the clock sync.
The files I have linked in my original post are the ones I used for my phone.
What are you currently running. The only thing I did on my flavor ROM was delete files from the stock version (it is linked on the original.)

I just got your rom flashed on my phone. It seems like the clockwork was the problem. I came from adrenalyne's EB01 2.3. The clockwork I was using was an older version of JT's. Your rom ONLY works with JT's new ALL_FROYO_CWM and presumably the one you posted on this thread.
Onto your rom... IT'S PERFECT (so far). Seems like the battery lasts longer and there is no time lag... but what do I know, I only had it for an hour. I'll reply once I spend more time with it. If it's consistent, YOU HAVE THE BEST ROM FOR SAMSUNG FASCINATE AT THE MOMENT!!!!!!
Was easy to install man.thanks for your hard work and time. Noticed the update.zip you has on the op didn't work for me. Had to use my original cwm update.zip and when in contacts the back button wouldn't exit the contacts menu. Peace out, achron

TIME IS PERFECT (no time lag like every single other rom), BATTERY LASTS FOREVER!!! TOUCHWIZ IS REALLY NICE WITHOUT BLOATWARE AND YOU KNOW IT!!!! FROYO FTW
I've tried every single rom from JT's and PUNK KAOS and ADRENALYN'S. This one actually works flawlessly and doesn't have any problems with it. MARK MY WORDS!!! The other roms will burden you with either time lag, few hour battery, not working hardware, etc. BELIEVE ME!!! this is the only rom that was MADE for this phone. THANK YOU man.

While I appreciate your opinion and review of the ROM directly comparing it to other ones can sometimes feel like your slighting those devs so yeah, this rom is terrific I've used it, but I've used the other ones you've listed as well and I think they're just as good, directly comparing them like this is for lack of better words rude as you're dissing someone's work that they made for you for free.
So yeah, I just had to let that out because I've seen such criticisms of other dev's roms a lot recently and it bothers me. They're working for free, you might like one better than the other, but really its not smart to try to say one thing is better than the other period, or that a rom is bugged and doesn't work and lags etc etc its just rude.

theres nothing in this rom that would significantly affect battery life one way or the other...really only undervolt kernels will do that...and we dont have them for froyo yet.
and you do realize that jt, pk, and adrynalyne are responsible for virtually everything on this device and that anything built is just variations on what they have done. theres only so much that can be done to a touchwiz based rom, so anything that does come out will, again, just be another variation of what has already been done.
nice work by the op of course, but get some things straight.
(not to discredit the work of birdman, et all just these 3 were mentioned)
hmm.... I wasn't criticizing the developers themselves (sorry for leaving birdman), but the roms themselves
I was just frustrated I missed some important meetings because the alarm didn't go off due to the time lag.
Anyhow, this rom, a variation of the top 4 developers, turns out to still have the time lag. It was off by a whole 30 minutes this morning. Seems like all EB01 and DL30 has this bug T T .
any remedies? I remember punkkaos' rom not having time lag,,, but.. well, you know.
at least the battery life improves. here.
What do I need to do if I am using the Dj05 build to install this?
I find it amusing that you would blame any dev for the time lag issue when its a bug in dl30 and eb01. It happens even on the stock roms. So point your frustration at Samsung.
As for battery life, to each their own. We all use the same kernels, radios, and battery drivers.
Sent from my perfectly clock synced superclean 2.4.
Have you removed the extra libs and framework files associated with the apps that you removed from the ROM?

so sorry adrynalyne. I unintentionally misdirected my anger. I should be angry at my fellow koreans T T, Hopefully you read this and forgive.
I actually fell in love with your rom again after you added the 5 lock screens at 2.4 (Im weirdly addicted to a message shortcut from lock screen)
Hopefully another driver or gingerbread will somehow improve battery. The 3500mah batteries they sell on ebay don't look so pretty.
There seems to be a variation with the time lag. Some of my friend's fascinate are always fine, some aren't

Which ROM to pick up? Too spoilt for choice!

I initially rooted and flashed my S2 using Litening, but moved over to VillianROM once it started looking like Litening was not going to get any further updates.
However, I kept getting odd force close issues using VillianROM, and Titanium Backup refused to work properly due to the ROM missing Busybox support.
I'm now using the Batista70 ROM, but 3G reception and battery usage have gotten worse compared to the other two ROMs. Even with full 3G reception available, the phone takes a ridiculous long time to load online content. That did not happen with Litening or VillainROM.
What other proven and popular ROMs would you all recommend I try?

