I've been using it too, but I did notice that after a reboot or on occasion that it won't swype unless you switch to another keyboard first, type something, and then switch back.

Same thing here. But, it's working 98% of the time. I have been using it as my main soft keyboard and it's been solid enough to keep going.

All you need to do is uncheck swype, press home, go back to keyboard settings and enable swype. Then it works. No need to type with another keyboard.

Slightly quicker: In text box just change input method to any other keyboard then change right back to Swype. Don't have to leave the text box.

Very nice. Thanks.
The full version of Swype works perfect and better than the beta. It can be found for free if you know where to look

Hi I just downloaded swype beta and its turned on but the keyboard doesn't change. The same thing happened when I tried swift keyboard. I check it but its the stock keyboard. I am on bamf beta 6. Anyone have any ideas.

Hold on the text input box and choose input method and choose swype.
I'm sorry, but I don't see that button on my keyboard.

Long press the text input area. You'll see a dialog pop up with keyboard choices.

Thanks I finally got it figured out. I had to go to the swype installer app and change a setting there.

Now be aware, unless with Swype Beta 3.0 they fixed it, that when you reboot your phone, Swype will stop working.
What you'll have to do is long press inside a text box, and switch your input mode back to the stock keyboard. Long press again, and switch it back to Swype. You'll be good to go! I guess I haven't rebooted since 3.0 installed yesterday... maybe they fixed this bug?!
I just rebooted and swype was still there so that's a good thing

But did it work just fine? I've always had to switch to the stock keyboard, then back to swype after a reboot, otherwise the actual swype motions wouldn't create words.

Yes, the new Swype 3.0 works for our phone and does not have the problems that the old one had when it would reboot that you would have to select another input type then Swype again. That was a big headache to deal with every time you wanted to enter a new message.
Yeap like picao said it worked without a hitch.

I'm using Swype 1.6 and am not having any issues with it, use it with the default mail app, and it's there after rebooting. Is this only a 3.0 "feature"?
Awesome. i'm going to reboot right now just to check!
so im on bamf 1.6.3 and the stock messaging app wont auto space between words for swype. it does on handcent but i dont like using it. has anyone found a fix for this? and i heard it was fixed on gingerbread is that true?
The beta skips spaces and I haven't had any issues with it yet. But the double space doesn't put a period.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I'm glad they fixed this with the new 3.0 beta, what a pain in the ass that was after every reboot.
I run ARHD on Desire HD. In all previous Swype versions up to now, swyping almost never worked until I manually re-initialised its listener.
The current version hasn't displayed this problem at all, which had finally made the program quite usable. The word chooser is still proving to be a bit of a problem due to silly default choices, I'm having to correct it far too often. And editing words that aren't in the dictionary is exceptionally tricky due to the way the cursor keeps jumping around in edit mode, though that may be just as much the fault of Android Gingerbread or HTC Sense, for all I know.

I had the same issue when i initially got my TB (before rooting/ROM). I found in these forums a link to the EVO swype apk that you can use on the TB to fix the auto-space issue with SMS/MMS.
I'm back to using the 3.0 beta version of swype and I'm having the same auto-space issue you describe. I like the 3.0 updates too much to go back to the old EVO version, but maybe the EVO 3.0 apk would give the same fix as the old version.

Did you try it in a text message? I noticed that when I attempt to trace in a something like market, for instance, the trace doesn't work, but it did while I was texting.
It does have swype installed as well, but I can't stand swype personally. Luckily Amazon App store had Flex9 (shapewriter) for free so I use that. Pecking at keys is so tiresome and "swyping" is much much better, almost faster than physical keyboards.

Same for me here. For texts, the tracing works but for some other fields, it's hunt and peck only.
I was watching a review of the American version(can't rem which carrier?) and it stated we had choice of three different keyboards...and none was Swype. Man I hadn't planned on rooting immediately, but to get the Swype keyboard, that seems bogus if it doesn't come with it, does anyone know for sure?
If I am not mistaking, I do believe Swype is built into the Samsung keyboard under a different name.

