Help, I can no longer run unsigned executables - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I ran into a strange situation. While trying severald Andorid builds (mostly RAM based), I lost the ability to run unsigned executables.
I'm currently on stock T-Mobile 3.14 ROM, and do not wish to HSPL yet. Normally the way to fix this was removing and replacing the battery, effectively resetting any flags set. However even that does not work.
Is there an easy solution to this situation?

Nevermind, a re-flash fixed the situation

This worked for me. Nice software MobilControl.

I'm just about to come into possession of one.

...Details are best left private, but the unit was one of the first Atoms to be released. it has been upgraded to the Jan rom, and then left alone because its owner was, uh, more chicken than I am. The Mini I used to own will be going to someone else. >_>
I will miss Bigstorage, a small price to pay for (somewhat) limited Wifi and no longer having to fear losing all my data to a power out.
Few questions here:
1. Is it safe to use the Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822.exe from the FTP yet?
2. Should I use that or the Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe ?
3. Is there a way to disable the message that refuses to run unsigned exes, or is there an exe signer anywhere? I remember it having problems with programs that don't need installation.
Thanks in advance.
...Just got it today.
Apparently it's been through the service centre once, so it's ROM turned out to be the 20060426 one - radio still at RS*49. Still wondering if I should flash for the new radio driver.
I've read through the forums and I think I won't be messing around with the Exec rom for now.
Thanks, all.
i currently using the Atom with Atom Exec ROM version Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822
and so far until now, no prob at all..
anyone know how to cook WM5 ROM in atom,
cause, i see to other forum, they have the ROM WM5 AKU3.5 into their device,,
why can we (atom) have that to??
Ehehehehehe. Finally took the risk, nearly lost my phone - tho it was easily fixed by flashing over with the same Exec rom again. The ROM I grabbed from the FTP right here on xdadev. <_<
See, a funny thing happened.
I installed the Extrom revealer hack for extra space.
Then I installed SKTools Trial 3.0.75 - and thereafter the Extrom revealer hack stopped working.
So my device asked me this question - "Do you want to format your Storage Card so it's easily readable?"
not wanting to get my 2gig eaten, I removed it, and tried to click NO... only I accidentially touched "Yes".
Whoops.
Everything just stopped working - well, except the phone and basic winDOS mobile 5 apps.
Soft reset - device took ages to boot. Nothing that isn't WM5 native runs.
Hard reset - device went wonky, still booted, but screen got out of alignment. Still usable, but autoconfig not working (detected Sim as jumble of numbers, but phone still works).
Went into device settings -> system info.
Guess what I saw:
CMOS: NULL (WTF)
ExtROM: NULL (WTF)
...correct
...correct
...correct
And upon looking at the Flash Size, I saw 192MB (?!). Fake number?
(No screenshots will be made avaliable. I will NOT do this again.)
Anyways, a reflash put the unit back in full working condition, problem, but I'm still seeing it report that I have 192MB of Flash RAM avaliable. Oy.
Still workink for now, but I hope this won't mess up the system any. -.-

"no GSM" problem. All workaround posted doesn't work! Pls HELP!!!

Hi all,
First of all I want to let you know that I did search the forum for a solution. In fact, I found a lot of workarounds but none of them actually worked.
Let me give some details about my problem: My Hermes was working fine. I was running the official WM6 ROM supplied by HTC, so no customized ROM here.
It was going fine until the WM frozed. Then I soft reset the device and after that I never got cellular signal again.
While booting the device I got the message: "no GSM".
First thing I tried was to flash a new radio ROM. In all the attempts the progress bar never moved from 0% and after a while I got the communication problem error.
Then I tried flashing a whole ROM. This time the progress bar stopped at 81%. Apparently in the first 81% it flashes the OS and in the last 19% it writes the radio. Anyway, I tried this a few times and never finished.
In fact, after every communication error message I got stuck in the bootloader screen.
The only thing that works is to flash a ROM WITHOUT the radio!!
Is there anything I can do to save my phone or am I condemned to use my Hermes as a phone-less pda?
I tried everything I found in the wiki/forums, but I couldn't find a working solution.
I suspect that the blocks of memory where the radio data reside got corrupted, could that be possible?
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance!
Chris
A similar thing happen to me several months ago. While on a call my phone froze and when I soft-reset it the dreaded 'No GSM' issue appeared. I tried flashing radios/full roms/etc, but nothing worked. I ended up sending my phone to the htc repair facility and they fixed it at no cost. (Other than not having a phone for ~10 days)
Thanks dang, but I don't have a HTC service center where I live (Argentina, LATAM)
I'm faithful that the people of this wonderful community will be able to help me.
Just for curiosity, where did you send your device? Is it in the US?
cheers
sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is if i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
How can I try that?