Your problems sound user created, when installing any rom with different bases, always wipe everything and when restoring backups from Titanium, never restore system data, only apps and their data, Villain Rom is one of the most stable custom roms out here.

+1 to this. Try some other kernels before switching ROMs.
I'm on Batista and it's quite solid.
try miui 1.10.28.
i was in the exact same situation that you are in.
i was on stock kg5 and when i wanted to try custom roms i waited for the first 2.3.5 custom rom. and villain rom came out first so i flashed it. but i found out that deodexed stock roms are not as smooth or as bug free as odexed ones (titanium backup didnt always work).
so i went back to stock odexed ki8 then moved to stock odexed ki4 with jkays mod.
all was good but i felt that there still are better roms out there. so i did a nandroid backup (you do itin cwm, and what it does is take a snapshot of your phones software so that when u restore it you go back to exactly how your phone was at the time u did it) then i tried cyanogennmod 7 and it was FAST! but i wanted to also try miui because i heard it was more user friendly but gives the same speed improvments that cm7 has. and i personally recommended that u try both cm7 and miui after doing a nandroid backup and a full titanium backup.
ps: sorry for the long post but i think you would find it useful.
pps; when u flash miui or cm7, dont restore app data in titanium backup or contacts or calendar data or any of that only restore non-system apps then restore the app data of each app individualy (only if you need the data)
ppps; to move your appointments and contacts sync them whith your google account. and then restore them after you flash
Before installing CM7 or MIUI install a ROM with old bootloader, KH3 for instance, or you will have problems...
Checkrom version 1 is awesome super smooth and great battery life you can choose what you want through the kitchen. Version 2 is a bit buggy but you won't have problems with the v1

I have charged it abit like overall 5minutes but took it off straight away. But the result is great for long day users. I mean 15 hour and 30 minutes and I still have 75% left, you can see I left Wifi connected all day (while I was sleeping or I would have more battery). Also you can see I have abit of screen on time like 30 - 1 hour max along with 'Awake', that is music streaming along with youtube streaming (screen off but listening to youtube music) which is about 4 - 5 or 5 - 6 hour max.

In this case, did you try installing Busybox from the market or try downloading busybox from within the Titanium Backup app, if you continue flashing ROMS willy nilly without first having a better grasp of what you are doing, you would either get lucky or continue having ROM issues, but I assure you, the problems thus far doesn't seem to be the ROMS.
And where did the information that deodexed ROMS are not as stable come from, I would like to read this info myself as I have used VR for months without any issue and many others can testify about using other deodexed custom ROMS
ODEX versus DEODEX
I'm the kind of person who flashes a new rom / update every three or so days.
So I can say I've tried close to every combination of ROM and Kernel abailable on the forums.
My favourite combination which I'm running at the moment is;
Androidmeda_Awesome_Arae_v1.3.2
combined with
SpeedMod K2-12
My battery never runs dry and never/close to recieve and FCs
Try Rom kitchen ki8 coupled with speedmod k2-13 kernel.
Best Rom I've tried, including the newer xwkj1 and cm7.

The GPS Won't Lock (Already tryed gps.conf, fasterfix, gpsfix, without luck)...HELP!

Hi everyone!
Well, I live in SouthAmerica (Argentina), and I bought an unlocked AT&T Atrix 4G a couple of months ago.
When I was on the stock Gingerbread Firmware, the GPS worked Fine. But when I unlocked the phone, and started playing with ROMs, the gps stopped working.
Currently I have CM7 Weekly #4, but i previously had: Wet Dream V1.3, CM7 Ba2TF, CM7 Weekly #3, and the issue was present on all of that roms.
I tryed with the proper gps.conf configuration for my country, and a lot more, and none of them worked or improved anything. I also tryed with the following apps: Faster Fix, GPS FIx, GPS Status, and again, none of them worked.
So, I was wondering (If there isn't any other solution): Can I go back to the Official AT&T Gingerbread Firmware (.SBF file), or I will brick my phone?
If so, anyone knows where can I find that SBF? Because all the links I saw were on Megaupload, Filesonic, Fileserve, or similar, and all of them are down, or restricting the download.
Help will be highly appreciated!