Thankyou, I love Swype. I was just reading through the pages at AndroidCentral.com and they said it this way:
"Those of you used to seeing Swype pre-loaded on Samsung phones can now find this functionality baked into Samsung’s keyboard; to enable it, check the box marked “continuous input” in the keyboard menu."
Is this what you've found cypher? or does the keyboard actually say its the "Swype" keyboard?
I'll prolly know first hand here in just a little while, my GS3 is "Out for Delivery" right now!!

Actually, that's exactly it. It's the "Samsung keyboard" but it's got the 'Swype' functionality. And it's enabled by default.
I don't actually use it or Swype though so I can't comment as to differences or shortcoming, etc.

+1 to FlexT9 keyboard, although I believe the new Swype beta is basically the old FlexT9 and Swype combined as Nuance (creator of FlexT9) bought Swype a while back. The new Swype beta is the first keyboard I've liked over it. I just hope once the beta expires there is a way to purchase it for devices it doesn't come preinstalled on.
I don't like the new T9 (what they're calling Swype) that's built in to the GS3. I was used to Swype on my old Epic, but this version is nowhere near as good. It does have the option to select from a list of possible words, but I have the worst time getting it to accept basic words through "gliding" (not swyping). and end up just typing them when they don't show in the list of suggestions. Granted this is while using my right thumb in one-handed operation, but that's how I used to use Swype with no problems.
If you do type words it doesn't know, it will add them to the dictionary, but I have no idea how to remove them if it's a typo.
It does NOT have Swype.
Samsung keyboard has a swyping feature, but it's very primitive.

Has anyone tried to install the newly leaked "swype" standard keyboard on twisted's build? Does it work? Could it be included into the builds down the road?
I tried it. The one that is in the jb keyboard is better though. I still prefer typing. The swipe keyboard doesn't put spaces in so you're still stuck doing that.

Atleast it works so basically just download it, reboot into recovery, install it from the zip file, clean the cache, davlik cache and reboot the system? Hopefully twisted could build it in his build.

I've been using the swype beta 1.3.1 keyboard and it works pretty well. I'm thinking I'll wait to flash the 4,2 keyboard until the next build comes out so it'll be over a clean install. Does it look like the 'real time' predictive text helps? Any overall thoughts between the 2?

The way I have done it is if you type a word that the dictionary does not recognize and it shows the red line under it if you tap on the word a dialog will come up asking you to save to dictionary and then you can swype it once you add it to the dictionary. Also if you go to System Settings > Language & Input > Personal Dictionaries > English. You can add words into your personal dictonary by hitting the + at the botton of the screen.
I have been using Touch Pal for about a day and so far I don't have any complaints about it.
Although I'm not sure if the version I've installed is a trial version. Download From Google Store.

I've been using it for a few days now and like it. No stability issues so far. My only complaint is that it doesn't have volume key navigation (cm) and it lacks the extra gesture actions that swype offers. To be honest it doesn't seem functionally different than swype in terms of accuracy of the predictive text, and it does automatically include spaces.
First swiftkey and now Google, I hope for their sake swype has some patents hidden away.
I literally hate the new keyboard that got installed with the new update. I also prefer good old fashioned typing to using Swype.
Anybody got a way to go back to the ICS keyboard?

Good call, I didn't even think of that. I'll kick around and see if I can find something a bit closer to what the stock keyboard was. After 6 months, I just can't go to the new one. My fingers aren't smart enough.
In the meantime, here's to hoping someone can point me at the actual stock keyboard from ICS!
EDIT:
I actually like this one better than the original ICS keyboard that was shipped w/ this phone: Link

I'll check it out.
In the end, I just really liked the stock ICS keyboard that came on the LTE.
I can live with the new keyboard but I just need to know how to hide it. The ICS keyboard had a hide button in the bottom left corner, the new one doesn't have one at all that I can find. Sometimes pressing the back arrow next to the home button on the bottom of the phone will make the keyboard go away after typing so I can see and press a send button but sometimes that will take me back to the previous screen and I'll lose everything I just typed.
What's wrong with it? It works great for me. They even let you remove the arrows at the bottom so that they aren't in the way like in ics... And if you wanna close it, hit back. Its rather simple really... And the swipe feature works great.
