I literally hate the new keyboard that got installed with the new update. I also prefer good old fashioned typing to using Swype.
Anybody got a way to go back to the ICS keyboard?

There are plenty of free keyboards in the Play Store. Here is a random version of the ICS keyboard, for free:
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=inputmethod.latin.ported
Just make sure you enable it as an input device.

Good call, I didn't even think of that. I'll kick around and see if I can find something a bit closer to what the stock keyboard was. After 6 months, I just can't go to the new one. My fingers aren't smart enough.
In the meantime, here's to hoping someone can point me at the actual stock keyboard from ICS!
EDIT:
I actually like this one better than the original ICS keyboard that was shipped w/ this phone: Link
Just wish it had built in emoticons. I use them like a 12yr old girl when sending SMS.
Find the 4.2 keyboard apk. It's amazing.
Edit: let me see if I have it.

I'll check it out.
In the end, I just really liked the stock ICS keyboard that came on the LTE.
I can live with the new keyboard but I just need to know how to hide it. The ICS keyboard had a hide button in the bottom left corner, the new one doesn't have one at all that I can find. Sometimes pressing the back arrow next to the home button on the bottom of the phone will make the keyboard go away after typing so I can see and press a send button but sometimes that will take me back to the previous screen and I'll lose everything I just typed.
What's wrong with it? It works great for me. They even let you remove the arrows at the bottom so that they aren't in the way like in ics... And if you wanna close it, hit back. Its rather simple really... And the swipe feature works great.

i can dig what you mean, i miss that little hide away button that was on the old keyboard. wonder why they take the little things away? I also miss the numerical lock on the right side instead of the left, i was use to it the other way

Have you tried just pulling the HTC_IME.apk from an ICS ROM zip in the system/app folder and swapping it out with your current HTC_IME.apk? Set permissions, of course, and reboot.

Same thing here. But, it's working 98% of the time. I have been using it as my main soft keyboard and it's been solid enough to keep going.

All you need to do is uncheck swype, press home, go back to keyboard settings and enable swype. Then it works. No need to type with another keyboard.

Slightly quicker: In text box just change input method to any other keyboard then change right back to Swype. Don't have to leave the text box.

Arrows are disgusting lol the gingerbread text selector is wayyyyyyyy better. Also does anyone else get "lol" in all caps when they type it? I do and i always have to press the lowercase version which is getting annoying LOL.
Get the < > you just press the "12#" then "1/2". You would think since we have a longer screen we would have plenty of room for the arrow keys. If we ever get root we can try some of the other keyboards and possibly get it to work.

settings-language & keyboard-touch input-text input-calibration tool. You can also turn on the swype-like feature of the htc keyboard. It seems to work pretty good and you can still punch away as normal if you don't want to slide.

You don't have to hit the space bar with Swype. Just swype the next word.
And I'm actually surprised at how many people missed the arrows. I used to see everyone complaining about them and using the HTC-IME Mod. Personally, I use Smart Keyboard Pro with the HTC skin, and it's perfect for me. You can also enable arrows that are just like the ones on the HTC keyboard if you want.

If you're using swype, you shouldn't need to be hitting the spacebar. It does that automatically for you, unless you're tapping on letters - and swype 2 SUCKS at tapping.
Swype 3, different story - it's WAY better than swype 2.
But no root, no swype 3 beta
For everyone wondering how to calibrated it. Go to settings, keyboard, touch input, text input, and at the bottom It's called Calibration Tool

Ok, what did I do. I installed SwiftKey X, it was working, then I moved it to my SD card and it was no longer working ,my Evo 3d kept defaulting to the Swipe Keyboard. So I moved Swiftkey back to the internal memory and still the same thing. I can't figure out how to get the normal or the swiftkey keyboard back.
I would uninstall then re install the app.
Nevermind figured it out. Looks like when you move SwiftKey to the memory card it disables it. So you have to re-enable it then you need to hold down the blank txt box and change the input option to Swift Key.
enjoy!!
Thank you for the heads up...my beta just ran out...

Same here. I had been using Smart keyboard Pro since I first got the Evo 4g last year so I was pretty used to it. Been using Swiftkey all day. Just gotta get used to the space bar being smaller, and where all the symbols are.
When i type something in some places, like the Facebook app, the screen bouces around as the suggestion bar goes away and comes back as you finish words. With the default android key hard that doesn't happen, just with Samsung keyboard. Its very annoying. Thankfully it doesn't happen in all places, for example it doesn't happen while i am typing this in a web browser form.
For this very reason I use the Gingerbread keyboard in the market. It used to be free but I think it cost some $ now but worth it to me to kept it from jumping all over when predicting words. I have also used swiftkey but always come back to the gingerbread keyboard. The IV did not have the android keyboard installed.
You do lose the ability to write to text on the GNote when using the Gingerbread keyboard.
