[Q] 3g radio problem - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed to axura 2.2.7.0 with no problems. I then proceeded to flash the ka6 modem. The install went off with out a hitch. After rebooting I have not been able to get a 3g connection, wifi works just fine. I then thought that maybe I had messed up the install so I odin'd back to stock but I am still having the same problem ( i used JFD tar and 512 pit with repartition). My questions are the following:
1) is there a way to check the status of the radio (ie did i fry it)
2) is it possible for this to be a network issue?
3) any non hardware modification solutions?
**Edit** I have also attempted flashing different modems to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated
**EDIT 2** MODS pleas close thread solution found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920196

there was a fix posted, but the real issue was not the rom, just t-mo data being out right?

I saw the fix moments ago, (original post was ~1AM) thank you. It seems that some how in the process of flashing and odin'ing i some how disconnected from the t-mo ap, as to whether this was an outage I have no idea. I'm just glad to have my phone working again. Thank you for your reply nonetheless.

[Q] Help with an unknown baseband problem

I had a JI6 Vibrant and needed to network unlock it, I did the nv_data.bin modification and put my own network unlock code.
I went back from JI6 to stock JFD and was running the phone on AT&T network. I Have been using Macnut since version 5 and have been using v12 since the day it came out. Yesterday I upgraded to V13 and all was great, I went in to market and downloaded all of my apps, set up my contacts ..... I then enabled the 850 band and rebooted the phone and that is when I lost network connectivity.
with Macnut V13 I have been unable to get on the network, I go into about phone and it is unable to determine the baseband. I try flashing one of the modem files with odin and it does not work.
Used clockwork to revert back to R12 (clean install and also tried restore backup) and no dice.
I then flashed stock JFD using odin and I had network connectivity again, so I tried Macnut V12 again but once I did that baseband not identified and no network connectivity.
I reflash JFD using odin and my phone worked again, so I tried the JK2 odin rom from Eugene but that did not work, no network connectivity and cannot identify baseband
I reflashed the new JK6 release and again same issue, no network connectivity.
I am currently running stock JFD, can anybody help please? after about a month on Froyo JFD is slow as ....
I searched and most of the unknown baseband threads do not have solutions, and the ones that suggested removing the sim card/sd card/ usb and rebooting multiple times has not worked for me.
I really hate being stuck at JFD
Thread moved to Q&A.
Anybody?? It seems a few people have the problem but nobody has a solution
I have a similar problem. I deleted my nv_data.bin stuff on accident and one thing led to another. Now I can't connect to any service at all and my baseband says unknown. I've been trying to flash it with all different kinds of roms and finally got my baseband to say something but I still can't connect to anything.
No luck Still got Unknown Of Everything
Hi if somebody can help i have a similar problem got UNK baseband, phone, Network, service, try the nv_data.bin fix, no luck, try odin back to stock, no luck, the phone works on wifi perfectly and every thing else works exep cell functions, on mobile says "no simcard found" any help would be greatly appreciated..
I went back from Cm7 to JFD stock rom and flash Simply Honey now my mobile can't recorgnize my Sim card. I checked and saw a problem "Baseband version : unknown". *#06# show NULL/NULL.
Anyone know how to fix it, please help me ??
Thanks
I had the same problem with Simply Honey -- simply didn't recognize the sim card. No other rom I installed ever did that.

[Q] Lost signal in new CM7 Kernel. Anyone else?