You can use 'lnb' in HardSPL without having a real SuperCID; however you will not be able to flash a radio with 'lnb' command. The radio chipset has its own bootloader, the and the SPL just acts as a pass-through sending the data directly to radio chipset through the s2410 UART.
I had one device with non-responsive htc_boot and tried all kinds of SPL patches to flash htc_boot again on radio, without success. The only known method to fix this is to take the BGA chip out with hot air and reflash it with special hardware, as it is not common to have this equipment at home, your only option is to send it somewhere to do it for you.
However, I don't want to discourage you to research on it, maybe you find something i didn't
I have a similar problem
I also have a NO GSM and corrupted CID but I can access KITL and use it with PB 5.0. and I followed this steps here but the phone doesnt boot completely. It stops just after the two boot screens on Black WM6 ending on a white screen and the debug window on PB after loading all sort of things begin showing these lines over and over:
@@@@@@ HUB state changes now @@@@@@
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN TRUE
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN FALSE
Is there any hope for me? I have the cingular 8525
thanks
Gents, do you think the solution presented in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280425 could help me?
Please advise.
thanks again

I sent it to the HTC service center in Texas, US.
I just got my replacement from ATT.. Had the same problem. Its a hardware problem.. I wouldnt waste anymore of your time.
first, i'm sorry for my english
I've the same problem with a V1605 (french SFR), i've tried every solution but flash radio doesn't work.
I can flash cooked os without any problem, but it's impossible to put official
It's only a pda now, it's better than a brick
My hernes use to be the same as you 'NoGSM'.I tried to install the official rom,but it 's not work at all.I called to service center ask this problem,so they said that it must be only changed the mainboard. That 's terrible!!!

That only works with phones with KITL...which I don't seem to have.
Sorry, how to config the phone with KITL and solve the no gsm problem.
No GSM but when sim inserted
Hi all, First sorry for my bad english.
I also have 2 bricked Tytn Hermes 200. Its not my personal ones Its my company's property, which pple were using this phones. So i'm facin with problem which many pple here having but with exception. both phones having no gsm error when sim inserted but without sim its fine. In other words , device info showing every info including IMEI when sim unavailable. And some times works with sim but after making few call and receiving phone hangs(not system) and goes off from network but anthena signal still showing few bars. I'm thinking maybe the radio hangs totally and goes off, and after soft restart NO GSM. I also tried many flashing upgrading those things nothing can really help me.
When im flashing original rom from HTC (the latest one HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108) its hanging on 12% and doing 3 or 4 times recovery , but its finishes succesfully. So what exactly happening in 12th%?. Maybe its started flashing radio and stopped on bad block ? But then why its finishes succesfully after few retry?. Ok so if any one wants to experiments on the phones except radio welcome. I'll help. And some can give me quick example of how to check bad blocks?.
Tnx.

#1. have you try the comm button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
#2. OR try the comm button+OK button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
anyway, i'm not sure if KITL is dependend on the ROM version. because when my device was in NO GSM status, SPL is 1.04, HTC bootloader is 0108, and lost SuperCID. Because of my device is still has SPL 1.04, i was able to load WM5 full ROM upgrade using WWE HTC English QTEK_001 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 version (ROM available on this site under HERMES Upgrade link), run it twice. once you have successful load the WM5 ROM then try to do step #1 or #2 above to get KITL USB display on your screen device.
Note: i don't think KITL mode is not available once your device is in Production Mode. anyone here can verify this?