Help will be highly appreciated!

flash a stock rom SBF file using RSD Lite should be fine. But don't go back to Froyo, any Gingerbread stock roms should be ok.
Well, i installed the SBF, and now the GPS works perfectly...
Why It doesnt work in custom Roms?

Hi,
Could you please try Neutrino V2. 1p rom?
There is a gps tweak in add-on.
First, flash the rom and test the GPS.
Then if it work, flash the add-on.
But for me it's another problem, it's really strange...
Do you full wipe (with fastboot) before flash?
Let me know by PM, I will not follow this thread carefully.
We will found a solution ;-)
Regards
-JFK-
I have the same problem and tried everything like the posted said above.
Running Cyanogen 7.1 on AT&T (USA)
Wish I could be more helpful, but I can at least confirm that the GPS works fine for me running cm7 weekly #6 with faux123's 1.3 kernel (on an AT&T Atrix). In flight mode (i.e., no data and thus no A-GPS or other location assistance) I can get a lock in less than 10 seconds with a good view of the sky.
I do not know if you tried reflashing your radio as discussed in the atrix-dev-team faq:
code.google.com/p/atrix-dev-team/wiki/FAQ
You say you have tried various firmwares but didn't mention what kernels you were using. If you are using the stock kernels, the faux123 or Clemsyn kernels might be worth a shot . . . obviously you need to flash the right kernel (i.e., if you are using a cm7 firmware, use the custom kernels specifically built for cm7).
If you already tried all this, well, sorry . . . give -JFK-'s suggestion a try.

I tried the Neutrino ROM GPS fix, it worked amazingly. My phone was taking forever to lock, so I flashed the United_States.zip file from the GPS fix, and it solved my problem. Used GPSFix app from the Market/Play Store to finalize it.
I'm running Ba2TF Beta 3 (CM7.1).
Again, this file is only for the United States Atrixes.
had the same problem with the phone since first day i started using custom roms,
but i managed to solve it a few days ago..... what i did was
go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252011
and download the 3.x Google Specific CWM Flashable build there
or just click this direct link http://derekgordon.com/gps-files/agps.patch.google.build.cwm.v3.1.zip
flash it with CWM,
then using root explorer, go to your phone system\etc\
and open gps.conf with text editor,
with in the first few lines, u will see this
NTP_SERVER=ntp.derekgordon.com
Click to collapse
there is only one NTP server,
so go to http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/
and under active servers, select your sub-continent and u will some ntp server addresses, add that to your gps.conf.
than go into your country specific link and add the ntp server addresses u found there into the gps.conf file as well.
if you follow those steps correctly, your NTP server list for gps.conf should look like this for Argentina
NTP_SERVER=ntp.derekgordon.com
NTP_SERVER=0.ar.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.ar.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.ar.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.ar.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.south-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.south-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.south-america.pool.ntp.org

now go stand somewhere with open sky as sometimes buildings block the gps signal so it can't get a proper lock,
cross your fingers and activate your gps and hope it works....
and don't forget to leave the gps open a few mins for the first time you activate the gps after the above steps
as i remember reading somewhere in the AGPS original post that it kinda help the gps locks faster.....
if u are geeky and wanna know how many sats ur GPS is locking on,
download this neat GPS tool https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0
and see for yourself and while you are at it, u might wanna calibrate your compass for faster and more accurate GPS lock,
which can b done from (menu button)\tools\compass calibration
might as well do the 'calibrate pitch and roll' too,
but don't touch the 'manage A-GPS state' unless u know what u are doing as i have no idea what it does...
if you really wanna know how AGPS works, just go read it's original post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252011
cause i dunno how it works, i just know that my gps works after flashing and tweaking it
I have also been reading that switching radios can help the gps signal lock. Might be worth your time to look into it as well.
I had this issue just the other day and i just had a setting unchecked were it wasnt useing the interal gps for the lock not sure how that happend but it fixed my problem

Thanks.
I looked at this. I've since switched to Neutrino but same problem.
In my settings it provides the option to use internal GPS (as the only option) but even when selected the GPS source states ""use external bluetooth gps..."
Could this be the issue, that for some reason it's not detecting GPS hardware?