Unfortunately I can't post this question in the thread that the issue originated from but :
last night I was on com rom 2.0 with OTb1.6 kernel and ec01 radio. I did the ODIN flash to DL09 modem and then up to ED04. Had no issues at all. This morning I decided to take the plunge into gingerbread and used this thread here JT1134 CW7. I played around with this for a few hours and didn't seem to have any issues besides the known bugs. So then I decided to up to the newer rom by nemisis2all
Nothing seemed to have any issues in the orange CWM while applying the update
Now I have no signal.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Also is there a link anywhere for just the original kernel from JT1134 CM7 test build 06/09
EDIT: looking at the phone status is says baseband unknown. So I think I'm just going to wipe all and go back to the original 06/09 build byJT1134 unless anyone has just the kernell.
Thanks up front
Josh
You should try flashing a recent modem first to see if that resolves the problem. I am using EC01 just fine with the 6.09 build from the thread you linked. I have noticed on occasion mobile data will drop, but it seems toggling wifi fixes that (cannot say for sure). But I have not had any problems with voice signal.
It is still an alpha, so keep that in mind, but it has been working great for me.
with the ED04 modem, I did have the signal drop for a few moments earlier, but it seemed fine after reboot. and I have noticed that the mobile data does drop occasionally after being on Wifi for a period of time, but reboot seems to fix that too.
Ya i even just tried to flash all 3 times data, dalvik, cache and then install the CMW7 test 2 from JT again thinking it would jsut revert to the old kernel included in his and work again. But it is still no signal and no baseband version.

I probably should have read in a bit deeper, in order to flash to the ED04 modem I actually had to flash back to a touchwiz rom then flash over the DL09 and I used CWM 3.0.x to flash up to ED04. I had tried to do it in the orange CWM that came with CM7 test 2 and it failed multiple times. After I had gone back to DL09 and updated modem I just flashed CM7 back over and have not had much problem since other than data dropping.
I Just Odin the modem back to DL09 and then CWM Orange from DL09 to ED04 and working again. Thanks for the input guys.

[Q] No WiFi after flash.

Been looking for a solution for the past 12 hours and have not found any.
Bought a stock i777 with 2.3.4, flashed with SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 and a stock 2.3.5 AT&T ROM. After ANY kernel is flashed, I seem to lose WiFi capability. I have 5 wireless points near my house and it just gets stuck on "Scanning" and then the WiFi turns off. No points are even listed!
Currently running CW 5.0.2.3 kernel, 2.3.5 AT&T stock ROM, UCKJ1 baseband, kernel 2.6.35.7.
TL-DR - Flashed and lost wifi ability.
Which 2.3.5 ATT stock rom is this that you're referring to? Have a link to where you got it from?
I believe I got it from here: androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-s2-i777-gingerbread-235-firmware/
Did it work initially when you went to 2.3.5? You said you've tried some different kernels, at what point did you notice the wifi broke?
I even reflashed using kernel + non-rooted system package located in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
Still no WiFi showing. Just says "scanning" then the wifi shuts off.
Update: Flashed Entropy512's stock package + nonrooted with no luck. No wifi. Flashed zetamax kernel after. Still no wifi.
Showed at that time: version 2.3.4, 1777UCKH7 baseband, 2.6.35.7_ZedomaxStockKernel.
Flashed again with a I777UCKJ1 2.3.5 ODIN package that I know will fix the WiFi. It shows version 2.3.5, 1777UCKJ1 baseband, 2.6.35.7 kernel.
Seems like if I flash ANYTHING else besides this the wifi stops working on me.
Solved problems for myself.
Completely unrooted, reflashed ATTGalaxyS2Unroot_SGH-i777.tar. This brought me back to the original AT&T firmware that came with the phone. I then flashed SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar and subsequently used SuperOneClick 2.2 to root.
WiFi seems to be working fine now. I am now running a stock 2.3.4 ROM, UCKJ1, kernel 2.6.35.7...Clockworks version.
If anyone else is having the same issue this should help.
Thanks for the updates. Sounds like a frustrating battle. Glad all is well.

Hrrrrm Having the same issues and the only way I could manage wifi to get back on was going to 2.3.5 which had it's own set of issues. I tried following your steps but one thing I noticed you said you were running UCKJ1 but isn't that 2.3.5? When I flash the exact same files I am still stuck without working wifi
Still noobing it up here - hopefully I can either stumble upon a fix like you did or spot someone else's that matches my issues...
Avoid that androidadvices.com **** - Half the time they link to firmware that isn't even for the device it claims it is, carrying a high risk of a hardbrick.
I only experienced this when I was trying to upgrade kernels using the SHOstock ROM. I get no wifi with siyah and can't send MMS with Entropy's kernel. That's the only time I've had those issues. Maybe you had a bad download? Glad you got it fixed though.
Just to clarify, those kernels work great with most other ROMS I've tried them on.