My device is still SuperCID and I know I don't have KITL...I have SPL 1.04 as well and HTC Bootloader is 0108. I can't install any ROMs with radios as they will hang at 11/12%. I will attempt this "overload" method where it seems some people have had luck with it...after a few recoveries it just finally installs...but I don't think that will be the case.
If I can't fix this in a few days, I will most likely use my warranty or just wait for the Kaiser.
My variation of No GSM
I feel like I have problem 1A...where I am able to boot into OS but no GSM.
I am still SuperCID, SPL 1.04, HTC Bootloader 0108. Last known radio before corruption was 1.48.00.00. ROM where this problem occured: VP3G 3.60.1.
I was not even in the middle of an upgrade...just a soft reset after my phone ALREADY lost GSM capabilities during a tether session. It was stuck with no signal in Phone Mode...I put it in Flight Mode...then tried to move it back to Phone Mode and it wouldn't do so. I soft reset...and the no GSM stuck.
I tried to reinstall radio...many errors...stuck on bootloader. At first, OS's only were not installing as well but I got past that. Now I am able to boot into OS's with limited capabilities...and they will NOT ACTIVESYNC at all. Regardless of how old or new the ROM is. I tried older OS's that I knew worked in the past for me...but they refused to activesync.
Due to that, I am not able to install latest HardSPL 2.10Oli via SSPL. That seems to be the only way to do it according to my knowledge and what I've read. Maybe mtty was capable but I'm not sure. HardSPL 1.40Oli wasn't giving me any problems though, but I just wanted to have the latest one so I can avoid IPL damage.
I can only install anything if I start the device in bootloader...and I'm only limited to the OS since my Radio Bootloader seems corrupted.
I'm not sure what caused the corruption in the first place...but I feel annoying now posting on different parts of the forum with a problem that seems to be growing in the community.

is there a way to use "lnb" commands without being SuperCID?

actually there's a very simple solution to it;
dump the NBH and then rebuild it without the radio.

110% non-brick upgrade ?

Is there anyway that is 100% safe to upgrade or is there always some amount of risk that a unit will end up a brick ?
I've read so much here and on other forums my head spins lol. I was like all set to just do it and then I got the phone lol, now I'm getting cold feet because I read so many people have bricked their phone.
Also can the SPL be done by SD card or does it need to be done with a computer ? I know some will say do a search, I have and man there are so many choices is there just a page or link with a simple idiots guide ?
Its better to do all the upgrading through a PC. Its more safer than SD Card upgrade.
Simple way
Do the HardSPL first then do anything you want. Try to look for Mr.Vanx guides
I agree with beastfellow, install hardspl first then you can flash any hermes rom you like. I have flashed my heremes over 50 times,i even flashed it 12 times in a week as long as the roms you have have no radio or spl in them then they should be fine to flash. Just make sure they hermes roms you are flashing.
hardspl can be downloaded from here http://pof.eslack.org/hermes-unlocker/
guide to how to do it is located here

other guides and there links can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
anyway my advice is to go for it. I have only ever bricked one device and that was a wallaby back in the day.
good luck and make sure you read EVERYTHING ,twice if you have to
Dalork,
I felt exactly the same way as you a couple of years back. What I did was to read every scrap of info I could find, constantly assessing the risk, while looking for a stable rom.
Key criteria for my rom search was what other people were saying about that rom (good and bad) and the developers willingness to resolve issues. In the first instance this led me to Schaps and his brilliant roms. For my rom history see my signature.
Read the following threads very carefully, then read the threads on one rom from Schaps and, say, a rom from Kin0ken. Look at the 6.0 roms, NOT the 6.1 versions...
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes.
Also use these search tools:
wiki - http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q= +site:http://wiki.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
forum - http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
entire xda site -
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:xda-developers.com
Once you are fully genned up then prepare your kit carefully, e.g. make sure your phone batttery is fully charged, then upgrade your rom as you logically and carefully work your way step by step through Mr Vanx guides.
First time I upgraded I had the Mr Vanxguide open on my desktop PC whilst I ran the rom upgrade off my laptop. Using the laptop meant that in the unlikely event of a power cut (does happen where I live) I wouldn't instantly end up with a bricked phone.
Good luck and PM me if you need help/any further info.
Cheers
WB
Thanks for the help folks, I'm just worried I'll brick it as I have a friend who tried this and his is a nice paper-weight now.
I must be getting confused as I thought doing the flashing direct frm the SD card was the safest ?
Anyways, I'm not certain at this point which is the best or safest ROM to go with. I was going to do the Hard-SPL-V7 (2.10 Olipro) and was think of the Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
ATM the unit has ROM 1.30.707.4 8/22/06 and Radio 1.20.31.10
I don't think it's ever been flashed as yet as the bootloader is IPL-1.01-SPL-1.06
ask your mate if i can have his paper weight i have a nice rock to swap for it
scousemartin, lol I had already asked him that before I bought my dopod as I was hoping to come here and find out if it could be fixed.
Another point, after upgrading the phone to say WM6 or whatever can you still recover/reload the original factory WM5 system/set-up ?
I guess I'm in-fact quite happy with how the phone is already I just really want to be able to use a 8GB Micro SDHC card so I can load more programs and music. I don't know if any of the radio ROM's will improve my signal as such but battery life seems to be ok already. Used the phone quite a bit today, started off with 80% battery and finished off tonight with still having 70%.
Then why not search for the wm5/6 sdhc fix instead of potentially bricking your phone. Try this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338
Also, I still reckon, and I believe I'm not alone, that flashing via the sd card is safest....
Direct quote from Wam7's posts -
Flashing your ROM without HARDSPL is like going to a South African brothel without any condoms...
and not using a MicroSD Card is like walking into a prison, dropping your pants and yelling "come and get it boys!"
I rest my case...