CM10 Inconsistency & No GPS Lock

I rooted my phone and installed the latest CM10 Rom from this XDA thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851912
However, although everything else seems to work just fine, such as Bluetooth, camera, etc., my GPS does not lock.
I've tried searching the forms here but I can't find a definite answer on how to get my GPS to lock.
When I used to have the the HTC EVO 4G, I had to do some ###GPS... stuff in a Sense ROM and then use that to get the GPS to lock when I installed CM7 but I found a few people who tried that and it didn't work.
Also, when I first tried installing the CM10 Rom, I got stuck with the CM10 boot animation so I followed the following instructions and finally got it to work:
Extract the boot.img from the CM9 ROM zip, and flash it through fastboot ("fastboot flash boot boot.img"), and then flash the ROM through recovery (or you can do that in the reverse order, and it should still work).
I think knowing that may also help.
Anyways, bottom line is, how can I get my GPS to lock in CM10.
I have TWRP installed.
That's not the newest build. Get the newest nightly here: http://get.cm/?device=jewel
Try flashing that and see if it helps your GPS issue.
And if you have HBOOT 1.15 or newer and have to flash the kernel (boot.img) separately in fastboot, make sure it's the one that comes in the new CM10 ROM zip you download from the above link.
Alternatively you can download GPS Tools from the market, it will erase location data cache and reset GPS, pretty nifty tool
I don't know if it will help or not, but some folks have been having luck with this process:
Do a clean install of CM10, wipe system, cache, dalvik, and do a factory reset, or flash the super wipe script that is available(do a search)
reboot phone after install see if GPS locks.
if not, reboot into recovery, and do a nandroid backup of your phone.
wipe phone again and do a clean install of a Sense ROM.
Boot into Sense Rom and get a GPS lock
immediately boot into recovery
this step is optional, but you can do a nandroid of your sense Rom at this point in case you need to go back.
Restore your CM10 nandroid and try to get a GPS lock.
Hopefully Profit!
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I tried all the suggestions but the one that temporarily worked for me was where you flashed a Sense ROM, got a GPS lock, went into Boot and flashed CM10. Unfortunately, this only works while you don't restarted your phone. It was working for me on CM10 but then I tested to see if GPS will lock after a restart and it didnt.
I'm just going to use FreshEVO until an official CM10 build is out and whenever this issue is addressed on a more official level.
Thanks again for all the help!

Official CM10 builds have been out for over a week. Hopefully you followed my suggestion and downloaded one from the link I provided. The one you said you used is an earlier unofficial build.
Hope everything works out for you.

Yup, I downloaded the lasted CM10 ROM and then followed the other two suggestions but the GPS locked during one session after going through a Sense ROM. But, like I said, once I restarted my phone, I lost the locking. I'll just wait until something more solid comes out.
Thanks again for all the help!
Chiming in that GPS still doesn't work in latest cm10.
Really frustrating, cm10 is still far from a daily driver. Any other GPS fixes to try before I go back to MeanRom?

I tried the latest nightly available in the cm10 thread and GPS still doesn't work.
Are the IRC builds even newer than the nightlies? Not having GPS is a dealbreaker for me and I'm unfortunately back on MeanRom until CM10 has working GPS.
Have you tried the clrgps trick? I don't remember the exact code but its floating around the forums, flash back to sense use this to clear and reset the GPA and then open maps to get a location fix, then flash back. Alternatively you can try downloading GPS Tools from the market to clear and reset gps

I tried downloading GPS Tools from the Play store and reset the GPS data and got a fix under MeanRom, then flashed back to CM10 and no GPS at all.
GPS locks nearly instantly under MeanRom, but under CM10 I let it sit out on my car dash for a 30 minute ride and it didn't lock on at all.
Here is the fix that worked for me. Flash to a Sense ROM, download GPS tools. Clear GPS data and then download GPS data. Make a Titanium backup of GPS Tools.
Flash back to your CM10 ROM, restore GPS tools through Titanium.
Never thought of that....clever
In location settings of cm10, you have to them on the internal GPS source. After flash it is set to external GPS source (Bluetooth device, etc.) After I switched this option, and did the sense trick, my GPS locks in seconds.

Where can I find this "GPS Tools" on the market? Whenever I search for that, I just get a bunch of GPS test crap. Is it not called GPS Tools? Also, can you explain the backup process using TB in more detail?