Had the same problem
I had this problem (with wifi, not mms) after rooting from 2.3.6. I eventually flashed Zedomax's kernel using mobile odin and wifi functionality was restored.
I still haven't moved on from there, but probably will sometime this week.

Weird, I cannot think of anything that would cause MMS to fail - what sort of errors?
It's happened to me several times after I flash a kernel. when I attempt to send an mms it just hangs and says sending but it never goes out. Could it be a conflict as I have Chomp set as my primary messaging app? Although if that were the case it should be able to send from one or the other but it doesn't. Can't remember for sure but I believe that I may have flashed the kernel cleaning script beforehand in each instance. The only way I've been able to fix it is to reinstall everything starting with the ROM. I'm sure it's user error.
As info, steps I took to try to fix before I restored:
1) reflash kernel
2) flash radio again
3) tried all 5 radios released (not a radio problem I'm guessing)
4) wipe dalvik and reflash kernel
5) run kernel cleaning script and reflash kernel
No dice, it was bizarre. Is this even the sort of event that you could get an error log from? There was no FC or any error message, you know? If it happens again what can I provide you that would help...can I do a logcat or whatever? ;-)
By the way,I could receive mms, just not send.

Factory Data Reset restored wi-fi
I was on UCKK6 (2.3.6) and rooted by flashing Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock (2c)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627
and lost wi-fi (scanning then wi-fi shuts off).
Since I was reverting from UCKK6 back to UCKH7, I had to do a factory data reset
(Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset)
based on the info in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
I got wi-fi back once I did the Factory Data Reset.
I'm having the same problem
Giant noob here =(
Could someone post step by step instructions on how to unroot so that I can restore my wifi?
For example, if in fact doing the factory data reset as described in the post above me is the correct course of action... is there a way to do a backup before so that I do not lose all my apps and stuff?
Thanks

[Q] No Service After Flashing ICS Passion V4 ROM

So, xda won't let me post this in the actual ROM post, but I was wondering if anybody else was having this issue (or new a work around). After installing the ICS Passion V4 ROM, I've completely lost all service (says emergency calls only in the notification tray).
I tried manually setting a couple things in network settings but nothing worked. I eventually flashed back to Froyo with odin and all is well (so it's not a hardware issue).
Any suggestions?
after flashing passion look in setting - about phone and see what's listed under baseband. It should be T959UVKB5. If it says unknown you need to flash the KB5 modem that is in the OP.
Ahh, duh! Now that you say that I remember reading that exact thing and making a mental note to try that if I run into problems.
Thank you so much! I'll have to give that a try when I get home tonight, I'll update if it works.
Yup, that fixed it. Thank you!
Now i have that problem
i have no service either and i did flash the KB5 modem. not sure if im doing anything else wrong. my baseband says unknown and and its been the same when i had cm7 running.
any help??

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 stuck on 'turning WI-FI on'

Hi Team,
I have a GT-19100T which had the carriers firmware (Vodafail AU) 4.1.3 (rooted) running with no problems until recently (2 wks ago), prior to the fault I have had this phone for years no glitches great phone for its age.
I had let the battery drain, upon re-energizing the phone and attempting to turn on the wireless i noticed it just reported "Turning WI-FI on" and the toggle switch was greyed out. this would last all day. switching the phone off and on would not stop the process of the phone attempting to turn wi-fi on.
I immediately went searching forums and people suggested hardware fault or perform factory wipe through CWM.
Troubleshooting I have performed so far is:
- factory wipe and cache cleanup (not resolved)
- flashed to CM 10.1.3 (not resolved) (multiple times)
++++
OS: 4.2.2
Baseband: 1900TDULP4
kernal version: 3.0.64-cm-g9c2e2bc
++++
I have found from research that the Bluetooth and wi-fi are the same module (I maybe wrong) and Bluetooth is working fine.
So this leads me to suspect a software/firmware fault.
I'm currently downloading I9100TDVLSM_I9100TVAULSF_VAU.zip from (sam mobile) the latest release for this phone from the carrier to see if firmware will resolve the problem.
In the mean time any suggestion, advice, help or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe if someone knows of a file i can flash specifically for wi-fi module that I could try.
Thanks in advance