Thanks heaps for that, and I agree I did think flashing from a SD card would be safer as there is no risk in USB/sync problems, no cable to bump...etc..etc... But then I'm a total newbie, what I think doesn't always make sense lol.
If I just do the Hard-SPL-V7 and then something like Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full and don't do the radio ROm is there really much chance of bricking the Dopod ?
While I say I'm not bothered with upgrading the OS and everything else, it's mostly because I'm **** scraed of bricking it lol. I guess it would be silly to say I wouldn't like the better features of a decent upgrade, I just have to get my head around it somehow. But I WILL need more space as I really like to put lots of music on it and some games/apps. Hence the SDHC, I'd like 4GB but would love 8GB as I doubt I'd ever run out of room then.
As it is with my current phone I have 3 x 1GB cards which I just swap around and I hate having to do that and I'm always losing/misplacing the damn things.
If you are SERIOUSLY thinking of upgrading, Hard SPL your phone. You can find the thread "Hard SPL or how not to brick your Hermes" in the upgrading section. Its best to do this as it is the safest we thing you can do. It won't prevent a brick but it makes it a lot more fixable. I have never bricked a phone that I couldn't fix (yet) with Hard SPL on it.
Its fairly difficult, I find bricking the hermes when using the sd card method, as long as you make sure you have Hard SPL, Unlock your Hermes(if needed, did this as wasn't sure) and make sure your battery is charged.
Unlock before putting Hard SPL on though as it downgrades the SPL to 1.10 olipro.
Also use Hard SPL ver.7 (should say SPL 2.10 olipro after upgrade) as ver 9 is the developers SPL (says SPL 2.60) and throws up error messages (if done from the pc) after flash.
As for the rom, no-one can say what is best... What is suitable for me may not be for you. If you ask this questiopn on a thread you'll be inundated with "This rom is best..." remarks. Search and you will see.
Hope this shines some light on the subject (forgive me if this seems scattered, too much caffeine and not enough sleep), anyway,
Cheers....
Thanks for the info and it does help/shed light on it. I have read heaps of info about most everything here, maybe more than I should have even to sart off with lol. I would normally not have been so concerned except that I have a friend close by who tried this exact way of flashing and still somehow bricked phone. Though he did say with folks help here he did get the unit working again but the radio never worked again I think he said.
I already downloaded a copy of Hard-SPL-V7 and Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
Not certain if this is the right one for me or not but seems alot of people like it and find it stable. I also grabbed this HER_DopodAsia_AUS_1.30.707.4_1.20.31.10_WWE_Ship though I'm not certain if it's any good or not. I haven't grabbed the unlocking file, not sure I need it or not. With flashing the Hard-SPL-V7 by sd card am I right in what I have read that all I need to do is rename the nbh. file and not the RUUWrapper_exe.
I am finding it difficult to get the Dopod to use 3G for web browsing/email though. But someone told me that the original set-up/ROM wasn't much good for the Optus/Virgin 3G network.
Yes you do only have to copy and rename the .nbh file. Don't forget to run the sspl.exe file from the phone however if you upgrade Hard SPL from the sd card. I ran the unlock tool as a precaution. I DID use the pc for this. I also used the pc to install Hard SPL. Hard SPL takes about 2 secs to install so no real trouble there but the unlocker will change your radio rom. I'd probably install the official Telstra rom to get your tradio back to 154.30.10 after unlocking (it changes to 150.00.00). Also, if you need to search for CircAU's roms as they are made for us Aussies and have a little tool that allows automatic setup of MMS/SMS. You just pick which carrier you have and press start.
You might be able to find a cab file for it on the forum. Do a search for"CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab". This can then be loaded into ANY rom and used to fix your setup for MMS/SMS. Make sure you also run the ARCSoft MMSComposer cab file first...