Basically the same thing as GPS Tools, I wonder what happened to GPS Tools, it was really simple to use

Solved Bluetooth Audio Streaming Problem [CM10][I9300 International]

Hello
I have investigated the problem for one week and found a solution for me
The Problem is the short distance of the Bluetooth audio transmission!
There are two settings file for the BCM4334 WIFI BLUETOOTH IC and it seems that it depends on the phone which is better.
For me it sadly was not the common used for CM10 nightly!
So i build two CWM files for you to test the differences.
Maybe we can find out on what it depend
I bought my S3 in Austria (the carrieris H3G) and for me bcm4334_semcosh works fine!
greetings
Patrick
Hi Patrick
So. I had i fine working BT audio streaming with cm 10. Then Changed to cm10.1. BT-connection was crap.
Flashed both of your files.
Aaaaaand: tataaa. the second one seems to work for me.
Thanx a lot!
so you are able to establish a audio-stream-connection longer than 1m?
This works for me! Used the second zip file listed (bcm4334_semcosh.zip) and it did the trick. Tried streaming some music from about 5m from the receiver, no problems at all! Thanks OP!
On CM10 I had excellend bluetooth audio streaming up to +/- 6 metre, on CM10.1 audio is (just) ok with max distance +/- 1 metre.
For who want to know, the Samsung bluetooth firmware files (bcm4334*) wrapped in the two packages in the first post are also in the CM 10.1 rom, see screenshot or browse to /system/bin/
Seems like the murata version is installed by default by CM 10.1.
I did a manual copy, rename and a reboot to try both files (e.g. to try the murata version, copy bcm4334_murata.hcd to bcm4334.hcd).
Both files give me the same performance I had already, sound is ok and max distance still +/- 1 metre.

Hi there!
I'm on CM 10 on my SGS 3 too and have the problem of not being able to pair with my car's radio.

Any suggestions?

No Cell Data
I'm using Galaxy S3 Verizon with cm-10.1-20130121-EXPERIMENTAL-d2vzw-M1
I flashed both of these files using ClockWork Mod. Neither helped my performance. I still have very poor Bluetooth A2DP audio and it will cut out after about a minute of playing.
The bigger issue I'm having is that I now get zero cell phone reception. I can't make calls, send texts, or use cell data. Wifi, GPS, and bluetooth all work. I had the phone in airplane mode when I flashed the first file, but I'm thinking that wouldn't have affected it.
Any ideas on how to get back to the original bcm4334 file?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I actually did that and after the reboot I still don't have cell service. I even backed up all my apps and settings with Titanium. Wiped all user data and wiped cache, then flashed again. After doing the initial setup after the reboot, I still don't have cell service. I'm going to try to flash a different version of CM10.1, one of the nightly's and see if that helps any. I wish I would have done a full backup with CWM before flashing that bluetooth file

hm
yes a full wipe dont help
but if you flash CM again it is for sure overridden!
So your problem have another source.
I would guess you had flashed an other radio rom (CM dont come with Radio so new flashing has no effect on radio rom)
Also call problems are independent of the bluetooth hardware ...
I would recommend you to flash the orginal rom again and then rood again and then again flash CM but be careful as flashing is risky
greetings Patrick
Yeah I'm starting to think it was a just a coincidence that it stopped working when it did. From other threads I've found the best bet will be to indeed flash back to stock ROM and then back to CM. I'm downloading the stock ROM now found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
The only thing I did was flashed that semcosh.zip file using CWM though, so I'm not sure how that would have affected my radio.
Good thing it's a slow day in the office! Also, I think I'm just going to use wired headphones from now on!

Just an update. I downloaded that root66.tar and flashed it with Odin. Did a full data wipe after (because it was stuck on the Verizon 4g splash screen). Still didn't have cell connection. Then did the step 2 on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35600769&postcount=2
Open the dialer and enter *2767*3855#
After it did some other sort of factory reset, I finally have cell connection again. And all before I leave work for the day.

I have the same problem as you. When I disconnect from the car, all notification sounds are lost, BUT I've realized that you don't need to reboot. If you recieve a call to your phone (no email, sms or whatsapp, only a call will do the trick), it will actually ring and from then on, notifications go back to normal. It's not actually a fix, but until one comes out, it makes this issue a little less a pain in the ass.
Hope this helps. If anyone knows how to fix this for real then help is largely appreciated.
PS. My first custom ROM in S3 was CM10.1 nightly (the latest version available today) so I can't tell what happened before, but except for the mentioned issue and maybe a subtle loss in streaming quality, BT pairs and streams quite alright. Oh, and the media system in my car (Citröen C4) used to show artist and song name while streaming and doesn't anymore.