I have same problem few weeks ago when my galaxy on Stock Rom 4.1.2.
Later, I try to reflash again through Odin, then install CWM and I flash CM 10.2 4.3 through CWM and it solved.
I think you should try to flash Newer Rom version, example CM10.2 or SlimKat.
Good luck

Thanks mate for your reply,
I installed cm 11, this did not resolve it.
need the file for the radio/modem, i'm hoping this will fix it but not sure exactly what I am looking for.

Just finished installing I9100TDVLSM_I9100TVAULSF_VAU (latest release from Sam Mobile) 4.1.2
Still wi-fi not working.
will try and install cm 10.2 on your recommendation huytrandinh
Okay latest nightly of CM is installed cm-10.2-20131216-NIGHTLY-i9100.
Still has not resolved the wi-fi issue.
anyone have a potential solution?
there is this post for S4, but obviously only viable for S4

Try to flash a modem using odin,

Modem won't solve the issue as WiFi/BT drivers are in the kernel on the S2. OP was on the right track, but for whatever reason a clean install of stock didn't fix the problem.
Maybe try the 3 part firmware in Hopper8's Odin Troubleshooting thread, then a clean install of the Voda stock rom after that ?
There's 'WiFi fixes' (which are actually the LTE modem) for the I9505 as it actually has two separate modems, and the LTE modem also controls WiFi (which isn't the case with the S2 as per my comment above).

Thanks Mistahbungle,
I checked out that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345831
Nothing i could really use.
But I did try a few other kernels:
Siyah-s2-v5.0.1
Unfortunately as soon as flashing with other kernels the screen would go black after the initial boot logo.
Only way to resolve it not booting into the OS was to roll back to:
1. GT-I9100_JB_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.2.9 (flashed with odin)
2. flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.97 with CWMRecovery
3. install cm-10.2-20131216-NIGHTLY-i9100
4. then your general cleaup through cwmrecovery
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong when trying to apply another kernel.
anyone able to offer assistance please with right kernel?
cheers

Will try the 3 part rom XXLSJ for GT-I9100.
Fingers crossed
Yeah, that's what I suggested in my PP. Sorry, seems the 3 part was on HotFile & Hopper didn't have his own copy up somewhere.
The rationale was - there's possibly something from a previous installation causing your issues, and flashing the 3 part would wipe your phone. I realise you've done this manually, but at this stage you're fast running out of ideas before you declare it a possible hardware issue, and it was worth a shot.
So...What I'd try is - while you have a rooted phone, go into CWRecovery and format everything/ (not EFS though obviously, or your external card if you have one), then try re-flashing whatever stock firmware you have with Odin in download mode.
Edit - Also, maybe do a Google search for that 3 part firmware (details are still on Samfirmware, just that the files are gone), you never know, you might find it somewhere.

Okay just finished testing the rom by installing it via odin (3 part)
still has not yielded any favorable results .
Little disapointed as this was a great backup phone and served for the past 12 months as a mp3 player
Guess as they say; It is all planned obsolescent which is fracked ...
Thanks for the suggestion/help anyway.
I know this is an old thread but my gs2 had this problem and I was able to fix it. Using es file explorer made my way to /data/misc/wifi pulled up the properties to wpa_supplicant.conf and changed group to wifi...then wifi finished initializing...hope this helps somebody

I have this phone. the GT-i9100. Had this issue also. I took it apart. The little onboard battery had blown and corrosion got all over all it.
and guess where WiFi hard is. Right Next door. I cleaned it up real good. Put it back together and WiFi came back to life.
So give it some thought guys.