You got me really confused now lol, I thought I only needed to run the Hard SPL and then whatever ROM I liked (was looking at ones without radio ROM's). Also do you think it would be wsie to flash it with a radio stack for Telstra when I'm using Virgin as it seems Virgin is using the Optus network.
Sorry if I sound daft just the more I read the more confused I'm getting. Also it seems that everyone does have a different opinion on how and what is best. Just want to work out what is best for me before I have a go at bricking my phone lol. I've not found setting up SMS/MMS hard at all. Seeed pretty easy, having most my trouble setting it up for Virgin's 3G access for web browsing. Just can't seem to get it to work, got it set-up for wifi at home no drama but don't really need web access from the phone when I'm at home and have several computers.
Sorry, Information overload...
1. CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab - this cab file does a quick loading of sms/mms setting on the phone. You can use ANY rom and then setup your messaging with this. First however, install 2.
2. ARCSoft MMSComposer cab - This allows the use of mms on your phone properly. Some roms don't seem to set up your mms properly. If you have this installed then run 1. it will fix it all up.
I believe it should fix up ALL settings (including the 3g ones) as when you flash a rom, no native settings are kept and I've never had trouble using 3g after installing 1. and 2. then running 1. (will be in programs). It will soft reset your phone after setting it up.
Confused...
Really, just find the rom you want, check in settings as some have an auto network wizard to set this up. I just like CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab as it was made by an Aussie to use here. Its good when you don't have the network setup wizard (lite roms generally don't come with the frills)
Hope this clears it up....(preferably like glass and not like mud)
Cheers...
I am intrested in buying a Hermes, most likely the unbranded HTC tytn that I believe comes all unlocked.
For that one the procedure is the same still, right?
Hard spl install and choose rome you like
I have seen eithe Schaps 6 or the newer 6.1 with diamond stuff in it
So would I have the same procedure. To find the hard spl (not sure which version to install) and then find the rom w/out a radio?
es_bih, yes. Its the same procedure. Instyall Hard SPL ver 7(ver 9 is the developer one. It tends to throw up an error after upgrading via pc, no problem though).
As for the rom, make sure its a hermes rom. Any you find on this forum are for the Hermes BUT if you go to the other forums (herald, kaiser, etc....) the roms will brick your device as it isn't compatible with your device. Cooked roms are good but until you get to know the vagaries of wm6.1 I'd suggest to stick with wm6. Its more stable than wm6.1. Play with that and then when you are confident enough to try, then go for wm6.1.
Most if not all cooked roms come without a radio rom.
Cheers...
Tried doing the Hard-SPL-V7 on Vista x64 computer and get error 260 problems.
Tried on a XP laptop and got a different option. The first screen that comes up after running the RUUWrapper.exe not only give me the choice of "Force SSPL" but also allows me to tick "Is this Hard SPL ? "
In the guides I've been reading it says you should only get the "Force SSPL". So my question is seeing as I have the option of ticking "Is this Hard SPL?" should I ?
Installing Hard SPL? Tick SSPL. After that you can pick either.
Hmmm, can't seem to get it to do it. Sounds so simple I must be missing something somewhere. No matter what I try I stillget the ERROR 260 (update error)

Assistance Needed

Well over a year ago I bought the MDA-Vario and back then promptly flashed the rom to remove T-Mobile default. I installed MR.Clean Rom, after a few months of medium usage I completely forgot about the device and never used it.
Found it again the other day and came back here so I could upgrade/flash it so I can use the device as SatNav on the latest rom/build.
I can confirm that my device is G4:

Now, I am having great difficulty searching these forums because after not being around here for so long I don't even know what I'm searching for.
I have been reading different posts/guides since last night pretty thoroughly and I haven't gotten any closer to figuring out what I need to do etc.
I would like a fast/simple/clean G4 WM6 Rom, so far I have been unable to find one on these forums aswell (Why? Read the 2 previous paragraphs.. I honestly do not know what I'm looking for regarding compatibility with my device etc)
I understand I probably have to revert my rom to the T-Mobile original and start from there.
Please can somebody link me to the files I need, including roms/programs/guides.
Better still add me to MSN cr0sis at hot*mail d0t c0 d0t uk *(Not bothered about having this email listed publically, I never use it as email at all)*
Well, its not that hard to find what you are looking for,To upgrade read and follow either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL' posted as stickies on the top of this thread.
To get a rom of your choice, look in the 'Wizard Mobile6' forum, all the latest custom build wm6 or 6.1 roms are safe for flashing a G4 phone.
I managed to figure out Shelltool (despite a ton of broken download links etc)
and successfully flashed TNT 19213. I was getting too many errors (on first boot "Timesomething not working" blah blah, then a lot of programs it claimed to have installed simply did not work (No icons in program viewer or anything).
Anyway, not here to complain about a specific rom not working, so I'll just get on with trying another. Shelltool seems to be the only working flash tool out there, and since last night I have tried a lot of different methods to the exact guide instructions.
I need to go through a list of the roms I can find which ARE successfully linked to still (Again, so many broken links on here it's unreal!). I'll report back when I've cracked it and got a rom I can actually use.

Ok, I ****ed up during a flash. Won't go into detail of how/what I did but basically, I need the original MDA-Vario Rom for T-Mobile or I can't continue, Anyone know a working link please??
SoftSPL works. You do need a ROM that boots tho - if whatever you try to load DOESN'T boot you're screwed and left on the tricolor screen, and need an ORIGINAL load for that device (with the proper CID) to recover.
DO NOT screw around with loading things on a G4 unit without a proper CARRIER ORIGINAL firmware file you can use to recover with if something goes wrong.
Guess why I know this.....
Hehe Hmm, I wonder.
Well, yeah, I know this too now. But I wasn't screwing around I just had really bad luck because less than 20 seconds after starting shelltools I had a power surge followed by a brief power cut, effectively "Removing the USB cable during this operation" which of course we all know full well not to do
So I can use SoftSPL even when stuck in bootloader/RGB screen? I'll need a little help on how because I get "unable to copy files, try again?" dialogue. Gone into Activesync, told it not to accept USB connections, Killed activesyncs exe file in running processes in task manager and still no joy. Then again, do I really need to use SoftSPL if what I'm doing now is only putting on my carriers original rom (Yes, I found it.. Eventually! The rapishite links weren't working for me at the time, strange that suddenly they all started to late last night)
No, you need to get a copy of a valid firmware file for the unit and carrier you have, and flash that - then, once you've done that and its running again, use SoftSPL again.
SoftSPL will NOT work from the tricolor screen.
Ok this is going to sound really dumb but:
Stuck in bootloader completely
I have my devices original rom
Extracted the nk.bf file
Ran shelltools, it froze
Ran RUU, Errors (Possibly wrong .dll version, I'm not sure?)
I am following all the wrong guides because not one is telling me how to flash when stuck in bootloader, with what program or version.
My head is fried
If you have an ORIGINAL carrier ROM (which is an EXE, self-extracts and then runs the RUU that is in it) you can run that from the tri-color screen and it will flash successfully.
Don't try to extract anything or get cute with the carrier ROM - just run the loader (the EXE) and it should self-extract and execute.
You CANNOT flash a cooked rom from the tricolor screen on a G4 phone. It won't work - the loader will complain about being an invalid file or device and quit.
You need an ORIGINAL carrier ROM load for that phone - not a cooked one. Load it, go through the startup (screen cal, etc) and then use SoftSPL again.
Ok well I thought I had the correct original Rom for this device, but after 3 times trying to flash it to my device by just running the .exe I get
Error[294] Invalid Vender ID

Nevermind, seems I was linked to the G3 version in a G4 thread. Goddamnit.
I can't find the G4 version so I'm going to try and flash Wizard_Love rom.
In the days of SoftSpl and HardSPL, messing with RAPI tools like Shelltool is really risky. You should have taken more time with the wikis and guides.
Now you must use an official RUU (from your provider) or you won't be able to recover your phone (since it's G4 and it's CID locked)
Ok Brightrom installed, no panic anymore
Easier than I was first led to believe after spending a little more time figuring out the guides.

And today after a greatly anticipated arrival of my new miniSD card, my device completely destroyed it! I switched off the wizard, plugged the card in, switched on, noticed the card was really hot within a matter of seconds.. card wasn't readable in the Wizard/PC/Card reader/Digital Camera/Second phone...
I already stuck it in my Card reader after unpacking it just to be sure it was working...
Anyway, I'll buy two more lol. Could just be that I bought a ****ty card.
Anyone know where to get the latest TomTom + UK map?
